If you're willing to have a straight white male who is more than a little odd, has been described as having a very motherly personality, has two ears that are willing to listen, two shoulders for crying on if you need them, two arms for hugging, and gets the greatest joy in life in getting others to smile then you've got a friend in Hartford, Wisconsin.

And that goes for everyone else here.

(Oh, and if anyone is wondering why I said straight white male I have had some people online think I was a woman and others think I was a gay man and they were shocked to find out I was neither and thought I would be offended - I wasn't. And I'm rambling.)

Thank you for the offer, boss, but that's a bit of a commute.

Will keep it in mind if I'm in the neighborhood, though!

And sexuality or gender are open things to some folks, closed to others. I'm still figuring things out, but can point to a situation that came up on WoW...

WoW ramble:
...it's not uncommon for folks to play female characters because they look far more awesome than the male ones.

There are horrible people that do disturbing and disgusting things while playing said characters, and others who are just trying to play the game.

At one point, one of the guilds I was in refused to go to voice chat and I was cool with that, I get that people's voices don't work right sometimes.

What I didn't expect, though, was having to explain repeatedly that I was most definitely a Guy In Real Life.

Quote from guildies "You play like a girl. That's why we love you so much!"

My response was confused but after repeatedly pointing out that I was a guy in real life, they noted that anyone who worries more about armor that covers up their character and goes to dungeons looking for an outfit rather than any mechanical benefit was the kind of person they wanted to game with...

Hope everyone has a great morning, loathing the works but soon to be going just the same...

Be safe and smart out there!

Out of curiosity, does anyone else read Sister Claire?

It's one of my favorite webcomics.

I've been slowly replacing them with higher quality friends over time. Some are here hopefully.

And, you've a friend in Pittsburgh. So why am I reading this thread? I read this thread, and others for two reasons. 1) My friends also post here, and 2) I read this thread in an attempt to learn wisdom. Empathy and compassion I already have, for the most part. Except when I deal with the willfully malicious. That's all.

The Gavin Grimm case, potentially a landmark case in trans rights, gets its Supreme Court date, March 28.

Grimm's ACLU lawyer, Chase Strangio, tweeted out a video about Gavin and the case.

Small progress, yes... but it shows that this madness is finite. Keep counting the days until the inevitable rallying cry of the next campaign;

'Donald Trump. You're fired!'

I'm sorry, but I don't think for a second that he's going to leave peacefully. He's already moving to establish authoritarian control, and the only way he's leaving is by being kicked out. Probably violently, but I hope just legally.

Edit: It's possible this is just me being hopeless and paranoid. I did say I didn't much like what this is doing to me.

Well. he is MILO's boss.... and MILO is outspoken in his trans hatred.

Trump has never really cared about LGBT issues, but Putin hates the queer community, and Bannon HATES trans people. I honestly think this is laying the groundwork for an anti-LGBT event aimed at splitting the main queer community from the trans and/or bi community. Or more likely, Trump doesn't see any conflict of interests in leaving the Obama protections for LGBT federal employees AND pushing through FADA by executive order—trying to have his cake and eat it, too.
I didn't know that Bannon had it out specifically for us...that's incredibly scary D:

I guess that shows we can't really trust a government staffed and elected by people ignorant of what we face with the task of helping us, but we're humans, we're adaptable. We find a way to fix things, that's kinda our thing. That, and bonus feats! :)

Now it looks like Trump may be forcing women to dress the part (whatever that means). I really wish that it wasn't from "unknown sources." Someone needs to speak up and tell us who they are so we can verify the information. It's easy to believe, but it's hard to prove. I like hard facts.

On a side note, I have been debating if I want to come out to one of my friends. She isn't a good friend, just a friend. She always seemed to have an open mind. She really doesn't grasp that sex =/= gender. I tried to explain it to her by telling her (using the most basic terms) that sex (for humans) is generally male and female and has to do with physiology and that gender has nothing to do with physiology. Many things have "gender" that clearly have no sex such as words in the romantic languages. La pluma (the pen) is feminine and El carro (the car) is masculine. They clearly have no sex and aren't even living things. She gave me a dirty look.

This came about because she keeps posting things that make fun of transgender people. I don't think that she's being malicious. I think that she really doesn't get it. I just really want her (and others like her) to think about things a bit more. The world isn't black and white. I'm not even sure if it's shades of gray. There is a lot of color out there.

I'll grant that Trump is corrupt / self-delusional enough to attempt to hold on to power unconstitutionally... but he is neither stupid enough to think he could get away with it (and that's despite my low opinion of his intelligence) nor anywhere near brave enough to face the inherent dangers of trying.

Yes, he is obviously moving aggressively to weaken as many pillars of democracy (e.g. internal government oversight, freedom of the press, separation between church and state, illegality of payments to government officials, et cetera) as he can... but there is no way that he can do enough damage in four (or even eight) years that people will not rise up if he attempts any form of coup. He will be bound by the constitution.

Even if Bannon does try to do a coup the rest of the government is unlikely to go along. Even the more reactionary of our Military have been raised up on the idea of Freedom, so Bannon trying to kill elections will spark that war he wants, with him on one side and about 95% of the US on the other.

I am more concerened thr Trump gouvernment will 'establish' a system to rule out any progress simply by decreeing unwanted treaties/laws away.

Especially those of us who actually served, but no longer do so. I remember swearing an oath to defend a Constitutional Republic, not some would-be tyrant's personal playground. Just sayin'

Sometimes people where I live do surprise me, in a good way.
I live in a faily conservative, catholic rural area in Germany. Last year, when the German Alt-right (called the 'Alternative für Deutschland - alternative for Germany), a anti EU, anti Immigration, anti 'teaching pro gay and gender confusing things at school' had a party event in my hometown, they attracted 50 people to listen to them, while 1.500 people went on a peacful protest march against them.

This year, the AFD has a New Years Event in the next larger (very conservative) city, where I went to the university, and the merchat council of the city takes part in on of at least three protest events, the plaza next to the party event won't be illuminated that night, there will be EU flags and rainbow colors on the building fronts and in the streets. :-D

edited for lack of spelling

Good for those that protested. These AFD thugs sound just like another bunch Neo-N**I idiots.

Well, I know the type. There are hundreds of groups of similar idiots here in the States. Sometimes, I wish that there was an alternate universe where we could send all these idiots, where they could act out all of their apocalyptic fantasies and leave the rest of us out of it.

I haven't told you this, but when I was in the Army, I was posted at Bad Kissingen, in Bavaria.
