Hi and welcome to my first go at DMing a PbP. Hope it doesn't go to hell too fast.
Please create aliases and post them here for my review, and feel free to talk about game-related things here. Your characters are all currently staying in Jelkala, but some of them have been there longer than others and you may know each other by now (it is a fairly small village). Ask me any questions you might have, game will be going up in a few days most likely.

Drendek |

Hi Drendek's style will be two weapon.
Anything you can tell us about the village would make fleshing out the characters easier i think also if you want to make suggestions for changes i'm all ears as such :)
For everyone else unless Garabbott says otherwise Drendek is a huge half elven man with little of the grace and none of the looks of his elven heritage he's been living and serving in the local inn for the past year or so after having washed up near the village after a terrible storm.
He shaves his head bald but keeps a well trimed goatee beard and his left ear is pierced with 3 hoop earings one of iron, copper, and silver.

Talison |

Glad to be aboard!
The profile is mostly complete. I may make a few last minute changes now that I see the make up of the group. He will still be as personable, even with a bard, but I will make him a little better with the rapier.
Talison would not be native to this town, and would likely only have been here a short while. He has likely already met Vorian as taverns are likely their homes. If Drendek, works in the tavern, he will also have encountered Talison.
If this village is so small that it only has 1 Tavern, Talison would not set out to poach customers, and instead would approach the tavern owner for a share of the increased profits that his talents as story teller and barkeep might bring in. If rebufed, he knows how to create a good time of his own.

Vorian Ritter |

Vorian, here. Sorry that I'm late, I'm stupid picky when it comes to these avatars.
The physical copy of the character sheet is still in the works, but I have a general concept in mind. I'm thinking about using a variant of TM's Controller bard (combat maneuvers with whips, etc.), though given our party make-up, a martial build might be a better move. Whichever has more synergy with everybody else.
I have no problem sharing party face with Talison. The chances of them knowing each other is rather high.
(Like many inns, I suppose the one Vorian's mother owns could act as a tavern. I'm sure there's more than one though, you can never have enough room to drink)

garabbott |

Everything looks good, I am expecting this process to take a few days (and, honestly, hoping so as well because I'm in the process of moving for the 3rd time in the past month, haha). One thing I was surprised to see was a severe lack of Rogues among the applicants. I won't say that the campaign lends itself to Roguish characters, because I can and will adapt it to match the players, but just keep that in mind, haha.

Information about Jelkala:
The seaside town is full of rigorous life. Residents know that they live as bastions of freedom under the shadows of piracy and evil, and for this the small town has but one constable: he is called Mr. Framesworth. A large portion of the residents, however, are also members of the Jelkala Militia. The heart of the village hosts a wooden tower with an alarm bell. When this bell sounds, usually by the 24-hour lookout posted in the tower, the militiamen rush to their weapons and report for duty.
The economy of the town is largely based on fish and ship-repair by a few dedicated residents. Trading ships rarely stop at Jelkala unless it is an expected shipment for the town, or they are damaged and need to put in somewhere for repairs. The town is fairly self-sufficient, so their shipment orders are sparse. Fertile farmland stretches a few miles into the hills that lead inland, and then an expansive forest continues the terrain from there.
There are two taverns in the town, but their differences are extreme. One, the Hungry Lion is known across the town primarily for their exquisite food. The prices are a bit steep, but the quality and services are well worth the extra price. The tavern is owned by a jolly middle-aged human man named Florence Dino. The other tavern is named Kegs'n'Bottles, and is owned by a rambunctious dwarf (Glunmar Doldrik) known more for his drinking capabilities than his brewing capabilities. The prices are low, the service is bad, but you're guaranteed a good time if you're into an irresponsible nightlife.

Talison |

Well, Talison will definitely be taking early meals at the Hungry Lion (a noble's son, he likes his luxuries), but spending the evenings at the Kegs'n'Bottles in the service of his God. He will see if he can come on staff to do something about that bad service and perhaps create a mixed libation that will enhance Glunmar's poor brews.

Vorian Ritter |

Like the tavern concepts; light and darkness, from the looks of it. People that frequent either place might be familiar with Vorian because of his profession. Epics by day, drinking songs by night!
Well, just to let everybody know, I'll probably be playing trip-monkey style, though since the Scorpion whip is allowed, I'll be able to hand out some damage. I'll probably hold onto a rapier as a backup.

Vorian Ritter |

Profile is done and up. I'm probably going to add onto my backstory a tad, to explain how Vorian learned magic/became a bard and became proficient at sailing.
Probably gonna say he ran away from home and stowed away on a ship in his late teens, only to end up right back in Jelkala.

Kassara |

Kassara wrote:Kassara has been in town only a couple of weeks. Maybe she's been working at the smae tavern as Drendek as a waitress? This'd give us a little bit of shared background. - Thoughts?Sounds good to me although i'll leave it up to garabbott to decide which tavern :)
Agreed,... It'll be interesting whichever he decides ;)

Pai Twistletrinket |

Pai's profile is also up and ready to go!
Like Kassara, she will have only been in Jelkala for several weeks. Once she learns that ship-repair is one of the active industries in the town, she will offer her services as an accomplished seamstress in the repair of sails in particular (supplementing her mundane talents with the occasional mending spell).
Pai will also be creating clothing out of random bits of fabric and other materials she finds, and she'll look for a good spot to sell her wares. She doesn't currently need the coin, but she keeps busy both as a creative endeavor and as a way to interact with townsfolk and those passing through (her handiwork will certainly be eye-catching; whether a non-gnome would want to wear what she makes is perhaps another matter).
She'll explore both taverns, but probably find the Hungry Lion more to her tastes.

Drendek |

You use the BBCode tags [*dice*] 1d20+4[*/dice*] without the stars any dice you need you just type the 1d?and the modifier so
Drendek's Perception Roll 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13or
Drendek's Damage Roll 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
The BBCode button below the box you type your post in probably demonstrates it better than i do :)

Drendek |

I think it would be a good idea to flesh out how the characters know each other ,if at all. As said above Kassara and i work together and considering she is probably rather attractive Dren probaly would end in in the big brother role fending off advances from customers (he's fairly aware he is no looker so wouldn't have tried himeslf :)).
I'm gonna assume unless told otherwise we work at the Kegs'n'bottles due to the easier adventure hooks for garabbott there so we would know Vorian from his performing and Talison as a frequent customer. Kassara would probably have more reason to know Pai than Drendek does although it amuses me that she is the one who suggested and supplied the green silk sash he wears at his waist.
Of couse these are only suggestions i'm open to other (and probably better) ideas.

garabbott |

Yeah, I was leaning toward Kegs'n'Bottles, anyway.
Alright, Drendek and Kassara have developed a friendship based around their shared workplace: him as bouncer, her as the bar's only waitress they've had in months (for most of the regulars, it is something of a novelty, but they've quickly learned not to mess with her unless they'd like to mess with Drendek as well).
Kasarra and Pai might have met on the street, and quickly identified each other as patrons of the arcane arts, and though there are many differences between their styles, some truly-dedicated arcanist companions are rare in these parts. Pai works during most days, but at night she frequents Kegs'n'Bottles to sell her goods, among other places as well.
Vorian is on friendly terms with Kasarra and Dren, because he often sings his songs at night in their bar. His antics have grown popular across the town in the short time he's been staying here.
Talison, as well, has showed up more than a few times seeking to help Mr. Doldrik (as he likes to be called) on busy nights at the tavern. The Cayden Cailean patron has found that while there are two taverns in the town, they both serve ultimately different purposes: one being the day tavern, the other the night tavern, and he proves useful at both of them as best he can.
We can assume that a part of each of your job description involves a place to sleep at night. Talison and Vorian, you will be sleeping at the Hungry Lion (mostly because I don't want all the PC's sleeping in the same tavern right off the bat). Drendek and Kasarra stay at Kegs'n'Bottles, because they have the strongest ties there. Pai, you are put up by the shipworking company you work for. You could have easily patched together a hammock for yourself, and you could sleep in the warehouse alone for free.
If anybody would like to add some changes, feel free. These were just my first ideas, heh.
Have I missed anything?

Kassara |

Kassara would be likely to have met Pai (possibly having bought clothes from her.) with respect to magic I'm planning on avoiding the flashier spells and playing Kassara as being essentially unaware of her magical ability; so she wouldn't be able to answer many questions about it. That, of course, wouldn't preclude Pai from watching and trying to figure her out?
Kassara is generally going to be a bit overly trusting and innocent. Her magic (charms, disguise, healing mostly) and blind luck have somehow kept her out of real trouble.

Meowzebub |

Definitely still here.
Just my opinion here...As to pacing..I would always hope for DM's prerogative to move the story along. I have the opportunity for a high post rate, but I know all do not share that. Still, I figure everyone should be able to post up once a weekday or can retcon in a comment from the day before. So if you find yourself waiting on us, I say move forward. It will be easier keeping people engaged if the story moves, then waiting to make sure everyone get a comment in.

Hymenopterix |

Hi, Still here. Sorry for the slow rate of posts - new teaching job which is very time-demanding. I should be able to incease the rate from now.
