Finally downloading it!
This has been a torturous week - my APs went out on Tuesday very early on, and I've been constantly jumping every time I get an email. I finally got an email from Paizo about 10 minutes ago, but that was the Player's Folio.
But finally this is mine! MINE!

I really like the layout too.
However, one thing I dislike is the background texture. Most of the time it is light enough to read okay, but in the lower half of right-hand pages it gets too texture-y and the text is tricky to read and the background "pops out" too much.
Luckily, all of the left-hand page is readable, and the upper-half of the right-hand pages are also readable.

Sadly, I've been quite out of the loop, and only recently been made aware this was coming out. Most defiantly going to get it, but was also very much wanting to try to get the hard copy AND the pdf.. If I where to order a sub now, would that get me the pdf for it once it ships, or would that no longer work? the exact wording is rather foggy, and says one thing, then says another if you look too closely into it.. And I don't want to take a step without knowing for sure what all I can do.. I'd prefer to have both, but if I can only have one, then well, I'll only get one. I will NOT buy both, as that would be absolutely ridiculousness to do...

I think if you start a subscription and order this all before the 18th you'd get both, since the AP+Hardcover bonus applies to pre-orders.

I like the bar on the left-hand pages, which repeats the cover/chapter opening artwork. I also like the new "blocky" Magic Item headers. I like the more readable keys on the maps.
I don't care for the new stat block headers; they are not bad, but not really usefull to me.
The box in the upper right corner is ok for a tome like this, but it is too much for smaller books like an AP issue or the player's guide, in my opinion.
All over all, it looks gorgeous! Will browse through it over the weekend.

After a quick first skim: wow! As others have mentioned, I really like the stair markings.as far as the room tags, I'm on the fence. I like the liik of the previous style, but this style definitely pops out; the lines drawn to the smaller rooms certainly are nice. As far as the stat-block headers go, after looking through the book, they grew on me. My only critique is the hp in the header: I think it should be left out and the CR and xp be listed only. Hp listed there looks awkward especially considering there could be other combat info listed. If you're printing a full sta-block, it's being printed anyways. If it is a standard creature in a Bestiary, we're looking up the entry up as it is. Finally, if it s a standard creature with some changes, the differences are put into a summary block. In the end, I like the look but would rather just see CR & xp.
I've been reading the PDF lite on an iPad, once I get the book in, ill be able to comment more on the layout/colors/design/etc. for now, I think the small pictures of the original covers and the different color section headings (in the PDF lite version) will come in handy when flipping through the book to help quickly locate a particular section. I think this works for a compilation book; I don't think this will work in the normal AP volumes due to the smaller size.
Finally, holy crap the final fight looks like a doozy! I hope my players learn to play with their "A" game (granted, if they don't, they probably won't make it that far anyways).
Excellent job!

Forty-Two Dollars for a PDF? I'll pass.
Go buy the PDFs for the six original modules and then come back and tell us what you paid.
Furthermore: with this PDF, you get all six in one updated to PF rules, interactive maps, as well as a PDF of the player handouts.
That is his choice. To each his own.

42 dollars for a 400+ page PDF. So it comes out to be just under 10 cents a page. Which is less than half the cost of all their other PDF's(with the exception of the rulebook line which is insanely cheap by page count). Keep in mind it cost the same other than printing cost to do a PDF as it does a book.
Edited, wow got ninja'd a lot there.

Of course that is his choice, but he's looking at a single product for $42.00, but not taking into account the fact that if he wanted to get this AP by purchasing the original six PDFs (each product individually costs $13.99) he would pay $83.94.

Some people cannot be reasoned with. They are set in their opinions and trying to change their attitude just leads to frustration on your end. If he chooses to not see the benefit of paying $42 for the updated Rise of the RuneLords then it is his loss. Don't add to your frustration by trying to convince him it is a good deal.

I wasn't aware I was getting frustrated.

Yay for fruitlessly negative comments! Ah, internet...please change.
An opinion about art is not a fruitless negative comment. It's just an opinion. Paizo makes great products. And the artwork for their products is topnotch. I love them. I'm just not in love with this one. Yay for bashing people who voice opinions. Ah, internet... please change.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
I'm guessing that works for opinions as well! ;)
I rather loved the artwork in this book, so I'm guessing it really does work in this instance!

38 dollars for a 400+ page REAL BOOK.
This situation is why people get a tad bit weirded out at PDF pricing.
I'm not arguing either side of the pricing debate, I'm simply pointing out that 3rd-party pricing is quite possibly (probably?) a major factor in some folks' reaction to the price of the PDF here.

And for that, you're trusting to Amazon's reputation of quality, reliable, timely fulfillment of orders for Paizo products.
Yes, it's a hardback, but the cheap PDFs for all of the other hardback releases are because they've all basically been rules content or mechanical resources, which, to their credit, they released as open content, so it can end up in the PRD or other online resources (ie, d20pfsrd.com). This isn't a rules-heavy release. There's not a lot of open content in the book. It's adventures and story elements. All the other Paizo PDFs for adventures and story elements follow a similar pricing scheme.
Amazon is willing to (apparently) sell this at a VERY thin profit margin, but go look over the threads with all of the horror stories for people ordering the ARG from Amazon before you make your decision.

I just ordered the hardcover because it made mention that pre-orders will also receive the PDF.
Are they still in pre-order stage?
I believe that they are still in pre-order stage up until the official release date, which is the 18th (or next Wednesday).
| Brian E. Harris |
Yup - there's plenty of threads about people's complaints of Amazon - and in many of those threads, there's a lot of people that comment they have no problems with Amazon.
When you break it down, the biggest complaint with Amazon is not getting a particular book on the same date as subscribers here. That's not just Amazon's fault, but the book trade's fault. As always, the response to that particular complaint is, if you want it on date of release, buy it direct from Paizo, or your FLGS. If you want it at a steep discount, buy it from Amazon.
Amazon aside, you can also buy it from Miniature Market (or, undoubtedly, other online retailers who discount) as has been pointed out in other threads.
Regardless of all that, as I said, I'm simply pointing out a potential/probable perception issue with the price of the hardcover vs. price of the PDF.
Arguments about production costs also fall flat when one examines the realities of sales through distribution.

New traits are in the player's guide. Which is free and in the RotRL section of the website. RotRL Anniversary PG link for ya

Skimmed it, liked it so far. Especially digging the clean layout. But I have to ask...is there a reason that Sheriff Hemlock is suddenly a white dude?
Looks more like a Shoanti now to me, which is a better fit than the original artwork.

Yeah, not sure "White Dude" is exactly accurate. His skin has more of a red tint to it. Definitely not the brown I'm used to associating with Shoanti.

Yeah, this is definitely the time and place for a sly dig which totally misrepresents other Paizonians.
Classy, really classy.
