Variety: "Rutger Hauer, ‘Blade Runner’ Co-Star, Dies at 75"

While I think his role in Blade Runner elevated the film to a classic, I will always remember him most fondly for his role in Lady Hawke.

Requiescat in pace, Mr Hauer.

Normally when I get to the end of a thread, I click the hierarchical directory links/ribbon at the bottom or top of the thread to hop back to the main (sub)forum.

For ex:

Community / Forums / Gamer Life / Off-Topic Discussions / CURRENT THREAD I'M READING

Starting today, if I click the Off-Topic Discussions link on the current thread page to hop back to the main OTF, it frequently kicks me all the way back to Home (Paizo.com). It's been doing it in Gamer Life & OTF, and it's done it a couple times so far in Website Feedback.

Is this a known thing or something unexpectedly new?

Edit: It's now doing it from the main forum too when I try to click on the subforum links.

It's been blindingly obvious to us pugwampis that too many of you posters are either too shy (maybe) or too dumb (more likely) to ask for advice, tips, and good ideas when you should. Well, we gremlins are here to help with all of Life's questions.

To start, here's a sample of our most frequently asked questions:

Q) Is it recommended for my young child/hatchling/spawn/involuntarily assimilated unit/Tamagotchi to play with scissors, swords, matches, napalm, MIRVs, Necronomicons, and air-dropped anvils/pianos?

A) Yes. In fact, you should join them. Nothing teaches like experience, and near-death experiences are the best experiences. As the Pratchett goblins are fond of saying: "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."

Q) Is it recommended for my young child/hatchling/spawn/involuntarily assimilated unit/Tamagochi to play with Kinder Surprise eggs?

A) No. The small toys inside might constitute a choking hazard.

Q) Is that weird thing in the dungeon a trap?

A) No. Nooooooo. Of course not. Don't be ridiculous. Go poke it with a stick, preferably a very short one. You could get lucky and win a character-building experience. You want to win, right? Winning is fun. Go on, do it. And don't use a summoned critter or unseen servant to do the job. They might win the prize. You wouldn't want them to win your prize, would you?

See, quality sagacious advice. So ask away, and marinate your sun-dried raisin brains in the sweet juices of a gremlin's wisdom!

(Yes, I know about the ban, and I fully expect to reap the consequences. So be it.)

After yesterday's forced resignation of recused Attorney General Jeff Sessions, President Trump has replaced him with Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker*. AG Sessions had previously agreed he would recuse himself from oversight over the Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference & related crimes during the 2016 U.S. Elections, handing off responsibilities to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Before becoming AAG, Whitaker has been openly critical about the Special Counsel investigation, even offering a strategy to shut down the investigation by denying its funding. Now, as Acting Attorney General, Whitaker takes control over the U.S. Justice Department, including DAG Rosenstein's roles overseeing the Special Counsel investigation and the ongoing criminal investigation by the Southern Distict of New York's into.

Late yesterday night, MoveOn.org Civic Action sent out the call to action notifications: Thursday, November 8th, 2018, there will be nationwide protests calling for Action Attorney General Whitaker to commit to protecting the Special Counsel investigation and to call for Congress to pass the Mueller protection legislation. You can read more about the plan and search for a local protest near you in which to participate. If you cannot make a protest, please contact your Representatives and Senators via phone, fax (House Representatives & Senators), or ResistBot:

I believe it is of the utmost importance to the rule of law to be protected.

First, Matt Whittaker must recuse himself from involvement in the Special Counsel's investigation because of his close relationship with material witness in the investigation, Sam Clovis. Moreover, his publicly critical statements regarding the investigation call into dire question his objectivity in this matter.

Failure for Whittaker to recuse himself--as is required by Section 45.2 of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulation requires-- demonstrates an unquestionable intent to obstruct justice by means of the appointment.

Second, I also demand Congress to legislatively protect Special Counsel Mueller's investigation from Executive interference.

Finally, I fully expect that the new Democratic Majority to investigate the circumstances of Jefferson Session's "resignation" and the decision to immediately appoint Matt Whitaker to oversee the investigation.

I believe that no one in the United States should be above the rule of law--not you, not I, and not Donald Trump. The Special Counsel investigation must continue unimpeded to fully understand the conspiracy to enlist the aid of a hostile foreign power to interfere in the electoral process.

Sincerely,
[your name]

I apologize to the employees of Paizo for breaking the No Politics rule. I also apologize to you all, Paizo's fans and gamers, for my willful disruption and violation of the established community rules. I fully accept the punishment for my actions. Please stay safe, and thank you for your time.

* There's been a large burst of editing on Whitaker's Wikipedia page recently, so I'm not sure how much of the information there is still correct or what has been excised.

So for the past several months, I've found myself taking over the food management (shopping & cooking) duties for my parents, and it looks like this'll be the permanent new normal. I find that I usually only have one day a week, rarely 2, to prepare and cook a full meal from scratch (like Monday's cottage pie, parm-rosemary version of these biscuits, and a basic lettuce-tomato-onion-carrot salad). And Mom & Dad won't eat most of my usual inexpensive single-slaad fare (ramen, beans & rice, hamburgers, microwave burritos, etc.*)

So, do you all have any suggestions for family dinner meals, especially ones that are simple and/or easy to cook & prep (like slow cooker meals)? Do you have any go-to meals that your families enjoy?

FWIW, tonight's dinner is slow-cooker chicken breasts in half-marinade/half-chicken broth, (canned) creamed corn, baked potato, and stuffing (from a box).

(* Yes, there is more to my diet than peppermint and coffee.)

Sources confirm Margot Robbie is producing and starring in the upcoming Birds of Prey set in the current DC Comics film universe. The movie will feature Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, Renee Montoya as The Question and Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. The (a?) currently unnamed villain they will be facing "is a Batman character never before seen on the big screen."

No additional casting has been announced. Birds of Prey is set to be directed by Cathy Yan from a script written by Christina Hodson.

Bumblebee teaser trailer

As a fan of the old G1 cartoon (for all its faults and shortcomings), I absolutely loathed the Michael Bay films. But this new film (which seems to be a franchise reboot), for which I had absolutely no hope, looks like it has a surprising amount of potential to actually be a good movie. And it's directed by Travis Knight, of the excellent Kubo and the Two Strings.

We've all seen the blog post announcing it, and likely read one of the many threads discussing it: goblins will be a core race/ancestry for players in the PF2E playtest and core rulebook.

If you are a fan of goblins or goblin-curious or even goblin-curious-with-some-reservations, what will a goblin PC look like to you? Are there some new character ideas you'd like to explore as a goblin PC or some favorite standbys and tropes you'd like to re-explore now but with a goblin character? How would such a character retain & express his or her innate goblin-ness without disrupting or undermining a typical adventuring party?

And I ask politely but emphatically: if you cannot accept a non-evil, non-disruptive goblin PC as a core character option, please take non-constructive and argumentative comments to one of the other threads above or elsewhere. Thank you.

Maybe your team ran across a tough cybered-up badguy who almost TPKed you all...

Maybe you found leftover implants in a abandoned medbay during a run...

Maybe you know you need a little edge, but can't afford the ultra-expensive brand new model augmentation...

Maybe you were celebrating a successful run with a few-too-many intoxicants, saw a bodyshop, and thought "What the hell? Why not?"...

Whatever the reason, despite any misgivings or hesitation you might have had, you got some previously-used (hey, technically it's new to you!) cyberware, bioware, or nanoware implanted. But after you got it, you've discovered it comes with an atypical hiccup, glitch, or drawback. Not bad bad enough to get it removed, but it makes your life a little more interesting or weird. So, what is it?

---8<---------------------

1) You got some great used headware/neuroware, or a hacking/communication system... and now you just can't say, type, or communicate certain words or phrases. You still understand the meaning of them, and can hear others say them, but for you, you just can't vocalize them or you stutter on them so badly it's incomprehensible.

My current mouse, a Logitech Anywhere MX, has a left-button microswitch that is failing. This is a known issue with at least several models of Logitech mice. I used to exclusively use Microsoft wireless mice, but their universal receiver is incompatible with this notebook... believe me, I've tried everything, and I used to do tech support & driver/software qc.

So, I'm going to need a new mouse soon. Wireless is preferred, but not a requirement. It must connect via USB, directly or via wireless dongle; no Bluetooth. It must have tracking technology for use on non-optimal surfaces at least as good as Bluetrack (Microsoft) or Darkfield (Logitech).

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Per the Starfinder corebook, we know that drow are seemingly thriving on Apostae. Their society is still evil, demon-worshipping, elf-haters, but now they apparently run their Houses like corporations and specialize in weapons/arms sales.

Any ideas or speculation of what else you might hope to see revealed about the Starfinder drow? Any specific things you hope break even further from ingrained TSR/WotC lore, or even diverges from pre-Gap Golarion lore/flavor?

We know Paizo has announced they are working with 3PPs for Starfinder. So far:

  • Encounter Table Publishing (Aethera Campaign Setting) has announced they are in early discussions with Paizo's Starfinder development team. I imagine more info will be forethcoming as it develops. (I know developers Robert Brookes and Isabelle Lee already freelance for Paizo.)
  • d20pfsrd.com Publishing has announced its Starjammer project (itself formerly known as Starfinder) will be tentatively released around Gen Con 2016. Because of the project's unique development history, it should be 100% compatible with Paizo's Starfinder.
  • LPJr has announced Starfinder support for its Polymecha line and future 2017 products.
  • Legendary Games hasn't made any announcements (that I could find), but with them already working on Legendary Planet products, and previously on Metal Gods products, it seems inevitable they'll also be on board. And most of their team has freelanced/developed for Paizo before.

What other existing 3PP products would you like to see newly updated to Starfinder? What all new 3PP products would you like to see for it?
