The Power of Dragons Is Yours

Few creatures inspire greater awe than dragons, and Pathfinder Player Companion: Legacy of Dragons dives into the ripples left in these mighty creatures' wake. Whether they help or harm, dragons make a lasting impression, from the legends and philosophies they inspire to the bloodlines they foster.

Inside this book you'll find:

  • New archetypes ranging from the dragonheir scion to the wyrmwitch, allowing players to access draconic appearances as well as lore, powers, and spells.
  • Ways for characters to enlist drakes and lesser dragons to serve as allies, improved familiars, and even flying mounts.
  • New draconic bloodlines for bloodragers and sorcerers, allowing eldritch abilities based on esoteric, imperial, outer, and primal dragons.

This Pathfinder Player Companion is intended for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, but can be easily incorporated into any fantasy world.

Packed with good options for your use

5/5

I enjoyed this book (I got the print edition). It offers good options for use for a player with a dragon bloodline. And I don't mean just the sorcerer bloodlines, although they are in there too. There are options and archetypes for your use. Well worth the price.

Fluff good, not much else is.

2/5

I wanted to like this book. I really, really, really did. The fluff is great, and the 'premise' of the archetypes and drakes are nice.

But.

Both the archetypes, and the drake companions themselves, have some of the worst balancing I have seen in pathfinder. An example of this is the druid, who replaces an animal companion with a drake companion. The drake is actually weaker then alot of normal animal companion choices, and to take the archetype actually removes six of his core abilities just for the drake part of the archetype, never mind the additional abilities changed for the other parts of the archetype.

I really hope at some point paizo revisits the idea of these drake archetypes and companions and does a tremendous re-balancing, as many of these archetypes feel almost unplayable with how bad they can gimp a character.

The new Dragon-themed options are BAD

1/5

I picked up this book excited to create my new "Dragon" themed character and all the options were very weak. Also, throughout the book there were sentences repeated over and over again. I waited months for this issue and I'm completely disappointed. It's the worst Player Companion I've ever read.

Some bad, some good. Sorta meh

2/5

This book has a few good ideas and some great flavor text.

It falls short on the mechanics side though, especially with the archetypes that involve drakes. The cavalier archetype that gets a drake is the worst, and is so bad, I think the writer(s) who made it have never played a cavalier before, it just guts the class.

There are some glaring typos in the book, like a certain fighter archetype replacing a bonus feat at a level that the fighter does not get a bonus feat on.

This book could have been, dare I say SHOULD have been, so much more.

Great Flavor, Great Options

5/5

While I usually like some sections of the player companion line, I very rarely like all of them. This is the rare exception. Excellent character options, monsters, and spells throughout.

I will be getting this one!

Yay! Dragons!!!

Wow, that is one of the most vague descriptions for a product I've ever read. Dragon stuff obviously, but darn. I guess I'll have to wait to find out what's in there when I pick it up.

It is very mysterious. I would love a book like this for fey.

Will this get into Xa Hoi and it's Dragon Kings?
That seems like the epitome of the topic as far as Golarion goes...?

Unshocking data point: People with dragon avatars are really into dragons.

Adam Daigle wrote:

Indeed. Just like people with Orcus in their avatars love demons and/or Orcus.

You are right Valantrix1.

The only things i can make out from the description to be in this book seem to be new dragon-themed bloodlines for sorcerers and battleragers.

A time dragon bloodline would be nice.
I'm thinking some ability that lets you increase your own initiative or decrease another one (maybe by a d6).

Marco,

Maybe they'll discuss like dragon magic for more than just bloodline casters.

Like maybe they'll do occult rituals that grant the target fear auras.

That, as well as Mengkare and his nation of Hermea. I'd definitely like to learn more about that whole situation, though I doubt I'll find it in this book :-P

Probably not Phylotus.

But we might find other things.

You probably won't have to wait that long. This was just announced, and as Liz mentioned, it's not the final description.

True, but the final description probably won't come for about 5 months. Right now, that seems like forever. The rampant speculation will be fun though.

Maybe we will find out more before that, like during Paizo Con or something.

You tease :P

So it mentions bloodlines of dragons up there. Could we expect a race of dragon people?

It could be a lot of things in this one. But I don't want to get my hopes up too much.

Also the fact that CorvusMask couldn't find a crow avatar just means we need more avatars. :P

Either that or he likes to plant eggs in people and watch them turn into zombie....and eventually watching his young pop out...um

I hope your thinking is closer to the truth.

With all the new dragon types maybe the draconic sorcerer bloodline will get some love.

Ye, lack of crows or ravens or even magpies and jackdaws is pity. Corvidae are the coolest birds!

And there are only two tengu avatars :/

Maybe there will be feats that give any character draconic abilities/traits.

I'm definitely hoping for some options for classes other than bloodragers and sorcerers, such as perhaps some dragon-themed bardic masterpieces, or dragon-centric (sub)Domains, or dragon-themed barbarian rage powers or alchemist discoveries or ninja talents, etc. A 'dragoon' gunslinger Archetype that used some sort of dragon-head-shaped flame-spitting blunderbuss would be too hilarious for words.

But yeah, some feats involving unlocking possible dragonic heritage (or just acquired abilities, not necessarily tied to interspecies boinkage) for classes other than sorcerers/bloodragers could be cool as well, allowing a fighter or wizard or ranger or monk to unleash some dragon-themed coolness/whoopass on occasion.

Interesting point about what avatars say about people^^

I do hope this book doesn´t mean some kind of dragonborn sneaking in...

We already had a book completely devoted to kobolds, and frankly that's plenty for me. I don't mind a little kobold content, but another 32 pages... no thank you.

Clearly the book will be 16 pages on kobolds, 16 pages on half dragon kobolds, 16 pages on wyvarans and final 16 pages for "What happens when chromatic and metallic dragon get too drunk one night" :P

Feats that grant anyone regardless of race or class low-light vision(or improved low-light vision if you already have), darkvision 60ft(+30ft if you already have), immune to sleep, immune to paralysis, energy resistance 10, draconic wings, etc. Also the requirements should only be based on level, not stats, BA, class, multiple feats, etc.

Rules for Imperial, Primal, Occult, and Outer dragons for half-dragon template, sorcerer bloodline, bloodrager bloodline, etc.

It would need to a hardcover to fit all the stuff that people(like myself) will be asking for.

Dragon-scale cover?

I so love dragons!!! I wish this was somehow connected to the Dragonrider Class from SSG or Rite Publishings In the Company of Dragons but I'll still purchase this for all its scaley goodness.
