I think Tombstone is tied up in the Spider-Man rights.

Which Marvel has back now.

While not exclusively (or originally) a Luke Cage villain, I've always been partial to Nightshade, one of Marvel's original female super-genius/inventors (mostly infamous for turning Captain America into a 'CapWolf' werewolf, once).

Man, looking at all the cool characters who have been in various incarnations of the Heroes for Hire, I kind of wish we could get to see some of them, such as Black Knight, Paladin, the Shroud or White Tiger (Ava, I'm not as familiar with her brother Hector).

Since when?

Disney/Marvel and Sony are cooperating for Civil War, but that doesn't mean Spider-Man's TV/Film rights are back in Marvel's hands.

Liberty's Edge

Sony cut a deal to let Marvel do as they will and Sony takes a cut. Hence Spiderman in Civil War and the his own movie.

Interesting. The impression I always got was a more limited deal. Was it changed, or was I just misinformed from the start?

Liberty's Edge

The later I guess. The first stories I saw mentioned a MCU Spider-Man movie in addition to the Civil War appearance. It's why stuff got pushed back to make room for Spidey.

Basically Sony decided a small part of a shot load of money was better than a large part of almost nothing. The catastrophic loss that was the FF movie after the poor showing of their last Spider-Man movie made them reexamine things.

Now, I suppose Sony might not allow Mavel to use everything in the Spider-Man liscensing, but I can't possibly imagine why.

Liberty's Edge

Set, I expect to see the female White Tiger (Angela del Toro) at some point. She was name dropped in Jessica Jones.

The last I read MCU received permission to use spidey until Sony's reboot came out... and that deal was only for Spider-Man. Don't expect Deadpool or anyone else... and don't expect an MCU Spider-Man movie.

I'm pretty sure that they have greenlighted and started casting that MCU Spider-Man movie already. It's Marvel/Sony joint project.

Anyhoo, really exctied for this series. Colter was good as Luke, and I'm always glad to see Misty Knight in anything.

* Facepalm.

Deadpool is with the X-Men at Fox. The deal was as I described as far as anyone can tell, and Marvel and Sony are releasing a MCU Spider-Man movie in 2017.

That is my understanding as well. However I am not sure what the specifics of the deal are. Aunt May at least is showing up in Civil War I think (since they cast her around the time they cast Tom Holland), and it wouldn't surprise me to hear the occasional reference to Osborn Industries or the Daily Bugle in future movies. But I doubt the MCU will get to use much of anything in the way villains or other spiderman associated characters. And future crossovers are probably contingent on how well the next spiderman movie is.

I mean even if they have carte blanche rights to incorporate spiderman characters, Marvel/Disney is going to want to minimize handing Sony money when they don't have to.

Quote:

Marvel has long wanted to put Spider-Man in its movies, but since Sony Pictures controlled the rights to the character since 1999, the web-slinger has been off limits. Making a crossover could have been costly, since Disney would have been expected to shell out millions. But the actual deal turns out to much cheaper — more like free.

Marvel Studios won’t pay Sony Pictures for the rights to put Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War,” the “Avengers” franchise or its other superhero films, as part of its new partnership with the studio, according to sources with knowledge of the deal. At the same time, Marvel won’t receive a cut of the box office for any of Sony’s films that feature Spider-Man. Sony won’t receive a percentage of the revenue Disney makes from Marvel’s films that have Spider-Man, either.

There may be some opportunities for Marvel to benefit financially from the Sony films, with payments tied to certain box office milestones. The financial relationship is likened by sources to the kind of compensation structure a producer would receive.

Spider-Man Deal Breakdown at Sony and Marvel

And

Quote:

Sources say no money changed hands between the two studios in the deal and it is instead seen as a quid pro quo transaction. Sony benefits from the free exposure of a younger, rebooted Spider-Man in a film from red-hot Marvel, while Marvel gets its hands on the most prized superhero in its lucrative universe. Also, since Marvel controls the merchandising rights to Spider-Man, the effect this move will have on sales could be worth more than any cut they would have seen.

"Sony would never have made this deal if they still retained the merchandising rights," said one producer in the comic book field. "Even a poorly performing movie could be saved by strong merchandise sales, and Spider-Man is one of the bigger brands out there."

Marvel and Sony deal as per Hollywood reporter

Just for clarification on what was said a little over a year ago regarding the deal.

If you've watched through to the very end of the finale of season 2 of Daredevil on Netflix, you'll see this: Marvel's Luke Cage teaser clip.

It's not Luke Cage, but in casting news for Iron Fist:

Danny Rand/Iron Fist will be played by Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell from Game of Thrones), and Colleen Wing will be played by Jessica Henwick (Nymeria Sand of Dorn from Game of Thrones, Resistance fighter pilot Jessika Pava from Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

Is misty knight going to be in it?

Freehold DM wrote:

Dunno. She's confirmed in Luke Cage, and it'd make sense for her to be in Iron Fist too, but nothing concrete has been announced (that I can find anyway). I really hope so; I want to see Wing and Knight teamed-up onscreen before Defenders.

I think that the only character who is a lock for all the Netflix MCU series is Claire. That said: it's safe to speculate that Jeri Hogarth will appear in Iron Fist. If we see another Defender in this series, it will probably be Luke (and if Danny shows up in his series, I'd call it a certainty). I'd put even money on Misty, and an outside shot at... well, those who have completed Daredevil Season 2 will know who might just show up as well.

I saw something that there's a rumor Civil War will somehow tie to or even include Luke Cage. I'd be more willing to believe that Luke Cage will take a more heroic role based on fallout from Civil War though.

Let's hope it's as good as Daredevil.

Looks like a false rumor. It seems that Alfre Woodward is in Civil War and Luke Cage, but as different characters.

Was that confirmed? Her CW character (the mother of an American who died in Sokovia) was unnamed. In the comics, that character's name was Miriam Sharpe, but if they are casting the same actress they might well combine the roles. Mariah Dillard (her LC character) is supposed to be a politician, and CW is going to be political, and there hasn't been any crossover with the Netflix branch of the MCU.

While, yes, I know it's comic books, the Luke Cage teaser does bring up an age old question regarding them.

Why on Earth does any nonpowered criminal do anything other than strictly petty stuff and surrender as soon as some hero shows up?

I mean, if I'm one of the guys in that building and Power Man cones through the door? Run away or get rig of all weapons and get on my stomach with my hands on my head. Anything else is just gonna hurt.

Ok, that's enough 'logic', back to comics!

for one thing this is a world where most of the heroes are new. Sure if Iron Man or Thor came in that building, they probably would just run, but a regular looking guy who's not even a rumor of a superhero? I'd think heavily armed career criminals would shoot him. Hopefully by midseason the bad guys know not to just shoot him.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, but when I see the fests of strength and bullets bouncing off... time to re-evaluate my life choices.

don't forget panic as well!

Cage was the most faithful to the character. Wrapping up an attacker in a metal that they can't bend is classic power stunt material, VERY Luke Cage.

Loved them all, though.

Because it boggles the mind. They did a good job of that in Alias. If someone gets stabbed and the knife..BOUNCES OFF THEIR SKIN(to say nothing of how it might seem to hit something that SHOULD be human flesh and yet is not), the human mind will stop for a few moments because that is something that is heretofore impossible.

I loved that bar fight in Jessica Jones. :)

But man, in the Netflix MCU, they really really hate doors. Replacing/repairing doors would be a stable, full-time, union job.

My first exposure and lasting impression of Barrowman is as Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who. Everything I've seen him do since then I can rationalize as part of some plan or misadventure of Harkness. Posing to be the leader of a sekrit group of exposition ninjas? Dressed as Squirrel Girl? Both are still more believable than some Torchwood episodes.

I do have a tendency to explain obvious things. That's why I some times use the same costume as Captain Obvious.
