So looking through GM Core, I noticed a few items that were new to that book. There are a lot of threads talking about the changes to the classes, the rules, and things that got renamed. Thought it would be good to highlight some of the new items that are part of the Remaster.

Here is one that I was very happy with.

———

Shining Symbol Item 3+
DIVINE INVESTED LIGHT
Usage worn; Bulk —

If you worship a deity, this golden amulet transforms into your deity's religious symbol when you invest it. You gain a +1 item bonus to Religion. The symbol casts dim light in a 20-foot emanation.

Activate—Spiritual Light [two-actions] (concentrate, light, revelation) Frequency once per day;
Effect The light cast by the symbol becomes bright light for 10 minutes and shines through bodies to reveal hints of the spirits within. Creatures in the light receive a –1 status penalty to Deception and Stealth checks. You can Dismiss this activation.

Type shining symbol; Level 3; Price 55 gp

Type greater shining symbol; Level 9; Price 650 gp The bonus to Religion is +2. Spiritual Light's penalty is –2, and while it's active your enemies in the light gain weakness 5 to spirit damage.

Type major shining symbol; Level 17; Price 13,500 gp The bonus to Religion is +3. Spiritual Light's penalty is –3, and while it's active your enemies in the light gain weakness 10 to spirit damage.

———

I’ll leave it to others to highlight new items they were happy to see added.

So the Air Repeater and Long Air Repeater use a “container of pressurized air instead of black powder to propel small metal pellets from an attached cartridge.”

We know how many pellets are in a magazine (depends on which air repeater) and we know how long it takes to reload a magazine (3 actions).

Out of combat can we combine pellets from multiple magazines into one, or do we get stuck with magazines with 1 or 2 pellets left in them. It isn’t clear to me from the description if the container of pressurized air is part of the magazine or not.

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. At the least it should include current/maximum Stamina, Hit Points, Resolve Points, EAC and KAC, and saving throws.

In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do so please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.

If you want examples, the PbP GM Kit has the pregenerated characters done in BB Code. Use those as a general guideline.

Botting

Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.

Please include botting instructions in your profile and a general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.

Please also indicate if you have a preference for who runs your character. If there are resources you don’t mind them using, please say so.

If your character has any abilities that interrupt play such as Swashbuckler Parry and Repost, Dual Cursed Oracle’s Misfortune Revelation, the Bard Spell Saving Finale or any other things that can interrupt the normal sequence to allow an action, modify a check or cause a re-roll, I ask that you have something in your Botting instructions about when you want this used.. The reason is that it can really slow down a PbP if you have to serialize actions.

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.

When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.

Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:

Quote:

Sir Cumference waits for the elven mechanic Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his bowcaster before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with High Tech Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

Chronicle information

In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I will be using RPGChronicles. I will provide a link in the campaign information.

You do not need an account in order to put your information in.

I use this to send chronicles and report the game.

If there are rules questions, please post them in the discussion thread rather than interrupting the gameplay thread with rules debates.

I am building a Thyr character now that they are legal for society play. I tried to figure out if they have a language of their own, as far as I can tell they don’t.

Based on what happened in scenario #1-29 Honorbound Emissaries we know at least some of them live on Saaruq 5. Still having trouble finding what languages are spoken there.

Does anyone have some good sources for background information on Thyr? I would rather not have mine come from the Scoured Stars, which is why I was looking at Saaruq 5 as a possible homeworld. I would consider other locations, but would like someplace with a little background. Seems many of them are in the Kreiholm Freehold which is why I was looking there.

I was looking at creating a Nyktera monk using Sprite’s Spark, but am very concerned that the damage would be so low as to make the character ineffective.

Powerful Fist doesn’t look like it would change the damage die since it says it increases it for Fist. Sprite’s Spark is an unarmed attack, but it is in the sling rather than brawling group and certainly not a fist. It would allow me to do lethal or non-lethal with no penalty since that section says Unarmed attack rather than a specific type of attack.

Next thing I looked at was Cleric hoping to be able to find a way to use Deadly Simplicity. Once again, Sprite’s Spark isn’t a fist. It is in the sling group, but even Pulura (favored weapon of Sling) doesn’t look like it would qualify.

Next was looking at Thaumaturge Dedication for the Glimpse Vulnerability. Unfortunately that damage bonus doesn’t scale with number of dice. It would give a small boost to start, but once again doesn’t scale at higher level.

The Ki Strike would help on the damage and I see nothing preventing it from working with Sprite’s Spark.

So, have I missed anything and am I correct that damage will be lacking?

Assume that the Summoner is unconscious because your character needs to sleep sometime. It appears that the Eidolon does not unmanifest just because you are unconscious.

Manifest Eidolon wrote:
Your eidolon must remain within 100 feet of you at all times and can't willingly go beyond that limit. If forced beyond this distance, or if you are reduced to 0 Hit Points, your eidolon's physical form dissolves: your eidolon unmanifests, and you need to use Manifest Eidolon to manifest it again.

There is a section of the rules covering lost or altered actions, but I’m finding that there is some disagreement.

Lost or Altered Actions, SoM pg 54 wrote:

If you or your eidolon becomes slowed, stunned, quickened, or otherwise affected by something that changes the actions you gain at the start of each turn, it affects your shared actions. However, if you are both subject to such an effect, apply only the more severe one. For instance, if you or your eidolon were slowed 1, you would start your turn with one fewer action, but if you were both slowed 1, you would still lose only one action, rather than adding the two slowed effects together. However, if you were slowed 1 and your eidolon slowed 2, you'd have two fewer actions, because that's the more severe effect. If only one of you becomes restricted in how you can spend your actions, that restriction doesn't automatically extend to the other; for example, if your eidolon became immobilized or petrified, it wouldn't be able to move, but you could still use your actions to move. The GM resolves any situation that's unclear.

You, as the player, control both your summoner and your eidolon, and the two are generally considered to cooperate unless you decide for them not to. While a summoner's link with an eidolon is a partnership, ultimately the eidolon is linked to you, not the other way around. If there's ever a conflict of who should act, you win out over your eidolon. This means that if the eidolon comes under an effect that would take its actions out of your control, such as the confused or controlled condition, you can use all of your shared actions so your eidolon doesn't have any actions remaining to cause trouble (as long as you are able to act). However, if you came under such an effect, you would simply use all of your shared actions, preventing your eidolon from acting.

It makes it clear how to resolve it when the Eidolon has no actions. It also makes it clear (in the last paragraph) how something like Controlled or Confused would work.

My reading of the section is that the Summoner has to give their actions to the Eidolon. If the Summoner has no actions (because they are asleep) then the Eidolon can’t act. Others disagree.

Figured it was time to take the question here and see if some consensus can be reached.

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

I will be running the first adventure, A Foul Breed, from the Gallows of Madness. After that is complete we can discuss if I run the other two connecting adventures.

I would like it if everyone can post at least once a day. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows.

Acceptable characters

This adventure is being run in Campaign mode with the credit applied to any Pathfinder Society character of third level or less. The chronicle is applied at the end of the adventure so the character you are applying credit to is not locked out of other games. That said, they still need to be 3rd level or less when the chronicle is applied.

The chronicle grants 3 XP and 4 Prestige in normal advancement. Please keep this in mind if you plan to get the other two parts of this module on the same character.

I will allow you to play either a copy of the character you will be applying credit to or a new first level character with 150 gp in equipment. As this is in campaign mode, any expenditures or effects are not carried forward to the character receiving credit. They are two separate entities.

As a special rule for this run, I am allowing a starting Orc character that (other than race) abides by the normal restrictions of a society character. Any Orcs must be from either the Mwangi Expanse or the Burning Sun tribe in Belkzen. I am NOT allowing Orc feats that are not already available to half-orcs.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. I’ve built two Nanocytes, both still relatively low level, and keep struggling with what to put into their gear array.

I’ve read through Kremlin K.O.A.’s Nanocyte Handbook, but thought they could have given more advice on the gear arrays.

My two Nanocytes are as follows:

Xeb, Pahtra former lab experiment and iconic comedian / ventriloquist.
Level 5
Major forms (3): Vocal Modulator, Pulse Staccato Rifle, Thruster Heels
Minor forms (5): Admiral Lizard (his ventriloquist’s dummy), Holoskin, Portable Light Beacon, 800’ Adamantine Alloy cable line, Toolkit (Akinzi Resources grifter’s kit)

Cydney, Verthani Cyberborn cybernetic researcher
Level 6
Major forms (4): High-Density Data Jack, Voice Amplifier, Thruster Heels, Static Arc Rifle
Minor forms (6): Adamantine Alloy Cable Line, Chemlyzer, Grenade Scrambler Mk 2, Portable Gangway, Spotlight Portable Light, Subdermal Extractor

——

I’ve tried to make sure these are items that aren’t needed when they would want their Sheath array. When they get to level 7 for the secondary array, I plan to have some low level items specifically to use when the nanite primary array is something other than the Gear array.

Both of my Nanocytes have taken the Surgical Host knack so they don’t need a MedKit. One of them took the Versatile Nanites in order to get a bonus on Medicine checks when in Sheath array. This combination seems pretty effective.

So, what do you have in your gear array?

I’ve looked at the chase scene a few times now and the entries don’t make sense to me.

They have a column for # which I thought was zone number, a zone name, and then the effects.

The thing is the first always lists 1-3 for the number. The second entry is 2, 3, 1 or 2 depending on route.

What is the # column supposed to be?

Looks like a fun scenario. I played it and will be running it soon.

So I notice that the BBEG is supposed to be a fallen priest of Pharasma.

Divine Lance is on his spell list. Ignoring all the other potential problems, Pharasma is True Neutral so Divine Lance is useless to all of her clergy. The type of damage is based on the alignment of the god.

Divine Lance wrote:
Choose an alignment your deity has (chaotic, evil, good, or lawful). You can't cast this spell if you don't have a deity or if your deity is true neutral.

Nothing in the Deathless Acolyte would change this.

Think I will ignore the cantrip for now, but I am curious what others think.

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

This is part of a special so it will be critical that we run a fast game.

I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows. Please also include a ‘bot me’ spoiler so that it is easier for others to bot you. (See more about this below.)

Below I give some examples for how I like things. I don’t mind variations on what I give, but please do try to include the same sort of information. I request it because it helps me keep the game flowing.

Chronicle information

In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I ask that each character please provide me the following information:

Player name:
Character name:
OPF #:
Character #:
Faction:
Pathfinder training:
Downtime activity with rolls (Usually Earn Income):

If you will be using an Advanced Boon or a Promotional Boon, please let me know which ones. You are limited to one of each.

If you have a boon you will be using that modifies your downtime activity, please note it with the downtime activity.

All other boons can be handled as they come up. If you have a boon that you expect to come into play, I would appreciate being told about it ahead of time.

At the appropriate time, I will ask that you post any items you may receive from Pathfinder Training. That will happen after the game starts.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. It should include your AC, Saving Throws, Perception, Exploration mode activity, conditions and expendable daily resources.

In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do please put it under a single spoiler. I prefer not to have to open multiple spoilers when trying to find something.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.

You can look in the PbP GM Kit for pregenerated characters done in BB Code and use those as examples.

Botting

Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.

Please include instructions in your profile and some general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. I highly recommend this include the dice expressions used for common actions. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.

If there are resources you don’t mind being used up by botting, please say so. If there are resources you never want someone using, it is alright to say that as well.

If it makes you more comfortable, you could specify who you want to run your character when you can’t post.

If your character has any reactions, I ask that you have something in your Botting instructions about when you want this used. It is alright if you make it a separate section under a different spoiler provided you make it clear what it is. If it requires a roll, please have the dice expression there as well. The reason is that it can really slow down a PbP if you need to serialize actions between multiple people.

In my experience, creating a bot structure can help with your own posts as well. Assuming you put complete dice expressions in the botting directions, it makes it easy to cut and paste.

Criticals

In PF2 the determination of when something is a critical is based on exceeding the target difficulty by ten. Any strike that exceeds the enemy Armor Class ( AC) by ten is a critical hit.

Normally you will not instantly know the enemy AC. If you have something special that happens on a critical (such as a weapon with the Deadly trait), I would prefer that you also provide the critical effect as well. Generally this would be done as additional damage.

Example wrote:

Mister Oakleaf shoots at the groo.
Composite Shortbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 Range 60’, Propulsive, Deadly
Cold Iron Piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 1
If crit, add Deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 1

Axel Miner swings at the groo.
Light Pick: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 Agile, Fatal d10
Piercing damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
If crit, replace with fatal: 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will use your exploration activity to determine which skill to use in Initiative.

Below I give some examples for how I like things. I don’t mind variations on what I give, but please do try to include the same sort of information. I request it because it helps me keep the game flowing.

Chronicle information

In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I ask that each character please provide me the following information:

Player name:
Character name:
OPF #:
Character #:
Faction:
Pathfinder training:
Downtime activity with rolls (Usually Earn Income):

At the appropriate time, I will ask that you also post any items you may receive from Pathfinder Training.

I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.

Any strike that exceeds the enemy AC by ten is a critical.

Normally you will not instantly know the target value. I do not tend to share the ACs of enemies in battle. If you have something special that happens on a critical (such as a weapon with the Deadly or Fatal trait), I would prefer that you also provide the critical effect as well. Generally this would be done as additional damage.

Example wrote:

Mister Oakleaf shoots at the groo.
Composite Shortbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 Range 60’, Propulsive, Deadly
Cold Iron Piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 4
If crit, add Deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 10

Axel Miner swings at the groo,
Light Pick: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Fatal d10
Piercing damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
If crit, replace with fatal: 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (6, 1) + 4 = 11

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.

When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.

Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:

Quote:

Sir Cumference waits for the elven archer Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his arrow before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I (and many other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones. Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I would like to see some of the paper SFS player boons come back as something that could be purchased with ACP. There were several that I felt were interesting and useful.

There is a list of many of the boons here. Although I don’t think all of them would make good choices, many of them would.

Boon Candidates
The one I think most needs to have this happen is Mystical Guidance Systems Upgrade (Starship Boon) since it helps certain builds be competent in Starship Combat.

Mystical Guidance Systems Upgrade:

"You have acquired the technical blueprints to modify one of the weapons onboard your ship to act as a hybrid device that can be interacted with by those trained in the arts of mysticism.

Benefit: When this boon is slotted, select one weapon onboard your starship. This weapon gains the mystical weapon special property if it does not already possess this property. When calculating her gunnery bonus, a gunner using a mystical weapon can use ranks in Mysticism in place of her base attack bonus or ranks in Piloting, and her Wisdom modifier in place of her Dexterity modifier. This boon can be used to improve weapons gained as a result of other"

Other ones I would like to see include Broad Arc Upgrade (Starship Boon), Emergency Resupply (Starship Boon; Limited Use), and Hauler-Bot 6000 (Ally Boon).

Broad Arc Upgrade:

"You have aquired the technical blueprints to modify one of the weapons onboard your ship to incorporate a broader arc.

Benefit: When this boon is slotted, select one weapon onboard your starship. This weapon gains the broad arc weapon special property (Starfinder Core Rulebook 304) if it did not already possess this property. This weapon takes a –3 penalty to fire in adjacent arcs rather than the standard –2 due to the nature of this modification. If the modified weapon already has the broad arc weapon special property, then reduce the penalty to firing in adjacent arcs by 1. This boon can be used to improve weapons gained as a result of other Starship boons."

Emergency Resupply:

"You have stockpiled extra reserves of ammunition onboard your starship. This can be used for a single emergency reload during a starship combat.

Benefit: When this boon is slotted, selected [sic] one starship weapon with the limited fire special property on the group's starship. Once during a starship combat, when the selected weapon runs out of ammunition, you can immediately reload the weapon back to its full capacity. When you choose to do this, cross this boon off the Chronicle sheet."

Hauler-Bot 6000:

"Adventurers across the Pact Worlds frequently employ small robots to assist them with mundane tasks. A ubiquitous design, the Hauler-Bot 6000 is a trashcan-sized machine that possesses an internal flight mechanism and little else. The robot’s primary function is to store equipment for those it serves, while some have been modified to include rudimentary personalities.

Benefit: The Hauler-Bot 6000 accompanies you on your mission. The robot takes no active part in the scenario beyond carrying extra materials, and it does not occupy a space in combat. It can hold up to 6 bulk worth of equipment or other items and can levitate up to fifteen feet off the ground. The Hauler-Bot 6000’s basic programming allows for easy sorting of gear to quickly shuffle what you’re looking for toward the front of the storage compartment, so retrieving an item takes only a move action. You can install a computer onto the Hauler-Bot 6000, which can be used to store important data, or even impart the robot with a personality subroutine that you determine."

Coming up with fair ACP costs

The player boons were generally given away via random chance. It was supposed to average out to a 10% chance of getting one of these boons for each session you played. Playing 10 regular scenarios at a supported convention would get you 60 ACP, which feels much too high.

If we compare them to the boons you can currently purchase from your faction for ACP I think they are a little more desirable than many of the tier 2 boons which cost 4 ACP.

I’m thinking that 10 ACP would likely be a reasonable average cost for many of the boons. I don’t think any of them should cost as much as 20 ACP. For comparison currently we can use ACP to purchase Starfinder Body Recovery (10 ACP), Starship Towing or Infamy Reduction (8 ACP) and the various admittance boons starting at 40 ACP for most Pact Worlds races.

I don’t think any of the player boons would be as valuable as the admittance boons.

Feedback wanted
Which of the paper player boons would you like to see return via ACP and how would you price them?

Pathfinder Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

If someone is flanking an opponent, that opponent becomes flat-footed to them. It requires positioning and that both of the people flanking be able to make a melee attack.

If one of the people flanking does a ranged attack instead, is the opponent still flat-footed to them? Lots of ways to do this, the simplest would be two weapon fighting with a dagger as one of the two weapons. The actual situation where it came up was a gun with a bayonet and another gun.

In past editions flanking only worked for melee. I don’t want to carry forward assumptions from past editions. Right now I don’t see anything that prevents this from working,

The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

This game will be using the pregens created for the adventure.

I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post here so everyone involved knows.

Since this adventure uses pregens, I believe that you will be allowed to select the character to credit at the end of the scenario. I will give more information once I’ve had a chance to review the sanctioning document.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. It should include your AC, Saving Throws, Perception, Exploration mode activity, conditions and expendable daily resources. If you are using a generic alias, also include the character name in the header.

I will be checking the PbP GM Kit to see if there are pregens already created for this adventure. Since it has only recently been released, there aren’t at the time of this posting but I expect that could change soon.

Botting

Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.

Please include instructions in your profile and some general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. I highly recommend this include the dice expressions used for common actions. I am currently recruiting for a Core run of the Faithless & Forgotten series.

#7-14 Faithless & Forgotten, Part 1: Let Bygones Be (1-5)
#7-16 Faithless & Forgotten, Part 2: Lost Colony of Taldor (1-5)
#7-18 Faithless & Forgotten, Part 3: The Infernal Inheritance (1-5)

I do plan to run all three in sequence and would prefer characters that can play through the whole series. As this is a core campaign, please make sure your characters are Core. If you go to your Organized Play page (My Account/Organized Play) it should show PFC after the Org Play and Character number. If it says PFS(1ed) then the character isn't recognized as core.

Please do check that your character is marked Core before applying.

Thank you!

If there are resources you don’t mind being used up by botting, please say so. If there are resources you never want a person botting using, it is alright to say that as well.

If it makes you more comfortable, you could specify who you want to run your character when you can’t post.

If your character has any abilities that interrupt play such as Swashbuckler Parry and Repost, Dual Cursed Oracle’s Misfortune Revelation, the Bard Spell Saving Finale or anything else that would interfere with resolving a check, I ask that you have something at the start of your Botting instructions about when you want this used. The reason is that it can really slow down a PbP if every action is serialized.

In my experience, creating a bot structure can help with your own posts as well. Assuming you put complete dice expressions in the botting directions, it makes it easy to cut and paste.

Attack with Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I (and many other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones. Waiting for everyone to post in exact initiative order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

Welcome!

Time for the next game in the rotation. This time I get to GM!

If there are rules questions, please post them in the discussion thread rather than interrupting the gameplay thread with rules debates.

We have an established group, so I don't expect we need much of the rest of my normal spiel.

Let's have fun!

The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

Composite Shortbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 Range 60’, Propulsive, Deadly
Cold Iron Piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 6
If crit, add Deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 8

Axel Miner swings at the groo.
Light Pick: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 Agile, Fatal d10
Piercing damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
If crit, replace with fatal: 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will use your exploration activity to determine which skill to use in Initiative.

Quote:

Attack with Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

I (and many other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones. Waiting for posts in initiative order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve.

I was disappointed by the Playtest Survey. I really think they are missing an opportunity to collect information with some of the questions. They asked which feats in various ranges the person filling it out were the most powerful.

I think they also should have asked which were the least interesting / least powerful options -- things that aren't worth taking. It would not only help them look at what doesn't look very good, but if they cross-reference it with what people consider the most powerful it could give some balance to both sides. Something where opinions are sharply divided means either lots of table variation (bad thing), misunderstanding how it works (bad thing), or sharply different play styles. Only the last is alright.

My own list would be:

1-4: Combat Assessment. A savings of one action to find out about what you just (hopefully) hit. Doesn't matter if you hit or miss, no one can try it again on that target for a day.

5-8: Steady Spellcasting. All the other feats look better to me.

9-12: Magic Sense. Yes it is slightly better than the heritages that give Detect Magic as an innate spell (there are multiple ones that do that) but still it really doesn't compare given the level it is at. I could see taking it if it were a Feat 1 or Feat 2.

13-16: Effortless Concentration: I'm not foreseeing a lot of Magus casting spells that require concentration. This may just be my own playstyle.

17-20: Versatile Spellstrike: Here I liked all the possibilities. With how sharply spell power tapers off I'm really not certain that a spell that is two levels lower is worth being able to pick any spell from the spell book. It is further limited by needing to be used with Striking Spell.

Having played with the Magus a little bit including one playtest session, I have to wonder what happens when a scenario has the Magus as the boss.

With a boss fight, the opponent is going to be higher level than the party. That means they are going to get more criticals than players normally can. Already that has been a problem in some cases with bosses that are just big piles of hit points, it is going to be extremely dangerous with a Magus as the big boss.

The boss is going to get critical hits at least 10% of the time, likely much more. If they get that critical when delivering a spell, the spell is extremely likely to do something -- there are a lot of spells that have an effect even on a failure. More importantly, it will have a good chance of turning into a critical failure.

I am concerned that the Magus as an NPC enemy is going to be much more deadly than expected because of how critical hits work in PF2 and how they currently have it chain into the spell effect for Striking Spell. It seems like it will be even more spikes for damage than the class was in PF1, and in PF2 that boss will always have the edge in getting criticals.

PF2 is still relatively new. Although I have both played it and GMed it via PbP, I am still experimenting with what works best for me.

Come join me for a fun game!

This is the recruitment thread for my PF2 #1-22 Doom of Cassomir for Play by Post Gameday IX.

The game will be open for early GM signup on August 5th, 2020 and general signup on August 12th, 2020. I plan to take people on a First Come, First Serve basis and will be limiting it to a table of six. The game will not start until September 1st 2020.

I will expect everyone to post in on the Discussion thread between a week and three days before the start of the game. That allows me to know that everyone is ready.

Since sometimes players fail to show, I would not mind having one or two extras signed up. I will be offering seats to them if someone drops or fails to show up.

This is an investigation mission with a reasonable amount of combat mixed in. Some people just don't like being investigated. :)

Hello everyone!

We are a long-term CORE party making our way through PFS Season 5. We are looking for a replacement core campaign character to join our group on our adventures. The group is fun and role-play oriented.

Most of the group is fourth level with 10xp.

We have been trading off the GM duties but there is no requirement that the person coming in GM if they don’t want to. What do we want? Someone who roleplays and has good chemistry with our team. We’ll also need someone who will fulfill group needs with a cast that rotates a bit as different people step up to GM.

Currently, our members are:

Damiar Apastron -- Mischievous Elven Bard Archer, twin to Iovo
Iovo Apastron -- Mischievous Elven Rogue / Wizard, twin to Damiar
Phinellippa Diotrice -- Inquisitive Gnome Wizard Illusionist with her familiar, The Amazing CoCo
Kleines Johann -- Strong and Stalwart Human Paladin of Irori
Rees Kovu -- Somewhat Paranoid Elven Ranger
Garif Stonetoe -- Well grounded Dwarven Druid with his black panther, Nico

If you think that might be you, post a bit below in character and tell us about yourself! We won’t necessarily be taking the first person to post, as there are a lot of factors we want to balance here.

Thanks for applying!

Sir Cumference waits for the elven mechanic Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his bowcaster before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with High Tech Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

Rules Questions

If there are rules questions, please post them in the discussion thread rather than interrupting the gameplay thread with rules debates.
