GM Bret |
Welcome!
I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.
I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows.
Character Profiles
Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. At the least it should include current/maximum Stamina, Hit Points, Resolve Points, EAC and KAC, and saving throws.
In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do so please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.
If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.
If you want examples, the PbP GM Kit has the pregenerated characters done in BB Code. Use those as a general guideline.
Botting
Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.
Please include botting instructions in your profile and a general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.
Please also indicate if you have a preference for who runs your character. If there are resources you don’t mind them using, please say so.
If your character has any abilities that interrupt play such as Swashbuckler Parry and Repost, Dual Cursed Oracle’s Misfortune Revelation, the Bard Spell Saving Finale or any other things that can interrupt the normal sequence to allow an action, modify a check or cause a re-roll, I ask that you have something in your Botting instructions about when you want this used.. The reason is that it can really slow down a PbP if you have to serialize actions.
Initiative in PbP
I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.
When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.
Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:
Sir Cumference waits for the elven mechanic Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his bowcaster before charging the Wily Snark.
Attack with High Tech Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.
Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.
Chronicle information
In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I will be using RPGChronicles. I will provide a link in the campaign information.
You do not need an account in order to put your information in.
I use this to send chronicles and report the game.
Rules Questions
If there are rules questions, please post them in the discussion thread rather than interrupting the gameplay thread with rules debates.

@Delikie,
Could you please sign in on RPGChronicles? You don’t need to make an account. I use this to generate the chronicles at the end of the session.
@Delikie, Tad & Zarzucket 3,
Could you please add your avatar to slide 2 of the maps and handouts?

If any of you has any questions, feel free to ask here.
You can thank Hilary for how nice the slideshow looks. She allowed me to use a copy of her slide show.

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. RZMR shares his excitement to team up with Chance once more, Your endeavors, marked by determination and courage, have invited my benevolent gaze. Please wait until the red light stops blinking, as another vehicle may be crossing.

Chance leveled to Level 3. I am trying to decide what feat to give her between:
* Fleet (Get into Melee sooner!)
* Weapon Focus (make it more likely for my solar weapon to hit)
* Coordinated Shot (make it easier for my colleagues to hit with their ranged attacks.)
They are all kind of great feats. Thoughts?
RZMR |
Embrace the determination of momentum and let it birth the star of swiftness within you. Fleetness is not just speed, but the synergy between body and spirit, a manifestation of your cosmic destiny in motion. No parking between 8am and 10pm.
RZMR also managed his third level. I went with iron will... for flavor really. Zoey has fleet, it's also great for running away.
GM Bret |

Weapon Focus only helps you hit.
Coordinated Shot allows multiple of your team to have a better chance of hitting and only requires some maneuvering on your part.Of those two, I would often go with Coordinated Shot.
Fleet is also a good feat but for completely different reasons. It gives you greater ability to get into melee and pairs well with your Stellar Rush.
I would rate them: Fleet, Coordinated Shot, Weapon Focus.

If people want to start roleplay, you could meet in Rec Room 121 before heading out to the Exo-Guardian’s offices in Downlow. Allow you to meet and interact with each other.
Gameday XII does not officially start until Sept 4th, which is Labor Day in the US. If anyone is going to take a long Labor Day vacation, now would be a good time to tell me. Otherwise I intend to start the game once the convention starts.

Like Chance and RZMR aren't going to go do silly things. Silly is our play language.

fair warning to everyone: this is my first time playing this character, or any biohacker. I'm going to reread the rules now that this game is starting up, but I may still do silly things.
I would suggest you take some notes and make sure you have both a melee and ranged weapon with the Injection property. How many notes depends on you. Could even put them in your botting spoiler so anyone that needs to Bot you would have the information.
I have not had a chance to play my Biohacker yet, but here are the notes I took for them.
Biohack boosts
Neurochemistry boost Ignore confused and staggered conditions for the booster's duration.
Basic Booster
+1 enhancement bonus to AC.
+2 enhancement bonus to skill checks.
+10-foot enhancement bonus to their speed. If the creature has more than one movement type, choose one to receive this bonus.
Minor Booster Attempt a Medicine check to administer first aid (does not use a hack)
Biohack inhibitors
Neurochemistry inhibitor –2 penalty to Will saving throws.
Basic Inhibitor
-2 penalty to AC.
reduce the target's DR by 5.
You reduce the target's resistance to one type of energy (your choice) by 5.
Minor Inhibitor –1 penalty to attack rolls for a number of rounds equal to 3 + your key ability score. (does not use a hack)
You would want to substitute in your own specialization.

As the author of this scenario, please don't have me make decisions. I selected Chance for this because of Chance's happy go lucky and rather predictable personality. She opens doors, and if she finds trouble, she hits it with a butterfly on her fist. I am trying to take a back door to all of you because the player knows everything about what is going on in the background.
Zarzucket 3 |
My posts may be a little terse for a few more days. I'm back, but not 100%; not feeling well enough to post the way I like. I think my terse posts are still better than being botted, though.
Hope you feel better!

btw good to play with you. You used to GM PFS 1e for me.

Wow, planar missions, that's a blast from the past. I started RPGs with 2nd ed Planescape...

Everyone, the adventure does not start until we are all in the room. Tad and Zarzucket, are you ready to go in?

I'm sorry, everyone; I'm like a walking zombie right now due to a short, but not worrisome, rough patch in real life. I expect the situation to resolve in the next few days. I'm going to take this weekend off from PbP, and will return to normal posting on Monday. Please bot as needed; using up spells or consumables is fine.

On behalf of AbadarCorp Entertainment, have an encouraging photocard. Take it easy, we'll be here for you when you are ready to return.

Zoey, she's just unfuriating. Is there anything she will ever take seriously? You can have an industrial level disaster covering an area in toxic vapour, and she'll just walk straight in wearing a gas mask with a smile in her eyes that say 'nothing to worry about, everything is going to be be fine'. Strange thing is, everyone around her will believe it too.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. Please take all the time you need to grieve and heal. The games can wait, and it's completely understandable that you're not able to focus on them right now. Sending you my condolences during this tough time.
DICEBOT |
@Tad/Redelia: I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a friend you've spent so much time with is hard, and takes time to process. We're here if you need some distraction (which includes the discussion thread if you just want to vent). In the meantime, I've set up DICEBOT to take care of Tad.
All: I have made a copy of Tad's build in Hephaistos and linked it in my strapline. If someone has better ideas for what he could do, just go ahead and suggest something.
Chance the Fortunaut |
Losing beloved pets is so hard. Hugs Redelia!
Thanks for making a botting spoiler for Tad, Dicebot.

Mischievous player here. If it's like before, and the simulation doesn't start before everyone is in, could we not tinker a bit with the setup before its activated? E.g. blindfold the robots...
RZMR |
So, just curious.
How many of you read Slide 15? I had mentioned it here but the total lack of discussion at any point makes me wonder.
Stares shyly at the floor, avoiding eye contact

Oh, hol up... historia three, and historia 4 is... I see. The one we encountered was just a hologram, right? Or is she the real deal?

You really have no idea at this point... But there is so much cool stuff to investigate!
Tad Treesker |
I think I've got the main plot points. On top of everything in real life, I'm struggling with how much Tad did not turn out the way I intended at all. He was supposed to be a descendant of my PF1 eclesitheurge lick-healing froggie, and it just doesn't feel like I've captured that feel in the new Tad.

I am not familiar with the original PF1 character. I would guess they used a combination of a Grippli tongue feat with a touch healing ability.
I don’t know if anything like that in SFS, but there might be a way to emulate it.
It looks like there is a weaponized prothesis. If you could combine that with a reach weapon that has the injection property that would be close.. perhaps combine it with Adaptive Biochains to make it biological rather than cybernetic?
I’m not sure how practical this is. It would take some research and looks like you would need to be 4th level to get access to some of the parts.
There might be other ways to approach it.
If you could talk about the key features you want to emulate in some fashion from PF1, we could try to come up with some ideas.

“Oh, and for completing the simulation you have each earned a Starfinder Backpack emblazoned with the Dataphiles logo. I hope you will not hold the actions of one android against the whole faction. In my time, I met a lot of really interesting people.”
A robot brings in the backpacks and hands one of them to each of you.

Very nice.
I am still amused that the Dataphiles logo continues to be rotated 90 degrees from what it is supposed to be. It is supposed to be an eye looking into a biometric scanner.

Did you notice who the author for that scenario is?
Chance will make things easier for Bret by voting for option 1 so that he can report this scenario!

Yep, a very talented one. Here's hoping she can find the time to run an author table on the paizo boards Nudge nudge wink wink
