GM Spazmodeus |

Welcome adventurers!
Here are my character creation guidlines for our AD&D campaign.
Source: Players handbook only, no Unearthed Arcana. Let's keep it old school ! :)
1. Roll for abilities in order Str, Int, Wis, Dex, Con, Cha
4d6 dropping the lowest.
2. Choose your Gender
3. Choose your Race
4. Choose your class(es)
5. No evil alignments
6. Roll your starting gold
7. Magic-users roll for your starting spells ( a d10 and a d3, 5 times )
If anyone needs access to PHB pdf, PM me.
I toyed with homebrew, but will be running a series of interconnected published modules.
We'll be starting our adventures in the Hold of the Sea Princes, so construct any background accordingly.
After some more reading of the rules, I remembered that the whole training concept was really just a treasure sink and a way to delay level advancement.
That said, I'll still bring it into effect during some downtime periods.
I'm planning to stick to the rest of the rules-as-written. But I reserve the right to amend that as circumstances dictate.
I've probably forgotten something, or a bunch of somethings. If so let me know!
Thanks
Al

Scranford's preliminary Character stuff: (part 1)
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 2) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 3) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 1) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 3) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 3) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 2) = 10
STR: 12
INT: 14
WIS: 14
DEX: 12
CON: 13
CHA: 8
I'm probably going to re-use this Alias as I have so many. I'll adjust as things are resolved. I'll have to review the PHB to see what I'm best suited for. I think I remember we used to be able to deduct 2 points to one ability and add 1 to another. Does this ring a bell?

AGM Lemming |

I remember that rule starting before the 1st edition PHB had "1st Edition" on it.... Not sure where it came from but I don't think it is in that book.
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 2) - 1 = 7
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 5) - 4 = 16
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 1) - 1 = 14
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 2) - 2 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 1) - 1 = 8
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 2) - 2 = 11
Str: 7
Int: 16
Wis: 14
Dex: 13
Con: 8
Cha: 11
Interesting. I don't think I'll play a fighter! ;-)

1. Roll for abilities: Str, Int, Wis, Dex, Con, Cha
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 1) = 11 => 10
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 2) = 15 => 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 1) = 12 => 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 3) = 14 => 13 + 1 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 3) = 11 => 10 - 1 = 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3) = 11 => 10
2. Gender = Male
3. Race = Elf
4. Class(es) = Fighter/Magic-User/Thief (Why not? It's been a long time since I've been able to play an AD&D style multi-class...)
5. Alignment = Chaotic Good
6. Starting Gold = (5d4 + 2d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 3, 2) + (1, 1) + (1, 1) = 16)/ 3 * 10 = 53 gp 6 sp 20 cp
7. Starting Spells
1d3 + 1d10 ⇒ (2) + (2) = 4 = Hold Portal
1d3 + 1d10 ⇒ (2) + (5) = 7 = Light
1d3 + 1d10 ⇒ (1) + (8) = 9 = Erase
1d3 + 1d10 ⇒ (2) + (6) = 8 = Magic Missile
1d3 + 1d10 ⇒ (2) + (2) = 4 (Same as Roll #1, Re-roll?)
1d3 + 1d10 ⇒ (2) + (4) = 6 = Jump
@DM How are you wanting to do HP? Rolled I assume?
(1d10 + 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + (3) + (3) = 13)/3 = 4

Black Dow |

Nope. :)
Must have been a house-rule.
Defo was a proper rule - but I think from Basic - me probably carrying it over into my C&C campaign likely confused matters :S
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 6) = 20 = 17 STR
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 4) = 14 = 13 INT
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 3) = 16 = 13 WIS
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 4) = 12 = 10 DEX
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 6) = 15 = 14 CON
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 4) = 10 = 9 CHA
So Half-Orc it is :) [+1 STR, +1 CON & -2 CHA]
18 STR 1d100 ⇒ 40
13 INT
13 WIS
10 DEX
15 CON
7 CHA
Dammit - DEX mucks up delusions of Assassin so Fighter/Cleric it is...
Gender: Not sure yet - was leaning toward Male initially but a brute strong half-orc gal might be fun also. Lemme percolate that one.
Alignment: Also not sure - will depend on the god they follow I guess...
Starting Coin: 5d4 + 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 2, 3) + (1, 5, 5) = 28/2 = 14 x 10 = 140GP
Starting HP: 10F+8C = 18/2 = 9+1 = 10HP
@GMS: So if we're starting in the Hold of the Sea Princes - is it Greyhawk pantheon we're using chief?

Bombadil |

Str: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 1) = 8
Int: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 6) = 13
Wis: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 5) = 19
Dex: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 2) = 11
Con: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 4) = 13
Cha: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 1) = 13
Strength: 7
Intelligence: 12
Wisdom: 15
Dexterity: 10
Constitution: 12
Charisma: 12
Looking like a cleric, I'll sit down and figure out the character build. Looking forward to this game!

AGM Lemming |

Where do I find weight of armor?
Male Half-Elf Cleric (Corellon Larethian) / Magic User
Starting Gold: 3d6 + 2d4 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) + (2, 2) = 19 /2 x10 = 95
Starting Spells:
1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 01d10 ⇒ 5: 5: Dancing Lights
1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 01d10 ⇒ 5: Duplicate/Reroll?
1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 21d10 ⇒ 9: 29: Ventriloquism
1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 11d10 ⇒ 7: 17: Mending
1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 01d10 ⇒ 10: 10: Find Familiar
1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 11d10 ⇒ 2: 12: Hold Portal
Hmm..... I'll create a character sheet soon.

Albion, The Eye |

Thank you for the invite Spazmodeus!
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 5) = 17 Str 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 2) = 10 Int 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 1) = 5 Wis 4 Ouch
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 2) = 15 Dex 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 4) = 13 Con 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 5) = 19 Cha 16
Looks like a Charismatic Fighter of some sort.
Maybe a Dwarf Thief. Or Fighter/Thief.

AGM Lemming |

@Albion. According to the PHB, page 11, Wisdom table 1. With wisdom 5 or below,"Here or lower the character can only be a thief." Not sure why. It doesn't say anything about Int or Wis is the pages for the Fighter class. ?? Actually, on the Intelligence Table 1 on page 10, it says at 5 or below you can only be a fighter. ??
I was going to go Magic-User/Cleric/Thief. But it doesn't give that as an option for multi-class. As Magic-User/Cleric I'm limited to level 5 Cleric and Level 6 Magic-User. Then it's time to retire since I can't gain any level from there.

Gobson Jibbs |

Here's the initial build, I'll refine it over the weekend and fill out the character early next week.
Gobson Jibbs
Human Cleric of Pelor, AC 7, HP 8
Alignment: NG
Deity: Pelor
Strength 7
Dexterity 10
Constitution 12
Intelligence 12
Wisdom 15
Charisma 12
110 gp before purchases, will deduct and adjust as I finish the build
Weight before encumbered: 35 lbs
Weapon Proficiencies: Footman's Mace, Sling
Padded Armor, 10 lbs
Small wooden Shield, 3 lbs
Footman's Mace, 10 lbs
Sling and 12 Bullets, 4 lbs
Backpack, 2 lbs
Cloak, 2 lbs
Waterskin, half full, 3 lbs
Holy Symbol, 1 lbs
Adjustments from ability scores:
to hit -1
magical attack +1
bonus spells: 2 1st, 1 2nd

I think you are absolutely correct. Guess a Dwarf Thief it will be ;)

Albion, The Eye |

That's what I chose as well. should we be kin? rivals?
Not really a choice from my end, or I would avoid duplication :/
It seems we will then have a Dwarf Thief and an Elf F/M/T.
So I think I will go Halfling just to be different, though Halflings cannot see in the dark, so you’ll have to do the scouting in your own.
