On the right side, you need to add characters for each player.
I had already created a Posh, including a token. Make PC tokens (and NPCs) there, and assign them to players. People can add their own pictures. Then when you drag them to the map from the right, the player will control their own token. I have dragged “my Posh” onto the map, so you can delete the square one that doesn’t have a token border on it.

so to create characters. on the upper right youll see the chat bubble, Something that looks like a painters palette, thats where the monster, character, npc, map icons will be stored as you upload them from your computer. I normaly search on the internet for something I want to load, then save it to my computer.
next to that will be labeled 'Journal'
Thats what you click to add a character. Youll see a + Character tab.
Click it.
then youll name the character (I did one for Dargon already) But then ...only you can do this part....is assign the player to the character. Put an icon for them in both the two slots. Then click the edit token properties.
things you want to do there.
1. Represent Character
2. give it a name tag if you wish
3. under dynamic lighting give it vision and go down the vision row deciding what it has .
these are musts.
you can play around with the rest

Thanks Dargon! I did the edits to associate the avatar tokens with the players. Please confirm you can operate your tokens. Morthos, you will need to create your avatar.
I am using the free version of Roll20 so no dynamic lighting. I agree that was kinda cool when I played in your campaign, Dargon, but before I commit to that subscription I want to be sure we're in it for the long haul here. If someone opens a door I'll reveal the room for all players.

Hey folks! Didn't mean to keep you in suspense, just thought the game was dead. All hail Therenger for reviving it!
Rendylyn awaits her turn. I'll figure out Roll20 later tonight.

Can you right click on each PC in the bar on the right, and allow All Players to see each of them, and MAYBE even edit them. The time does happen when someone says "bot me while I'm gone" or "Can someone move me, I'm on my phone right now" and that gives the other Players the ability to see and move their tokens.

I did something. Let me know if that worked.

Dargon Lake |

Follow These Steps exactly For Each Character.
1. Go to Journal Tab
2. Click + Character
3. Change name from Generic Generated name to a character name
4. ignore 'in players journals' and move down to 'Can be edited/controlled by'
5. assign the players name from the drop down menu associatedfor that character
6. Pull character portrait from your art library and drop it onto Avatar and Token locations.
7 click edit token properties.
The tokens you have on the map are not associated with the player so they cannot be moved by 'us'. they will have to be replaced by tokens in the journal tab. If Youd like help ...someone to talk you through this, I am available. DM me.
Ive used Roll20 for years now. lot of trial and error.

GM Therenger |

Ugh, I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and I deleted you by accident, Dargon.
I had previously associated the 4 players who had managed to add themselves using the Edit Token Properties and "Represents Character" to the appropriate player. I thought that was working although only Posh has moved himself so far.
How do you make it so that every player can move any token?

Rendylyn the Red Waif |

See, that there is how you craft with improvised tools.
(I was imagining Posh would use Prestidigitation.)

Rendylyn the Red Waif |

Prestidigitation says it can't do anything another spell can do. Wish (and similar spells) can do anything we might reasonably expect a 1st-level-spell can do, so logically, Prestidigitation can't do anything.
(Expect table variation.)

I'm fed up with Roll20. I can't drop art onto the map now. I've watched youtube videos and read blog posts. Nothing so simple in purpose should be so difficult to make work. I believe Google Sheets will serve our purposes just fine unless anyone else wants to own the Roll20 map.

GM Therenger |

Yeah I was trying to add the guard token I had previously uploaded. No matter, we'll move back to slides this week.

Treesa Lore |

I work with slides on another game. As long as you upload the main map as a background so nobody can accidentally move it we've not had any issues.
Or you only give read access to the players.... and move the characters as they state their movement.

GM Therenger |

Is this the whole map? I own the whole series, but haven't broke it open in years. Want me to get the whole map into there?
It's the immediate area. I am happy to hand off this responsibility to someone who knows what they're doing with it.

GM Therenger |

Wow! Thanks for doing that! The significant change I had made to the previous map was to use 5' squares based on the map in the module instead of 10'. Tables being 15' long and 10' wide seemed ridiculous. I'd like to stick with the smaller space for tactical expediency.

We have a map of the facility though, right? Of course it wouldn't show secret doors or traps....
Even with GM rights those of us that are players shouldn't peek.... or use player knowledge.

Javell DeLeon |

Well, right now we can all see the whole map! Placing a mask over parts of the map won't do anything, really. Hold on, I'll cover some things up.
Ok, I covered up "Level 3" in the tower map. If you aren't a GM, you'd not be able to see anything there, as a GM, it's a grey mask.
I feel "super powerful" with all this "GM" control.
'Hello! I'm now the all-powerful GM!' *click* *click* *click* 'And I now have clicked things!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Take that, puny pc's!!!'
'Um, Javell, where did the map go? And our tokens? And why is there a picture of Taylor Swift in the place of where the map SHOULD be?'
Blinking several times while staring blankly, "I don't know. Somebody's clicking things. Pretty sure it was Posh OH LOOK AT THE TIME! GOTTA GO!'
(Note to self: Do NOT click things. Bad. Just... bad). ;)
