Hey folks! I'm a professional editor in his 50s living in Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois. I've been gaming since the 70s, when someone brought the red box Basic D&D set to my elementary school. These days I GM a local game of Mage: the Ascension and am wrapping up a year-long campaign of Frosthaven. I'm looking forward to gaming with you!

Posh Stemtimple |

Mid 50s gamer here also. Been doing D&D and such since the 70s. Played every version through 3.5. Loved Alternity, shame it got canceled. Didn’t feel like going to 4.0, so we switched to Pathfinder. We’ve played a couple Starfinder APs also, and some Pulp Cthulhu. Not interested in 5.0.
Anyways, here I am, ready to tread the other side of the fence, and be the problem, rather than the solution for once.

Hello all from your wicked witch! Glad to be joining!!!
Introductions with real life? Cool. I've been playing D&D and various others since 1977 when a friend invited me to a game. He had the little soft cover "books" and the group needed a cleric. Several die rolls later and I had my first character. A couple d20 rolls later I killed my first goblin. A few later and my cleric was dead, but I was hooked on the game! I'm in the Raleigh NC area, so Eastern Standard Time. And I tend to haunt the threads when I can. On the rare instance when I have to go in to the office, our firewall blocks me, but I check in when I get back home. I'm in my mid-60's, but not retired yet....
We're not the problem! The "goody-goody" folks are too good. That's just not natural and it needs to be fixed! So, once we take over, I'll be the Queen. Who's going to be my King!?! Looks like Rendylyn can be the head of The Church once we get rid of the others. ;P

Posh Stemtimple |

Raleigh huh? I was born there. In the old Rex Hospital, which is now some sort of County records building.
Spent some time here last year for a family wedding. We were sure to hit Benny Capitale's, and Sir Walter Coffee while we were there. We're big Benny's fans, as Benny Vitali's is in Fredericksburg. We've hit maybe 8 Benny's so far, and counting.

Treesa Lore |

Benny Capitale's I had to look up. I don't get downtown much. Lived in Wake Forest for a while, now in Zebulon. Work mostly from home so.... Looks good though. Might try it next time I head that way.

Kid's lookin for another strong beater. Is that you Dargon? Join us in the game thread for "introductions".
We've all met at a wonderful bar.... Well, there might be bars on the windows. Are there windows? Service sucks!
Just noticed Morthos hasn't checked in yet. He's probably the other strong man.

Javell DeLeon |

Hello, all! Yeah, got home from work and just got back from dinner.
Man, that's pretty wild learning that we're all similar in age. That's cool. That's rare.
I started playing when I was 11. My brother got me into playing. This is the book I started with(not my hand, by the way. I simply googled the image) :) along with the The greatness of DM's guides
Never did the Redbox thing. Outside of about a 10 or so year hiatus(RL and all that good stuff), I've been playing off and on since. I'm now 52. I've only ever played AD&D, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and now Pathfinder. It's the only system I know.
Used to play in RL but that faded away. Family and all that. Joined the boards here in 2009. And joined with absolutely NO IDEA on how to write. I still don't know how to write. I pretty much go by "feel" as to what's right and wrong when it comes to the technicalities of writing. I've learned A TON though, and I do enjoy the heck out of it. :)
I'm here in CST time. Fort Worth, TX. Where it's hot during the summer, hot during the winter, hot during the spring time, and during the fall... yep... still hot. ;) (Okay, maybe not THAT bad, but you get the gist. It's close to being that bad though). ;P
Dread! Cool to be in this one with you, bud. (I'm in Dread's Carrion Crown). :)
And while the majority of you are new faces to me, I do know Zahir ibn Mahmoud ibn Jothan.
Well, I say I know you. I've seen you around these boards for quite some time. Yours is a "familiar" name, I should say. I don't believe I've ever been in any games with you. Not that I can remember anyway.
Okay, on to the Gameplay thread...
Sorry for the hold up.

Javell, were close. Im in Austin (Im Dargon by the way)
and since we are sharing where we started... The original boxed set in 1975...the year my addiction started at the ripe old age of 15

I've been around for a while, to be sure. There are a number of folks with more posts than me but not a huge number.
I had fun in RPG Superstar one year!
I've never played here under that name. It was my Kingmaker PC for our home group, and I posted adventure logs back in the day,
Looking forward to this!

Austin! That's cool. Right down the road.
And that White box is cool! I don't think I've ever heard of that one. The Red box, yes. But the White box does not ring a bell. But man that looks cool. Fascinating stuff. :)

You do have a ton load of posts. Yeah, I always scroll over pc's that players submit to see who the "real"(for lack of a better word) person is, and have seen you around in that regard. There is NO WAY you can forget that name. ;D

I found Morthos' voice!

Rendylyn the Red Waif |

Do we want to do any tweaks to our characters before we begin in earnest? We have a solid spread of skills between us--the only gaps I see are Survival and Knowledge: Engineering.

Javell DeLeon |

Looking at Morthos, he can do nothing with those skills, unfortunately. Mainly because he just doesn't have enough skill points. But also because those aren't class skills so it really wouldn't make any difference.
I do like Survival. Too bad it's not a class skill for him or I would've tried to figure something out with that one.

When I made Zahir, I played him as a cross between Richard Francis Burton and Ahmad Ibn Fadlan. They were both amazing explorers and documentarians of their travels. One was West exploring Middle East, the other was Middle East exploring North and West. Both saw and recorded firsts.
Zahir’s internal monologue was Antonio Banderas voice though, and that’s how he came across.
I first ran across Ahmad Ibn Fadlan watching “The 13th Warrior”, of course, I then tracked down “Ibn Fadlan and the Land of Darkness” to read.
My first encounter with Burton was reading Borges’ “The Aleph” in HS Spanish class. And then I ran across him in Farmer’s “River World.”
He was an enjoyable character, who, alas, died ingloriously leading his people.
Hopefully Posh, who has no such lofty inspirations, does better.

Rendylyn the Red Waif |

By some coincidence, I just read Godsall's biography of Burton, The Tangled Web, a few weeks back. The author worked hard to peel back all the mythology around Burton to lay bare the truth--which, honestly, is more amazing than any fiction.
We're also missing anyone with Knowledge: Nature, btw.

Dargon Lake |

None of those are class skills for Dargon, so would gain little by taking them. And I'd have to dump a skull I get a higher mod for....for instance
Have Appraise +7 Survival +1. Could lose Appraise to get Survival +2. Doesn't seem worth it
Knowledge nature is a little better losing Appraise +7 to gain k-nature at +4

Kid Vicious aka "The Falcon" |

I can't recall every rolling for K Engineering. This would be the campaign, though. Oh, so you want to rebuild the pulley system to lower the drawbridge? Too bad.
Kid is too dumb to do anything with Knowledge skills. He's an angry teenager who hated his father but sort of admires, in retrospect, how the old man manipulated all the goody-goodies to get the better of every deal. Survival is simply gamesmanship. And anyway, no one expects the Monk to be the brains of any operation.
Missing you in Gameplay, Dargon.

Rendylyn the Red Waif |

Sounds like we do without for now. Probably not a big deal. We can coordinate to cover the missing skills--which I just realized also includes Knowledge: Planes as well as Nature and Engineering--at our first level up.

Someone has already offered to perform fellatio on your deity, so I'd say you're doing a great job of obtaining converts in this hellhole!

Same, same. Kid is snarky and reactive. He knows most people are quicker on the uptake than he is, and he doesn't like feeling that someone's putting one over on him. Given time to work through things he's not a complete dullard, but when cornered he'll probably say something offensive for self-preservation.

Javell DeLeon |

Luddites!
Yeah, well, Luddites to you, too, pal! *quickly looks up the word 'Luddites'.* (And totally not kidding. Lol!) :P
Lol! Good one! (Unfortunately, that term is actually quite fitting for me). :P
"C'mon, dear, let's go to Blockbuster and see what they have for rent." Looking confused, "What do you MEAN Blockbuster doesn't exist anymore?! When did they close?! Great. NOW what are we gonna do? Wait... what? 'Stream it'? What does watching a movie have to do with a river? Forget it, I'll just get one of my own movies. Where's the VCR controller?" ;D

Witty comebacks not being his strong suit, Kid merely hangs silently while Rendylyn yammers on. He crosses her off the list he had just added her to. The gang doesn't need anyone who talks this much.
On the other hand, the one who could have helped was the big bastard who speaks in riddles.
Lol! Oh man, I probably shouldn't encourage this ;) but I gotta kick out of these. Pretty funny. :D

"Perhaps we should all try to match Morthos' glowering so we can listen."
Lol! Another good one. Oh man, you people have me rolling over here. :)
Do we have a Lawful Funny group???
I think so. Man oh man, funny stuff. Poor Morthos. He's just hanging there in silence. Getting railed on by his fellow inmates. Too funny! :)
And just fyi, I'm a laugher. I love to laugh. My fellow coworkers like to mock me on my laugh. It's pretty funny. Makes me laugh. :D

Javell DeLeon |

Clearly Posh knew Morthos from Daverlyn.
Nice catch, Rendylyn!
Morthos never did give his name. I was wondering if someone was going to catch that. ;)
The guards used his name when they dropped him off!
Lol! Well done, Posh! Nice cover-up. *thumbs up*
"Now you play nice, Morthos!"
Lol!

Treesa Lore |

I always hate trying to remember who gave a name in the intro. Then I have to refer to that character by a descriptive rather than a name. "Kid". The other woman.... I noticed after I posted that Rendylyn did give her name.
