Rhaegal is ready.

He had a horde of gold sitting, so I made some major purchases:
Resilient rune
Dread (lesser) rune
Charm of Acid Resistance
scrolls of Sound Body and Clear Mind at rank 4

Now he'll be saving up for his own Wyrm on the Wing tattoo next level.

The Remastered, New and Improved Callaverthorna is ready also!

I dropped all the Medicine skill feats that he'd only used once or twice. He's also found Jesus ... umm, no certainly not. Though he's decided to start following Nivi Rhombodazzle. Even got a little dice-shaped tattoo to go with his dragon tat. (Swapped in Pilgrim's Token.) And still had room for Slippery Prey and Rolling Landing.

No changes to his class feats, and the only gear change was getting a starknife in place of the throwing knife.

Level 9 Pathfinder Provisions has the option of taking a 5th rank scroll of Breath of Life (divine tradition only).

1) How do scrolls of spells that are cast as Reactions work? You draw it and immediately use your reaction to cast it?

2) Is this a better choice (either generally or for our current party composition) than a Rank 5 heal?

1) You need to keep them on hand to use them as a Reaction.

2) That's impossible to answer. I've saved a character's life (twice) with Breath of Life, but I've cast much more Heals.

I would think Breath of Life is less useful than in 1e with the dying rules and the ranged option on the Heal spell. You essentially get a few round buffer before someone needs Breath of Life (in fact you can't cast it at dying 1), and during all that time a normal Heal spell works.

I guess there are certain instances where someone becomes at threat to die very quickly (persistent damage, having been at wounded 2 before), and if you had just 1 action left, you could draw the scroll and wait to see if they make their recovery check. If not, then you cast as a reaction. But that seems a very niche instance.

It would be nice for BoL to say that scrolls of it can be drawn as a part of the reaction (like healer's tools). Or just make it a talisman instead of a scroll.

So my vote is for a Rank 5 Heal if you're deciding between them.

I have four PCs ready, waiting for Isaku and Crunch.

I'm still working on slides, so no time pressure yet.

Posting with my main for spell advice.

I've never found Breath of Life to be particularly useful. I have it on higher level characters when 5th rank spell slots aren't as valuable, but I can't imagine taking up one of my top rank slots or holding a scroll in my hand at all times in case I need it.

On top of that, for Pathfinder Society, I think I've literally only seen 2 PCs ever die. One died specifically because none of us were in range to heal them, so I don't even know if Breath of Life would have saved them. The other died to the "massive damage" rule, before scenario writers stopped putting Level+3 monsters as bosses. (Both were Level 1-4 scenarios, so BoL wouldn't have been available.)

signaled that Isaku is ready here. Is there something I need to do?

Provisions are the same for lvl 8. 2 x Moderate Healing Potion.

To use a scroll I need to be able to cast the spell, right? So if Isaku can't cast Lightning bolt, he can't use the scroll?

I think Crunch is all set at level 9.

No appreciable amount of money to make purchases with, and few nonfixed upgrades/choices.

You need it in your list. So if you are an Arcane or Primal caster you can use a Scroll of Lightning Bolt, whatever your actual ability to cast it in your spell slots (mostly because you are not level 5).

I got one character killed, I killed 2 and I've saved one character with BoL (twice in the same adventure, Doomed 3 is a killer).

So I feel experience differs on this question :D

BoL has a 60ft. range, so it covers most of the map in general.

Our experience does differ! I've never even seen Doomed in a PFS scenario, but then again, I've mostly been GMing Levels 1-6 from Seasons 1-2.

Also, to be clear to everyone, all of this is discussion in general, so don't think I misled you if some creature in 2-22 or 2-24 ends up Dooming you all. I neither make claims that Breath of Life would be specifically useful nor that it would not be useful.

:)

This scenario will reference multiple other scenarios from Season 2.

Can you please indicate which of these scenarios you have Chronicles for, as a PC or GM, even if not with this PC specifically?

Appreciate all the input re: the scrolls. Cal has actually died once, although he's my only character to do so. I'll stick with the heal scroll.

@GM looks like both our #1-24 Outpost tables filled! No worries on that now.

But we could use some help over at Isaku's / GM Tiger's table of #3-6 Struck by Shadows. It's an eval table for him, and so far we've only got a level 6, a level 3, and the mystery evaluator. I'm not shilling for Isaku, this is totally a self-interested request. I just don't want to have to run a pregen along with running my own character; and, it'll be more fun with some good roleplayers like you all.

Eval as in he's going for his nth glyph and someone's going to be watching the table? If so, I'll join if it doesn't fill by, say, a few days prior.

(I'd be a little more commital but I'm stretched thin and I'd have to spend a Replay, but obviously it's a big deal for Tiger.)

And yeah, I was super surprised that both games filled pretty quickly. I figured it was Season 1 so a lot of people had played it already.

03-06 is my second eval. Xyntryx (VC for the Philippines) will be playing (he's the reserved player in the spreadsheet).

It's a 3-6 so Rhaegal would be out of range...
