The Lakota are seceeding, or trying to, from the U.S. The chances of them suceeding are slim, but I wonder how this will play out.

FOX News: Mr. Bush, though obviously your presidency was infinitely more trouble-free than the previous administration and the cloud of doubt that hung over it based on Bill Clinton's marital infidelity scandle, but what, if anything, did you see as a low water mark during your presidency?
Mr. Bush: Well, it was kinda funny when near the end of my second term two-hundred million Americans up and left for South Dakota. Pretty funny, John.
FOX News: It's Mike sir. And why do you think they did that Mr. Bush?
Mr. Bush: Obviously they were all terrorists.
FOX News: And the high point?
Mr. Bush: Pressing the red button. Though the payday the week after I left office was pretty good too. ::beems::

At least one other Native American tribe, the Muwekma Ohlone, are thinking of following suit. If the government ignores this too long, they could all try that.
I'm actually rooting for them.

That's fine. I sympathize, I really do.

It would really be interesting if something happened with all of this. The United States needs change on the homefront. It doesn't matter if it's for better or for worse. I just hate to see my country stagnating like this.
We NEED something to happen. A civil war. A zombie invasion. The return of magic. SOMETHING. I just don't want to be stuck in this rut for all of my natural life.

Did FASA get it right?
IN the SHadowrun universe the timeline shows the following activities in 2009:
1. Sovereign American Indian Movement (SAIM) seizes the Shiloh launch facility in Montana. Delta Team retakes the site, but not before the terrorists launch a Lone Eagle ICBM at Russia. The missile never arrives at its destination. The reasons for this are unknown by the public.
2. Re-Education and Relocation Act (Nepean Act in Canada) round up Native Americans into "reeducation centers".

"Means' group is based in Porcupine, South Dakota on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Means' group is not an agency or branch of any Lakota tribe, although he ran unsuccessfully for president of the Oglala Sioux tribe in 2006." from the Wiki
It doesn't sound like he represents the Lakota nation. The Lakota aren't seceding, not by what this Wiki article says. It looks to me like some activist types are stirring up crap.

But if the gov. decides to make something of it, we'll have a lot of (more) pissed off natives. Besides, the activists have some very legal points. The Lakota, and others, have every right to demand their land back.
BTW, about 1/8 of me gets to stay behind. The rest gets cannon blasted all over northern Europe and the UK.

Actually, me Irish is Scotch Irish. So soon as my arm gets to Ireland, It'll start petitioning the UK government to give it back it's Scottish land.
Who knows--my arm and your duodenum might be neighbors!
My Irish is Northern Irish, so as soon as my arms, torso, and head get back to old Eire, they'll start tolchocking Englishmen, then give up and run for Parliament.

Well, now that we've agreed that the Lakota Nation isn't actually seceding, I'm happy. I hope James Carey doesn't decide that Massachusetts is going to secede either.

Well, fine. Keep me updated on what's gonna go down, cause when I have to cede my house, I need to know if I'm going back to Norway, Germany, Scotland, or Wales or France like where my wife's people are from. I'm assuming we won't have to break up the family here.
Just if I'm gonna have to find gainful employment, that's 2 germanic or one romance language I'm gonna have to become fluent in, and that's a lot of work.

*shrug* They can leave, just don't expect them to take the land with them.
Or just slap really high tarrifs on anything coming in and out of the 'country'. Esepcially fuel costs.
Sorry, I'm just as native as any of them, so, meh.
Natural resources might be exactly why they won't let these tribes secede. Could you imagine if fuel rich natives in the U.S. (and Canada why not) were sovereign like Venezuela or Iran? Hoo boy.

I agree, the country is going downhill. My preference is for either the return of magic or zombies. Definitely zombies.
