@Mia, since both the paladin and the cleric are shelynites, do you think our characters know each other? It is a relatively small town. But with Mia's connection to the Sczarni, I could understand if they don't.

@Darius As I currently have her backstory, she was instructed into the clergy and faith at most a few months ago. Since the is doing penal servitude on the side in the town watch (as a healer, putting those skills to use), she is probably fairly early in that process and I imagine a close-ish watch was kept on her, with limited freedom. With Sandpoint only having one church/cathedral (to my knowledge), if you're a practicing devotee of Shelyn, I'd say the chances of us at least knowing of eachother are fairly high.
I'm not sure if they ever met previously to this, or what their relationship is now. I'm open to suggestions. I don't know how Darius feels about an ex-thief. If they met recently, Mia is probably (at least initially) a bit hesitant to trust him as being a paladin he's kinda like *the* instrument of the law, and he might know the full truth of situation which gives him leverage over her, in her mind. But that depends on whether or not the penal servitude and her background as a thief is public knowledge to the citizenry or if it's kept semi secret to give her more of a realistic second chance. Though I kinda like the idea of him being a mentor of sorts into Shelyn's faith if he's offered those kinds of services to the temple/Father Zanthus.
(Side note off-topic, looking at your character sheet, how does Darius have 13 hp with 13 con? Shouldn't it be 12?)
@Others, I haven't read all backgrounds yet but if anyone wants to think of whether there is a shared past of sorts with Mia, I'm similarly open to suggestions. Also, are there any skills we are currently missing? I could spend a trait to get disable device for traps if we're missing that, and it kinda fits her background to have it. Though It'd cost +2 initiative from Elven reflexes or Fate's Favored to pick it up so the cost is kinda high.

On the hp, he has 10 from paladin, 1 from con, 1 from FCB and one from...? His stat array and saving throws list his con as 13, his hp is calculated as if he has 14, it seems.

You are correct. I had the wrong Con modifier. Fixed. :)

Hi all. Larry grew up in Sand Point, only child of Rupert and Anita. They run a little shop, not making a killing but enough to live on.
His armor and weapon belt are like a second skin to him and if you ask he is fixated on defending the town from giants. He's 26 years old because he tried to work with his family before realizing that it just wasn't for him. He made friends with the sheriff and anyone else that could help him learn how to fight.

Veera's from Magnimar but has spent the last 2 months in standpoint and has visited many times before. She's been staying with a cousin who works at the glassworks but otherwise has spent most of her time around the rusty dragon inn or poking around at the old light ruins.
Hey Lawrence and Veera, good to meet you! I don't think I've ever been in a campaign with either of you before (or with Waskally/Darius), but please correct me if I'm wrong.
For establishing potential shared histories between characters, we seem to have a fairly strong theme with the town watch/Sheriff Hemlock across the party, with Mia currently in it, Darius having provided services to them until recently and Lawrence having friends there. Mia has only joined/been pressed into penal servitude there recently though, so if she knows Lawrence it seems more likely they met some time in the past. As a suggestion, maybe he knows her from way back before her family situation went south and they haven't seen eachother in a long while? Like childhood friends meeting again or such? Both their parents are shopkeepers so that seems to make sense. I'm perfectly fine with them just being strangers, though.
As for Veera, if she's an outsider and only recently in town it seems Mia knowing her previously would have to be a very recent chance meeting at the Rusty dragon.
Do either of you have preferences or suggestions?

Wyssal has only been in town for a few months, a temporary stopover with her friend who has relatives in town. But, she's the busy sort so it would be easy to at least recognize her by sight, or be acquainted with her. Wyssal and Odette are both occasionally working at Risa's place, owned and operated by Odette's cousins. Wyssal does a bit of housekeeping at Turandarok Academy, and she and Veznutt Parooh, who owns The Way North, have their beekeeping scheme.
Those would be her three primary connecting locations in Sandpoint, though Wyssal is hardly limited to just hose places. Wyssal is also quite nosey so even if you don't know about her, she probably knows about you

@Mia. We possibly met in teen years. You are four years younger (and half elf) so he might have seen himself as a protective older brother type. His family are devout followers of Cayden Cailean so he 'protected' any smaller children in the neighborhood, and followed along with any of the troublemakers to try and keep them from getting hurt. (or hurting others....)
@Darius. We probably know each other but might not be close friends. I would consider your belief to be too restrictive and you might feel that I'm flighty. But I'll happily enjoy an ale or three with you anytime....
@Lawrence IRL, I love playing caydenites. And IC Darius is aware of the flirtations of your patron to mine, so I don't see our characters not getting along; just running in different circles.
@Wyssal I sure hope Wyssal and Darius gets some time to collaborate musically. That would be very cool!
Already y'all are deciding if and how the characters know each other, I love that.
Like I said, I'll have the next day or so be mainly for RPing to get everyone situated.
@Mia Veera probably heard of your father and sought you out, asking questions about him and his work.
For everybody else you've probably seen her in the rusty dragon inn usually reading or writing while drinking tea. I'll let you decide if any of you said hello to her.
@Darius. I agree. I think we'd know each other, and probably trust and respect each other. Larry doesn't have any training in religion so you would have had to explain about any history of Shelyn and Cayden, probably over a drink or two at the Rusty Dragon? It would also help if you didn't cringe too hard at his singing if you ever perform at the Inn and invite patrons to join. ??
@Veera You probably have seen Larry at the Rusty Dragon, but would have avoided him as a rowdy that drinks too much. He probably stands out too because he always wears armor and a weapon belt as if they are normal clothing. No shield or bow or pack though, like you might see on random, wandering adventurers.
@Lawrence All right, that works. Is he aware that Mia fell in with what he'd probably consider 'the wrong crowd' for the past four or so years? I think that after her dad disappeared and her mother fell into a depression, Mia herself eventually withdrew from her normal social circles.
@Veera Interesting, that's a bit of a painful topic for her, but she'd probably have told you what she knew after inquiring why you'd want to know. Did she ask as part of her studies of old ruins in the area or such?
@Wyssal Cool. I apologize as I don't recognize the names of any of those places and they don't seem to be in the player's guide - what are those locations and are they all in Sandpoint? That said, if Wyssal is a rumormonger she probably knows of Mia's background.
@Everyone Generic question, is there anyone else picking up disable device as a skill? It fits Mia's background well and I'm inclined to take it instead of another trait, but there is the game-technical remification that if the fragile-ish cleric tries to disable a trap and fails, your main healer could simultaneously be down. If that ever happens it'd probably be up to Wyssal to get her back on her feet after such mishaps.
@GM Is there any target for how many real life days we have to round out any introductionary RP with characters meeting and/or knowing eachother before we start partaking in the festival and or the story is advanced? Also, do you not mind us writing the NPC's associated with us or would you prefer we didn't and left them to you?

@Mia. Larry would have been curious where you disappeared to. Did you run off and get married? Run away from some danger that you couldn't face? But he wouldn't ask. He'd just be really glad that you were back and healthy, AND possibly surprised when he noticed the holy symbol. That would have changed to happy when he finds that you are also working with the town guard, meaning happy that you were 'safe' and doing good like he is! He might start calling you 'little sister'!
As for disable device? As a fighter I of course do not have it. Your concerns are valid, and character creation/development is personal so I won't say yes or no for your choice. I would say that if you take it I think you should keep Fate's Favored. You can take Improved Initiative later or even Additional Traits. Divine Favor is so much better when you gain +2 instead of just the regular +1! Really great later when you can use a wand for the same. Duration of 1 minute is easily longer than pretty much any encounter!
@Lawerence. That's great. Along with occasionally playing his lute in The Rusty Dragon, Darius also expounds on what he knows of Shelyn and Cayden!

@Mia, not too long. either just til today, or until tomorrow. just enough time for everyone to establish character and connect as a group. Also, you can RP as the associated NPCs as long as they aren’t official NPCs (like Ameiko or Father Zantus)

Of course. I had some of the festival games saved somewhere, we can do one or two before you all head to the Rusty Dragon (unless Veera and Wyssal wants to participate)

@Mia, Veera would have mostly been asking about his last expedition, trying to sus out where he might have last been seen/heading off to.

She would have explained her research under professor Andrezi Moldovaci. She'd be hoping to find him alive but would say that whatever ruins caused his demise must be dangerous and her fellow researchers need be warned about them.
@Wyssal are you joining this scene at the Rusty Dragon or are you jumping in later at the festival somewhere?

Ouch! I've been pretty lucky and only got a light dose of it once. A couple of my friends got a bad dose of it. From the description, not something I ever want to experience.

So sorry to take such a long time to post. I got hit hard by covid and I'm only now starting to get back to sort of normal. I figure I'll skip the Rusty Dragon scene for fear of dragging that out longer, and just deal with meetings a little bit later so we can get things moving. Wyssal knows who you all are already anyway. She's nosy like that.

@Wyssal perhaps this is a moment where Mia and Wyssal can meet eachother so we're not just standing by at the sidelines while this is happening?
<sigh> Sorry I'm still so slow. I'm not back to 100% yet and the first part of September is really busy because of the start of the new school year. The "welcome back" evenings and "parents nights" and so forth can easily stretch by workday to 12+ hours. Also had a conference to attend the last couple of days.
Anyway, that's all pretty much over now, and next week going forward will be entirely more reasonable.
So Veera hasn’t been around for a while, and hasn’t responded to my DMs. I’ve been hesitant to move forward without her, let alone look for someone else, but what do you all think?
