OK, let's see how this turns out. Since we don't know who is going to side with whom, let's stick to strict init order for now. Maddy, you're up.

Hey Precious. I posted, left the site, reopened. It was still there so I deleted it. Not sure what problem you're having.

Issue was, everything I tried to post ended up going to preview, no matter how hard I pressed submit button. Cookie corruption does something similar, but this time issue was only in this game and only in the gameplay thread... but it fixed itself after a while, so...

@Hue - can you give Precious some insight into Hue's mental state please?

That's a good roll - I'm going to share a little of the high pass stuff I pm'd you with.

Kalanzar's turn, then Hue, then Alex. Let's try not to let this sit too long.

It’s a very great privilege to be roleplaying with someone I can trust.

I trust your decisions Kal and the way you balance In-character and meta decisions.

Looks like we're out of combat style rounds. Jimjar doesn't know enough about spiders to have anything to add, other than "creepy".

No one has done this in a while and I think engaging like this is worth it - I vote Kal gets inspiration. I also think Precious played the line very well while staying in character and should get the same.

One player going at another can make a mess - ruin whole playing threads -
(And many Marvel comic books)

Agreed. But I would also give inspo to Hue for initiating this engagement and acting very much in character :)

The people have spoken! You're always welcome to award inspo to each other. And I agree, that was nicely handled.

Hue, are you going to check out the spiders before moving on?

As a player above table, I very much want to go see what the communicating spiders want. I think following them would be very dangerous and interesting.

As Hue, he wants to find out what's going on but Precious was very convincing and no one else is being particularly antagonistic. He doesn't have a reason to sneak away. Even with Kal's attack, his friends are still his friends and everyone is voting to keep going.

He will very regretfully stay with the group and keep going.

Alex is somewhat quite interested in communicating, ideally peacefully, with creatures she normally cant communicate with due to (personality traits and tenets)

--I am totally certain that, because of my innate and obvious intelligence, making deals with Demon Lords, Eldritch Abominations, the tax collection service or my prospective mother in law will work out great for me!

--Wait, you are a Succubus? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS! Like, can you describe your funniest seduction? I got some pretty stupid stories to share as well! Do you agree that Bed Mimics should all burn in a fire?
Is it OK if I take notes?

However, she is currently at 20/52 hp, has a level of exhaustion. used all of her spells, and is a bit traumatized. To which her coping mechanism is being "super reasonable and sane" for a time.

Is Kip strong enough to help others up the stairs to either have them ride with Maddy (she can hold them) or give a bonus to their roll?

Sorry, forgot to post that the CON save DC is also 12.

Kip is too slippery to be ridden unless you're in the saddle. You could bring one of the small characters into the saddle with you with a successful animal handling check of 13. Then they don't have to roll at all.

Forgot to answer Precious's question - no, the giant didn't seem to notice any of you in particular when she made her accusation.

Btw, you should be at full HP, full spells and without exhaustion - we had a long rest.

Can I get another persuasion roll from Alex please?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Apologies for the silence, ended up doing a long-weekend getaway with the kids. Will catch up tomorrow.

I'm waiting to see if Precious picks up the hint from Kalanzar.

Bueller? Bueller?

As an aside, everybody will be able to fit down the crack except Kip. It'll just be a squeeze, and Precious will need to be VERY careful not to get his antlers hung up. Banging away at the stone in this earthquake zone would be very dangerous. Anybody can point that out to Lidelse.

Of the things most people find produces most stress I understand the top two are:
Public speaking
Moving
(Seems like a list written by people who have money but it isn’t for nothing)

Moving is the worst! Especially as I get older, it gets so much harder. Hopefully you're getting settled in.

Maddy's mouth... autocorrect, you win again...

HAHAHAHA!

Her mouth can make it down as-is. :)

You do not have what it takes to widen this crack. It would take days or weeks with your current equipment, and you are more likely to cause a full collapse of the tunnel than to fit Kip down that hole. Unless somebody has some helpful magic.

We can assume you get the mushrooms up to Kip. It will be an animal handling roll to get him to eat them.

I'll be away starting tomorrow until around July 2. I should be able to post as usual as I think I'll still have internet access. But feel free to bot Maddy if needed.

Time for a check-in. How are folks feeling about the game? How's your time look over the summer. We've really slowed down lately. I don't know if it's just a coincidental lull, or if the game is starting to drag, or what. Do we need a break? Do we need to fast-forward to Blingdenstone? Do we just need me to poke you? If so, here it is, poke poke. Be honest, we've been at this a long time, and if you're not feeling it any more, that's totally fair.

Stout Halfling Ranger lvl5 | AC 16/18 (st leather/shield) | HP 29/46 | Init +4 | P. Perception 12, P. Insight 12 | Exhaustion lvl0/Madness lvl3 | Inspiration: 1/2, Superiority dice: 2/4, Prim Aware: 1/1, Hunter sense: 2/2 | 14 arrows/18 bullets

I find the gameplay atmosphere difficult in that we never seem to have any real successes. We can save a few people but we aren't holding back the darkness at all. I find it difficult not distasteful. I like the particular challenges that it provides in gameplay - we're playing on the low reward setting. I don't want it to get easier.

It can, however, get oppressive. The real world has its' challenges and darkness, so coming back to these caves everyday can be a little hard on the creative juices.

I like the characters players have created and I enjoy interacting.

I'm open to keep going and be patient with the pacing; or, take a break for a bit and then start off again here or a little fast forwarded.

I don't love but would be fine with the idea of fast forwarding to Blingdengstone.

I don't really want to drop the game but if it's not working for others then it makes sense.

M LN Mountain dwarf Ranger 6 (Fey Wanderer) | HP 29/46 | AC 15 | Saves: Str +4, Dex +5, Con +1, Int +0, Wis +4, Cha +1 | Passive Perc/Insight 16 | Init +2 | DV60' | Spells 1/4, 2/2 | SwA 1/1, BS 1/1 | Insp 0/2 | Exh 0/6 | Madness 2

Yeah, I too find the AP's progress a bit peculiar - get into a settlement, find out there's a problem, realize the problem is way out of our pay grade, run for the hills, repeat in the next settlement.

Clearly, there's something strange going on in the Underdark, but so far there's been no hints as to what or why, and our characters have no in-game reason to believe it's our task to sort things out. So what if the evil druergar have a brewing dragon issue? All the better for the good races of Faerun! Should buy those dragon-youth-kidnapping cultists a medal, not try to stop them.

But then again, some other APs and modules have had pretty strange-seeming plots until finally the party has progressed far enough for some actual answers.

I agree with all those points, and its something I've been struggling with as a DM. The point of the adventure is that it's hard, and resource-poor, and scary. But when playing online, which takes soooo much longer than at the table, it can feel more oppressive than it might otherwise.

Kalanzar, Alexandra? Thoughts? (Not excluding Maddy, I just know she's away at the moment)

M LN Mountain dwarf Ranger 6 (Fey Wanderer) | HP 29/46 | AC 15 | Saves: Str +4, Dex +5, Con +1, Int +0, Wis +4, Cha +1 | Passive Perc/Insight 16 | Init +2 | DV60' | Spells 1/4, 2/2 | SwA 1/1, BS 1/1 | Insp 0/2 | Exh 0/6 | Madness 2

I wouldn't call the adventure so far hard so much as one that incentivizes running rather than fighting... and for that reason I'd rather not fast-forward to Blingdenstone. This ruin thing feels like a side quest so from previous experience we might actually be able to do something from start to finish here. In the gnomish city, I feel like we might be again running into something way past out pay grade.

Unless that is the point where we get lore-dumped and the bigger plot behind all these demonic incursions starts to become clear.

I'm back :)

I would echo what Precious and Hue already said so well. Not much to add. That being said, I am enjoying the game.

Ironically I'm usually different from everyone else in that I have more time during the summer because my other commitments are on pause for the summer months.

I'm good with whatever the group decides.

Well, we seem to be missing half our party. We haven't heard from them since June 18th.

I'm going to be away much of next week, so let's break until July 14th. If we haven't heard from Kalanzar or Alex by then, we'll need to make some decisions. But it seems like the rest of you are good to keep trudging through the dark. Things do change after Blingdenstone, though I haven't read much past that in the book. I'll need to do my homework soon. :)

(Also, I realized that half the time I'm mistyping it as Blindingstone. All these underdark names are hard!)

I needed a total break from all social media for a bit.

Now to read up on things.

Hello all! I'm back from a run of small camping trips, and ready to play again. Thought I'd take a roll call, and see what people's availability is like moving forward this summer. Sound off!
