UTC-7 here, but I have weird hours, so I tend to be up later on most days.

Question
I don't know how long do these take usually, but is it too soon into the adventure to cast Heal?
And do others have potions from their schools or something?
Corabee Cori |
The correct point in a battle to use an in-combat healing option is a very tricky tactical problem. There isn't a universally correct answer to that.
In-combat healing is limited use. Spell slots run out. Battle Medicine is by default once per character per day. Focus spells (like Lay on Hands) are the most renewable. There are some specific things that can make Battle Medicine available more often too.
After-combat healing is a lot less expensive. Treat Wounds can be used once per hour. With an upgrade feat at level 2 or 3 that makes it once every 10 minutes.
Ideally we wouldn't need to use any in-combat healing resources at all. But that isn't always possible - that's why we keep such things around.
In my estimation, this battle is pretty much over. Unless Bitty is actually in danger of dying, probably best to keep spell slots available for later.

I'll say it depends on the length of the adventure. Given that this is a Bounty, it is likely to be our only fight. Use every spell you have when it is an adventure this short.

Bitty: "MEDIC, HELP, I'M DYING!"
Also Bitty: "I GOT ZOOMIES, BYE!"
I was typing my action to heal, when I clicked preview, where's the gnome I was treating?
And I started laughing as I was retyping to protect Cath instead.
edit:
Also, since combat is done. May I act again?

Typical Gnome things, lol.

Yes. Order is only enforced during combat. At least as far as I know.

Bitty was stupefied! She made one good tactical decision: get to the healer. And then Bitty was very distracted by the fuzz in her brain. Besides, Bitty can be a bit impulsive, as you may have already noticed.
And yes, we're out of combat!

LOL. The 1d9 typo reminds me of this post from a different game discussion.

The Shisk was thinking about eating, not saying a word.
Oops, my bad.
I blame it on Bea playing tricks on Ashun.

Wow - 14 posts while I was asleep
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by that too the first day I woke up to a ton of new posts.

Here I was getting things done before heading to work, and BAM! Posts galore!

Sorry, I was in a bit of a hurry earlier.
Did I use the Heal correctly?
Also, how does downtime in PBP work? And me being Field Commissioned, if we get like, 100 exp, do I get 300 days of downtime instead of 200?
Bitty Blue |

Well, bounties have their own special rules. The pay is slightly better, so there is no downtime. The idea was to make it simpler for convention GMs running a 'Learn Pathfinder' game for newcomers to not have to deal with downtime.
My recommendation is not to do Field Commissioned unless you have a plan for character other than Earn Income. The Consumable the VCs give you is almost always worth more than the extra four days of day jobs. But if you're crafting your own items, then it might be worth it.
An average 4-hour scenario offers 8 days of downtime (12 for field-commissioned.) Basically, Field-commissioned PCs earn income at 1.5 times the rate of those trained in the schools. So yes, 100 XP would turn under normal circumstances into 200 days of earn income for most people, 300 for field-commissioned.

Ah, I guess the name "bounty" is kinda self-explanatory in this case huh... I thought it was used to define length/duration of a adventure. Sorry.
And I do plan on specializing in crafting. Seems interesting, and being able to distribute other magical items, like scrolls, runes, talismans, etc., is part of the "support" build I'm trying out. Not in it for the money.
I'm probably going for alchemist dedication at level 2.
Corabee Cori |
Since potions cost money because no one gets one from the VC, let's do medicine or healing spells, which we can renew next time.
From the character sheets, you are a point better at medicine than I am. So if you want, you can come tell me what that tin was and borrow my kit.
If you don't have your own.
Ashun |
I'm buying an extended healer's tools as soon as I have the spare money for it. And maybe some serene mutagens before I'm able to craft them.
Ashun |
I should've treated everyone there >:c
damn ghosts and their ability to be ghosty (or whatever these are)
Do I need to stride closer to attempt to disable it? I don't know how close I need to be. Specially considering Ashun is only seeing the spirit vortex (and a small portion of it even), not the hands, because of the walls.

Surprise!! :)

Ashun has Stabilize. It'll be fine. :P
However, it looks like I am not trained in anything useful for this fight. Untrained options only.
Ashun |
I don't doubt it, it's impossible to not be fine with these amazing party members I got <3
But with a 3 action heal I could deal damage to all of them (considering they are dead I guess)

Intimidation can be used untrained. You need to be trained for the other 2 skills.

Yup. Thanks.
One of the things I like the most about this game is that no one character can be fantastic at everything. I can 1-shot a spider - when my dice are hot. But I can't do much against a haunt. It makes the game interesting having to work around weak points of the character.

"Eeeeep!" Then Bitty pauses. "That'll teach me to metagame!"
GM Tiger |
Actually, to be fair, other than the Lvl 3 bounties. This is the only one with 2 combat encounters.
Cath Gerbaine |
I was wondering, did the intimidation not do anything? Guess swinging the sword is my next course of action.

That was fun
"Unless, of course, you'd like to come with me..."
I'm sorry lady, we just met, I'm not interested...

So...
How does transition to the next scenario work?
And applying chronicle data?

And reporting. I'm having problems with the Bounty I'm wanting to report. Plus I'm preparing the Chronicles manually.
What's the problem?
Ashun |
am beeg dumdum
what do now?
I got the email and the PDF, but I have no idea what to do with it. :D
Do I recover slots and HP too?
Dar Lek |
I can't find my RPGChronicles signup. It's not appearing in my list of games. Also RPGChronicles says I have 15 games but only showing 12.
@Ashun. You file the PDF with where ever you keep the details for your PCs. And yes, you have recovered all your slots and HP. All conditions etc acquired in one game are supposed to be cleared before the next one.
Cath Gerbaine |
I think that we recover mostly everything, from what I understand.
Corabee Cori |
Other than dying - or some permanent things like certain curses or petrification or something like that that becomes equivalent to death.
Or something like that. I would have to actually go look up the rules to be specific about it. But I don't think any of us have anything that drastic.
-----
As for the chronicles, I just need to keep that file somewhere. Somewhere public like Bitty has? Or do I just need to be able to show it to someone who asks?
Is there anything else that I need to do to get credit?
And if I am reading the chronicle correctly it says that I have a starting xp of 1 and a starting gold of 4. Should that be instead read as gained xp and gold? Or am I just reading that wrong? ... OK. Reading it for a 4th time, I think I am just reading it wrong.
So I just need to make note of the GP and xp addition on my character sheet, yes?

You can't die in a bounty - if your character hits Dying 4, he wakes up at the end with some money in his pocket.
Bounties give 1 XP and 4gp. 12 XP and you level up. At lvl 1, you can pretty much change anything about your character for free. So you can experiment with different builds until you're satisfied with it. Once you play your first game at lvl 2, then you need a boon to rebuild.
Your consumables don't get used up. So if you have a healing potion/scroll, you will still have it for the next bounty (well, it will get used up during the adventure, but it resets afterwards).

That's good to know.
I think I am still pretty happy with my build - though I am still debating between buckler style and dueling parry. But I am not seeing all that much difference between the two. It looks to me like I can still use the hand with my buckler, I just can't both use the hand for advanced things and use raise buckler at the same time. But dueling parry has pretty much the same restrictions. I can't both use the other hand for anything and use dueling parry.
Bitty Blue |
That's another level 1 repeatable Bounty(+1xp), a level 1-4 repeatable Quest(+1xp) followed by a 1-4 repeatable scenario(+4xp), and Dar Lek would be open for all of those - which would leave him at +15xp after all of that. So he'll need another +1 to get his xp to a multiple of 4.
Tiger, if you want to run an extra bounty to get everyone else to an even level of XP, Bitty can sit one out before rejoining everyone in the Pathfinder trials.
Barak Blue |
Or I can even bring in her brother, Barak, who has not been built yet, but he's also a sylph gnome with a dragon tail. He's a fighter who is going to be multiclassing with wyrmblessed sorcerer at Level 2. And yes, they are twins. Which is why there is such a remarkable family resemblance.
Apparently, I really like this part-cloud dragon family that I created from the Mwangi Expanse!

Ordinarily, I'd offer to GM the bounty that I wrote, but the freelance gods have started sending gigs my way, and I'm going to need to stop GMing for a while once the adventures that I am GMing for OutPost finish.
My bandwidth narrows considerably when I have a gig to write. But oh... it is so exciting to be writing again!
