Oh, right... Derp.
Please excuse me while I go write, "I'm not the only player in this game" a few hundred times.
Lania 'Shrike' Fordyce |
In case it wasn't clear, Audria's wanting to apologize to Shrike/Merula face to face. Perhaps a bit silly, but she doesn't feel like it would be a proper apology with the mask between them. She can't look Merula in the eyes with it on, at least that's how she feels, and she doesn't feel it would be sincere.
Oh, I see. It wasn't clear to me before that Audria wanted to talk to Merula and not Shrike, since she's asked to talk to Shrike in private before. Now it's clear, so no worries. She'll have a chance soon enough.
If Shrike wants the opportunity to roleplay Merula's "first" meeting with the rest of the folks, however brief, I'd leave that decision to her.
I'll do a couple of lines of description just so people know what she looks like, and they can of course interact with the pre-castle etiquette lessons as much or as little as they wish in spoilers, but no need to delay the main story for any of that, I think. Onward!

Wife and son are cleared of covid and flu as of Thursday. The flu struck me down Thursday night/Friday morning. It hit me harder than it hit my son (I wouldn't be surprised if I had a touch of the rona too courtesy of my wife) but I tested negative for both as of 5 am this morning. I basically got his week's worth of sickness crammed into a few days.
Give me some time to catch up, and I should be able to get something posted today.
Audria |
Glad to hear everyone seems to be doing better now.
Unfortunately, seems like my sister caught a bug. Had to run get her some stuff this morning.

Hey no judgement here. The longer it takes you the more time I have to get that drawing of Audria done that I told you I wanted to do. (Started on it and realized that I should probably get back in the saddle with some tools I'm used to using instead of a stylus on a touchscreen, which feels very unnatural.)
Audria |
Nope, this is perfect. :D
Working on the drawing. Just needed to take a break for a bit.

Next up is inks, and I'm going to quit while I'm a head here. I'm getting tired and my eyes aren't up to focusing on small details. Posting here as both proof that I am working on it, and in the hopes that y'all will pressure me into finishing rather than letting it just languish around only partly done.
Abella Tribastarion |
Abella looks older than her actual age: up to ten years older depending on the lighting, attitude, clothing, etc…. She’s 6’2” and very thin for her height. So like…low to mid 100s (in lbs)?
Abella’s full name is technically just Abella Tribastarion, but if asked, she will give a different middle name every time based on her mood.
Audria |

Abella's 16 years old, but can appear younger, thanks to her freckles and small stature. She's five feet tall and weighs around 120 lbs. She's petite, but she's got muscle on her.
As the daughter of a prostitute who didn't care much for her and an unknown man, she has no surname. I suppose the church could have given her one, but for most of her life she's just been Audria. I never did figure out Eliana's surname, but she does have one. I think I mentioned somewhere that her parents were killed and she was left on the street when Lamm snapped her up. I could see her insisting Audria share it since the two of them are like sisters.
On an unrelated note, I made candied bacon. I also learned that it is very easy to overcook candied bacon and that leaving it to cool too long on the rack will result in you having candied bacon bits rather than candied bacon strips. It turned out pretty good though. If anyone's interested:
Guesstimate recipe because the only thing I actually measured was the sugar. I didn't count the strips, but it was about 2/3 of a 24 oz pack of regular sliced bacon.
12 -14 strips of bacon
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cane syrup
OR
3/4 cup brown sugar (I didn't have any so I made some using the two above ingredients.)
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp sweet BBQ seasoning
1/2 tbsp hotsauce
1/2 tbsp red pepper flake
1 tsp cayenne
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp fresh crack black pepper
Preheat oven to 375 F
Mix the sugar, honey, and spices until you have a something that looks like wet sand with red pepper flakes in it.
Lay out your bacon on a rack in a foil-lined pan. Try to keep it from overlapping.
Sprinkle the sugar-spice mixture over the bacon, try to get even coverage.
Put in the oven for 20-30 min. depending on level of preferred doneness of the bacon. Pull when you think it'll be just about ready in a few minutes. Bacon will continue to cook for a bit.
Let cool for a few minutes then get the bacon off the rack. It'll stick if you leave it too long. If it does, you can try to loosen it by lifting the rack and poking your finger through the bottom of the rack to pop the bacon loose. If you have to do this with crispy bacon, you're going to get bacon bits.
Enjoy. Let me know if you try this.
EDIT: Pinvendor, you are an evil, evil man. I am loving this. I think I'll wait for Dal to respond before posting Audria's and Talanaliel's reactions to this.
Audria |
Nope, don't think I will.
In all seriousness, if you need me to edit it, it'll just add a few years since she was under's thumb Lamm. I think I was realistically pushing it with having her fourteen and her not having been forced into sex work.
Audria |
Lol, you used the wrong name silly.
...
I'm gonna go to bed before I say or do anything else dumb.
Audria |
I think I'm going to leave this one here. I'm happy with it all things considered.
Lania 'Shrike' Fordyce |
Lania's age, height and weight are in her profile. She's 25, almost 26 (end of Desnus, the current month.) Half-elves age slower than humans, though, and 15 years on a human is equivalent to 20 years for them. So, I figure that as Merula she looks younger than her actual age, maybe in her late teens or early 20s.
Her height and weight were generated randomly according to the table for determining them by race, but I've decided to bump her weight up a bit to account for an athletic build with enough muscle to have 14 Strength.
Dalmano "Dal" Imperiosus |
Dal is 32.
I height and weight were generated with the table. Funny enough, I actually had the thought to drop his weight a bit to account for a leaner* build.
*And by that I mean living with food insecurity for most of his life.
Audria |
On some level, I think I've always planned on Audria on having a bit of a mischievous sense of humor, but it's only in the past few weeks that's really solidified. One of the things I've started doing is not listing much about my characters' personality and letting it come out more in the game.
Lania 'Shrike' Fordyce |
"I meant that maintaining such a large castle on top of the top of the city for only a handful of the elite while so many of those who work to keep the blood pumping throughout Korvosa elicits certain negative emotions from me."
Is there a word or phrase missing here? Between "while" and "so" or between "who work to keep the blood pumping throughout Korvosa" and "elicits" maybe? The general emotion comes through still, just wanting to know the specifics.
Audria |
Same. Seems that there's a missing word or three.
Spirit of Pinvendor |
"I meant that maintaining such a large castle on top of the top of the city for only a handful of the elite [potential comma or parenthesis] while so many of those who work to keep the blood pumping throughout Korvosa [missing phrase (e.g. starve slowly in their own homes] [potential comma or parenthesis] elicits certain negative emotions from me."
I believe this sentence is meant to be a "this happens instead of that" structure, but the "that" wasn't completed. Commas or parentheses could have been used to separate the clauses, but that would merely have been a literary device to draw emphasis if desired.
Forgive my red pen-ing of your post, Dal.
Also, I'm looking to get more done today, but work has just been non-stop. Thank you for the roleplay. I am enjoying it.
Audria |
Kinda figured it was something like that, which is one of the reasons that Audria's mood fell after he said that.
Audria |
No, I meant Merula. I suppose it might make more sense for it to be Tally's voice, but I figured that the empathic link they shared wouldn't allow for communication like that. Merula told her to stop beating herself up, so it made sense for it to be her voice saying that when she started doing it so soon after that interaction.

This was definitely me laying the groundwork for Merula trying to slowly and gently redirect some of Audria's self-flagellation/low self-esteem into healthier mental habits, so I'm glad you're running with it, Audria.

Pretty much this. And thanks!
It's an internal thing. The voices in her head, if that didn't make her sound crazy, sometimes sound like people she knows. I should probably have done more of it before now, but generally whenever there's something going on and Audria needs to overcome something internal, the motive thought that gets her past that obstacle takes on the voice of someone she knows and she knows cares for her. I've done it before when something Bartholomew taught her helped her past something. It also happens when things get really bad, such as her self-doubt wins out. That has taken the form of Lamm's voice up until now.
(I really need to throw in a new voice in there, otherwise some things later on might not make sense.)
I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth. This is strictly in Audria's head, and I'm sorry if the formatting I used to try indicating that she was hearing this thought in Merula's voice confused things. That was certainly not my intent.
And, no, she didn't say "Stop beating yourself up," but I was paraphrasing and I've been on the receiving end of enough of those talks to know what's being said even if the actual words aren't.
Abella Tribastarion |
Honestly I would just not use bolding.
”I use bolding when it is something communicated to other people out loud.”
<“I use bolding embedded in less than greater than signs for mentally communicated dialogue (such as telepathic bond).”>
Italics for internal monologue
“And quotations without bolding for quoting people in your own head or imagined voices”
Audria |
Probably the best solution, to be honest.
Dalmano "Dal" Imperiosus |
Forgive my red pen-ing of your post, Dal.
Well, that's what I get for trying to slip a post in while between meetings.
What I intended to post was much closer to what you came up.
You can follow along with my quick drafting process and tell which one I copied over by mistake.
Abella Tribastarion |
Idk if any of you watched it, but the show Dead Ringers on amazon gives a very good picture of what Abella and Cainabeth would be like. Abella is like Beverly’s knowledge combined with Elliot’s amorality and Cainabeth is like Elliot’s social graces but on someone with more of a sense of right and wrong
If you have the stomach for something more intense on all counts, it’s quite worth the watch.
Lania 'Shrike' Fordyce |
I've heard good reviews of that series.
Does Abella want a bird nickname? She's smart and acquisitive, so I would have said Magpie, but I think you gave that to someone else already. Crow, Rook and Raven would all fit her personality, but physically being pale, thin and tall suggests something like Egret, Swan or (as Lania thought earlier because of her orange-accented clothes) Gannet.
Audria |
Work does have a habit of doing that. :P
So we have Shrike/Dove (Lania/Merula), Canary (Audria), and Magpie (Lina, I think?) We're missing one for Dal, Pip, and Abella.
Audria |
Ah, thanks! I couldn't remember exactly.
So we need one for Dal and one for Abella.
Abella seems like a rook. Not only the bird, but the chess piece.
Dal, well, depending on how he reacts to Jessica's advances, it could be flamingo.
Dalmano "Dal" Imperiosus |
Give me just a little bit.
Friday, my CFO decided that it was time to do those annual reviews he's been putting on for 3 months. I had to knock out my teams reviews and spend yesterday sitting with each team member and HR to go over them.
Audria |
Oh fun...
