With this part of the main story concluded, welcome to level 3!

And now, group decision time: GM Pinvendor came up with this event at the castle as an elegant way to get the group in proximity to the queen, but it's not part of the AP.

The choices are:
1. I condense Eodred's Remembrance into a descriptive post and we move on with the AP thread (although at this point it's still a little sandbox-y, but I have some ideas for hooks).
2. We play out the event and I'll come up with some social encounters to introduce a few AP NPCs.

Either way, there will be a dedicated space for Audria and Eliana's meeting. :)

I'm fine either way. I'd love to go with #2, but I also know that there's been some frustration with how slowly we've been moving through the AP. Really, you've already guaranteed the one thing that I really want to do while we're here, so like I said, I'm fine either way.

I do have a couple of questions.
1. Do we hit Level 3 while in Castle Korvosa? Is it before the gala/ball/remembrance thing?

I had this scene that I wanted to do for when we did hit level because I was planning on taking Improved Familiar and giving Talanaliel the Fey-Touched Template. I don't remember if I mentioned this or not, but the idea I had for Talanaliel is that she's a celestial that got stripped of most of her power, and she's slowly regaining it as time goes on. This would just be the first step. I figured that suddenly having someone "new" show up in the castle would cause a bit of a commotion, at least until Audria and Talanaliel could prove that yes, the strange naked girl that showed up in Audria's room is Talanaliel.

I also wanted to give Audria a nightmare to tie into the castle staff having them and start working in how another NPC is connected to Audria, but I think I know of a way to work all of that together. Should be a fun writing challenge. :)

2. If we do go with option #1, could you work in Dal getting teased by Jessica into the description? You have two of them to choose from, after all. :3

In case that last bit is me being trying too hard to be clever:

There's the PC, Dalmano Imperiosus, aka Dal.
There's the NPC that I came up with way back at the start of this, Dalinius Equinius Asinus, who could also be nicknamed Dal and whom I give full consent to be made a fool of since he is supposed to he an ass. :P

So, two Dals, one of whom I would love to see the party meet one day. :D

Another question, because I'm a rotten liar, apparently:

I don't think I ever got an explicit okay on Audria's hair spontaneously growing when she's really stressed, upset, or embarrassed. I know that Pinvendor didn't want to deal with the mechanical implications of it happening in combat, which is why Jessica has magic items to harvest it, and Elfriede seemed to like the idea, but wasn't sure about allowing it. Obviously, I'd like to keep it around, but I understand if you don't want to deal with it. I would just like to know if you're okay with it or not.

If you do keep it around, keep in mind it's a condition that affects Eliana too, so have fun with it. :)

EDIT: Because I apparently cannot help myself.

Sorry if I've asked this before, but is it okay if I give Talanaliel the Fey-Touched template?

Also, if we do go with Option #2, would you be okay with a variant of the glam-up scene Pin and I discussed? I can write it up, just need some guidelines on what's cool and what's not.

EDIT #2: Just thought of this, last one, I hope!

If you're okay with doing that scene, could we get Jessica to rope in Merula and Abella? I couldn't just do it as one post, but I think it'd be fun to have them along for the ride. :)

- Is it okay to give Talanaliel the Fey-Touched archetype? Yes, as long as she stays a thrush in encounters.
- Level up while at the castle? Yes, but we can wait with Talanaliel's upgrade for another day, if that works for you. Or we can go with "commotion". :)
- Dalssica? I'll try!
- Audria and Eliana's hair spontaneously growing when they are stressed/upset/embarrassed? Yes, and fine with the magical scissors.
- Glam-up scene? Yes, just keep in mind that it is supposed to be a solemn occasion. I feel like there should be a foil to Jessica in that scene so that Audria's look ends up being appropriate for a remembrance. Perhaps something like this with a hat? We can do the glam-up scene in spoilers if we go with option #1.

And yes, you all ascend to Level 3 while in the castle. :)

Hurray for level 3! I'll work on levelup changes soon. I also should probably put a better profile together for Merula with what she'd actually be carrying at this time, etc.

As far as the choice between playing out Edodred's Remembrance vs. condensing to a description and moving on, I slightly favor condensing, just because I think three out of five of us wouldn't be that into just meeting AP NPCs without having a more direct problem to solve or goal to work toward. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course, guys.

But maybe we could split the difference a bit, and while we don't RP out every aspect of the event, there could be one single part of it that takes place as an RP scene/social encounter before we move on? Like, all guests are allowed to mingle and hors d'oeuvres are served right before or right after whatever official ceremony is planned in honor of the late king, or something. (As it's a fairly solemn occasion, it seems like there might not be music and dancing or a full sit-down banquet at any point during the event, but those settings would work too.)

If I had a question it would be: are we going to have any downtime soon in which we can make some purchases, or in Lania's case, keep up with her social identity's job(s)? The wording of Renown, the vigilante social talent I have been planning to take at level 3, seems to require actively spreading rumors in the social identity for a week. Even if we waived that part because this is the community in which her deeds took place, and rumors are already being spread without her input, if she is going to maintain the social identity of the dancer/performer Merula long-term, it would make sense that she has to actually continue performing in shows and building a reputation.

Thanks! Even if she were in her humanoid form, she wouldn't fight. She doesn't know how. (Though, just saying, if you really wanted to ratchet up the tension for Audria, you could have someone capture her.)

Oh, there'll probably be a commotion either way, it's just a matter of who else gets involved. :D

I got this picture in my head of Audria and Talanaliel trying to explain what happened and both Brother Theolan and Sabina looking on with straight up "WTF" faces while the queen isn't sure if she's amused or annoyed.

That's probably better than what I had in mind. I love the colors, but I'm not sure if that's Audria's style.

Pinvendor had mentioned the royal tailor and Eliana helping out. I thought it'd be fun to get Merula and Abella involved so it's not just the Audria show. I could imagine the scene going something like this.

Jessica: "Okay, you two. You know Audria, right? I bet she didn't pack anything but her robes. I want you're help getting her into something fit for a royal funeral, or whatever. Do you accept this mission."

Except in more, you know, Jessica L'morie terms.

Up to Abella and Audria if they'd be interested.

Woo! I'm guessing that technically happens overnight, since we're supposed to be spending the night and having the thing tomorrow.

As for the concerns Merula mentions...

- I'm okay with the visit just getting slimmed down to a single post. If we want, we can have the other stuff I mentioned happen in spoilers since that's unlikely to affect the outcome of the even itself. I'm even okay with just cutting it if that helps keep things moving. What is that phrase about writers and killing your darlings?

- I'm also okay with Merula/Lania shenanigans and down time. Even if we can't be involved, I can come up with something for Audria and I'd be more than happy to do things on the side with Abella, Dal, Pip, or any combination of the three.

- That said, I know I'd love for Audria to get to know Merula better after learning what she does know about her alter-ego.

By the way, how are we handling HP? Pinvendor was doing max per level. Are we still doing that or something else?

Good question!

With 5 PCs, combat encounters will skew on the easier side unless I tweak them, so max HP per level seems unnecessary.

In the vast majority of my games we do half HD + 1 on level up, so let's do that here as well.

For example, for Audria that would be 6 HP before any CON bonuses.

We won't worry too much about where she learned to pick locks overnight. (Perhaps Jessica could teach her.) However, she's still going to be pretty bad at the other classic part of a rogue's role, which is spotting traps. Since she's not actually a rogue, she doesn't get a trapfinding bonus, and since vigilantes are extremely multiple-ability-dependent, she doesn't have good Wisdom. People with good Perception, please stay wary, for all our sakes. :)

Hmm, Jessica would probably know how to pick locks and disable simple traps. I'm torn between having the reason she knows being something scandalous or something petty, possibly both?

I was thinking about a dip into bard to help push some skills up, but I didn't want to seem like I was stepping on anyone's toes, especially Pip's. I was thinking of having CLW and Feather Fall as her two first level spells there.

It's just a thought and I don't think it'd hurt her being the frontliner. It does fit with the image I had of her being a very agile fighter.

I actually considered taking Find Traps as one of my level 2 spells but didn't because it would basically be a 3 minute bandage.

As far as some CLW/CMW goes, with scribe scroll, if we have some down time, I could make us some helpful scrolls with Abella's aid.

Don't forget that we already have a full wand of cure light wounds. We don't need to worry about out-of-combat healing for quite some time. In-combat could be another story.

I'd just say that it never hurts to have more healing, but to be honest, most of Audria's healing is going to be Lay On Hands. I'd only ever get 2 spells per day from the bard level, 3 if I decided to take another level, but I don't think I would.

I could go for something else. I think one of the spells dealing with instruments would be up her alley.

Thanks! Like I said though, I don't want to step on Pip's toes, so depending on what he has planned, I may not even do it.

Speaking of fun, I just realized that in creating Jessica, I gave both Audria and Eliana a friend that knows all of their buttons and is willing to push them. I really hope you and Abella will join in. I think it'll be a blast.

Plus, I'd like to not have the only PC blushing in this scene. :P

Sorry for the delay, there ended up being quite a few threads I wanted to respond to.

If it's okay, I've decided that the accessories Merula bought would be mechanically like these fashionable accessories for 20 gp that you can add to an entertainer's outfit for a small mechanical bonus that may help her mingle (and may offset not being in courtier's clothes and not having an additional 50 gp in jewelry if she has to try to influence a noble.) In addition to the aforementioned silk wrap, bronze combs for a braided hairstyle, gloves, and fine slippers, because the post about Queen Ileosa's sitting room mentioned a huge display of fans, I'd like it to include a brocaded fan as well. The queen is clearly a fan... fan. That means fans are probably 'in' right now.

I think most of the ongoing scenes can be closed. The reveal of Talanaliel's human form is a rather big deal, but perhaps that can be covered in conversation the day after the remembrance. I'll write a bit more on the Audria-Eliana reunion, as that is also a big deal - but that is optional for everyone else.

Agreed, which I know is ironic coming from me. I've got things mostly wrapped up, though. The only two scenes that are still open as far as I can tell are the one from the night before and the one where Audria and Eliana are reuniting. The one from the night before could end right where it is now, though.

Thank you for not losing your patience with me, Hrothdane. I went overboard, and I know it. I'll do my best to reign myself in.

EDIT: I know Dal and Merula/Shrike/Lania are interested in helping get the kids home, but what about Abella and Pip? There's that think Sabina Merrin asked Dal to check up on, and I'd like for all of us to be there for that. My thinking was that Audria was going to ask Dal if he wanted to help see the kids safely home and that would give him the opportunity to get us roped up in that errand.
