I could be completely wrong here but I am starting to suspect that a possible plot line of the scenario is to kill the PCs so that they can be brought back to life as we are in the fey wild. Granted this is not something that I would bank on as a player or a character but the dialogue and the NPC tactics do seem to lean in that direction.
Trying to make yourself feel better?
Alecto |
No, he's not trying. He’s absolutely satisfied with everything and he likes it. The "spit on the party" style is his native element. He seems to like being an a!$&!. I had the dubious pleasure of playing a whole module with him... I hoped that this experience would not happen again, but alas. Well, s%*~ happens.

This scenario is a tough one, but there's also some things that are putting you at a disadvantage. 1 you guys are just barely in the upper tier. There is a four player adjustments, but you're still getting tough enemies. You guys are also lacking a martial character. That makes a difference, especially at low levels.
To be fair to Relgar, he has actually done some solid damage in this scenario and has done some other very helpful things. That obscuring mist in the archer fight was a very good move. And he might not be out of this fight for very long; depending on how he plays his cards.
This fight is very winnable. Note that the enemy that Adowyn injured did NOT have DR/cold iron, unlike most of the enemies you've encountered so far.
*Adowyn |
Yep the curse of the 'Last Chance' tables particularly when you're just high enough in the 'math' to get everyone (well almost everyone) killed. Yay.
Too bad the only thing the PCs will remember is Relgar leaving them to die.
Alecto |
Players are responsible for their characters’ actions. “That’s just what my character would do” is not a defense for behaving like a jerk.
.
I'll just leave it here and leave this discussion for myself. I don't think that pathfindin’ should be easy. Moreover, now we are playing without this guy at the table - it is worth the increased risk .)*Adowyn |
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to everyone! I've asked the GM to bot Adowyn as necessary to keep the game moving because I'll have spotty availability the next week.
GM Badblood |
Happy Christmas! Hope everyone is staying safe. I'm in Minnesota where we've been in the middle of a massive snowstorm, but I've heard its bad in other parts of the US as well.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

@GM Badblood - Have a look at the entry for Riding Dog in the CRB and you might change your position on falling off your mount if it is medium sized or smaller. It is not relevant for this game but worth a read anyways. :)
GM Badblood |
Relgar, you think your rule lawyering is soooo clever, but what you forgot to realize is that Gregor is not a riding dog. Unless you can cite some text saying that they share this same ability with theriding dog, then I think the general mounted combat rules should apply.
Relgar |
My point is that they are both medium sized mounts and therefore the rider does not have that far to fall and should not take any falling damage. I can understand how this might not be viewed as a strictly RAW position the way the rules are parsed together. :)
GM Badblood |
I'm actually not a fan of text within an item's description changing general rules of the game. And honestly it doesn't even matter in this case because Relgar had to actions needed to dismount normally, drop prone and take the full defense action.
Kind of a funny thing actually is that I've had GMs on more than one occasion not allow me to bring my cavalier's horse into a dungeon; because the text in the entry for donkey/mule! has this little chestnut:
Unlike a horse, a donkey or mule is willing (though not eager) to enter dungeons and other strange or threatening places. Donkeys and mules have the same statistics as ponies
Another example are potion sponges in the Adventure's Armory. There was no rule saying you couldn't drink a potion underwater; but then wham, along comes this item and now its something you can't do.
Relgar |
Yes I see your point and I agree with it. This principle is far more important than allowing a character to avoid a single d6 of damage. :)
GM Badblood |
I should have your chronicles ready for you tommorrow. I think a few of you need to roll day job checks as well.
This was a tough scenario. Some of it was from the fact that you were playing up with a four player adjustment; but I'm sure it didn't help that you happened to face rangers with gnomes as their primary favored enemy!
The item mutation will be on your chronicles. Another thing that most of you may notice is that you won't be getting the full amount of gp for this adventure. You lose out on a little gold because you opted out of the wager at the beginning of the scenario. Since Adowyn was the only one to take them up on it, Shadow Dragon is the only one getting the full gold.
GM Badblood |
Another thing is that the boon is based on the actual season *you* the player are experiencing. So for example, during this scenario you'd get to apply either the fall or the winter one (because we went kind of long on this one).

I knew I should have bet! lol. I just didn't want to add a tanglefoot bag's weight to my encumbrance. I enjoyed that last fight, even though(or perhaps because) I feared for Jack's life.

Encumbrance?!?! It weighs 4 lbs.! Bah! A Paladin would be able to carry it...

:P
Bah! A paladin would probably consider it a devious trick item and toss it to the side to challenge the monster to a fist/claw fight. Or just try to demand that they comply.

Not all paladins are created equal. It really depends on their belief system and their deity's areas of interest. A paladin of Torag might find a tanglefoot bag to be a perfectly acceptable tool of war but a paladin of Sarenrae or Iomedae might not. This is the grey area where discussion with your GM is helpful. :)

This is an ongoing feud between Adowyn's handler and Bahram. :)

Because Bahram was mean to and slandered the honorable Paladin who was only trying to help Bahram... :( Meanie.
GM Badblood |
It was a tough fight; but one advantage that you had is that the Wild Hunt doesn't cooperate with each other at all (for example they don't grant each other flanking). And the four player adjustment is that they have a 20% chance to attack each other every ground. This also means that as devastating as Clortho's pan pipes are; he doesn't care about hitting his allies with it. Unfortunately this didn't help the party too much because they happened to roll pretty well.
Just so that you understand the background of this story; the big bag with their voices was their comradery, which was stolen from them.
I feel bad about Alecto using that collar because I know exactly what module that comes out of and also because I don't think you needed to use it to win this fight. But it did help, as did Jilla's elixir of fire breathing.
Not sure why people think a paladin can't use a tanglefoot bag, but people have strange ideas about paladins. Personally, I don't think it's any worse than hitting somebody with a sword and paladins do that all the time.
Sorry about the delay, but I'm having trouble getting to the chronicle sheets tonight. I have some of them done and should have them ready soon.
Bahram al-Urgug "Jack" |
A paladin can use a tanglefoot bag just fine. Adowyn's handler and I have a long running 'fued' between a paladin of his and Bahram. I was just poking fun at him.
That 20% chance of friendly fire was crucial time or two.
Relgar |
It all depends on the paladin and their specific code of conduct. Inner Sea Gods have guidelines for codes for specific deities so it will vary. There is nothing evil about using a tanglefoot bag but it can certainly be considered to be dirty fighting and some paladins, cavaliers and samurai may refuse to use such underhanded methods. I see it more as a self-imposed role playing restriction than a strict prohibition for the class in general.
In general paladins are expected to strive for the highest moral standards possible as they see it and are also expected to fall from time to time as the standards are set so high.
Of course in PFS a paladin will only fall if they do something completely outrageous but in a home game a paladin's struggle to live up to his own code of conduct is a worthy goal in itself.

Holmes DJ: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Jilla DJ: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
I rolled the day job checks for Jilla and Holmes, and I don't think you're getting better luck than those rolls.
Here is the link to the chronicle sheets! I will be reporting it soon!

Looks good Badblood. I had to read the Boons a couple of times, though. I almost convinced myself that I got a growling bag as one of my boons, instead of being able to purchase it. Thanks for running!

Thanks for running!

A memorable session--thanks!

Wow, we should have had the GM roll all our rolls. It would have been a much faster adventure. :)
Thanks for running. It is appreciated. :)
