and I'm assuming the bleed happens on the monster turn rather than mine? Also hoping that super secret roll wasn't a save that Rocko just tanked. May need to beg Yoltzin for a reroll if allowed.
You are correct, bleed happens on its turn next round.
I don't think we should get into rerolls of things we don't know happened. If it's not obvious someone might need two tries at the time, Yoltzin probably wouldn't pass that luck to them.wait, I just noticed there's an oil of magic weapon on the item list. Did we ever decide who's carrying it?
You are correct.
1d5 ⇒ 4
1 = Djack
2 = Quince
3 = Rocko
4 = Spizz Looks like Spizz has it.
5 = Yoltzin
Spizzbot |
Spizz gets a sudden look of memory on his face, and digs around in a pouch for a second.
"Friend Djack! Looky what I found!" The Kobold runs over to Djack and tosses him the oil of Magic Weapon.
Djack can apply it as a move action and his blade will +1 for the next 10 attacks (houserule; normally it would be 1 minutes time, but I prefer the PC get the full 10 6-second rounds worth of attacks for oil).
Djack Nymball |
You think it will help?
Djack applies the vial...
Keep your flying zits to yourself, Squidly!
Djack tries to bring the creature low with another stab. His now-gleaming blade seeking purchase.
atk, rapier, flank: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 23
dmg, rapier, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (2, 4) + 1 = 12
rando1000 |
Sure enough, Djack's weapon pierces easier and deeper than before the oil was applied. So deep, in fact, that it seems to pierce the creature's nervous system in a way that causes it to drop to the ground, apparently dead.
Good call Kevin/Rocko
Yoltzin may still act if she chooses. The nasty has one more surprise before it croaks.
rando1000 |
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
At that distance, Yoltzin just notices the creature drop; there's nothing particularly perceptible about what's about to happen. If you want you can do another quick channel, or move to approach, or ? but that's up to you.
Yoltzin |
Sighing as the threat seems dealt with, she holds out her pendent to give out another burst of healing light, to sooth wounds before she makes her approach.
Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
rando1000 |
That's enough to bring Quince back to consciousness and the knight you all rescued is now feeling well enough to sit up. Just as that happens though...
The "little ones" nesting just under the flesh of the creature, sensing the death of their "mother," burst outward at the party.
Reflex Save DC 16 for everyone except Yoltzin (too far away) and Quince.
Djack Nymball |
Reflex, YIKES!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Djack gets a sense of danger that raises his hackles... keeping good eye on the creature, he is able to leap out of the way when the nasty critters are airborne.
Kevin Boyer 646 |
Rocko belts out a string of gnollish profanities before doing his best to calm down and assess the situation.
He's pulled of huge nasty ticks before, so hopefully do-boiling (or whatever) will be similar. He starts trying to squeeze the first one that latched on to try to remove it.
Rocko will begin making a heal check. Someone else might have a better idea, but Rocko isn't one for wasting time on something like this. I'll assume the -2 is still in effect.
heal check (if allowed): 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 2 = 12
rando1000 |
Once Rocko and Spizz have been de-infested, Quince stands, still shaky from his brush with death.
"Thanks, Yoltzin. Could use a bit more healing when you get round to it."
The knight stands as well. His armor is tattered and bloody, his tunic destroyed. The party notes his young age, probably near Djack's own.
"I thank you to, elf-maid. And all of you. I am in your debt for coming to my rescue. I am Sir Valeto, of the order of Santravera, under service of The Marques Leonus." The man fights back a tear before continuing.
"That unfortunate soul" he says, pointing at an immobile body further into the room, "is my squire, the archer Gonzalo. He died nobly."
Djack Nymball |
Djack nods and moves to check on Gonzalo's body.
Hoping it doesn't reanimate without those nasty eyeballs... perhaps it was just something to do.
In fact, looking at the young knight was like looking upon his own death.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
rando1000 |
Gonzalo is definitely dead. He's got five of the feeders on him that Djack kills without trouble or hesitation.
Djack notes with interest and a touch of awe that the young man is wearing a luminous mithral chain shirt.
"That" Sir Valeto notes "was a gift from my family to my squire. It falls now back to me, and I gift it to you, Djack, in appreciation for charging in to save me despite the danger to yourself."
"And if you would, please recover is purse, for it contains my spending gold . Gonzalo's bow you may also have, or it can be buried with him."
The mail is a +1 Mithral Chain shirt. It fits Djack almost perfectly.
Yoltzin |
I'm not acrusly sure how injured you guys all are at this point, but,
"What is a maid?" She asks in confusion, before raising her pendent up again.
channel: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
rando1000 |
Sir Valeto looks up hopefully hearing Rocko's words. "The Preacher survives! That is good news. We were following him and one other out when we were set upon by this..." The knight gestures..."abomination. The Preacher said these things come straight from the Planes of Chaos, and I believe him, from what I've seen."
"In any case, if The Preacher survived to warn the Keep, then my duty is clear. I must not run, but must assist you in any way possible, even at the cost of my own life. That is," the young man pauses, "assuming that you are here for the same reason as I, to rid this place of its corruption."
rando1000 |
At this point, Sir Valeto hears Yoltzin's question.
"Maid, in the sense that I used it, merely means that you are a woman. If the term gives you offense, I beg pardon. I see now that you are a holy woman among your people. I am regrettably unacquainted with your kind save what I heard in stories as a child."
Yoltzin |
She tilts her head, the golden earrings clinking at the movement. "I do not know why it would cause me offense. It is not a human word I've learned. Still," Giving him a small smile, "I hope that I'm able to uphold your childhood stories in some way."
Djack Nymball |
Djack seems affected by the young knight's words. His eyes moistening, to almost tears.
He kneels beside the knight, I am honored and shall endeavor to prove myself worthy of such a gift until my dying breath. I only wish our meeting could have been under better circumstances.
But perhaps as my grandmother would say, This is exactly where we are meant to be.
Djack takes a moment to respectfully acquire and don the silvery chain shirt. As be turns back, he wipes his face indicating there perhaps were tears, after all.
Perhaps you have done enough, my good man. There are resolute steeds just a little ways outside. Do you need to warn others?
rando1000 |
Sir Valeto pauses to consider Djack's words.
"Perhaps you are right. While The Preacher rides north with all haste to the Keep, I can ride the countryside, and perhaps bring down a few of those man-beasts they've created in the process."
"In that case, I shall accompany you into the next room yonder," the young knight points to the door on map north.
"A few of the knights tried to go that way, but since they did not return, I sense they too are probably...still, I must know."
"And after that, I shall depart an see the sky again, which I had doubted ever to see again."
Yoltzin |
The elf nods. Yet before she moves onward after Rocko, she pauses and runs a hand over the strange armband. It was a mystery to her yet still just how this artifact came to her. She could only hope that she would be able to use it well.
rando1000 |
Rocko opens the door. Immediately, though perhaps unsurprisingly at this point, he catches sight of a horror. The room itself appears to be a dead-end. On the floor are several knights, though whether any are alive at this point, he cannot tell.
And off to the right, about the mass of a man but definitely not in the shape of one, a mound of black slime directs its attention to the door, eyes and mouths and even stranger things forming in its heaving bulk.
Roll for Initiative.
For time purposes, let's assume Rocko relays at least that something hostile looking is in the room.
Yoltzin |
Hearing the description of the creature before them, the elf tenses as she raises her bow. Something about it seemed familiar to one of her lessons...
Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
oop, initiative too
Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Whell damn.
rando1000 |
Hearing the description of the creature before them, the elf tenses as she raises her bow. Something about it seemed familiar to one of her lessons...
Dungeoneering 20
I'm going to apply your Knowledge/Planes bonus to this as, while it is technically an aberration, it is not of this plane.
Yoltzin knows from ancient legends that this creature is known as a Queliggoth. It's defenses are hardy (AC 19) and people tend to lose their senses when fighting them. It's definitely not supposed to be here. It's from The Decay, the same demiplane that infected the humanoids you fought recently.
rando1000 |
Queliggoth Initiative:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Yoltzin and Djack react so startlingly quickly that Rocko is a bit stunned and moves out of the way to let them do what they need to.
Combat Order:
Yoltzin, Djack, Creature, Rocko, Quince, Spizz, Sir Valeto
Yoltzin |
Pulling upon the planes, Yoltzin conjured a scripture of solidity and purpose. Small and composed largely of clay and dirt clumps, she knew that an Esrth elemental would be a reasonable choice. It attacked from behind, swinging wide and powerful at the creature.
Slam, PA, Earth Mastery: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Djack Nymball |
Sensing his blade is still infused with magic, Djack intends to capitalize on that fact and charges the creature.
Djack be nimble...
atk, rapier, flank, charge vs flat-footed: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 + 2 = 17
dmg, rapier, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (1, 3) + 1 = 15
rando1000 |
Yoltzin's elemental slams into the creature like a workman hammering posts into the ground. The creature bends a little when it is hit, but a portion of it splashes out onto the ground and becomes inert; presumably the equivalent of "damage" for this chaotic planar beast.
Likewise, Djack's blade strikes true, hitting the beast center-mass. Unfortunately, it's body doesn't seem to have distinct parts, so the damage is not as much as might have been in a living target.
Creature will attack shortly.
rando1000 |
The oozy form lashes out at both of its opponents with quickly manifested appendages.
VS Elemental:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 HIT
1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Grab attempt vs. CMD:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
VS Djack:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 MISS
1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
As the creature does this, it begins muttering in some unknown language, and the sound of the words strikes everyone as unnatural.
Need a DC 15 Will Save from everyone.
Yoltzin |
Grapple succeeds, Elemental is at 1HP. Buf, I'd rather the elemtal take damage than Djack!
Will=Elemental: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Will=Yoltzin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
rando1000 |
Yoltzin is unaffected.
Djack is affected by Confusion for the next 1d2 ⇒ 2 round(s).
Next round, Djack will "Attack the nearest creature" (which happens to be the blob creature anyway).
The Elemental is affected by Confusion for the next 1d2 ⇒ 1 round(s). Next round, the Elemental will "Act Normally."
So far this is not turning out as the creature intended.
rando1000 |
Sir Valeto:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Valeto is affected by Confusion for the next 1d2 ⇒ 2 rounds.
Valeto sits down and begins doing some odd stretches. He insists this was taught him by someone named 'Bikram'.
Both Spizz and Quince had to use too much movement to act this round.
Still need a Save from Rocko before he has a chance to act.
