Lucille

Syl made a mock bow in response. "What can I say? You're face is easy on the eyes," she replied in a sing-song response, while her posse looked on in dismay.

Syl is now Indifferent

That would get you up there with accelerated clmibing. Let's see if you get lucky.

Sandara throw: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 4 = 41d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10

Cog throw: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 4 = 31d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10

Aretta throw: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 4 = -21d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 4 = 3

Fipps throw: 1d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 0 - 4 = 21d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 0 - 4 = 6

Maybe it was Lucille's sweet tune giving Randall some inspiration. Maybe it was distracting the defenders. Or maybe it was the Drunken God himself lending some aid for a follower. For whatever reason, only Sandara and Cog were able to hit, and of those two they both rolled off harmlessly against his armor. With that, Randall was able to get up to the top successfully.

Riaris stared at the spectacle with interest... only to shrug it off and walk away.

Sandara put both Randall and Torin together in a hug. "I knew you two could do it. It's all in the legs."

In support of their friend, Jack and Conchobhar focused their attention on Chisomo instead. Shivikah spit her attention between the two while Maheem was eager to pick on the smaller ratfolk once more. The extra attention got Chisomo caught with a couple of stray hits from Jack and Chisomo, but she was able to hang on in the end as she hauled her way back in.

Maheem got a hit in, but it was Conchobhar that did him in as an attempt to toss a melon off to the side bounced against the hull and managed to hit Djir square in the face, putting him in the ocean once more.

Riaris only slight had a bit of mercy and sent the others away, replacing them with three of the remaining people who haven't started yet: the half-orc Jape, the gnome Giffer and a dwarf who the gunner called Narwhal Tate. You know that Jape and Narwhal hang with Scourge and would likely not be on your side.

Lucille is a bit bored, very mischevious and tries to start a fight between Fibbs and Chisomo, which should distract a bit more. I did ask Chisomos player is this is fine.

As Torin reaches the wormwood unscathed he casts an angry glare Riaris' way, but he bites back his anger with a grin before looking away. He had to admit getting him upset had gone far better than his previous performance. As his rage cools he takes an unsteady step as the deck threatens to spin a moment. Pushing aside his fatigue he goes to the rail to watch the others as they too keep up the struggle.

Only being familiar with Chisomo so far he cheers her on, taking a bit of vicarious pleasure in her ascent. His grin is wider still as Lucille tries to stir up trouble. Even though he'd like to see a fight, it was already pretty apparent that Fipps was one of Scourge's men. He interjected himself between the two and tried to play peacemaker.

"Oi, but we already know Fipps is a big man." Torin remarks, "Biggest on the boat in one or two ways I would reckon. Doesn't need to use his fists to hurt a girl right?"

He cast a glance back at Chisomo and favored her with a grin. Easy enough to cool a man's temper it was. Assuming his double meaning wasn't lost on the lackey.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

With the fight hopefully diffused before it started, he clapped the portly man on the shoulder and turned back to the ebony monk. "Want to cheer the little one on?" he asked her, "Don't know him myself, but I always root for the little dastards."

The song got chuckles from the more favorable crowd. Fipps on the other hand was steaming red from anger. "I'll show ya tha Owlbear fight was a fluke!"

"You're on." Syl replies with a sinister smile.

He swings a surprise right hook at Chisomo.

Surprise round attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

And attack that if failed before he could recoil his fist as he trips on his own feet and crashed hard on the ground. Undeterred, he got back up and was ready to fight.

Initiative=Chisomo: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Initiative=Fipps: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

Chisomo can go first. It's just not Fipps' day.

"Hey! You motherf~+#ing a~$+~++s stop that right now!" Riaris screams bloody murder and other expletives at the brawl, perfect timing for Djir to climb up. Giffer doesn't even bother to throw anything down on her friend. But he would still have to deal with the half-orc and dwarf if he wanted to get to the top.

Jape, having had enough of being the butt monkey of the gang after so many instances of being beat down, finally gets a win. He throws a large block of moldy cheese that was so fast and hard that it was unavoidable. Djir is sent down a third time.

Chisomo, you can finish the fight however you want want. I doubt he's winnig this at all. I will wait for how it's written before Fipp responds to Torin. And yes he's still hostile.

Once Djir gets back in the water, he is beset upon by several bashes in the head with the blunt end of her rope.

That would be 6 hp of non-lethal damage.

"Clearly, you know f&&+-all about climbing ropes. And your s###ty distractions didn't work either. Take that as a lesson when we board in a real f$&#ing fight. Either learn to fine another way up, or up some actual f#~$ing effort into what you do." Shaking her head, she rowed the jolly boat to be lifted back up to the deck.

When she reports her findings to Mister Plugg, she states that everyone is prepared to board a ship. This may come as a surprise to Djir as well as Conchobhar, Giffer and Badger who all failed to get to the top in the allotted time and also received rope bashes. Plugg's eyes narrow... but relents. There will be no Bloody Hour today.

Lucille

"Ugh." Syl groans at Fipps' poor performance. "You'd think he'd be better fighters, but he's nothing but a complete oaf." Her mouth pursed up a bit. "That does mean I owe you a favor, whatever that may be."

Afterwards she continued. "We could use someone like you in our group. We need the muscle as you can see. Jape's useless, Maheem's too caught up on his anti-god high breeches and Aretta's only skill is her trade in the flesh when she's past her prime to keep Scourge busy."

Torin offers an indifferent shrug and follows along with Djir seeing as a group was forming for cards. Including the few people he had met in his short time aboard. "If I did I don't remember the port, but that hardly means I haven't been there." Torin remarks before giving a wry smile and adding, "But then, I'm sure someone would remember me after such a night."

He receives the rum ration without ceremony or pause. It was far from pleasant, but it warmed the belly all the same. Sitting down he favors Conchobar with a smile and a nod. Taking a seat and a deep draw from his rum he exhales and looks about at the other players.

"Name's Torin." he stated with enthusiasm, "Some call me gale cuz I'm quick, and others say because I'm full of it. Nice to meet the lot of ya."

He will sit down to play cards, but he is mostly ambivalent about the outcome. Preferring to find his money in other ways, and his fortunes as well. He tries to be good company and swap stories, but most of all he tried to subtly support Conchobar's attempts to woo Rosie.

Randall listens to the conversation between Lucille and Maheem before interjecting "Bah, the Gods aren't all they're cracked up to be. I've seen too many people swear allegiance to whatever God or Goddess that is the most convenient at the time, only to switch that fealty when times change. A man's better off trusting in himself than in whatever or whoever may or may not be listening to him anyway."

"I certainly hope Besmara isn't listening in right now." he thinks to himself before waiting for Maheem to respond.

Lucille

"That'll be where Maheem's from," Syl clarified. The area's not far from the Shackles... yet I bet there's a reason he's not clamoring to get back."

Her eyes widened when Lucille explained her method of teaching Abyssal. "I'd love that!"

Apparently, the rules say it takes 20 days, but given this is an NPC, it can be at the speed of plot. Something you'll know as time goes on. Regardless, the two checks make Syl Friendly.

Djir

"I am truly sorry for that, but I must keep up my reputation to the ladies. Even grouchy crabs like the master gunner," Conchobhar replied with a grin, and you you believe he's genuine. "Who knows? Maybe that would convince her to have us at the back defending the ship. The pirate life's more than just boarding ya know."

With those checks, Conchobhar is now Helpful.

While Torin and Djir were playing around with the other short people, Rosie pulls Torin away to talk in private.

Torin:
"I know what you're doing, long-ears. Trying to pair us together." She looked briefly to see that the gnome wasn't peering in before continuing. "The attention sucks... but I like his style. I'm also liking him now that he's no longer trying to kiss Scourge's ass all the time. Just... keep him away from other women for me for now okay? At least until I decide I like him enough to try it out."

Randall

Maheem looked over to Randall and shrugs. "You're a slippery one, aren't you. Can't realy tell if you're lying or not, but it may not matter. I thought siding with our current leaders is the best bet... but I'm having my doubts. They're not the most organized lot."

"Maheem! We're meeting up with Plugg in the office room!" The big man hesitates briefly, but goes away. They are followed by Aretta, Narwhal, Jape and Fipps. Aretta talks to Badger briefly and it takes a while, but she goes along as well. Maheem may have toed the line, but you're convinced that you did make a difference.

Maheem is now Indifferent... just barely due to the high enough roll.

The most notable absence is Syl, who feels a bit uneasy about being left out from the group.

Exposition time

Randall finds himself standing next Sandara by the railing "My apologies. Things have been so hectic these couple of days I haven't made the time to introduce myself and that's just rude. My name's Randall, Randall McNally, but my friends just call me Rand. Last night you told me a little about yourself and I feel the need to return the favor. I grew up in Riddleport. My father was a fisherman and I was raised listening to the men swapping stories as they mended their nets. The sea always called to me so as soon as I was able I hopped on a ship heading out of town and haven't looked back since. Meantime, I've jumped from ship to ship and risen up, and down, the ranks ever since."

Randall will call out to Rosie "Miss Cusswell, I understand you have a fiddle. If you would be so kind as to play I will sing everyone a song"
Perform (sing): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Randall will use his Sea Shanty ability to remove the fatigue any of his allies are feeling from the days work.

Once he finishes his song, and if Rosie will continue to play, he will extend his hand to Sandara for a dance. During a particular lively reel he will pull Sandara in close and whisper in her ear "Shall we continue this dance below decks?"

Hmm, boarding practice? Likely not without a reason.

Lucille seeks to gather the magically active members of the party around.

I have the well, appropriate version of the command spell, appropriate to all 3 of my deities including Lord Gorum. Its pretty short range, but a good way to mess up a formation before impact. The rest of my kit is currently range self basically. Do you have dancing lights Rand? They can be used to mimic a ship in fog or at night, and are pretty usefull inspite of being a mere cantrip. You an also pretend that they are willowwisps with some low level illusion magic on top. Was a favorite trick of Sigurdrs Mistress, she had a trick to cast lightning Bolts, made it look as if the lightning came from the fake willowwisps and then enemies wasted rare resources on dealing with them.
Lucille plots some funny tricks. Most of them arent her tricks, but her time on the Icebrytar did have her exposed to some pretty funny stuff.

spellcraft DC15 or Kn. Arcana DC15 or Kn. Planes or Kn. Religion:

She implies she can cast murderous command. While Lustfull command woul be appropriate to Shamira and Nocticula, Gorum would not be much amused by the lustfull version.

Afterwards, she teaches Syl some Abyssal by bodypainting in the Galley.
Should cheer her up.

Randall

Sounds a lot like my dad," Sandara replied with a laugh. "I only have my mother now and she isn't as excited about me being a pirate. But I know that's the kind of life I want, and I bet you feel the same way."

Rosie was willing to keep her mind off certain thoughts and played along to a fast-paced tune with the two twirling in accordance. Once the two finished, she was out of breath, but was enjoying the company. And her mouth was close. "Funny enough I got asked that question by someone who was lost to sea a couple days ago. I missed my chance then, but I'd like to change that..." She then turned towards Chisomo for a bit. "That said, I'd rather not do so if you want strings attached. I'm not ready to hitch myself just yet."

Torin gives a smile to Rosie, and his eyes show his amusement as well. He feigns embarrassment and covers his ears with his hands. "They're not that long." he quipped, "Ma even said so..." After his play was through he did give a quick nod to Rosie so she would know he supported her.

This spurred an amusing thought in his head. If he had to keep Conchobar's hands to himself as it were, it would be far simpler were there not so many shapely bums about the ship! He chuckled and returned to socializing.

That last comment from Chisomo caused her to open her mouth in shock... which she briely recovered with a strained smile. "Excuse me for a moment." Sandara walked over to Chisomo with a grim look on her face, keeping her voice down as she spoke.

Spoiler:
"Chisomo, that was hurtful and uncalled for. You're being possessive towards me and we barely even showed affection towards each other. You know what that reminds me of? Scourge." She caught herself too late in that last word and her face softened. "I like you. I really do, but I'm not ready to be tied down. Not with Randall, you or anyone else. The others did eventually return from the officer's quarters and they all looked upon your characters as well as their allies with increased suspicion. "My dear, I don't sneak. Sneaking is for teenagers trying to avoid their parents" That being said Randall offers Sandara his arm and the two of them go below deck. Once they reach the middle hold the pair find Lucille and Syl deep into their "language lesson". At Lucille's offer Randall smiles "Perhaps some other time. Right now I think private lessons are more appropriate." As the couple goes off to find a more secluded section of the hold Randall shoots back over his shoulder "Have fun, you two."

The next morning Randall reports for duty oddly euphoric and tired both at the same time. As he listens to the First Mate's speech he can't help but notice the increased tension amognst the crew. When Scourge hands out the days assignments can't help but chuckle inside "Lookout? Well that's one way to keep distance between Sandara and I." With an "aye, aye" he jumps up on the rigging and begins his climb to the crow's nest.

He does have a lot to be pissed about concerning me. This is concerning. But is this even about me? Crap I dont know.

So, what would Lady Nocticula do? First, assess your foe, is he truely your foe? Well, yes he is. Ingratiating myself with him would mean a total surrender of my self respect. Serving under him without becoming his toadie? Nah, by my view he is fundamentally incompetent as a leader, this will get me killed long run.
Can I make him into an asset? Only by making me look great, smart, and yes, benign by comparison, which is something to be considered.
Can I make him someone elses problem? Hmmm, if I uncover treason or frame him for treason maybe, but its really hard to do so when I am not even allowed to speak to Harrigan.
Murder? Poisoning is risky, very obvious that I probably did it, and I dont want to frame fishguts for it. Fishguts could be a good asset if I mutiny succesfully at some point, I dont want to waste him on that.
Other ways of murder, getting him overboarded in a storm? Hard to pull off but doable. No problem with framing someone I like.
Hmm Mutiny? Against Harrigan? He would eat me alive.
Alternatively, could Harrigan protect me from Scourge and Plugg? If I make myself useful enough, certainly. Best if I figure out where the other officers stand. Riaris I can work for, Harrigan I can work for, there seemed to be a female who I think is a spellcaster because every ship has a major one, and Harrigans could be a Bloodrager like Sigurdr at most. Make myself super useful it is. While waiting for Plugg and scourge to do something stupid I can exploit.

If she has time, she starts casting mendings on various repairworthy parts of the Galley/Kitchen area. It would look as if she was stiching things together with shadows. She does so quite openly, and would surmise that it would at some point ping if another magic user on the ship occassionally uses detect magic.

Despite his usual bad luck with ropes, Arkhan is able to use his experience to take care of things rather easily.

Torin saw that Aretta had been deliberately holding off on her tasks in helping him take care of rat catching. But when Scourge looks down on the pot, he sneers and waves off any sort of punishment for the time being.

Chisomo sees Plugg come by to test her mended sails... rather forcefully. Thankfully the stitches hold and he walks away.

Randall does an excellent job spotting a potential low spot in the ocean and she ship easily passes by.

Lucille gets no insight as to why Plugg is being so much of a prick. Yet Kroop puts out a theory of his own. "Must've seen ya as a threat," he suggests. "Scourge always had it out for 'em from the start, but now he's got Plugg's ear. Plugg's an ambitious fella, and he'd throw his own mama ta keep his spot as first mate. Ta him you're competition for that right." Together, you two manage to make a meal Kroop believes will be satisfactory.

Djir sadly has the worst luck out of them all. No matter how hard you push, the pump simply won't budge. The ratfolk would notice that Badger herself was holding back for a bit, but genuinely put in an effort to try and get the pump to work... to no avail.

The half-elf eventually relents and talks to Djir with a sigh. "He's doin' it on purpose. Plugg sees you lot as a threat and is tryin' to discredit y'all. Scourge never liked ya, but at least Plugg hated all of us equally. Now? He wholeheartedly agrees with Scourge and he's putting y'all in jobs he know you'll fail in. This ain't how one should run a ship, and I've been at it for over 60 years."

Badger is now Friendly Just barely thanks to that nat 20."

Bloody Hour

Plugg sneers down at Djir as he is told of the atrocious performance in the bilge. "I always saw you for a lazy, spoiled rat. You'll never make it out as a pirate and I'll prove that to you. Three lashes for the rodent!"

Scourge ties up Djir to the post and dishes out his punishment.

Scourge is particularly merciless this time around, with the ratfolk passing out after the second strike. Sandara barely contains a growl as she walks over to heal him up.

Channel energy: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 That should be enough to put him back in the clear.

Once Djir is brought back to his senses, Plugg looks down on him. "I will have to keep an eye on you personally. You will now be assigned in the rigging under my watch. Randall can take your spot in the bilge."

With that all done, the air stays tense during dinner. The food is serviceable enough so that there are little in the amount of complaints among the pirates.

Night actions are now open.

Can you tell me more about your beliefs?
I wondered what Rahadoumi think of mortals who ascend to divinity, or divinity equivalents, or what they think of those who slay entities capable of answering prayers.
She leads

My own view is that divinity is in part a hypocrite lie, and that it is fundamentally about power. The gods draw power from worshippers then they give back, and use that power to overcome other gods, increasing their follower base and thus enabling further conquests, with barely a difference from the squabbles of mortal kings and queens, only on a grander and more murderous scale. That your people managed to reject them all and still maintain their position, prosper even, is worthy of respect. Saerenrae being the biggest hypocrite of them all. She fairly brazenly but truthfully flatters him.

Oh, do you accept "divine" She makes airquotes with her fingers at that word healing in general? I do, generally speaking, respect free will and individual choice outside of combat. She ends with a pragmatic question.

If Scourge sees me as a threat, well, going after me and failing is the biggest and likeliest mistake he could make. Its a risky play, but hardly not worth it. He will probably still go after Chisomo.

Randall leans against the ship's rail, watching the crew scattered across the deck. Once Grok fills his cup he raises it in salute to the Quartermaster as he feigns a drink. Instead, once she walks away to fill someone else cup, he tips the drink over the rail "One for you, Black Lady." he thinks to himself.

Satisfied that no one saw him dump his drink he moves to the center of the deck and raises his arms for attention "Have you ever heard of Captain Kurgan Bloodskull? One of the most vicious Orcish pirates to ever sail the seas, I'll tell you that." he proceeds to regale the crew with the stories of Captain Bloodskull and the crew of the Blackfin.

Randall will use his Barroom Talespinner trait to gain a +1 trait bonus on influence checks.

Later in the evening, as the crew has settled in to their various entertainments, Randall will settle in next to Maheem and strike up a conversation "I understand you're from Rahadoum. Never been there myself but I understand that they are some of the toughest Sons of a B%$&*es to ever travel the trade routes. Have to be without the crutch of divine intervention to fall back on." He'll spend the rest of the night schmoosing the sailor.

After drinking, he will quietly approach Quartermaster Grok: "That bastard Plugg will be the death of me! I can't climb for s#$+, and he's gonna put me up the mast in the rigging! Ya gotta have something in that storeroom of yours that'll help me climb and I could borrow or trade for?"

Not sure what's available, but I have 25 gp in trade goods left, and a number of items I could pawn to him. I would be looking for any of:
Lodestone Boots
Surefoot Training Blocks
Boarding Axe
Climber's kit

Torin drinks his rum with a contemplative look on his face. Quietly letting his acquaintances he had made the previous day work their attentions on each other. Looking about the crew he was considering who he should try and approach tonight. After all, he was not one to be happy until all recognized him.

Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Seeing as Sandara was a proper cleric and wily looking he decided to start up with her as she tended to Djir. "That albatross tells a good story." he began with a jerk of his thumb toward Randall, "But I'm more interested in what's afoot on this boat. My name's Torin pretty lady. Can I bend your ear for a bit? I'd like to know which way Besmera's faithful bend before I pick a side."
