Bloody Hour

At the end of the day everyone had lined up for a review of what happened. Harrigan was sneering with happiness as there were many mistakes made from their rivals that warranted a whipping. That grin disappeared when Randall appeared before them as well.

Plugg looked shocked... but managed to recover much more quickly as he backed out. "Where are Fipps and Jape? They're supposed to have been monitoring you in the bilge."

Bilge Water Runs Deep:

Randall finishes his shift in the bilges as the pair of naked men slowly regain consciousness. Before going topside he walks over to the pair of shackled prisoners "Listen, gentlemen, and listen good." to make sure he has their attention he draws one of their daggers from his belt and lets the torchlight play along it's blade before continuing "A storms coming and you can feel the wind beginning to shift before it arrives. You two owe me your lives, my companions were quite content to kill you while you were unconscious but I, reluctantly, talked them out of it. He looks both men deep into the eyes "Now you have to ask yourself will you stand windward and join the storm, or will you stand alee and be swept away when it arrives?"

Spoiler:
Fipps and Jape remain silent, but their expressions indicate little in the way of swaying them over, just resigned frustration at their constant failures.

Plugg stared deeply into the daggers and then to Randall while snatching the daggers. "We'll see about that. You do know that killing a fellow teammate calls for a kneelhauling."

Plugg went under, something that took several tense minutes. Finally, Fipps and Jape emerged with Plugg in tow, who himself looked rather nervous... and it was quickly apparent why. Behind him appeared none other than Captain Harrigan himself. And he did not look happy. All other sailors froze in place as the captain surveyed what was going on.

"This better be good. You do know I don't like being disturbed, Plugg."

"Of course captain,"Plugg replied with a rare showing of nervousness from the first mate. Yet he coughed on his fist to recover. "I found Fipps and Jape tied up and on the verge of death. They both stated that the person that nearly sent them to death was that one!" He pointed his finger at Chisomo.

"You come here missy." If she did move over, he would begin. "I want ta hear accounts from both sides about what happened."

"But sir..."

Harrigan quickly unsheathed his massive dagger and placed it on his neck. "No one else speaks!" He slowly turned back towards Chisomo. "Only who were in the bilge as well as the dark-skinned woman at the time of the attack." Plugg slowly nodded before the dagger is returned to the hilt.

I will need a Charisma check from Chisomo. Only Randall can roll for aid. Fipps and Jape will do the same and we'll see how things turn out.

Begging the Captains pardon, Sir.' Randall says with a tug of his forelock in salute {b]"But what she says is the truth. Before I was sent to the bilges this morning Mr. Plugg stripped me of my weapons which I thought awfully peculiar given the size of the rats that live down below. He told me not to worry as he was sending someone to help, fortunately he missed my holdout dagger."[/b] He flicks his wrist just so and the dagger falls back into his palm, he offers the blade to the Captain hilt first.

"When Fipps and Japes arrived I could feel something was just not right, the tension was so high you could feel it even over the oppressive heat of the bilge. Anyway, Fipps soon began to pick a fight and drew his blade to strike at me. I incapacitated Japes with a spell while Fipps and I fought. He struck two teribble blows and I was soon unconscious. When I awoke both Fipps and Japes were sprawled on the deck next to me. I assisted Chisomo in placing them in the manacles, although stripping them naked first was my idea." his face twists into a wry smile.

Unbelievably bad luck from both sides.

It didn't feel like Harrigan was convinced from what the monk was telling him, despite a valiant effort from Randall. "Ye better not be starting threats 'around here girl."

Yet that seemingly paled in comparison from Fipps attempt of covering his story. Fipps, clearly nervous with his life potentially on the line, stated that Randall and Chisomo stabbed the two of them, only for the captain to point out that the woman had no such weapons on her from the start. Jape did his best to reenact the tale... except that he couldn't speak.

"What's wrong with his mouth?"

"Jape had his tongue cut out since he was a lad."

Harrigan grunted before looking between the two sides before looking at Plugg.

"This ain't the kind of thing I signed up for when I put you as First Mate. I shouldn't have ta settle disputes so soon."

He then turned towards the crowd in general to make his statement. "Clearly there's been some tension 'round here. But know that you all work under me, and I won't tolerate any discrepancies. For that... Chisomo will receive 6 lashes." Plugg and Scourge's faces lit up... but only briefly as Harrigan continued. "While these two will be sent to the sweatbox until my say so." The two stooges' faces fell as Plugg tried to interject.

"But no one died..."

"And if they survive the box, may things will stay that way. But the next time I hear trouble about, I'm kneelhaulin' the first person I feel responsible! And I don't care how high up that person is..." He sneered a foul one at Plugg, before he sent the others to set up the other punishments for the day.

In turns of punishment, Torin was the other one who didn't manage to perform his duties well.

When the punishment was done, Fipps and Jape were dragged over to the sweatbox with barely any room for the both of them other than to lay one on top of the other. It was clear that neither of them would be coming out for the night.

Once Harrigan was gone, Scourge and Plugg slinked away. Only then did Sandara rush over to start healing.

Randall holds his breath after Chisomo tells her side of the story as he sees the dubious look on Harrigan's face. He only breathes a sigh of relief as Fipps begins his stuttering account of the incident "Thank the Gods the man is a buffoon and the other is a mute." he thinks to himself "I don't believe a word he's saying and I was there."

Randall winces as Chisomo is sentenced with six lashes all just for trying to save his life. "F@%$, me." he muses when Harrigan passes judgement on Fipps and Japes "I had hoped sparing their lives would have brought them over to our side. They didn't. The grumbling merely occurred when the food was actually eaten. It was then that they gave her their disdain with boos. Torin managed to stay standing despite the brutal whipping he had to endure, though he couldn't help but stagger as he drew back up to his feet and walked away from the mast. The long day at work and his punishment left him with heavy eyelids and a bent back, and he was all to happy to slump to the deck and rest propped up on his elbows while those little folk he had made friends with amused themselves on the evening.

He spared the occasional look around at the quad of women taking in each other's company and gave a low whistle at one point. It wouldn't likely carry to those so absorbed in each other's company. "Now that's a sight." he chirped, "S'pose I'm seeing double after that flogging?"

"There. This one needs a bit more attention, but I welcome examining more from you in the future." With a wink, she waved Torin off... only to wince at Chisomo's possible reaction.

"Like I said. Plenty to go around." She quickly changed the subject. "Eh, I doubt Besmara cares all that much. Pirates tend to be wary of the mystic anyways. All she'd want is to live your life and drop at least a few trinkets in her honor."

When Chisomo talked about her own feelings, her face softened. "Honey, there's nothing wrong with crushing on people. As long as you can handle whatever the person throws at you in response you can admire away. I bet half the Shackles wishes they had a night with Tessa Fairwind. You know I would..." Sandara stared out dreamily... then snapped out of it while blushing before continuing.

"What you said a few days back hurt a lot, but I think that was a part of jealousy speaking there too... which I helped stoked the flames at times," she admitted. "But with me, you can always take the opportunity... hopefully where we won't have to worry about sadistic officers."

Torin blinked, a bit taken aback by the sudden attention. As well as the light bit of flirting. He turned his head at Lucille's passing comment, and then gave a sly smile to Sandara's wink.

OK "Plugg f~!$ing sucks team", I am taking first shift. Mr. "Compensates for absolutely nothing of any value" lost, perhaps permanently, 2 assets today, he may do something really stupid. I would say Torin, Chisomo and Randall need some full rest after their ordeals. I will likely need a full rest tomorow, sorry for the cooking fail I was a bit distracted by certain non-culinary matters.

Djir agrees "Yeah, that's probably a good idea. I can take second shift and Cevanne here can take third. Do we want to bring some of the others (assorted helpful NPCs') in on it?"

Our protagonist pirates had decided to keep watch amongst themselves overnight. Yet nothing of note arrived. Sandara helped Chisomo over to her hammock while Lucille and Djir successfully secured more allies to their side.

The next day, the crew are assigned to their tasks (thankfully Djir is put back to swabbing, swapping with Randall), but the normalities are shortlived. Samms could be heard throughout the Wormwood with two fateful words: "SHIP AHOY!" Randall and Torin could see a ship on the horizon with the help of a telescope.

Harrigan himself emerges, a rare site in consecutive days, and is beaming at the prospect of new loot. "I want all sails out in full. All hands on deck!" He then gazed on those on the sweatbox. "Including those two idiots... if they're still alive."

Plugg opened the cage and checked on Fipps and Jape, both of whom were found unconscious. The first mate's face remains expressionless as he states. "They're still alive. Bring them up to life."

Sandara reluctantly walked over to heal the two up.

Thank you for your patience. You guys are finally gonna do some piracy! No need for rolls today. Lucille however will still get her Bloody Hour punishment for last night's shoddy meal.

Yarr yarr! Let's be about our grim business!

Torin strained his eyes to make out the ship at the call, leaning at the rail. "She's so far out." he reasoned, "If she spots us it will be a long chase."

F&+@ing finally, been a while since I properly killed Lucille says.

Alright Mr. Plugg, how about we get the whipping done now so I will be back in shape once we board? Me half-naked may as well raise the crews spirits, and maybe some other parts, compared to seeing Fibbs and Jape, naked, sweaty and joined together She says with a face about as sour as the sour milk she accidentally used for the dish, as she beholds their "forms".

Skull & Shackles: Red Sky at Morning

Randall looks up as the lookout shouts. He peers out on the horizon, just barely able to make out the ships white sails against the blue of the sky and sea. He looks at Torin "Aye, she's a long way off, but I doubt she can outrun us.". His pulse quickens at the thought of action "Finally something to do." he stares at Fipps and Japes as they slither out of the hotbox "and who knows what can happen in the heat of battle."

Torin and Randall.

"Sure it'll take a bit, but it looks to me like it's a merchant ship. And can heavy one at that. Bet we'll catch up to it the next day," Samms smirked.

Lucille

Plugg scowled. "That ship will not be caught until the next day. And I did not sign up to this ship to see your lady bits..."

A whistle was heard which ended up coming from Syl who winked. Scourge was also approaching with whip at hand... only to be stopped by the strong hand of Plugg.

"Bloody Hour will happen as planned. Whatever... pleasure anyone else has will be at your own expense."

Bloody Hour

With everyone focused on speeding up the boat, the shifts continued well into the night. Yet that didn't stop Plugg from making an example of Lucille. Scourge took off her shirt to leave her back bare, but with everyone forced to keep working, it was only to Plugg's and Scourge's benefit.

Whip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 261d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

The second strike was particularly painful, enough that the last one took her out. Sandara was called over to bring her back to life.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

The cleric helped Lucille back up her feet. "Nice try, but I've yet to see Plugg oogle anyone, man or woman. He's too professional. Scourge on the other hand would be all over you if he had the chance."

One more thing... you are now Level 2! Once you get your characters updated, we can proceed to the next stage.

Chisomo keeps a weather eye on the horizon. Her sword stays sheathed and bonded, but she runs through a grueling warmup with her seven-section-staff in preparation for the battle to come.
If the ship's store has a Climbing Kit, I'll also pick one of those up.

Eh, I have standards she whispers back.

She feels her power increasing, and her shadow becoming more powerful, it is as if she could project it behind a foe now, but she wasnt quite sure if that was really the case.

I am going to ruin a bunch of fools day! She smiled, humming to herself.

If possible, she would approach Seargent Riaris trusting in her pretty reasonable boarding performance earlier, ideally with Plugg not being nearby.

As you noticed earlier, I am a f*@$ing spellcaster, do you have any specific orders for me while boarding? I can do the following things about 3 times per day:
--Make someone f@~*ing large for about 2 minutes.
--Heal someone
--Make someone weak willed try to kill his f&%~ing friends, only lasts for about 6 seconds though but most people dont know that. Best way to use it is normally to cast it on a weakling next to a strong guy, or you bluff enemies into thinking its a far stronger spell.
--Entangle someone in his or my shadow, can be resisted by a strong will, lasts about 12 seconds.
Healing requires touching, everything else is 35 feet around me.
The stuff I was doing on the Icebrytar worked well there, but was specific to that ship because I bluffed enemies into believing I am the Mistress while she did her things, typically getting into a great position to electricute half the enemy ship, with the benefit of surprise.

The mistress of the Icebrytar:

Being a seasoned pirate, Riaris would probably know that the Icebrytar is a bit more insane then the usual pirate vesell, and that the captain has a demonic mistress, complete deal with horns, claws, tails, wings.

Riaris folded her arms and didn't say anything else. At least that was room enough for to speak.

When Lucille was finished, she replied. "We already got a f@#~ing caster and I doubt Longfarthing's willing to take her f@@$ing place. She'll do her obscuring shit while the like of you'll board and secure she ship. Stay alive, but the cap'n prefers keepin' sailors alive for ransom or recruits. I avoid any magical bullshit. If you want advice from that, ask her. But she's got a temper to burn your ass if yer not careful."

Permission to speak Madam Longfarthing?
If she says yes

I can easily sense that your magics far outstrip mine, I do not want to get in your way, magically or otherwise, and I wish to discuss if there are possible ways of our relatively minor talents being of use to support yours.

Officer Riaris informed me that you plan to employ fog as a covering method? We could create dancing light cantrips at a distance from our ship but still in the mist, to give them a false idea of where in the mist we are.
If you happen to have a spare pair of horns, a tail and some glue, I can totally do my "I AM A SUCCUBUS YOUR FRIEND IS DOMINATED BWAHAHAHA" routine
She rolls her eyes Seriously it works far more often then it should, and greatly increase friendly fire on their side, while just actually using the relatively humble murderous command spell.
All of my stuff is fairly short ranged, 35 feet and less, and requires line of sight. I also have enlarge person, but its 2 minutes coming from me. To be best of my knowledge, I can not use shadow trap against the enemy ships steering rudder, which would have been very useful to disable them once we are nearby otherwise.
Your orders Ma'am?

Lucille asks, being incredibly polite and deferential, while trying to get a chuckle out of the sorcerress with the "I AM A SUCCUBUS" routine.

Again, she isn't someone you can influence. But she's at least one of the friendlier ones.

The woman glances towards Plugg and Scourge before eyeing the caster while folding her arms. "Go ahead."

While Lucille didn't get a laugh out of the joke, she remains patient while the other woman continued its tale to its completion. Only then did she reply. "Your idea's not too bad, but just know that putting yourself ahead like that's likely going to get your targeted with ranged fire. And you are going to board the ship tomorrow or you'll get the cat from Plugg." It was a fair bit of distance away, but Lucille could see that Master Plugg held a whip like Scourge... except his looked barbed and hand multiple ends.

"The thing about casting is that you do best when people's eyes aren't on yourself, hence the fog cloud. That goes double if you don't have any protections on yourself heading out there. You can try the idea, but I don't have the supplies on me. Grok might."

She leaned in closer to speak more softly to Lucille. "Casters are valuable here at sea. We get to be treated worse if captured. I learned that the hard way the first time I was at sea," she added grimly.

You had me at fog cloud. Clouds happen to be my specialty. Although. Rull is being a bit of a b*%&% with that one. As yet.
