A PC in the group I'm running became infected with the fever and paralyzed on the same attack. Another ghoul then coup de graced the PC and he failed his saving throw to survive. The surviving PCs put the body in a bag of holding and carried on with the adventure. Once they get back to Sandpoint, they will decide if they have the resources to get him raised.
I'm considering having him raised as a ghoul and attacking whoever opens the bag of holding. Will this work since he didn't actually die of ghoul fever, but was killed by one? Also, will Gentle Repose have any effect on the turning process?

By RAW, that shouldn't work. But you're the GM, so you can change it if you want. Though if you do s without some other justification, it should be a fairly easy Knowledge-Religion check (probably DC 11) for the PCs to know that that would happen. Which means that, taking 10, I very much doubt they'd fail.

The player didn't really seem too concerned with if they could raise him or not. The part would pretty much have to sell off almost all their loot to get the component and hire a caster for raise dead. I think I'm going to talk to him and see if he was just mass at the time because he died or if he really doesn't care. I think he's ready for a new character and I think a ghoul out of the bag would be pretty fun. I'll justify it by some strange effects of the manor acting as Vorel's phylactery.
It's my first time being a GM and I think it's going fairly well. The players seem to look forward to our sessions

If the player intends to re-roll his character then doing the ghoul in the bag could be pretty funny. If you're not absolutely sure about the player though it is a pretty huge d-move to coup-de-grace, perma-kill him and then make him wait a long time inactive and have no ability to participate in the game.
