The mighty Kaztor strides into the room and swings a big hammer, slamming it angrily into the floor just missing the skeleton that is on fire. It seems to be a bit hot actually. Really hot, now that he is standing next to it.
The Phantom floats on past and over to the other undead fiend, preparing to strike if only her arms were solid enough to do so. The heat never really bothers her though.

Bold may act! Trained K: Religion to ID, though the base creature is a skeleton and thus a very common foe. Therefore I will assume you ALL know automatically that they have DR 5/Bludgeoning.

Grunigon grumbles about 'stinkin skeletons when he'd just gotten a really nice dag' and switches to his mace. By then the doorway was blocked so he waits.
| GM TOP |
The sneaky ninja warpriest slips into the room and strikes the skeleton hard. His hammer cleaves through the creature and weakens the magical bonds holding it together. Unfortunately those bonds do not go quietly and flaming debris explodes outwards, striking Dran, Kaztor and Halali.
Those three please make a reflex save for half damage (or none if you have evasion). Halali gets a +2 from Cover.
Ander misses his shot, the bullet zipping past the last skeleton and cracking into the wall.
It tries to very ineffectually claw at the incorporeal phantom, but finds no purchase to any attack.
Round 1: You coulda just not opened the door, ya know?
Phantom (readied)

Bilos

Halali
Bold may act! Trained K: Religion to ID, though the base creature is a skeleton and thus a very common foe. Therefore I will assume you ALL know automatically that they have DR 5/Bludgeoning. I will roll up into round two once everyone has had a chance to act in round one.
Bilos Nizhnyy

BIlos turns the phantom ectoplasmic, that it may smite their foes.
Halali Skyseeker
|
reflex, cover: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18
"Ow! Do they always do that when they break?"
Halali closes on the second skeleton, looking down at her three-section-staff with a frown. "Should have brought a kusari-gama" she mutters.
sansentsukon, flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Resolute, Halali takes advantage of the phantom's physical manifestation to aim her bludgeon at the fiery skeleton's head.
reflex, just in case: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
No evasion, but I'll take that ;)
| GM TOP |
Bilos tries to get his Phantom into the game, but is mid ritual when Halali strides up and brains the other skeleton into explodey bits. Psara seems a bit disappointed but at least isn’t injured when she shifts into ecto form.
Explosion 2: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Combat Over! Halali is at -2 HP, Kaztor and Andor at -1 HP.
The room is quite after the last clatter of bones hitting the walls settle.
Two stone altars, one black and one white, sit at either end of this large chamber, which takes up two wings of the tower on this level. The crumbling remains of wooden benches sag in front of each altar beneath rotting ceiling tapestries. Carved symbols and writings snake along the walls. The burnt corpses of two troglodytes lie on the floor in the center of the room.
Dran Stoneheart
|
I think Dran was hit by one of the fire death blasts as well.
That singed me beard. Dran mutters as he looks at the altars. Seems unwise ta get between them two altars. Can anyone read the writin?
Kaztor Firebeard
|
”Aw, reading fancy languages isn’t my strong point. Maybe we should’ve brought one of those nerdy elf types with us to do the reading,” Kaz says with a laugh. He pulls out his healing wand, asking if Bilos or Dran would be nice enough to use it on him.
”feel free to use my wand if any of you got blown up back there!”
CLW 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Grunigon Durinslag
|
Grunigon walks into the room once the door is clear. Seeing the burnt bits of skeleton and no enemies he hangs his mace back on his belt. "Most of the elves I've known couldn't read a civilized language like dwarven!"
He glances at the symbols though in the unlikely instance that he might recognize the writing. Not likely since the only languages I know are common, dwarf, and sylvan....
Halali Skyseeker
|
"Ah, I'm fine. It's not like I haven't been burned before." Halali's hand subconsciously goes to her facial scars.
Gozreh's Kiss. Not something that one forgets.
"It's likely those skeletons were guarding something. Let's have a look at these altars."
Halali checks over the black altar first.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
| GM TOP |
You all suss out that this room is a temple dedicated to Nethys, the god of magic, in both of his aspects: protection and destruction. The writings on the walls are quotes from Nethys’s holy book.
The altars still contain their silver altar services, worth 100 gp altogether, as well as two silver holy symbols of Nethys. In addition, a divine scroll rests atop each altar: a scroll of shatter on the black altar, and a scroll of shield other on the white altar.
And… a secret door is located by Ander cleverly hidden in the wall of the southern room. It appears to be locked.
Kaztor Firebeard
|
”Might as well take all the valuable stuff. It’s not doing Nethys any good all the way out here, is it,” Kaz grins.
Once the group was ready, he volunteered to open the secret door.
Ander Therinor
|
Better hope he doesn't toss a fireball at you for taking it... Ander says with a grin as he loads his weapon after a quick cleaning of the barrel.
That door gonna be a problem? I might be able to blow the lock away if it can't be...persuaded to open...
Grunigon Durinslag
|
Grunigon moves up to examine the secret door. Perception to find traps?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Hmm.... Is there a lock here? Not with this roll! Open my eyes next time!
Then gets out his tools to try and open the lock. Disable device: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
If that doesn't work he will continue trying (Take20?) until he either opens it or knows that he cannot.
Dran Stoneheart
|
I can likely figure how to use the scrolls. Divine scroll of shield though... Hmm. Not a normal divine spell, 'cept if you follow Nethys I guess.
| GM TOP |
Grunigon again takes his time to open the door and eventually gets it with a click. He steps back and Kaztor shoves the wall door open. Inside he sees…
A living, moving fabric seems to cover the ceiling of this half-collapsed chamber, which stretches northwest into darkness. The pungent smell of ammonia rises from the droppings that litter the floor.
He can’t quite see around the corner though from his vantage point.
Halali Skyseeker
|
"Umm. Shut the door, maybe? Whatever's covering the ceiling, seems like it ought to stay locked up."
"And the smell. Gozreh's Breath, spare me! Are all ancient dungeons as bad as this? There's a spell for this, right? 'Gozreh's Pot Pourri' - is that the one?"
Ander Therinor
|
Ander blows some smoke to try to deal with the stench.
Might help..likely won't...worth a try... he says with a shrug.
That does have a kick to it...unreal...makes the trogs we whacked seem like a bunch of roses...
Psara the Horntaker
|
Psara goes incorporeal and does her normal scouting thing, thankful that she cannot interact with the aroma like this.
| GM TOP |
Psara zips in, stirs up a swarm of bats, notices a wooden shelf with a few vials on them and then zips back into sight of the group.
If you don’t want to shut the door quickly, we will enter initiative.
Kaztor Firebeard
|
Kaz knows the group has to clear the place looking for any clues that might be there. Even if the group might not be happy, he keeps the door open and walks into the room, presenting himself as bait for whatever might be waiting for them. ”You all can stay outside if you want…”
Dran Stoneheart
|
Well rats, my post never showed up.
Earlier
So, we just gonna leave this silver sitting around near these old, unused, abandoned altars?
Now, assuming we were told about the bat swarm
Hold Kaztor. I've no good way to fight a swarm. Unless others are better prepared than I, might be best ta leave that door closed.
I have one alchemist's fire in truth, but i am not good at throwing it. :)
Bilos Nizhnyy
|
"I know a guy, but he's stuck in Rahadoum now/"
The first time I played this, it was witha cleric that channeled negative energy. Highly efficient, would recommend.
Bilos Nizhnyy
|
Nope, just "everyone stand 35 feet away".
Kaztor Firebeard
|
Kaz pulls his flask of acid, holding it out for the others to see. ”Ive got two flasks of acid. We can burn them all with the acid, I hope. Stand back, I’ll lead us forward and try to take out a decent chunk of them.”
Grunigon Durinslag
|
Grunigon pulls a flask of his own and moves up by Kaztor. "Fire and Acid then. Let them come to us."
Dran Stoneheart
|
Holding his greatsword in one hand Dran also pulls an alchemical but does not look confident in it's use. Likely gonna splash meself...
| GM TOP |
The dwarves pull out various flasks and prepare to battle! The bats coalesce into an angry mob and surge toward food.

Bold may act! You are aware how swarms work from your pathfinder training. A knowledge nature check could ID special attributes to this swarm.

"Let them come to us, then throw together."
Waiting for the bats to move. Ready action to throw when the swarm is 5' away.

Kaz throws his acid flask at the tricky swarm of bats!

"Ugh. I hope this is worth it."
Halali picks her way through the bat droppings, wielding her own acid flask.

Grunigon knows that these buggers drink blood. And to do that, they secrete a specific enzyme that prevents normal blood clotting in animals. So if injured by them, you just slowly bleed out… unless they kill you outright or you get medical attention (DC 10 Heal to stop blood or any kind of healing).
He and the rest prepare to throw splash weapons. The bats don’t wait for an invitation to their meal, instead rushing forward to devour the short hairy folk. Two splash weapons miss (but still splash) and then Halali’s connects, searing quite a few bats with the caustic substance.
And then the bloody biting happens.
Ouch!: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Rounds 1 & 2: I AM BATMAN!

Kaztor (-5 HP, 1 bleed at start of turn)

Bold may act! You are aware how swarms work from your pathfinder training.
Im allowing the round to roll over in case you all want to allow the two in the swarm to move out before splashing them to bits.
Bilos Nizhnyy

Bilos doesn't have anything particularly useful to do, so gives some advice to the next dwarf to throw.
Ranged Attack, Aid Another, DC 10: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Not good advice, mind you.
Psara the Horntaker
|
Psara doesn't have anything particularly useful to do, so runs through the swarm and makes a big show of herself, hoping that DR and a lack of blood prevent her from dealing with too much pain.
Ander Therinor
|
Get clear...I'm not s good with this as my boomstick... Ander calls out, waiting until the others are clear before launching his own flask.
toss, PBS: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 131d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Dran Stoneheart
|
Aye, get out the way! I got clinging fire here.
Dran moves back, not daring to throw, with his friends close.
Grunigon Durinslag
|
Grunigon feels the bites, more like stings and knows the effect. "Gotta get these things killed quick or anybody bit, like me, will bleed out without healing"
He steps back, pulls another flask and slings it into the cloud of bats.
acid flask to hit: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage if that hits: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Anybody have an area effect attack? I think they do 1.5x damage?
And now I'm out of flasks....
Kaztor Firebeard
|
Kaz double moves out of the bats this round, giving the others a chance to throw their alchemical goodies before he does the same next round. ”Watch out! They are in my beard!”
| GM TOP |
Kaz and Grunigon wisely get out of range as they drip blood from their wounds. Grunigon turns and hits the swarm solidly with some acid and Ander splashes them as well. They look weaker, but still dangerous.
Rounds 1 & 2: I AM BATS, MAN!

Range Touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Sadly can’t Crit swarms. I know, it sucks! The burning will definitely finish the swarm next round though, but it will get in another round of attacks if Halali can’t take it out now.
Halali Skyseeker
|
Halali puts her hand in her pack, retrieving her only remaining alchemical grenade.
They can't live much longer, surely? The fire's spreading.
She holds onto the flask, watching.
alchemist fire: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Halali waits to see if the swarm burns away. If it doesn't, and if it's not moved over her, then she throws her only alchemists fire (assuming anyone else in the swarm agrees).
Sorry for delay in posting, my bad.
