Ander Therinor |
Any day, guys and gal... Ander says controlling his breathing as he steps back one pace and lowers his gun at the crocodile and pulls the trigger.
I'm gonna make a pair of boots out of yer hide..
bang, PBS: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 221d12 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
reload as a move action thanks to paper cartridge and Rapid reload.
Kaz....you ok over there? Might need a bit of help shortly....
Halali Skyseeker |
Halali reaches the top of the stairs, ready to confront the croc and its master.
"Where's the garden? I am so disappoint."
She whirls her staff.
double move.
Kaztor Firebeard |
”Im doing great to only have one arm,” Kaz gripes at his gunslinger buddy.
He then double moves and closes to confront the yellow garbed trog spellcaster.
Could someone move up up to yellow please?
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon considers the prisoner, and the sounds. "A key? Haven't seen one yet. But maybe whatever is up topside has it? Sounds like my friends need me. We'll go kill that and I'll come back and release you. Just wait a bit longer...." He turns and runs for the stairs.
Double Move. And sounds like next round will also be double move to get up the stairs if the line clears....

Regarding Psara and the OOC question, I believe line of effect is the important thing. And until she popped through the door, she still has a line of effect with Bilos. I'm going to assume she just zipped in and looked and came back out too, like her usual scouting. I could always be wrong in how it works too.
Psara indeed sees a human male chained to a wall inside a small room. His eyes go wide, "OH S*~#, GHOST! NEVER MIND NO HELP NEEDED HERE I'M OK!!!"
Bilos heads up the stairs and out on the top floor.
I have now made the top floor into slide #1.
Grunigon starts following his allies, but only makes it a little up the stairs. Halali tromps on up to the top, following quickly by Dran.
Kaztor moves over to the caster?
Kaz, the caster is red, not yellow. You can double move to either one though. Which do you want? If you DO move all the way over to red, you would get an AoO as they are still currently casting a spell.
And last but definitely not least, Shooter blasts a big ole hole into the crocodile's tail, severing tendons and tearing muscle! The crock seems not happy at all.
Round 5: Final Boss!!!
Ander (top floor)
Bilos (top floor)
Grunigon (5 ft up stairs)
Psara (4th level, incorporeal)
Kaztor (-9 HP, top floor, decision?)
Halali (top floor)
Dran (-7 HP, top floor, standard action still)

Kaz moves to the caster and prays his hammer would land true on the nasty casting troglodyte.

The brave, very brave, dwarf ignores his ally Ander's concern and charges the big boss. He is ready to go out swinging!
And swing he does. It just sadly bounces off the albino trog's thick scaly hide. The foe snorts and continues to concentrate on his spell.

Botting, sorry this game went stagnant a bit there.
Dran swings at the croc in front of him, no animal is gonna threaten his friends/companions/allies in his presence!
Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 for Slashing: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 = 9
And lops the head right off the scaly critter.
The yellow cloaked trog tromps over into flanking with the big boss and bites at the brave paladin!
Yellow vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 2 = 21 for BPS: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
But chips a tooth on the dwarf's hard head (1 NL).
The bigger danger arrives though, as the caster finishes his spell. Pouring magically out of the cracks in the floor swarm tiny little black spiders. They crawl up and onto Halali and Dran, biting and working their way into any open orifices in their frenzy!
Swarm Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Dran and Halali have Fort saves against Poison and Distraction (DC 11), in that order please. Failure vs. the Distraction ability makes you nauseated for 1 round.
Dran is also at 0 HP and currently staggered.
The caster laughs as his spell works so well, then begins casting another one! But this time he is more careful, not leaving an opening for Kaztor to strike (casting defensively).
Round 6: Final Boss!!!
Ander (top floor)
Bilos (top floor)
Grunigon (5 ft up stairs)
Psara (4th level, incorporeal)

With things looking so grisly, Kaz declares his smite against the caster and tries again with his hammer.
Attack with Smite Evil 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Damage 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Ander Therinor |
Dran! Stay on yer feet, blast it! Time for you to go, you scaly son of a motherless goat! Ander yells as he aims at the boss trog and pulls the trigger.
5 ft step, fire and reload a paper cartridge...spending grit to resolve it at touch AC...

bang part 2: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 1 = 24
Psara the Horntaker |
Psara takes a quick look at the captive (to see if they are secretly a trog or something), then floats back out to report (and stay tethered).

gm reroll, fort vs nausea: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25
Spitting out spiders, Halali grimaces. With a sideways glance towards the unfortunate Dran, she barrels straight towards the trog boss...
stunning fist attack, charge: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 if it hits, Fort DC13 or Stunned 1 round
Halali whirls around, staff flailing.
Bilos Nizhnyy |
Bilos steps away from the spiders and sees if the caster can maintain the spell with a rock in his face.
Telekinteic Projectile: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Ander drills the caster for with a bullet! But it just clips him in the shoulder, not even that bad of a wound.
Concentration DC 14: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
And sadly (for the dwarves) not enough pain to interrupt the casting. Bilos tries to follow that with a rock to the head, but the foe turns to dodge Kaztor’s holy smite at the exact moment needed to also dodge the psychically thrown stone (no precise shot sucks!).
The short legged dwarf on the stairs keeps chugging away, almost making it to the top. Psara zips towards the fight as well. The chained up human inside definitely looks human.
Halali says, ”I got this” and rushes to punch the albino trog in a place that will really mess him up. But dammit, this bugger is just too tough and shrugs off the blow (miss) with a sneer.

Dran vs. Poison: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 Made Save
Dran vs. Distraction: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Made Save
Dran moves back behind Ander, planning to get himself healed up and back in the fight.
GM TOP |
The swarm swarms hungrily at Shooter (the nearest target), biting and chewing at his face!
Swarm BPS: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Ander make a Fort save vs. Poison and a Fort save vs. Distraction, DC 11 on both. If you fail the distraction save you are nauseated for one round. If you succeed, act normally.
And just what everyone needed, another enemy appears! This one seems to also have been conjured into this location by the caster. It bites hungrily at Halali.
Centipede vs. Halali + Flank: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16
But just barely misses! Finally a break for the dwarf crew. The summoner frowns, but takes advantage of the flank to unleash a flurry of attacks against her.
Scimitar + Flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 = 20 for Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Bite + Flank: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Claw + Flank: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
And manages to connects with a slash across her shoulder. The wound should get looked at when she gets a chance.
The last little bugger cackles in glee at all the carnage and tries to finish off Kaztor.
Yellow Bite vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 1 + 2 = 14
Yellow Claw 1 vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 = 9
Yellow Claw 2 vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 2 = 11
But is just as incompetent as usual. Perhaps things are going to turn around for the dwarves in this fight?

Kaztor Firebeard |
Kaz was beginning to doubt his faith with the God removing all accuracy from his weapon. He didn’t quit however, and kept swinging away, hoping his smite declaration could help him get lucky. .
Attack with Smite Evil 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11

Crap, crap, crap, crap... Ander curses as he waves off the swarm and blows some smoke at them, hoping it helps with them as well. He steps to the side and lowers his gun at the chief trog.
band, PBS, touch: 1d20 + 5 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 14 = 301d12 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
He then reloads with a fancy paper cartridge.
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon continues stomping his way up the stairs.... until he sees the swarm of bugs at the top. He curses himself for using up his flasks of fire and acid against the previous enemies. What were his allies doing against the enemy here!?!
And now I've got nothing I can use against a swarm!
GM TOP |
Grunigon, I have placed you on the top floor. You have 10 feet of your current move left and a Standard Action after that. What would you like to do with it?
Psara the Horntaker |
Psara finishes ascending and positions herself.
Bilos Nizhnyy |
And Bilos gives her her corporeal form back.
GM TOP |
Ander easily fights off the annoying little biting bugs, steps away from them and blasts a bullet at the summoner. It drills him in the chest, but doesn't quite seem to be enough to take the dangerous foe down yet.
I think you get +1 instead of +14 there, but that still hits touch AC.
Bilos begins concentrating Psara back into the solid world. While he does that, she takes advantage of her remaining moments to dart up the stairs and past the foes into a flanking position. The albino trog takes an ineffectual swipe at her fleeting form before cursing at the distraction.
Kaztor digs his feet into the ground and swings hard, focusing all his effort on connecting. With the distraction provided he just barely manages to connect, crushing bone with a solid body blow. The enemy is still up though.
Round 7: Final Boss!!!
Ander (-6 HP)
Bilos (concentrating)
Grunigon (10 ft regular move left and a Standard Action)
Psara (incorporeal but pending solid form)
Kaztor (-9 HP, -1 NL, smite vs. red)
Halali (-9 HP)
Dran (-12 HP, Staggered)
Swarm
Centipede
Red Trog (-21 HP, AoO Used, a lot tougher than the other trogs)
Yellow Trog (-5 HP)
Bold may act!
Grunigon Durinslag |
Ah. Looked like coming up the stairs would put my in the swarm....
Grunigon steps away from the swarm and attacks the closest Trog.
1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10
He must be thinking about the swarm behind him though as his dagger completely misses the creature.
Halali Skyseeker |
"Aaarrghhh! Storm and Salt!" Halali screams as she gets cut by the trog's blade. She tries to hold the creature's attention, despite her wounds...
sansetsukon flurry: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
sansetsukon flurry: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
...then she steps away from the summoned critter and calls over her shoulder "Tell me when to duck, Shooter!"
GM TOP |
I'll bot Dran as there aren't a lot of things he can do in his injured state and I haven't heard from him in a while. And maybe with a little luck we can wrap up this fight and scenario quickly!
The rogue steps up and attacks the smaller trog, avoiding the time-waste of going after a summoned foe. He misses though. All that stair climbing really takes it out of someone with short legs!
Halali grits her teeth and focuses on the boss with a feint low, quickly followed with a hard driving blow to the midsection. Ribs crack and the enemy wheezes, but is still somehow alive!
Dran carefully focuses on his wand, pulling it out and clutching at his wounds to keep them from getting worse. He feels juuuust about ready to faint from blood loss.
The swarm acts next, chasing after it's previous foe who remains the closest target. It rears up like a wave of hideous black legs and fangs, crashing down over Shooter before disappearing back to whatever hell it came from (moved, attacked, then it's summoned duration ended).
BPS: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Ander, same saves as last time. Damn I rolled hella good on that thing's damage every round! I'm glad it's gone now though.
The centipede continues the attack, trying to rip Halali a new one.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
But she easily blocks the strike with her elbow pushing away it's head.
The very injured albino trog turns to Kaz, "THAT HURT! WHAT IS THAT, SOME SORT OF HOLY WEAPON? WELL F%@* YOU!" He stabs at the paladin.
Scimitar + Flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27 for Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Scimitar Crit?: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15
And while Kaz is barely standing, in a similar shape to Dran, this just pisses off the enemy even more! He bites and claws at the holy dwarf.
Bite + Flank: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Claw + Flank: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
And then screams angrily for his flanking partner to finish him!
Yellow Bite vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Yellow Claw vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15
Yellow Claw 2 vs. Kaz + Flank: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 1 = 23 for BS: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Yellow Claw 2 Crit?: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14
And while Kaz does collapse to the ground, a smile is clearly visible on his face. His god DOES love him. Nothing else could explain that luck. And with his allies ready to finish the fight Kaz calmly dreams of taking on every enemy in the world, sacrificing himself to protect everyone.
Round 7: Final Boss!!!
Ander (-11 HP, Fort vs. Poison, Fort vs. Distraction)
Bilos

Psara the Horntaker |
Psara slams her newly-ectoplasmic hands into Red.
Flareglaive of l'Bayal: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 2 = 24
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Flareglaive of l'Bayal: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16

Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10
Critical Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon isn't surprised that the trog had ignored him since his blade hadn't even touched his armor. He takes a step to his left, focuses his attention and tries again....
attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8
With absolutely no excuse he misses even worse than before!
GM TOP |
Psara piledrives her glaive into the skull of her foe, he collapses like a creature that is no longer conscious. Shiny bloods oozes from his ears indicating brain trauma.
Red is down!
Ander Therinor |
fort: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14
fort, distract: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
I'm sick of these blasted bugs or whatever the heck they are... Ander angrily swats away some of the insects as he clears his sightline and lowers his gun. Seeing his initial target drop, he switches to the centipede.
Firing! he calls out, hoping no one gets caught with shrapnel.
bang!: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 131d12 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
GM TOP |
Dran heals himself up. Finally his vision is able to focus on the sounds of battle behind him. He turns to see a nasty looking albino trog collapse to the ground.
The last little trog, as one might expect when facing the combined might of over 9000 dwarves, turns and runs away screaming (again).
Frankly, anyone except Dran, Psara and Ander can take a hack at Yellow if they want to prevent him from running away (Grunigon gets and AoO, everyone else would be able to move and strike before he acts).
If he gets away, the group can peer over the edge in about a minute and see him sprinting pell-mell across the plains, running for his life.
The summoned giant many legged insect fades away after making a single ineffective bite at Halali.
In the chest by the throne are a few useful items, including an orb that glows with a soft moonlight.

Alright! I need dayjobs for Ander, Bilos, Dran and Grunigon. And if anyone is doing FJC and needs to know about something, question away. I'm working on chronicles and should have them up soon here. Please reference our discussion thread as well to put up your thoughts on our next scenario/module.

Grunigon's Day job is locksmith, crafting locks and keys.
Locksmithing: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 I guess I'm going hungry on that roll!
Ander Therinor |
Ander lets the trog go, his fallen teammates being his top priority.
Is everyone ok? That was a wee bit too hairy for my liking... he asks as he gets out his wand.
Can one of you use this? That swarm had really sharp teeth for the size of the buggers... he reloads after making sure everyone still had a pulse.
GM TOP |
Grunigon slashes quickly, low and at the legs of his foe as they dart past. His blade draws blood but the enemy seems to make it to the stairs.
Everyone hears a few thumps though and upon investigation find the trog has completely bled out from a severed femoral artery and collapsed about ten feet down.
No SA but enough damage to take him out, nice kill!
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon cleans and sheaths his blade, then moves back to the stairs. "Gotta free that prisoner now. Says he's a pathfinder agent named Balenar Forsend. He's probably got a bit of a story 'bout why he's here...."
"He's shackled. I'll try to open them but if anyone has seen a key that would make it quicker."

The big boss here has a few darts, a really nice quality scimitar (MW), a magical cloak (+1) and keys to some doors (which you later find out are on floor three).
Inside the chest by the throne are some more items (including the orb). A very nice shortsword (MW), fifteen cold iron shurikens, two flasks of acid, two potions (cat's grace and lesser restoration), a wand (summoner monster I, CL 3, 9 charges), a really nice amethyst (100g) and 247g in assorted coins.
Functionally though, none of it is really usable since the scenario is over. But it will show up on the chronicle as purchasable. That wand is actually pretty sweet at low levels.
Ander Therinor |
Well, that makes this a successful mission then. So...Balenar...do you do this often? If so, we can make a decent living off of rescuing your behind....ha! Ander says as he offers the agent a swig of wine to celebrate his freedom.
Bilos Nizhnyy |
Chronicle looks good. And I have my wand of cure light ready for a dungeon crawl.
