None of you have any languages in common with it.
Mrs. Book

None of you have any languages in common with it.
Indeed, Mrs. Book shakes her head no. As Mrs. Book indicated above, we would need to learn its language. And expensive prospect until we can level up, which will be too late to do us any good.
Viridian Torr
|
” I cannot do anything for the frog. Let us retreat back to the grate room. Someone suggested we may find something there to help here. The sacrificial frog saved us from interaction with this mud creature before we are ready. We may need to rest before returning. Blitz! Come!“
Mrs. Book

” I cannot do anything for the frog. Let us retreat back to the grate room. Someone suggested we may find something there to help here. The sacrificial frog saved us from interaction with this mud creature before we are ready. We may need to rest before returning. Blitz! Come!“
"I agree. Let's us move on and leave the fellow in peace."
| DM Carbide |
The party retreats from the waterfall room and considers their next moves.
Viridian Torr
|
Viridian and wolf return to grate room and will check those if trapped and once everyone arrives will try to lift one.
perception : 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36
why do I get the feeling I will wish that 20 was for an impending saving throw :)
| DM Carbide |
Neither grate is trapped, and they lift easily.
| DM Carbide |
Before anyone goes any further, what's the plan? Are you going to swim down through the grate while holding your breath and hope you reach someplace where you can breathe before you drown? Only one of you has the Swim skill, so even with Wild Shape you'll be facing some not-insignificant challenges.
Lybram Tendras
|
If we decide to go back town and get a scroll of water breathing, is that even possible? Is the town near by equipt with 5th level casters?
"This is still not my favorite option, but with rest and preperation it could be less of a gamble."
Lybram has money and would be willing to purchase the necessary scroll.
| DM Carbide |
There's a wizard of appropriate level and specialty living in Fort Inevitable, the town closest to the Spire.
Mrs. Book
|
"Then let us return after we have procured a scroll or water breathing. I know of a wizard that should be able to help us. How shall we pay for it? I have 63 gold, but that is only about a fifth of the money we will need."
Mrs. Book
|
"Water creatures often use cold based attacks. If you are rich enough, you could buy some protection against magical cold. Having a weapon that is good in water would be nice too. A club is not all that effective, I expect, when swinging though water. Not sure what else to suggest. My acid arrow spell will be next to useless, that is for sure."
Lybram Tendras
|
Lybram will purchase a cold iron spear. Plus he gives Corbrae 125 gold to help with the scroll price.
spear and gold total will be 129g.
| DM Carbide |
The party returns to the surface, drying out on the way, and heads to the manor house occupied by Abernard Royst, a retired adventurer and transmutation wizard. He greets the party. "Ah! You're the lot who's been exploring the areas under that old ruined tower nearby. What do you need?" On being told, he chuckles. "I keep a couple of those scrolls on hand--they're useful things. Standard pricing, I'm afraid. The Guild has its rules, you know!"
If we could play this in Campaign mode, he would have had a couple of quests for you. Ah, well!
Viridian Torr
|
”Aye, these will prove helpful.“
Viridian nods in gratitude then pauses then asks…
” Would you say it is common knowledge of our travels or just some trivia you follow due to your line of business? We are not certain but suspect some here in the fort are trying to impede our progress. Has anyone else been asking about us that you have heard?. .“
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book donates 60 gp to the cause.
| DM Carbide |
"It's not exactly common knowledge, but I have some contacts in the Pathfinder Society."
Mrs. Book
|
After a tilt of her head as she considers, she remarks, "Well, isn't that interesting, though not totally surprising. The society is pretty far reaching."
Mrs. Book
|
"I guess we should head back, after we finish the paperwork of course."
Mrs. Book
|
I'm thinking we only need one. 2 was suggested because that is what fit on a 2 PP scroll, but if we are going the cash route...
| DM Carbide |
OTOH, getting 2 means that you have more than an hour to explore the rest of the level, in case most or all of it is under water.
| DM Carbide |
*whistles innocently, looking at ceiling*
Lybram Tendras
|
Could Lybram buy 2 scrolls of mage armor and have Mrs Brooks cast them on him? Mage armor is not personal is it?
"Mrs Brooks, I have a tactical question for you ..."
Lybram asks about the mage armor casting once they get back to the water level.
50 gold for a scroll of 2 mage armor spells 1st level.
Mrs. Book
|
Could Lybram buy 2 scrolls of mage armor and have Mrs Brooks cast them on him? Mage armor is not personal is it?
That would work, but Mrs. Book is a Sorceress and offers it just cast it on you since she has the spell and she has enough 1st level spells to spare a casting, particularly with the Acid Arrow spell being her only second level spell and quite useless here. But buying a scroll for future use is not a bad idea.
"Are we going to get wet AGAIN!?!"
"Undoubtedly, Mr. Hilltopple, undoubtedly."
Lybram Tendras
|
Ahhh! Mrs. Books, not Mrs Brooks. I will get it right in my head soon. I don't know why I am mixing tgose names up. My apologies.
"Getting wet is not as bad when we are ready for it. I think I will leave Li'le Fella guarding my gear again. He is difficult to control at the best of times. Underwater, it will be impossible."
Viridian Torr
|
” By the Green. Blitz can swim somewhat but may keep your small friend company until we return.“ nodding to Lybram.
assuming we try the grate and not the mudlord upon our return? I did not see any good remedy for the muck. Unless someone else had a trick to try?.
Lybram Tendras
|
Let's try the grates. The muck in the mud elemental room may be less a problem from another approach.
"I am ready to continue. I am ready to do some swimming."
Lybram Tendras
|
Just making sure, we have rested the night and are moving back to the Emerald Spires early the next day. Correct? We are just deciding if we are getting 2 scrolls of water breathing or just one. Correct? We still have a water breathing potion and 2 snorkels we found. Currently, Lybram has a new ci spear, 2 new mage armor scrolls, and his purse weight is -125g towards the 1st water breathing scroll.
"A second waterbreathing scroll offers safety. But if it is not used someone would need to purchase it outright. Might just be easier to split the first scroll as we know we will use it and then if someone wants to purchase the 2nd, we could then split it again if used. Or, if not used the purchaser could just keep it. It is not a bad scroll to just have especially if it is not an ability you would normally be able obtain."
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book shrugs, not as certain that a water breathing scroll will ever be useful again, but also out of money so, to her, it is irrelevant.
Viridian Torr
|
”While I would not likely need it, I will purchase the second scroll if we do not end up using it. “
He motions for blitz to follow to the grates and stay/guard as the party decides next steps.
”I can send in another frog… “
| DM Carbide |
In addition to the grates, there's also a corridor that led east and turned south, sloping down under water. So you have a couple of options.
Corbrae Illynel
|
I was clear I was buying two scrolls, and paying for the second one in totality. I'll substract the money later
It might be a good idea to send a creature as a scout, if you don't mind so, Viridian.
| DM Carbide |
On the other hand, there might be some fish down here....
Grates, or corridor?
Mrs. Book
|
Grates, please
Viridian Torr
|
Viridian will summon the sacrificial frog and send down the open grate
” Who is casting the scroll? This could go poorly for the frog quickly. I am uncertain Blitz will be much help going into the water but can try.“
Mrs. Book
|
"I'd be happy to."
| DM Carbide |
The frog swims down through the open grate and paddles around, apparently unmolested.
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book does not physically have the scroll, but any number of us could cast the spell. Let us just assume it is cast and proceed.
"Me too. Let's move out."
In spite of the spell, Mrs. Book holds her breath as she goes under, taking a tentative breath once under, half expecting to feel that burning choking sensation.
