Mrs. Book |
"Fine with me. Just if it gets to swimming we should turn back and try another wnother way."
Looks like a consensus. I lined out icons up for the trek to the east.
Mrs. Book |
Mrs. Book casts Prestidigitation on Alton.
"That should help a bit."
DM Carbide |
Corbrae, per your question about your Knowledge (Planes) check--you did get information about its special attacks. See my post HERE.
A half-submerged shimmering area on this room’s north wall occasionally spurts out water. Sturdy tables stand about a foot above the water level. Some are stacked with crates, others with bedding. Joseph and Viridian are the only ones who notice a somewhat larger volume of water near the shimmer that isn't moving with the rest of the room's contents. So no one is surprised when it rears up and moves to attack!

Oh, sorry, I should have noticed that

Corbrae tries to answer to Viridian's question, if she manages to get a glimpse of the creature
delays as I'm at the end of our group
Lybram Tendras |
"Master and teacher, lend me your bow" Lybram casts spitual weapon. A shining blue ghostly bow appears in the room a liitle ways away from the water creature and shoots.
bow attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
force dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Lybram then pulls his bow string out and strings his bow. "an unstrung bow is just a stick. Keep it strung and ready my old archery teacher used to say."
Joseph 'Cheese Slicer" Hanlon |
Another one, but bigger!
Joseph fires at it a couple of times.

DM Carbide |
No one except Joseph and Viridian can see the elemental at the moment, but keep the spells and attacks--if it advances, it'll be visible to everyone.

Mrs. Book
Joseph hits it twice with arrows, but only the first one seems to do any damage.
Corbrae, did you want to act or delay?
DM Carbide |
Corbrae is able to squeeze in next to Blitz and see the elemental. It is, as intimated, a water elemental with mostly the same properties as the first (except for being bigger, stronger, and somewhat resistant to all physical/weapon attacks.
it took a Move action to get there. Do you want to do anything else?
Corbrae Illynel |
The bardess casts a spell to help her in the incoming fight
Cast Mirror image for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 images
2 more Corbraes appears at the woman side, who smirks

Corbrae is beside herself (and beside herself). The elemental advances, promptly taking a shot from Lybram's spell and glowing from Alton's spell (although it doesn't seem to have been blinded). However, it might as well have been, as a massive pseudopod misses Joseph cleanly.
Viridian and Mrs. Book to go!
Large Water Elemental: AC 18 T ? FF ? HP taken: 8
Viridian Torr |
Viridian watches as the undulating beast rushes forward but fortunately misses with its first mighty swing.
Are we going to fight this thing or fall back?
The druid holds on sending the wolf forward or back depending on the planned actions of Ms. Book and especially Joseph.
Delays until Joseph gets ready, and then will advance or retreat since we are bunched up too much in the hall.
Mrs. Book |
"I think we can take it, but then let's discuss strategy after the battle. If we are going to recoup I'll use my acid arrow spell on it next."
But for now she just nails it with a magic missile from her wand.
mm damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Mrs. Book |
After Virician gives the command she also retreats, though not completely, as she wants to keep the elemental in view in case the others do not follow suit (which seems far more likely).
(Actions were to launch a magic missile, then move 20', which is 10' in rough terrain)
DM Carbide |
After plinking the elemental, Mrs. Book books.

Seeing nowhere safe to stand Joseph moves behind the creature.
Double move at half speed. Provoking an aoe AC 20.

Fine, lets fight.
Corbrae advances toward the elemental, and strikes with her sword.

Mrs. Book-
Alton and Lybram both miss. Joseph slips past the elemental, its attack of opportunity missing. Viridian casts a spell, while Blitz bits the creature and tears loose a mouthful of water. Corbrae sloshes forward and cuts at the elemental, hitting it for a little bit of damage. Then it acts.
One massive watery fist hits the bard like a tidal wave. Corbrae, take 19 HP. The other attack misses Blitz.
Mrs. Book can act!

PA slam vs. Blitz: 1d20 ⇒ 8
PA slam damage to Corbrae: 1d8 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 6 = 19
Large Water Elemental: AC 18 T ? FF ? HP taken: 17
Mrs. Book |
Seeing that nobody retreated (as expected), Mrs. Book advances and launches a an acid arrow instead.
acid arrow damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
damage next round unless neutralized, though the rules do no explain how that is done.
acid arrow damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
DM Carbide |
That spell requires an RTA, I think.
Mrs. Book |
to hit touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
DM Carbide |
That'll hit. One other question: what's the extra +2 damage from?
Mrs. Book |
Did I get that wrong too? Thought it was like two magic missiles, but apparently not. So just 2 points of damage this round. First time I've used the spell :(
DM Carbide |
Thanks for the reminder!
The elemental annihilates one of the illusory bards, and Mrs. Book's spell does the creature some damage.

Viridian will order Blitz to attack while he awaits if there is any buffing (song/bless/aid), but otherwise swings at the elemental with his empowered staff.
We can do this! as Blitz moves into flank position, not realizing it will not help.
