Please reduce the atk and damage numbers above. I misremembered Lybram strength as 16 when it is 15. Sorry.
"Let's get this thing down quickly."

DM Carbide |

Round 4 (ongoing):

Joseph-delaying
Alton-acted
Mrs. Book-delaying
Undine-acted
Crab-acted
Lybram-acted

Lybram hits the crab solidly!
Corbrae, Viridian, and Blitz?
Undine: AC 15 T 11 FF 15 HP taken: 15
Crab: AC 23 T ? FF ? HP taken: 18

![]() |

Blitz goes down from the nasty crab pinch
Viridian gasps as the wolf yelps, despite being blinded, he knows it was not good.
”hold on,Blitz!!! “
Unable to attack effectively, he tags the wolf with his cure wand.
Clw : 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 bleh. Still -1 hp
up to GM if miss. Chance or AOo . Does blitz get save vs blind if unconscious?
Viridian blinks will : 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 vs blind
will : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
.

DM Carbide |

Sure, he can have a save. Viridian has no miss chance with the CLW.

DM Carbide |

As Blitz' eyes close, he blinks away the fleck of conjured glitter. When he wakes up he'll be able to see normally.
Round 5:
Initiative order
Joseph-
Alton
Mrs. Book-delaying
Undine
Crab
Lybram
Corbrae
Viridian (blind)/Blitz (unconscious)
Joseph, Alton, and Mrs. Book can act! The undine is currently out of sight.

![]() |

Mrs. Book redirects her targetting to the Crab and lets loos with a pair of (underwhelming) missiles at the crab.
magic missile damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

![]() |

With no clear shot or flank Joseph sprays and prays.
shot #1: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 11 - 2 - 4 = 9
piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
shot #2: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 2 - 4 = 24
piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

DM Carbide |

By dint of superlative skill (the way he'll report it) or by great good fortune (what the rest of the party will say), Joseph makes the crab duck with his first shot and then puts his second arrow deep into its body. It's still hanging in there, though...right up until Mrs. Book's force missiles slam into it. At the twin impacts it glows brightly and comes apart, a myriad glowing motes forming into the shape of a strange rune before the light dies away and it's gone.
Out of combat!

![]() |

Know PLanes: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 = 15
Oh! It thought it was a summoned monster, but not really. This is what is called an eidolon, a creature linked to a particular spellcaster called a "summoner". It is bound to the undine, and can come back, after a time, as long as the undine is alive. So we should track that undine and stop him attacking us.

![]() |

"That explains why it was so powerful. Before we give chase we need to heal the wounded."

![]() |

Lybram, still bleeding from several places, pulls out a wand. "You get Blitz. I'll help you. This won't hurt a bit, might tingle though."
clw wand charge on Viridian: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"And Madam Corbrae."
2x clw charges: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10
"Then me."
3x clw charges: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 8, 5) + 3 = 23
"Now, who needs more?"

![]() |

Mrs. Book stands idly by, having a wand, fondly called a heal stick by many, but only a 50% chance or so of making it work each time. And since she spent most of the battle time on the stairs, she took no injuries.
"We stumbled on the two of them by surprise this time. Next time I expect there will be more resistance. Any preparations we should make? With all this water, it sure would be nice to be able to hold your breath or breath under water. I'm guessing my spells will not work all that well if I'm being drowned."
@ GM Carbide
I have a "Scroll of Alter Self, scribed on something, like wood, that would be usable underwater". At least that is what I put on my character sheet. But I don't know if that is allowed. I figured that if there were underwater spell casters, there would be underwater scrolls and perhaps, since they are magical, all scrolls are usable underwater. But this is PFS Core so it is probably not allowed to have scrolls made of wood. Let me know so I can plan accordingly.

DM Carbide |

We generally skip over the effects of water on gear, so I'm good with it here. Now, if you can't breathe underwater you'll have a hard time casting from the scroll.

![]() |

Viridian can wildshape into a swimming creature, but will not be able to cast once he does...
The wolf looks happier and wags its tail as it is fully healed from the two different wands.
Looking into the water. So what are we dealing with here? I can summon something into the water, or swim after it. But do not want to go it alone if things turn ugly.

![]() |

"So, do we go back and get something that will help? Of course if we do that crab thing will be back. And I do not have all that much money."

![]() |

"I am no fish. But I can probably walk through a short area. How deep is the water? Maybe we can just wade through until we find dry land again"
Lybram thinks a bit.
"Water breathing is possible with a spell. We could possibly split itvbetween two people. We could get it in town, maybe? How is the spellcasting services in town?"
Lybram thinks some more.
"We could send a buddy team to scout with message on them?"

DM Carbide |

The stairs lead down into a wide hallway filled with murky water. There are two hallways branching off to the south, and one leading east (note map orientation). Probes with a staff show that the water is about two feet deep.

![]() |

I vote to continue on. I do not like the idea of allowing that crab thing to respawn, though it may anyway I suppose.

![]() |

"Agreed, we should follow the Undine until we can't follow the Undine."
Lybram begins waterproofing himself and his equipment.
He unstings his bow and uses it to probe for holes ahead of his path.
"After you, Joseph. After you Viridian and Blitz."
Any healing still needed?

![]() |

Joseph looks around for arrows during the healing. On discovering the water is shallow he shrugs.
"We can always walk back if it gets too deep."
I hope we don't have to look up underwater combat. I don't have a trident.

![]() |

"OK, its decided, we advance. Shall we head east to the end of the corridor taking a peek down each junction?"

DM Carbide |

Away from the Spire core, the corridor is lit by luminescent corals and algae, which provide illumination equivalent to candlelight.
Is anyone going to use additional light sources?

![]() |

Lybram, noticing he can't see very well with the light fading, he casts light on his shield. Being in the middle of the group it should help everyone with vision.
"Hope you don't mind, I am not able to see without this."

![]() |

Is anyone going to use additional light sources?
Mrs. Book has a sunrod going on a chain around her neck.

DM Carbide |

The party wades through the murky, thigh-deep (for everyone except Alton) water. On reaching the first branch south, Joseph and Viridian peer in. The silty water in this flooded room reeks of shellfish. Bones and other refuse are piled up in the southwest corner. Hundreds of toad-sized crabs clamber about the heap, skittering over top of each other. Viridian doesn't notice much besides that, but Blitz starts whining. Alerted, Joseph realizes that there are a lot more crabs under the water, churning it up, and it looks like many of them are swimming towards the party.

![]() |

Mrs. Book hurries in front of everyone and casts a DC 16 Color Spray on them.
"Hungry little buggers, I'm guessing."

DM Carbide |

I missed mentioning that the water is difficult terrain, but Mrs. Book can still reach the entry to the room.
Round 1 (ongoing):

A wave of polychromatic light washes over the swimming crabs, but has no apparent effect.
Joseph, Corbrae, Viridian, & Blitz to go!

![]() |

Know nature: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12
All I know is that crabs taste good. But there's way too much of them, and it seems THEY want to eat US this time. Usually, fire or area spells are used against swarms, I hope you have some alchemic fire, even if I'm not sure it will work on water, but that's all we got
The bardess uncork a flask of said alchemic fire and throw it into the swarm
Throw vs AC5: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
dmg, Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 4

![]() |

” By the Green, swarms of rats or even spiders I have heard. But swarms of crabs is new to me. “
He and blitz will move east? (up) to a point where he can still see blob and cast flaming sphere( not sure how that interaction with water but trying to hit part of swarm)
Fire: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) = 11 dc16 reflex

DM Carbide |

Viridian, are you going to attempt a Knowledge (Nature) check to learn more about the swarm?

DM Carbide |

Round 1 (ongoing):
Corbrae wades forward and hurls a flask of alchemist's fire at the likely location of the swarm, but it fails to ignite when it shatters under the water. Viridian's spell, however, creates a great cloud of steam when it hits the water, and in its wake the bodies of several hundred parboiled crabs float to the surface.
Joseph?

![]() |

Lybram would have gone and gotten Li'le Fella to follow him. As a new player using an animal companion, I apologize for not mentioning it. I will try and be better at his management.
"What in the devil?" "Sounds like a waterfall."

![]() |

"Acid? Yes actually."
Joseph pulls out some acid and tosses it at the swarm.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
acid damage including point blank: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
sneak?: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7

DM Carbide |

Unfortunately, as a swarm the crabs are immune to sneak attack.
Round 1 (ongoing):
Joseph's acid kills a few more crabs. Then the remaining crustaceans swim up and over Joseph, Mrs. Book, and Corbrae. Those three take 7 HP and have to make a DC 14 Fort save or be nauseated for the next round.
Alton, Lybram, and L'il Fella can act!

![]() |

Lybram steps forward and casts a spell attempting to catch any crabs in the room. "Blast them with your noise, oh creator."
Casts sound burst on the room center.
dmg sonic: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Dc15 fort or stunned for one round (if possible for swarms)

![]() |

fort save vs. distraction, Nausea: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

DM Carbide |

sorry am I swimming?
No. As stated above, the water is two feet deep, so Alton is wading slowly.

![]() |

Alton draws an alchemist fire and waits.
"Can someone use this? I can't see the crabs!"
ready to throw if I can see the crabs or hand it off? If I can

![]() |

Mrs. Book glances back at Alton.
"We already tried that. It does not work on them since they are under water. You have any acid?"
