I wasn't clear. The flaming sphere spell is still active--it just made a lot of steam when it hit the water over the swarm.
| DM Carbide |
A few more crabs bob to the surface in the wake of Lybram's attack spell. Alton delays, unable to see anything.

Joseph, Mrs. Book, and Corbrae are up!
Crab swarm: AC ? T 16 FF 16 HP taken: 19
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book books it out of there and pulls out an acid flask.
Corbrae Illynel
|
I'm not sure that will work, but maybe a Sleep spell is worth trying..
Would a Spellcraft tell me if that spell could work against the swarm? If so here's my roll Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
| DM Carbide |
The Knowledge (Nature) check would have told you that, but you didn't make it. On the other hand, Corbrae did see that Mrs. Book's color spray didn't seem to have any effect on the swarm, which would suggest that either the swarm saved, it's immune to mind-affecting magic, or it's too high a level for the spell to work. In either of the last two cases a sleep spell wouldn't touch it. You can draw your own conclusions from that.
Mrs. Book
|
Her voice taking on the school-marm tone, she explains, "Not really. Not as long as they stay beneath the surface of the water. Just grab some acid. If you don't have any grab one from your neighbor."
Mrs. Book is, of course, assuming others would be as well prepared as she.
Lybram Tendras
|
"Lead them towards the stairs, maybe we can lure them onto dry land." "Then we have more options."
Lybram yells out.
"I got 2 vials of acid, but thats it."

Mrs. Book and Joseph retreat from the hungry crabs, while Corbrae ponders.
Corbrae and Viridian & Blitz to go!
| DM Carbide |
Remember that the water in the hall makes it Difficult terrain.
Mrs. Book
|
Now they head for the stairs. Had to wait until I was on the other side. Ugh.
| DM Carbide |
This time, the water seems to give the crabs more protection from Viridian's spell--perhaps the ones closest to the surface died in the first impact.
To clarify, is the party splitting east and west, or going back the way they came from? There is no visible surface over the water to the east.
Mrs. Book
|
I figured we are headed back towards dry land, which is on the stairs we entered from. Those of us that get there first will need to make room or the laggers might not be able to make it on the stairs and will suffer additional attacks.
| DM Carbide |
OK, I've arranged the party retreating towards the entrance. Since Lybram and Alton haven't acted yet this round, they're the only ones still in the water when the crabs emerge from the room.

Realizing the difficulty of facing the hungry creatures in the water, Joseph, Mrs. Book, Corbrae, Viridian, and Blitz retreat. The crabs follow, pausing when they find a tasty human and halfling in the way. Alton and Lybram, take 9 HP from the swarm, and a DC 14 Fort save or nauseated for this round.
Alton and Lybram can act!
Lybram Tendras
|
Lybram tries to push through the crabs.
fort save vs distraction: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
But all he can do is move away.
| DM Carbide |
Lybram and Alton are able to get out of the water despite the horrible feeling of the crabs crawling over them.

Mrs. Book takes out her wand of CLW and attempts to heal some of the crab pinches.
UMD: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6, which leaves her with the smallest of wounds.
| DM Carbide |
If Lybram lets you it's a move action to take it and a move action to move.
Lybram Tendras
|
Lybram still sick, points at his belt where 2 acid vials hang. He does not seem to be able to talk, but seems will to let Joseph take one.
Not sure the action economy, but lybram is willing to let others use his acid as mentioned before.

Mrs. Book retreats and cures herself, Joseph retreats and readies an acid flask, and Viridian and Blitz retreat while the druid sends his flaming sphere at the swarm. The latter results in more steam, but no visible crab bodies.
Corbrae?
| DM Carbide |
They're still in the water.
Corbrae Illynel
|
In a desperate move, Corbrae forages in her haversack, takes one of her daily ration of food, and breaks it in little bits to throw the crabs out of their tracks

"Get away from the water, everyone!"
Lybram Tendras
|
"You don't have to tell me twice."
Lybram hustles out of the area adjacent to the crabs.
"Heel, Li'le Fella. Stay close"
Handle animal to heel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
I never planned on handle animal. But I guess Li'le Fella would do whatever the gm wants. I will pour ranks in it at 5th level.
| DM Carbide |
Li'le Fella doesn't want to go near the water if Lybram isn't there.
Lybram Tendras
|
Li'le Fella not really listening to Lybram but seeing him move back decides they are leaving and moves to the stairs. He stops to look back to see in Lybram is coming and not seeing him behind him, stops confused.

Mrs. Book drops her acid flask neatly in the middle of the swarm and kills a bunch of them, while Joseph overshoots and smashes his flask against the wall. Some of the acid still drips into the water, though, killing a few more crabs. Viridian's spell wipes out a vast swathe of them. There are still barely enough left to be dangerous, though.
Corbrae?
Miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Crab swarm: AC ? T 16 FF 16 HP taken: 36
Lybram Tendras
|
"That was quick thinking with the rations, Corbrae. Try fire again, a direct hit may be more effective."
Lybram seems generally at a lose as to how to finish this crab clump off.
"Or, I got one more acid." "It's on my belt. Take it. You have the better shot."
| DM Carbide |
Corbrae's acid flask is on target, and destroys the cohesion of the swarm.
Out of combat!
Mrs. Book
|
"That's more like it! I wonder what that Undine has in store for us now."
Corbrae Illynel
|
No more crabs, I hope. Next time we go back at town, Everyone should buy two flasks of acid and two vials of alchemic fire. We might encounter other swarms later. We escaped these crabs in a pinch.
Lybram Tendras
|
"Sound advise there."
Lybram looks at the crab soup below, "Now what? Chase the undine through the water hall or strike out a new way and deal with him if he shows up later?
Lybram points at the passage/door to the East. "I think he is long gone and it is dry this way. I vote East."
Mrs. Book
|
"Stick to the shallow water when we can. Sounds prudent."
Mrs. Book waves on the leaders to lead the way.
Viridian Torr
|
”By the Green, that was much more difficult than expected. Anyone still injured? “
Viridian will motion Blitz to follow and scans ahead as they head east
