As the party heads east, the next south door leads to a room with rather clearer water in it--there seems to be a waterfall on the south end of the room, and a passage leading east.
Tapping ahead as the party continues east, it becomes apparent that the passage floor has a flight of stairs leading down into deeper water, leveling off at a depth of 5 feet (which puts Alton into a difficult situation). The passage turns south after about fifteen feet.

Viridian deduces that there's nothing natural about the water (apart from it being water); it likely comes from the Elemental Plane of Water in some way that probably involves the magic of the Spire core.
The druid also notices something odd about the movement of the water in one spot in the room--almost as if part of it was moving against the current.
Mrs. Book quickly finds herself with a cat on her head as Alton's familiar climbs the tallest thing nearby to get away from the wet.

Unfortunately, wet socks (and shoes, and robes, and trousers...) are the order of the day...apart from the entryway, every part of this level the party has seen is under at least two feet of water.
Let me recap the situation as I understand it: the party has glanced into the crab room but not explored it. Viridian thought he saw something unusual about the water in one part of the room with the waterfall at its south end. The passage due east of the entryway has a short flight of stairs that ends in a stretch of floor around five feet underwater. Given that, where are you going?

Just to remind everyone, the water is Difficult terrain (but unlike the first level, you can see).
As Viridian approaches the spot where he thought he saw something odd about the water, two things happen: first, he notices that there's a distinct current flowing south, and he figures that if he gets too close to the opening to the south he might get drawn in. Second, some of the water mounds up in front of him, shaping itself into a vaguely humanoid form! It looks like it's winding up to strike the druid.

No problem--the layout here is confusing, and it more than makes up for the previous level in challenges.
