looking good, let me know when its all done and Ill give it the full look over and add to list of compleated

Unfortunately, I need sleep, so I won't get to links until tomorrow.

How you want to handle adding extra spells to my spellbook will help determine how much money I have to spend, so shopping will have to wait until you have a chance to rule on that.

sleep is good, ya have days yet so no rush
extra spells come from your 100,000 starting cash, costs on d20 etc.
Full price

Thank you for that but my confusion comes from not knowing under what circumstances I would be learning the spells. The rules have a set cost to record new spells and if there are spellbooks in the archive that I can access to learn new spells then I can pay the cost to add them and be done with it. If I don’t have access to a free resource like that then than I would either have to buy scrolls to learn them from (which could be costly since that consumes the scroll) or I have to pay someone (or someplace) to let me use their spellbook to learn it (which I think usually costs the same price as hiring someone to cast it, but I can’t remember if that’s in the rules somewhere or if it was home rule my TT group used).

So I guess really my question should have been: aside from the cost of actually adding a spell to my spellbook, how much will it cost me to learn a new spell?

d20pfsrd wrote:

In most cases, wizards charge a fee for the privilege of copying spells from their spellbooks. This fee is usually equal to half the cost to write the spell into a spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). Rare and unique spells might cost significantly more.

That fulls under Independent Research which falls foul of my NO CRAFTING before the game rule.

I'm sorry but you're going to have to pay for a scroll and I copy them into your spell book. I will however say you Auto copy it.

Fixed the feats (took Combat Expertise and Deadly Agility) and am working on the 10minute background stuff now

I am just going to point out that our GM asked us not to go too crazy on the optimisation. Dazing Spell is pretty much the pinnacle of obnoxiously powerful caster feats. It really makes whole swathes of the game irrelevant.

Think hard, like I said I will be picking 4 evenly balanced PCs
So I think it would help if you looked at the other aplcants ALTs
and ask yourself, Will may mini-maxed uber PC take all the fun out of the game for the other players.

yerr me thinks that may be to much.

You can daze creatures with the power of your spells. Benefit: You can modify a spell to daze a creature damaged by the spell. When a creature takes damage from this spell, they become dazed for a number of rounds equal to the original level of the spell.

Not bad!

We would still apply the ability score advancements every four levels, right?

Hey, I just want to let you know that I'm planning on submitting a dwarf Shifter for this. The crunch is done except for magic gear, and then I'll wrap up the 10-minute background.

Sorry, I had no idea that dazing spell was considered problematic. I just picked it because it seemed like such a good thematic fit for a caster who uses so much electricity. I can switch it out without any problem, although I would like to point out that the ability that grants me that feat (greater metamagic knowledge) lets me switch which metamagic feat I get from it each morning (so if I took dazing and it proved too powerful I could always switch it out for something less bothersome the next day).

Out of curiosity (and since tone is hard to convey by text please let me be clear that this is not an argument in favor of the feat but legitimate curiosity), what makes it so obnoxiously powerful? Fireball seems like the maybe the spell that would benefit most from it (since it can potentially hit a whole bunch of targets) but is dazing a crowd for 3 rounds really that much more effective than something like circle of death that will just flat out kill many of them (with a higher save DC)? Once you get into fourth level spells the point of comparison switches to mass hold person and, I don't know, something like ball lightning would let you try to daze a couple people each round, and force them to make multiple saves against it if you keep targeting them (which is pretty nasty) but is that really better than forcing everyone in a 30' area to make a (higher DC) save or be paralyzed for up to 16 rounds? Probably I'm just overlooking something obvious but it doesn't really seem like something that would make a lot of stuff irrelevant?

I've just not been able to get a full concept together. I'm going to step back from applying. Thanks for the opportunity and good luck to everyone.

I've always figured a +3 metamagic and a use of a feat to balance out things quite nicely. Where it gets nasty is usually people will take the metamagic master stuff and do it two levels earlier and then it gets way overpowered. In its natural state, and I could be wrong, I don't see it as overpowering more than any other metamagic with the right spell used.

Apparently the image I used was a bad link, try this.

@ES: The things you're comparing dazing spell to have more limitations than dazing on a damaging spell. Circle of death has a 9 HD limit, many creatures are immune to it and it has an expensive material component. Mass hold person only affects humanoids and has a save to recover every round. Even without trying you're able to throw out dazing persistent lightning bolts from a 4th level spell slot (due to spell perfection & magical lineage) which affects anything not immune to electricity, takes those failing the save out of the combat (3 rounds = eternity) and has the equivalent of the save DC of a level 6-7 spell. Optimised further it gets scary.

Then there's the lived experience of a bunch of people who say dazing spell is overpowered. Seriously it is.

Oo I like the Image

I think I’m going to bow out too. The GM clearly has a fairly specific power level in mind and after two tries it seems that I’m just not any good at finding that sweet spot he’s looking for. Best of luck to the other applicants.

Lucky and Giant, thank you for letting me know, sorry to see you go, but best of luck in future gaming

More info about The Lady,

CATS, her realm is a sanctuary for Cats, most of all akind of winged Cat called A Felindro which she has the most fondest of loves for. One could even say they are her Animale.

So if you want a Familiar from The Ladys realm, you can have a Felindro, Stats same as cat + Flying [good] Fly Skill +4 + Hover feat

Why do this to me? Now I want a familiar. :p Are they intelligent? Are they treated like house cats? Adoptable? Cost?

I have a question. Are there mobile communication devices in common use? I could see my pc as having one.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So don’t give up on the rest of us yet, GM_Panic,

Since we had two weeks to get the character prepped and my time was a little limited because of the Holiday. I decided to focus on the hardest part of your request. Finding the pictures for my character and his backstory.

For some reason, I picture them in my head and can’t quite find the right images and I’m too lazy to draw them myself. I went looking around and these are the best I can find. So, with the numbers I rolled, I will be presenting an Arcanist, who favors blasting, but isn’t above whipping out a pistol and shooting folks. He is originally from an alt-earth world where magic and technology are beginning to meld.

He will be transported out of his world during the American Civil war. Which is being fought between the The necrotic south and the Steampunk north. The conflicts came to a head between the two halves of the Nation after the election of Vampire slayer, Abraham Lincoln Who ran on the platform of limiting necromancy and the use of human corpses as labor. At that time the south attempted to secede from the Union.

He will be raised by His uncle in Richmond Virginia after his mom and dad died in a mysterious accident in their home in Baltimore.

If your class gives you a familiar, yes you can have a Felindro, same has a house +the fly I posted, and they get an int bust from being your familiar I believe.

Arcane Trickster??

Working on skills. Since we are dealing with a multiverse instead of just a planet; will their be other skills like: Drive or Fly vehicles, computers, technology, medicine, 'the multiverse' etc.?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That is a good point, Robert.

I recommend if your PC has Tech in its background

You take the feat / which is a must if you want your PC to know tech

Technologist

You are familiar with the basic mechanics of technology.
Benefit: You are considered to be trained in any skill used against a technology-based subject. If the skill in question requires training to use even against non-technological subjects, you must still have ranks in that skill in order to gain the benefit of Technologist.
Normal: You treat all skill checks made against technology as if they were untrained skill checks. This may mean that you cannot attempt certain skill checks, even if you possess ranks in the skill in question

Then carfting
Craft wise let's keep it simple
Feats such as

Craft Technological Item
You can craft technological gear and items.
Prerequisite(s): Technologist, Craft (mechanical) 5 ranks, Knowledge (engineering) 5 ranks
Benefit: You can create technological gear. Creating a piece of technological gear takes 1 day for every 1,000 gp in the item’s price. To create the object, you must use up raw materials costing half of this total price.
*** You can also repair a broken technological item if it is one that you could make. Doing so costs half the raw materials and half the time it would take to craft that item from scratch.***

Craft Technological Arms and Armor
You can build technological weapons and armor.
Prerequisite(s): Technologist, Craft (mechanical) 7 ranks, Knowledge (engineering) 7 ranks
Benefit: You can create technological weapons or armor. Creating a technological weapon or suit of armor takes 1 day for every 1,000 gp in the item’s price. To create the object, you must use up raw materials costing half of this total price.
***You can also repair a broken technological weapon or suit of armor if it is one that you could make. Doing so costs half the raw materials and half the time it would take to craft that item from scratch.***

Craft Cybernetics
You can build cyberware and install it in a creature’s body.
Prerequisite(s): Technologist, Heal 9 ranks, Knowledge (engineering) 9 ranks Benefit: You can create cybernetic items. Creating a cybernetic item takes 1 day for every 1,000 gp in the item’s price. To create the object, you must use up raw materials costing half of this total price.
You can repair a broken cybernetic item if it is one that you could make. Doing so costs half the raw materials and half the time it would take to craft that item from scratch.
You can also install a cybernetic item in a creature’s body.

Craft Skills
Craft (mechanical)
Craft (Advanced weapons and Armor)
etc best see D20 for

Remember there is NO PRE-GAME Crafting

Knowledge Skills
No need to add more, most Tech falls under
Knowledge (engineering)
Other rolls will fall under pre-existing Kn skills.

Drive [let's keep this super simple]

Drive [Tech Ground vehicle]
Drive [Tech Air vehicle]
Drive [Tech Water vehicle]
Drive [Tech Space vehicle]
Drive [Mechs]

That should cover it.

Tech Heal stuff
If you have the Technologist feat, then you can use Healing Tech.
In most cases as a +2 to heal checks.

If you seeing to make tech medicines for say a healer PC
Then this is a must

Feat Craft pharmaceuticals.

Prerequisite(s): Technologist, Heal 9 ranks, Knowledge (nature) 9 ranks
Benefit: You can create any pharmaceutical or poison. Creating a pharmaceutical takes 2 hours if its base price is 250 gp or less; otherwise, the creation of the pharmaceutical takes 1 day for every 1,000 gp in its price. To create the pharmaceutical or poison, you must use up raw materials costing half of this total price.

Last of all
So long as a player has the skills/Weapon Proficiency etc
They have access to

modern-firearms

modern-firearms Proficiency:
Earth-style campaign, guns are everywhere. Early firearms are seen as antiques, and advanced firearms are widespread. Firearms are considered simple weapons, and the gunslinger loses the gunsmith class feature and instead gains the gun training class feature at 1st level.

technological-weapons

technological-weapons Proficiency:
This entry lists whether the weapon is simple, martial, or exotic. If an existing weapon proficiency allows the new weapon’s use, that weapon proficiency is listed in parentheses. Note that Exotic Weapon Proficiency (heavy weaponry) works similarly to Exotic Weapon Proficiency (firearms) in that it allows access to a wide range of similar weapons.

Gotta say, I'm having a hard time finding useful magic items that would still be in effect while wild-shaped (a polymorph effect, which means I can't "activate" an item that's melded to me) and that don't have the straight numerical bonuses negated by ABP.

yep its hard, but if I don't limit it, things like, I'm a dragon with armor on and a holy sword, gets a bit power silly.

No, I get it. It's just a lot to comb through.

Ready. I might tinker with the background a bit more, but the stats are done.

I will be closing Recurtemnt at 12:00 noon GMT on 10/06/2021
Then I will take 2 days to go over offered PCs and make my pick known here on Sat/12/06/2021

Man GM_Panic, I would really love to jump in this game with you, and I really like the character background that I was working on. But I started to look at the Arcanist class, which, in my mind, would be the best class for the stats I rolled.

I've not played an arcane caster higher than third level and I've never played an arcanist. I generally prefer to play a character and organically learn how they function. I was using a Guide to try and figure it out, but I don't think it's my cup of tea.

Sadly, I'm going to remove myself from the application process. I loved the game you GM'd for Sariel and will be reading along with this one. Thanks for running the game, we players really do appreciate it, good luck and good gaming all.

Thanks, Robert, for letting me know, sorry to see you drop but I fully understand. A few players have found it hard, Level 16 with my house rules is not easy.

No "Alternate Class features"; does that mean no bloodline mutations?

Also you wrote "guns are everywhere" =
"Guns Everywhere: Guns are commonplace. Early firearms are seen as antiques, and advanced firearms are widespread. Firearms are simple weapons, and early firearms, advanced guns, and their ammunition are bought or crafted for 10% of the cost listed in this chapter. Hi again,

I've done most of the work for my elven Witch : you will find the alias here Hypatia Mouseion a.k.a. Madam Tia

Still missing is her spellbook and about half the background. I also still have 15 000 GP left to spend. I will also reorganize the character sheet for skills and spells for ease of use.

If any of you see anything game breaking, please tell me and I will alter the character accordingly.

[No "Alternate Class features"; does that mean no bloodline mutations?

Yes that means NO "bloodline mutations"

Firearms are simple weapons,

Yes on 'The Lady' plane 'Firearms' are simple weapons,
NOT tech weapons, you need feats to use them

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

Stratton was a mage. She was kind. She was loyal. And she was thrilled to be accepted onto the Beta 4 team.

Months before, an odd man had had come to her home.

Her Clockwork servants showed him into the study. Stratton was given a proposition.

Simply, Grudge says, You give us a working product and soon after; you will make it onto a Team.

She felt naughty, but she really wanted to be a Collector.

[Years Later]

Stratton toils away in her tower's lab. She sees something out of the corner of her eye. A humanoid form swings silently in through an opened window. Stratton panics and backs away.

Protect! she commands. Two clockwork warriors spring into action. They advance with blades whirling. The figure springs up and off their brass shoulders, twisting and turning away from their weapons.

The Infiltrator throws a force wall, between the warriors and herself. She tosses powder into Stratton's face. Stratton seizes. She falls down like a ragdoll.

The Infiltrator sits on her chest, face to face. It's not personal. She covers her face with her hands.

The Infiltrator casts a spell to unravel the dead flesh and change her identity.

Recorporeal Incarnation; Permanency

Wizard[universalist] 5/ Rogue 1/ Arcane Trickster 10

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

She's the world's greatest infiltrator.

I have a good idea of who she is.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

Infiltrate Beta 4 and insure that the team makes it to Alpha 9.

Building up lore for the Syndicate.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

The Infiltrator thinks she has been sent to burgle the Archive.

Those that sent her are in a political struggle the top brass. A theft is meant to make them look weak and replaceable

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

As she is The Infiltrator. She has no friends, only those who are aligned to her purpose.

She has a handler from the Syndicate that she deals with. She only know him as Grudge. He brings her lucrative tasks and intelligence information that benefit Her and The Syndicate.

CucumberTree I want you to read very carefully my previous posts on being picked within a **balanced power level and themed group**.

NOTE: Balanced and not Mini Maxed.

Think to yourself, while looking at the other applicants,

"Is my PC in the same power level and range as them?"

Because if you get a no to that, then you know you're on the wrong build track and you need to rethink.

Also, I did make this clear, you need to place all that in an ALT with an image please, Then link to that alt or post with it here.

Last of all,backstory
You have just basically told me you're going to make an undead spy who is anti-team Lady, with permanent magic powers and no mates. There is no way you're going to fool a god-like THE LADY (Kn Domain) with only 16th level magic. Your PC would have been court, what was done to her unraveled, memories given back of all the evil things done to her by her evil owners and controllers. Then offered a place on Team Lady. Because that is how THE LADY works, she recruits the weapons others send to attack her and sends them right back at them.

Thanks, GM Panic

I thought a brooding god, might not care about politics and other things. Poor assumption on my part. As far a power level... I was sure a vanilla Arcane Trickster would be in line. Again a bad assumption on my part.

Thanks for reading my proposal.

That's ok,I just did not want you to go down that road and waste time on an idea I would auto-reject for reasons given.

Happy to read over an amended or new PC idea.
