BACKGROUND STORY

Lilandra was born on the planet Brethda, an airy world in a far distant galaxy. Long since unified and peaceful, in each generation one child was chosen. They would become The Chronicler, the repository of all knowledge possessed by their culture, art, history, religion, magic, poetry, all that could be known would be known. The Chronicler was chosen on their 16th birthday, taken to the Great Library and there subject to extensive magical and genetic manipulation to connect them to a vast collective consciousness.

Lilandra, the daughter of an influential and powerful family was horrified when she was told she had been chosen. She ran but once chosen there is no avoiding the choice and not even her family influence could protect her. She underwent the transformation and took her place at the centre of Brethda'n culture.

Brethdan's melded technology and magic and, from their many observatories, studied the cosmos, peering into the depths of space. Lilandra joined with these efforts and together they explored the vast dark regions between the stars. However, as they looked out something else looked in. Exploration invited attention and slowly, over time, malignant entities found their way to the planet and infiltrated many aspects of society. Strange cults grew up, order began to fail and old hatreds reignited. Tensions mounted and civil war erupted across the previously peaceful planet. Driven by a desperate need to defeat their perceived enemies each faction drew on more and more dangerous powers. Eventually one group, driven by the forces from beyond their world, tore open a permanent gate to the Abyss.

As demons poured into the world and all civilisations began to fall Alpha Team 6 arrived to save what they could of Brethda'n culture. One of the things they rescued was Lilandra, as the archive of her peoples knowledge she carries their lives inside her. The Team managed to activate ancient defensive magics buried deep within the planet to seal off all travel to it and trap the demons within but the Gate remains and Brethda is now a terrible, blasted wasteland.

In the aftermath, Lilandra travelled back to the Lady's demiplane and pledged herself to her to repay the debt she owes.

BACKGROUND ELEMENTS

Loss, Lilandra has lost her home, her family and everyone she has ever cared for. She refuses to succumb to grief but has become cold and distant as a result. She works efficiently and clinically but she avoids making new connections out of fear she will lose them again.

Anger Lilandra holds a burning fury against demons. Brethda was a planet strongly connected to the elemental plan of air. Its flying cities with their electro-cannons were helpless against the electrical immunity of demons. She will not suffer a demon to live.

Pain The genetic modifications Lilandra was subjected to allowed her to access the collective consciousness from which her power derives but they leave her in near continual discomfort. As such she has no time for small talk or dithering, she is often perceived as rather brusque.

Power Lilandra's connection gives her access to immense power, power which could be used for good or ill. She see's her role as putting that power to use for the good of others. She gives of her abilities freely and is often found travelling to different parts of the multiverse to help heal plagues, stop rampaging monsters or protect those too weak to protect themselves.

Duty Lilandra feels a great deal of obligation to the Team that saved her and, by extension, to the Lady and her mission. She has committed to their work, and will go to great lengths to protect or save other Team members.

GOALS

Return Home Lilandra hopes one day to return to her Homeworld and close the Abyssal gate.

Dark Forces I would like to see the powers of the Dark Tapestry involved, especially given Lilandra's Dreamed Secrets feat.

SECRETS

Dark Past Lilandra fears that it was her exploration of the Dark Tapestry which drew the attention of malign forces to her world and ultimately doomed it.

Demons! The demons which invaded Brethda were sent by the Demon Lord Abraxus who wants to capture Lilandra as she holds all the knowledge of her people and their magic.

CONNECTED NPCS

Commander Taric, a holy Paladin dedicated to Bahamut and leader of Alpha Team 6 who rescued her from the demonic invasion. The two had a rather tempestuous relationship, while she is grateful that he saved her life they have very different personalities. She finds him overbearing and preachy while he considers her ungrateful, cold and aloof.

Atticus, a Mercane merchant, trader and sorcerer. Atticus travels the multiverse in his magical shop, appearing wherever he might be able to find a customer. The two have traded information, magic, secrets and favours over the years and he was a frequent visitor to Brethda. Atticus is extremely discrete and careful but he is also a complete coward and would likely betray a secret if pressed hard enough. Lilandra has established a Spellcasting Contract with him to ensure mutual trust and understanding.

The Palatine Eye, Chief Librarian of the Golden Lattice, a humble Arbiter Inevitable possessing significant oracular and divinatory abilities. They dwell in the Golden Lattice on Axis where they record, archive and interpret prophecies from across the entire multiverse. They collect knowledge on all kinds of magic and often seek to contract people to collect such information from more difficult to reach locales.

MEMORIES, MANNERISMS AND QUIRKS

Mannerism The process of becoming The Chronicler physically changed Lilandra. Her limbs are long and thin, often seeming to have too many joints for a human. She is tall and appears ungainly until she moves when it is apparent that she possesses a strange and unearthly grace.

Memory Lilandra remembers the moment she gained awareness after the transformation process was complete. For a few seconds she comprehended the entire multiverse, every connection, every being, every thought, until the genetic alterations activated to protect her own mind from imploding. Now she can only achieve such an understanding with the use of numerous magics and only temporarily, lest she be driven insane.

Quirk Lilandra often finds herself speaking in the third person, especially when drawing on her extensive knowledge of all aspects of existence. The more she draws on magic to do so the more alien and less human she appears to be.

Lilandra maintains a number of extended spells on her person. From her own magic she casts extended Fastidiousness, Delay Poison, Life Bubble and Wind Walk at the end of each day. She casts Moment of Prescience at the start of each day. Every month or so she uses her Dreamed Secrets feat to gain access to the Contingency spell and uses it to connect a Breath of Life spell (accessed with Paragon Surge - Expanded Arcana) to trigger if she is ever killed.
