Euda was born and raised in Old Kintargo, a stone’s throw from Olmer’s Smitty. Her mother, Valerica, tends to their cozy home and sometimes sings in taverns or for shows in some of the city’s smaller venues; and her father, Damian, is a professional storyteller (and occasional narrator at various theaters) whose knack for minor illusions always helps draw a crowd. Performing doesn’t always pay well, though, and he picks up shifts at Sallix Salt Works whenever the family needs extra money. They instilled in her a love for music, theater, and the arts from a young age and throughout her childhood the family frequented many of the smaller (and cheaper) venues in the nearby Jarvis End district. But every year for her birthday they would buy her a new theater dress and take her to see that season’s show at the Opera House.
Those early trips to the Opera House are among her favorite memories but they are not purely happy. Her parents feared the way people would react if they discovered her blood had a fiendish taint and were always strict about hiding her tail, but they were especially careful on nights out; a trip to the Opera House always meant binding her tail to her leg- an experience she found painful and shameful. In her teen years, she joined a theater company and began performing small parts in small shows, where she discovered she shared her father’s gift for minor illusions (though, in order to avoid drawing any unwanted attention to her nature, she mostly hides that power). She became fast friends with several other young hopefuls, despite receiving some teasing for her compulsive orderliness, and when one of them (Terpin Burrows, a young halfling man who specializes in portraying children) invited her to a secret meeting where she could learn to let go of her uptightness, she was excited to give it a try. The meeting, to her surprise, was to learn about the tenets of Arshea, an Empyreal Lord whose views are very much at odds with those of house Thrune (and her parents), and she found them very enticing. After several such gatherings she was pleased to attend an actual worship service, until everyone began removing their clothes. Fear gripped her heart as a lifetime of her parents’ warnings against revealing her tail rang in her head. She might have fled if it hadn’t been for Lina Korvin, a lovely Chelish girl who not only assured her that all secrets were safe in that space but showed her tail great affection once she revealed it.
The two were nearly inseparable afterwards: meeting at cafes for coffee every morning, confiding in one another about dates they’d been on and boys they were interested in, and worshiping together frequently. Lina trusted her with the secret that she’d joined a group called the Silver Ravens that was quietly working against the government, and was the first person Euda raced to tell when she learned she’d been cast in next season’s run of Huntress of Heroes at the Opera House. When news came that the show had been canceled by the newly arrived Barzillai Thrune, she was devastated and sought out Lina, but she could not find her friend anywhere. It’s been a week now and—though she keeps trying to assure herself that Lina is likely doing clandestine work with the Silver Ravens—her concern for her friend’s wellbeing is growing almost as quickly as her resentment towards the overstepping, tyrannical, Thrune government.
