I've finally decided to throw my hat in the ring as a GM. I present to you Jade Regent, an adventure where you (eventually) travel across the edge of the world to uncover ancient legacy in the far east.
The campaign introduce a number of NPCs that the characters can build relationships with as the story progress. I want to put a greater focus on those relationships with the goal that each PC eventually gets romantically involved with one NPC. As such I'll be selecting four players, one for each NPC. I've also decided to make Koya slightly younger to make such a relationship seem more natural. I'll also allow submissions paired with a gender-swapped version of Koya (Koy) to balance the gender distribution.
• Races: All medium sized races will be allowed, however I will maximum be picking two outside of core and I'm much more likely to pick races with ties to the east from the exotic races.
• Classes: All classes from any Paizo publication will be allowed except for Gunslinger (bolt ace allowed) and unchained summoner (use the normal version).
• Alignments: Characters can be of any Good or Neutral alignment. No evil alignments will be allowed.
• Abilities: 20 Point Buy
• Skills: We will be using the background skills system
• Feats: Any feat from any Paizo publication will be acceptable except Sacred Geometry. We will be using elephant in the room, unchained rogues, swashbucklers and other that get weapon finesse from class can pick an additional combat feat for free.
• Traits: Characters will start with two traits, one of which be from the Jade Regent Player’s Guide. A drawbacks for a third trait will be allowed. The Younger Sibling trait will be allowed, but you have to pick a second campaign trait for a NPC to romance.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with maximum hit points for their class at 1st level. Thereafter characters will roll for their hit points (or accept ½ hit die+1) whichever is greater.
• Starting Gold: Characters will roll for their starting gold (or accept the average for their class) whichever is greater.
• Posting rate: I would greatly prefer if everyone are able to post at least once per day, though I understand that some days things don't work out and absences are ok if they are notified.
• Communication: I'll be creating a discord server for OOC chatter and to easier get hold of each other, but the actual playing will happen on these boards.
Feel free to ask here or PM me if you have any questions. If there's any feature or class that you feel have been hit too hard by errata, I might allow the pre-errata version.
Deadline is tentatively 2nd of August, but I might move it up if I get too many submissions. I'll let you know at least 24 hours in advance if that's the case.

Definitely interested! Loving the "elephant in the room" system being used here as well. Feat taxes are ridiculous sometimes (occasionally logical, but commonly ridiculous).
Still working on a character concept, but I do have a trip-build monk that may fit this nicely.
I love the roleplay aspect of Pathfinder and any adventure where the NPC's and the world are being fleshed out more and are interactive rather than background is right up my alley!
Thanks for doing this!
Question: What is the deadline for submissions?

pippinTook |
It sounds like you're asking applicants to pair their submission PCs with existing NPCs. If that's the case, where could an applicant find out more about the NPCs. If that's not the case, what will happen if two or more PCs set their sights on the same NPC love interest?
This site is very helpful and has the campaign traits as well.
I think having more than one PC going for a specific NPC is just part of the fun. Ultimately, I think the ending goal is one PC for each NPC, but I'd imagine twists and turns in getting there could be rather enjoyable for role play. Totally the GM's call, but I'd vote for letting it happen.

GM Romantic Jade |

As I said in the OP I will be selecting four players, one for each NPC. As such you're competing for selection with others that are going for the same NPC. I'm hoping that I will get enough submissions that it won't be a problem.
The NPCs are described briefly in the player's guide (page 10 and 11). You will learn more about them through the game. But since you've likely known these characters for a while, it could be natural that you knew a bit more. What information are you looking for?

Or what if two PCs go for each other instead! >.> <.<
This sounds like a fun twist. I'm off to look at the Player's Guide.
Edit:
Starting Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) = 17

Is that to say gnomes aren't allowed?
If they are I have Sabs 95% ready to go. Though I suppose she wouldn't be interested in romantic entanglements.

Veltent |

I'd like to put together a younger character, if you think that could be appropriate for the group. Someone between the ages of 14-18, with their NPC relation being Koya (or Koy, depending on how the backstory writing goes. I just want to check to see if that's possible, or if it would be better for the character to be at least 18 (or something) to fit in with the group better.
I really like the idea of a younger character because they could meet this adventure with a little more wide-eyed wonder and there could be some fun interactions between them and Koya/Koy, but let me know.
Right now, I'm thinking a Kitsune Warpriest, following Koya's footsteps, but maybe a bit more rowdy.

If she's not interested in romantic entanglements, then this is not the game for her. I suppose gnomes and halflings are both thematically appropriate, however the size might make for a tight fit. If someone really want to play a gnome or halfling I'll consider it, but they would need to be able to change their size magically.

This is not the game for younger characters. While 16 would work in my country, making stories about such characters could cause problems, as such I think I would prefer if all characters were at least 18. Thanks for bringing up this issue, I wish I thought about it to put it in the OP.

GM Romantic Jade |

I would like to apply with a young samurai with ties to the east.
Thanks, but I do not see which NPC your character is tied to on your sheet nor any connections in your background. Could you please elaborate a bit about your relationship?
Am writing one up with Ameiko. One a little wild for her tastes perhaps?
Also are Alternate Racial features allowed?
I don't think anyone are capable with coming up with someone that is "too wild", but we'll see ;).
Alternate Racial traits are fine of course.

Finishing Gold: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 (Sorry, was going for a different class at first.)
So I remembered that I had a character built to be friends with Ameiko, for the purposes of RotRL. She was a casualty of a laptop crash in 2016. By the time I was back online with a new one, I had lost all my PbP spots, either because the table died or they found new players to step in. Dusting her off and polishing her up to submit to this campaign!
I’ve reworked her crunch to turn her into a Dex based Cavalier to maximize her ability to buff her allies AC with Combat Reflexes and the Bodyguard feat. Traits and class abilities help her make the most of that mechanic. She still has her backstory and description mostly unchanged. A famously talented beauty for a late mother and maybe a bit of a complex that she must have taken after her father instead, whoever he was. Adopted by a circus full of halflings, but she has left them behind for now to strike out on her own. I will dial back her burly description in favor of a more slender, athletic physique to reflect the change in the build.
Tomorrow, I will update the background with fluff concerning her NPC love interest: Sandru Vhiski.
But I have a question first, you said if you took the trait to be a younger sibling, you would have to pick a second trait “for a NPC to romance.” Does that mean the NPC tagged in your trait MUST be the one you romance? Could it possibly be that you are a family friend of Koya and still be interested in her son? He’s part of the family too...
I picked the Caravan Guard trait, assuming that the love interest had to be tagged by the trait but might want to switch it if I had that wrong.
Example intro post from her last game.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Adopted You were adopted and raised by someone not of your actual race, and raised in a society not your own. You may immediately select a race trait from your adoptive parent's race.
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Caravan Guard You recently hired on to Sandru's caravan to serve as a guard, but the job, while it paid well, gave you little chance to scratch the adventuring itch, since the caravan never really ventured into dangerous territory. You understand why Sandru avoided the more dangerous routes, of course, but that didn't help assuage your urge to seek adventure. You've just told Sandru that you're quitting the job in order to try your hand at adventuring - he seemed to understand, and even gave you some good tips on how best to survive potential challenges. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Survival checks, and Survival becomes a class skill for you.
Challenge (Ex) 1/day [Swift Action], you can challenge a foe to combat. Choose one target within sight to challenge. Your melee attacks deal extra damage whenever the attacks are made against the target of the challenge. This extra damage is 1. The cavalier can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day for every three levels beyond 1st, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level. Challenging a foe requires much of the cavalier's concentration. The cavalier takes a -2 penalty to his Armor Class, except against attacks made by the target of his challenge. The challenge remains in effect until the target is dead or unconscious or until the combat ends. Each cavalier's challenge also includes another effect which is listed in the section describing the cavalier's order. his allies receive a +1 circumstance bonus on melee attack rolls against the target of his challenge whenever he is threatening the target. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses.
Halfling
Helpful You see nothing wrong with letting others achieve greatness so long as the job gets done. Whenever you successfully perform an aid another action, you grant your ally a +4 bonus instead of the normal +2.
Mount (Ex) A cavalier gains the service of a loyal and trusty steed to carry him into battle. This mount functions as a druid's animal companion, using the cavalier's level as his effective druid level. The creature must be one that he is capable of riding and is suitable as a mount. A Medium cavalier can select a camel or a horse. A Small cavalier can select a pony or wolf, but can also select a boar or a dog if he is at least 4th level. The GM might approve other animals as suitable mounts. A cavalier does not take an armor check penalty on Ride checks while riding his mount. The mount is always considered combat trained and begins play with Light Armor Proficiency as a bonus feat. A cavalier's mount does not gain the share spells special ability. A cavalier's bond with his mount is strong, with the pair learning to anticipate each other's moods and moves. Should a cavalier's mount die, the cavalier may find another mount to serve him after 1 week of mourning. This new mount does not gain the link, evasion, devotion, or improved evasion special abilities until the next time the cavalier gains a level.
Order (Ex) At 1st level, a cavalier must pledge himself to a specific order. The order grants the cavalier a number of bonuses, class skills, and special abilities. In addition, each order includes a number of edicts that the cavalier must follow. If he violates any of these edicts, he loses the benefits from his order's challenge ability for 24 hours. The violation of an edict is subject to GM interpretation. A cavalier cannot change his order without undertaking a lengthy process to dedicate himself to a new cause. When this choice is made, he immediately loses all of the benefits from his old order. He must then follow the edicts of his new order for one entire level without gaining any benefits from that order. Once accomplished, he gains all of the bonuses from his new order. Note that the names of these orders might vary depending upon the campaign setting or GM's preference.
Order of the Dragon Whenever an order of the dragon cavalier uses Survival to provide food and water for his allies or to protect his allies from harsh weather, he receives a bonus on the check equal to 1/2 his cavalier level (minimum +1).
Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Sworn Defense (Ex) At 1st level, whenever an honor guard issues a challenge, he can select one ally as his ward for the duration of the challenge. Whenever the honor guard is adjacent to his ward, he takes a -1 penalty to Armor Class, and the ward receives a +1 dodge bonus to AC. This modifies the challenge ability.
Tactician (Ex) At 1st level, a cavalier receives a teamwork feat as a bonus feat. He must meet the prerequisites for this feat. As a standard action, the cavalier can grant this feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear him. Allies retain the use of this bonus feat for 3 rounds plus 1 round for every two levels the cavalier possesses. Allies do not need to meet the prerequisites of these bonus feats. The cavalier can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and for every 5 levels thereafter.
Tactician (Ex) As the cavalier class feature, except that a strategist can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and for every four levels thereafter (to a maximum of five times per day at 17th level).

My thought was that it would be more natural for the love interest to be the one from the trait, but I guess it's not necessary. If you wish to have interactions with all the NPCs in your background that's also possible and could make for a more immersive tale. Do note that you get a bonus to your relationship from the campaign trait. I'll allow a wider variety of skills and actions to affect the relationships with the NPCs than just those described in the book.

Drogeney |

Gonna be applying for this one. I've only been in one that died just as we were leaving the town in book one. Thinking a kitsune "maid" *cough*ninja*cough* or oracle or possibly the vishkanya rogue I ran in it the once time I got to play in the campaign.
At work right now so I can't devote myself to it until I get home.

Alright Presenting a work in progress character.
Lykàn Delĩss
This is a char submission from another game that died after a month on another forum but I thought I'll give it a go as I tidy up char sheet.
Should be done by tomorrow.
Starting Gold = 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3) = 13 * 10
130gp
Linked NPC for romantic Interest ---> Ameiko.
Lykàn Delĩss has done several odd jobs here and there but it always brings him back to Sandpoint.
Strange that despite his efforts to leave the town he grew up in, he always seemed to find himself back. Not that the womenfolk minded.
Broad shouldered with a hint of Tien mixed with Varisian and something far more, the man excludes an animistic charm. His distinct reddish hair easily gives him away from a distance unless he covers up which is rare since he seems quite proud of it boasting once that it runs in the men of his family.
With a lupine grin that has charmed many a lady and yet at the same time raised survival instincts in those hostile to him, Lykàn with his trademarked furs has being said to have a bond with wolves and that he was raised by them. Rumors easily laughed off as the man points out his origin in Sandpoint with several locals willing to back him up.
It is rumored that Lykàn was one of the many suitors of Ameiko and like the others rebuffed as he made his advances known. Though somehow he still remained good friends with the woman and learnt her native tongue though it seems that he might have come closer to her tongue then either might have expected as Lykàn disappeared after an argument, only turning up after 2 years and then briefly before he took up another job taking him out of town. This was to be repeated several times.
No one knows what transpired and no one plucked up the courage to ask either.

Ashlana Moran |

This is Twilik's submission. Ashlana Moran, a human cartomancer witch who is best friends with Ameiko but has started to develop an interest in Shalelu.
Ashlana was built for the recent recruitment for this Adventure Path. Thankfully she fit the qualifications still for this one, all I had to was adjust her remaining gold for the new roll!

![]() |

dotting in. Considering redesigning Jiro Fire-Raven, my Tien/Ulfen phoenix-bloodline warrior and passionate warrior-poet.
I think a Samsaran would pair very well with the Phoenix bloodline in underscoring the cycle of rebirth themes. Ameiko Kaijitsu herself would probably be his connected NPC

GM, what do you suppose the price for a holy symbol made of jade would be?
There aren't any rules for Jade in pathfinder unfortunately. I see that it's currently more valuable than gold, however I think 100 GP is a bit too much to pay for a holy symbol, so I'll give it the same price as silver at 25 GP. Does that sound fair?

Sigrún the Magpie |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Sigrun here is a potential match for Sandru. After a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad childhood in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, she came south to work as a caravan guard.
A while back she worked for Sandru during one of his circuits and he made a big impression on her. It's been a while, but Sigrun has come looking for him again to see if the spark is really there.
Sigrun is a half-elf (snowcaster/ulfen) bloodrager (urban/arcane bloodline).
Sigrun would like to include a "missed connections" note in case Sandru will be reading this:
You: Caravan owner/operator who pays a little better than average.
Me: Former employee who didn't talk to you as much as I wanted to, and didn't property secure the oxen for overnight that one time (Sorry!).
Hi! It's been a while since we've seen each other around. I only worked for you a short time, one (too quickly finished) caravan circuit, so you might not remember me. I was the blonde half-elven woman whose Common wasn’t very fluent yet.
You were so friendly and nice. I was struck by your sense of humor and your love of seeing new places and trying new things. You didn’t seem uncomfortable at all that I was taller than you. So many guys are awkward about it, and it was very refreshing you weren't. You talked more than I did; I was still a little embarrassed about my poor Common at that time, so here are some other things about me.
I’m athletic and enjoy the outdoors. I love animals, especially draft beasts. While I’m dedicated to my work and take it seriously, I know how to unwind and have fun! In my free time I enjoy practicing with my favorite weapons, improving my Varisian folk dancing, and storytelling around a warm fire with a few cups of mead. My favorite quiet activity for relaxing is making my own jewelry.
I dislike witches, public speaking, reading, and people who are always critical of others.
I thought at the time there was a spark, maybe something a little more than just friendliness, between us. But I couldn’t figure out how to express it well enough to take a chance until it was too late. I wish I had been braver and said something back then. If you felt something similar, maybe we could meet up again and see where it takes us?
Also a money roll: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3) = 9 Average gold it is then.

Venus Val'Khan |

Cash Money: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5) = 14*10=140 Which is greater than 105 Average for Investigator... Hmm, Well least I can get myself a Sword cane ;P
Question for the DM- Do you allow the Sword cane to be used as a Finesse weapon? It would make sense as the sword cane is essentially a Rapier disguised as a cane. but if you don't allow that then I'll take a Rapier over the sword cane.

Venus Val'Khan |

Wonderful! I just have never used the sword cane before becuase I'm usually playing a Divine caster with a big heavy Str based weapon, Anyways, This is Venus- A Half-Drow Investigator Bookworm and Overall Friend of the local Elf-Ranger I'll be Applying in the hope to get into the one Champaign I've been trying to for years.
He's gonna Be a Bookworm who's Father was a Drow who wooed a Local Barmaid after Falling in love with them, But had Vanished when the half-blood was born, Leaving him and his mother in sandport. Thankfully he had left them with alot of money(being an adventurer and all) and they lived well off for the most part, But the Half-blood Gree up learning How to live from his mother as well as Becoming quite the Bookworm and often spending his time in local Libraries, Magic Academies, and Simple shops, Between Enjoying the local populace and such.
Oh and he also Worships Lymnieris(Eymperial Lord of Prostitution, Rites of passage, and Virginity aka: God of Santa Claus). He will be a little Chaste when he can, Not one to just jump up and woo any of these lovley ladies(or handsome men) around him.

Dragoncat |

Here's a list of the submitted applicants I've compiled. Please let me know if I missed anyone.
Ameiko!
Lykàn Delïss - Male Half-Elf Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager/Beastkin Berserker)
Ikoma Gohei - Male Human Samurai (Order of the Dragon)
Sandru!
Sigrún the Magpie - Female Half-Elf Bloodrager (Urban/Arcane Bloodline)
Qetsyiah - Female Human Cavalier (Order of the Dragon)
Koya!
Kwai Chang Caine - Male Human Magus (Hexcrafter/Staff Magus)
Shalelu!
Seishin of the Wheel - Male Samsaran Cleric of Tsukiyo
Ashlana Moran - Female Human Witch (Cartomancer)
Venus Val’Khan - Male Half-Drow Investigator

The Kobold Klan |

Yeah, Who wants to be a Divine caster? They are just the most powerful classes in the game not like their spells do stupid damage and completely ignore the fact that they also are wearing Full plate.
I mean seriously? Who wants all 9 spell Levels and an animal Companion as well as 75% of all the best Buffing spells that can turn you virtually invincible.
Sounds boring to me

Daiomadex "Dex" Billins |

pippinTook's submission!
Dex is a warpriestess of Iomedae. Putting the rest in spoilers for you.
Merrick had helped secure a job for Dex as a bodyguard on Sandru Vhiski’s caravan runs. Through Sandru, Dex had met his adoptive father, Koy. There was certainly an age gap, but Koy was mysterious and powerful. Alluring in ways Dex couldn’t even explain. But this Elven woman. She awoke something in Dex she hadn’t realized was there. Dex had been aware that other gals were pretty, but as this Elven ranger, who Dex later learned was named Shalelu, stood there confidently staring down her foe, Dex was smitten.
Now, she finds herself torn. On the one hand, Koy is a steady presence whose family has been in Sandpoint for years, and no doubt, would make a solid spouse. On the other hand, this Elf, who was known to disappear for months at a time, was alluring as a wild, impulsive option. And she had no idea what choice to make.
Starting Wealth: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 5, 6) = 19
190, not terrible! Beats the average.
Thanks for stepping up to run this! Really love the whole idea!
