Very interested in this. Are you okay with the instructor wizard archetype? It gives my character an apprentice who becomes a 1st level wizard when my character hits 3rd level, but has NPC commoner stats until then.

Backstory Idea, spoilered to avoid interrupting the RP:
The character idea is that he is a talented caster who was praised by his instructors and recruited by the Pathfinder Society, but that all went to his head and he insisted that he should be able to become an instructor at the magical academy where he was instructed. When they declined, he insisted he would form his own magical academy which would surpass theirs.

As he traveled about trying to get people to fund this venture, he heard nothing but rejection. However, while funders did not jump on board, a darling Halfling gal fell hard for the charming caster and began doting on him and blindly following him around in hopes of him one day being with him. Being completely oblivious to this, he happily accepted this new student and is quite happy to let her be both his protege and personal servant.

As she went into town one day to buy buy him some breakfast, she overheard people talking about free land. When she heard about the opportunity Talmandor's Bounty afforded, she happily shared the news with him and he decided to jump at the opportunity.

Definitely in for this! I have an awesome support build (Varisian pilgrim cleric/bard/maybe mesmerist multiclass) that I'm really excited to play!

If this is going to be an adventure series where we're looking to keep a consistent party together to go through it, I'd be interested. I actually just got a great idea for a cleric build, so I might bring in a brand new character or maybe a GM baby (I have a slot with a couple of GM credits).

@Archlich-Did you reconfigure Kronk for this? Really enjoyed that character concept in the RotR recruitment thread! (I was Gheri)

Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out?
Thallin “Thal” Braspur, human, commoner.
Thallin is a wanted criminal. He was an apprentice to a thief in Absalom and had gathered quite a good bit of wealth. However, his master reported him as the sole culprit in the thefts and he was chased from town as the local guard came after him he was in the midst of stealing some items from a local retired adventuring mage. The stolen items was the only objects of value he had with him, but something kept drawing him to them, and rather than sell them, he decided they must be kept. In actuality, the items are a conduit to a supernatural power which has now chosen Thallin as its vessel.
What 2 traits you will choose.
Vagabond child (region; urban)to get disable device as a class skill
Child of the Streets (social) to get sleight of hand as a class skill
What class direction you wish to take tentative
Occultist so that the items he stole (including the masterwork item) will become the implements to make him a D&D warlock type arcane caster (though I would not choose the patron for these powers, so that could be some fun GM choices for you if you want to go that direction)
Why you are in The Hollow.
Thal is in The Hollow laying low until the hunt for him (for his crimes in Absalom) dies down. While there, he is getting by with busking thanks to the masterwork lute he stole along with the other arcane implements.

EDIT: Just FYI, I might gender swap Thallin into Thallia. Still debating that.

Dotting in and then heading off to sort through the 47 1/2 character ideas I have :=)

Question: would weapon finesse also be on the "free feats" list or do you see it as still needing to be a skill gained through "training" (ie a feat)?

My d4 for ability points: 1d4 ⇒ 3

I've wanted to play in a game that starts at 0 level and have never been lucky enough to catch the recruitment for one. Count me very interested!

Would love to get in on this! I just created a lunar oracle on paper, just need to transfer all the info over to forum-friendly-format and I'll update with the actual character.

It sounds like you're asking applicants to pair their submission PCs with existing NPCs. If that's the case, where could an applicant find out more about the NPCs. If that's not the case, what will happen if two or more PCs set their sights on the same NPC love interest?

This site is very helpful and has the campaign traits as well.

I think having more than one PC going for a specific NPC is just part of the fun. Ultimately, I think the ending goal is one PC for each NPC, but I'd imagine twists and turns in getting there could be rather enjoyable for role play. Totally the GM's call, but I'd vote for letting it happen.

Definitely interested! Loving the "elephant in the room" system being used here as well. Feat taxes are ridiculous sometimes (occasionally logical, but commonly ridiculous).
Still working on a character concept, but I do have a trip-build monk that may fit this nicely.
I love the roleplay aspect of Pathfinder and any adventure where the NPC's and the world are being fleshed out more and are interactive rather than background is right up my alley!
Thanks for doing this!

Question: What is the deadline for submissions?

Weird idea that may be too far out of the mold, but you did say we should feel free to ask questions, so...in terms of using the "gestalt" build idea, could I distort that concept and play a summoner who is just a plain summoner, but have the eidolon be an unchained archetype plus a character class? Like an earth elemental barbarian or a devil swashbuckler or something? Like I said, might be too far out of bounds, but if you'd be willing to consider it, I have some really lovely ideas going with it.

Ah, I think that’s a tad bit too complicated. Interesting idea, but not really looking to try and balance that much.

Especially knowing this is a slightly complicated social campaign so.

Figured that would be the answer, but thanks for considering it :=)

Maybe this isn't the direction you wanted to go with it, but what if it's an "ongoing campaign" with season 0 adventures. Get some committed players and the characters adventure as a party from level 1 through as far as everyone stays interested. Maybe not an idea you wanted, and definitely one that goes further than just "through this July," but it sounds fun to me. I'd jump in to play that!

Everyone thank you for your understanding. Despite the difficulties of the past week I fully intend to run this, as promised. But given the situation I'm going to extend the recruitment deadline out to the end of next week.

The new recruitment deadline will be Friday, July 10th @ 6:00 p.m. CDT.

That will give me the time to go over everyone's submissions and choose the party.

My condolences for your loss and my admiration for your strength. You are an inspiration.

Posted interest in the Flaxseed thread, but looks like you're full up. Have fun stormin' the castle, boys (and girls)!

Would definitely be interested in doing both parts. I'll have to get back to you regarding which character I'll use. Lots of options in that range.

Still sorting through ideas, so no submission yet, but wanted to inquire if Catfolk would also be included in the acceptable race options?

Oh, and I also have a character idea that is an Orc. Not Half-Orc, but full-blooded Orc. Would that be acceptable?

Happy to step aside so Uhvat can keep going with the adventure and your party mate, Black Sun.

Might be willing to join. What character level would that be? Have to see if I have a suitable character in that range.

Hey, it's looking like a party!
So far we've got:

Terval, Halfling Draconic Sorcerer (Kulko)
Serellig Vrast, Cleric of Gozreh (my character)
Halfling Ranger/Halfling Druid/Gnome Bard (iamfitch)
(Jonkar?), Dwarven Fighter (Jonkar)
TBD (Nathanael Love)

Just thought I'd organize it so we could see it all together and determine party balance, which looks pretty good, actually, and might help Nathanael decide what he wants to bring to the party.
Hope you're all looking forward to this as much as I am!

Okay, final decisions:

If we go Core, I'm going with the blaster caster cleric of Gozreh (1st level). He's a bit of a ridiculous adrenaline junkie and is a "reluctant" healer in terms of how I role play him (so he'll totally heal whoever needs to be healed, he'll just gripe about how he'd rather be using his awesome blasts to destroy enemies).

If we go standard campaign style, I'll use the blossoming light cleric (1st level). She is far more healing focused, but she'll fight if she has to and will always give the enemies a chance to repent their evil ways, because Sarenrae is all about redemption.

Amending/adding to my earlier post, if we go Core, I could bring a blaster caster cleric of Gozreh. He specialized in his lightning arc and icicle attacks, but can still do healing stuff. He is also 1st level. Looked through my registered characters and realized I'd forgotten all about him!

I submit for your consideration Gunniston "Gunny" Thistledown, Gnome Divine Hunter going for the archmagi route. I tried to find ways to stay purely paladin, but still get the arcane concept. Hope you like it!

Spoiler:

Gnome Divine Hunter

Str: 10 +0
Dex: 16 +3
Con: 14 +2
Int: 10 +0
Wis: 11 +0
Cha: 16 +3

Deity: Gozreh
Traits: Balanced Offensive (1/day can use domain elemental blast which would be icicle or lightning arc because of Gozreh's domains), Riftwarden Orphan (WotR trait, archmagi, +2 concentration checks)
SQ: Darkvision; 4/day dancing lights, flare, prestidigitation, produce flames; +1 size bonus to attack and AC

1st Divine Hunter: feats-precise shot, extra Gnome magic (+3 uses/day)
2nd Divine Hunter:
3rd Divine Hunter: feat-point blank shot
4th Divine Hunter:
5th Divine Hunter: feat-symbolic mastery (use holy symbol to cast an elemental bolt of energy)
6th Divine Hunter:
7th Divine Hunter: feat-vital strike (to increase symbolic mastery damage)

OR if you're cool with multiclassing, she'll go vanilla cleric for 2nd level forward and will use lots of lighting arc and icicle as well as her produce flame to be more of a "blaster caster"

Backstory: "Gunny," as she is commonly called, grew up as an orphan. She was always seen as a bit of a peculiarity. One reason was her blue hair, a feature brought about by her Gnomish blood which stood out in a dominantly human neighborhood, but more telling was the oddly intricate marking on her forehead. It swirled in strange shades of blues, blacks, and had odd flickers of silver. It looked like the sort of thing one might find on the cover of a book about magic. The foster parents who raised her were kind and nurturing and continually strove to help her have an enjoyable childhood. One of her favorite childhood memories were their walks and picnics in nature. Being amongst the trees, hearing a babbling brook, feeling the sun warm her skin and the wind cool it off again. This balance and beauty was brought her to the worship of Gozreh, and her desire to restore the beauty of the nature upset in the Worldwound is a strong reason she's bound there. But the feeling deep within her that the person, or thing, responsible for her parents' death is an even stronger pull. Balance must be restored. A life for a life.

Volunteering to fill one of those experienced player roles.
Have a few ideas of what to bring. The normal rules options are:

1. Blossoming Light Cleric who is the ultimate channel healing machine but also throws fire bolts around to the glory of Sarenrae

2. Martyr Paladin who takes bleed damage through a stigmata to give the party inspire courage (like a bard) and is a full BAB 10HD damaging machine as well

3. A shieldbearer warpriest whose life's work is to protect allies and shieldbash evil doers into submission

Any of these would be 1st level in a slot I have 2 GM credits waiting to be used.
And yes, I build weird characters and I love the role-play aspect of Pathfinder.

For Core options, I'll bring a melee-oriented wizard. Yes, frontlining wizard. Still 1st level.

Like Kulko, I check the site multiple times a day, so I can keep up with a faster paced game if that's desired.

Definitely interested. Have played at lots of in-person tables of PFS and played a few PBP's several years ago. Not sure which character I'd play, but definitely have some options.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

I didn't realize that dim lighting caused a miss chance. Guess I've GM'd things incorrectly a time or two.

There is a magical item called a palelight torch that makes any area it enters (40' radius) an area of dim light (even lowering normal lighting to dim light). I'm thinking a shield sconce with a palelight torch and my tank now has awesome AC and a 50% miss chance. That's outstanding!

Can one add both a shield sconce and shield spikes?

I recently got the Blood of Shadows Player Companion and think I have a neat feature for a wayang I've been building, but I'm not entirely sure how to understand one of the alternate racial traits.
The Scion of Shadows (which replaces light and dark and shadow resistance) says that "attacks made against such a wayang in dim light have a 50% miss chance instead of the normal 20% miss chance." Nothing I've looked at about wayangs says anything about there being a 20% miss chance in dim light, however. Therefore, I was unclear of where that comes from and how that is to be understood.
If someone could clarify that or fill in the blank that I seem to be missing, I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

I would have told you RL comes first, but Akri beat me to it ;=)

So a pistolero having completed his first adventure (and therefore having 2 PP) could go ahead and get a pistol dagger. Awesome!
Thanks for the feedback. I had thought that was the way it would work, but just wanted to make sure.

Do purchases made with prestige points still follow the "always available" rules that purchases with GP need to follow?
For example, firearms are not always available, but a pistol dagger is 740GP, and therefore, it could be purchased with 2 PP.
Since the usage of prestige points is "calling in a favor," so to speak, it would stand to reason that it doesn't follow the same rules as GP purchases, but I know that reason and rules do not always follow the same path.
If anyone knows the for-sure answer, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So excited to see who makes this!

Thanks, Tux, for opening the thread early for the roleplay to happen. I think it's awesome that we've all gotten the chance to enjoy our characters whether they become the stars of the show or not.

Firebug wrote:

Read this and then sat here for a moment before a simple thought crossed my mind..."Crap."

Good catch there! I was totally not thinking about the cost of things and the fame requirements as I got caught up in the details of how feats and such fit. She'll have 6 fame if I use this character slot, so I guess I'll just have to wait until I feed more GM credits into it and then start her at 3rd level.
Ah well. Totally not a deal breaker.

Jaster Kite wrote:
Is this recruitment thread still open? Because I might have this sort of Ragna-Esque character that might fit into a Kill La Kill-esque setting. What do we have here so far?

I believe Tux is keeping the recruiting open until the end of the month or so. We also have some glorious fun already going in the gameplay thread if you want to get a feel for how the game is shaping up (or join he mayhem).

Ah, so the wrist sheath idea is unfortunately flawed. Ah well, it can still be holstered at the hip.
In terms of expense, I GM'd one of the 3 initial adventures up, so she gets the higher gold from it. That's making the warhammer musket feasible.
I actually have a musket master character (who is actually this character's father), but I want this one to be a mysterious stranger for two reasons. One, it adds more variety by playing a different archetype. And two, it replaces wisdom with charisma for the grit and grit-related things, so I can party face with her. It also has the nifty focused aim deed which lets me add my charisma modifier to any gun damage I do. It wouldn't overlap into the warhammer aspect, though, just the gun and only when I spend a grit point for it.
I actually see my fellow PCs drop a reasonable amount in PFS play. Not all the time by any stretch, but enough to make me think this may come in handy. My biggest debate was how early to think about taking bloody vengeance. I like it at 3rd to establish it as part of how the character works and the whole role-play aspect, but I absolutely debated if I need to get weapon focus with the warhammer or precise shot in there earlier. I'm only willing to hold off on precise shot as long as I am because gunslingers target touch AC.

Thanks, everyone, for the constructive feedback and clarifying questions :=)

Okay, just to give some context, this character was somewhat inspired by the weapon ideas in RWBY where their melee weapons are also guns. Therefore, I was looking at doing something along those lines. This build focuses on the warhammer musket.
This will be a PFS character built for a slot in which I've already put some GM credits, so the character will start at 1st level. I'm going with the mysterious stranger archetype for added damage on any type of gun as well as the ability to be the party face.
The mysterious stranger and feral hunter will each be one level dips and she'll go the rest of the way as a fighter for the BAB, the feats, the weapon training, and such.
The starting weapon as a gunslinger will be a pistol (which will go in a spring-loaded wrist sheath as a back-up weapon) and the combo of rapid reload and paper cartridges will keep the musket viable.
The feral hunter aspect allows me to switch from +2 to dex to +2 to str depending on if I'm in melee or ranged mode. It also lets me accommodate situational things like, "Oh, you cast deeper darkness? I use a swift action to gain the scent ability. Hey look, I found you."
Anyway, here's the build with a layout through level 7.
I love the half-orc bloody vengeance feat for this build as she can stand back and shoot things, but once a front-liner drops, she becomes a "barbarian" and rages for 4 rounds (but with only +2 to str and con).
My main concern for her is that the AC won't be too great.
Anyway, helpful thoughts, ideas, and brainstorming are absolutely welcome!

Feral Hunter 1/Mysterious Stranger 1

Str: 16 +3
Dex: 14 +2
Con: 11+0
Int: 8 -1
Wis: 11 +0
Cha: 16 +3

HP: 15
AC: 16 (or 17) [+2 (+3) dex, +4 lamellar leather]
BAB: +1

Deity: Torag
SQ: orc ferocity, darkvision, deed-focused aim (1 grit point to add charisma mod to damage), 3 grit points
Traits: Defensive strategist (never flat-footed), something to get knowledge (religion)

Feats: Rapid reload-musket

Melee: Warhammer (from musket) 1d8+4 (+6), +4 (+5) to hit, x3 crit
Ranged: Musket (with warhammer) 1d12, +3 (+4) to hit touch AC, x4 crit, 30 ft range
Pistol (in spring-loaded wrist sheath) 1d8, +3 (+4) to hit touch AC, 20 ft range

3rd level Fighter-21 HP, +2 BAB, feats-point-blank shot and bloody vengeance
4th level Fighter-+1 con (+4 HP), 31 HP, +3 BAB, feat-weapon focus: warhammer
5th level Fighter-38 HP, +4 BAB, feat-precise shot
6th level-Fighter-45 HP, +5 BAB, feat-deadly aim
7th level-Fighter-52 HP, +6 BAB, weapon training 1 (+1 to attack and damage with warhammer), feat-deific obedience (+1 to attack with warhammer)

EDIT: HP is done without factoring an extra hit point per level rather than the class skill or skill point, but that's definitely an option.

Backstory: Shona is the youngest child of a Varisian merchant named Jamifar and his wife Sylvar. Jamifar, a native of the Varisian city of Magnimar, serves on the Council of Ushers: a group overrun with self-indulging nobles and greedy power-seekers. Jamifar, however, is a man consumed with doing good and making a positive difference. He would be a great role model for his young daughter...if he wasn't at work so much.
Sylvar spends much of her time tending to Jamifar's mercantile interests since he is so often busy with Council business. That is largely why Shona was raised by numerous members of the household staff.
Shona's personality has always been of a bright and outgoing nature. Her large smile, red hair, and bright green eyes have always quickly endeared her to people. Because of this, she grew up with continual praise for how lovely an sweet she was. This helped develop her complete lack of humility. It's not to say that Shona is vain in any way, she just doesn't understand that compliments aren't something commonplace and she expects that everyone is just naturally inclined towards adoring her.
As Shona grew older, her parents (in the moments they were around their youngest daughter) decided that she was a great beauty, but needed to develop more skills. Therefore, they enrolled her in training for dance. Her instructor began by trying to teach her to do traditional Varisian dances using ribbons. Shona had no real interest in the dance steps themselves, but took immediately to the snap, swirling, and manipulating of the ribbons. In no time at all, she was wielding them as weapons with which to trip the other dancers as they'd move across the floor and having a great time as this would induce light hearted chasing and playing. Her instructors were not as pleased with this, and her dance training ended...mere hours after it had begun.
As her family worshipped Calistria, and the whip is the deity's favored weapon, they presented her with the scorpion whip that had been in Sylvar's family for generations and turned to the Calistrian church as a place for their daughter to learn a skill. While she was learning training with the whip, Shona was also picking up on the subtle art of manipulation. She was quickly building a large repertoire of social understanding which helped her to be even more effective in getting her way...not that she needed much help.
Shona's comfortable and pampered life included being a kind and caring younger sibling, a generous member of the society helping the underprivileged, and a lot of positive attention. It also featured impulse control issues and a lack of social tact. It was not an uncommon scene to see Shona wander through town waving at strangers as though she were a celebrity nor to see her walk into a room with boys present and strike a pose while calling out, "Hello, boys!"
Things changed for Shona on the day that a thrush landed on her windowsill. It perched there staring at the girl who greeted it with, "Hello, Mr. Thrush! I'll bet you've never seen anyone as beautiful as me, have you?" The thrush, after giving what sounded like a sigh, responded with, "Unfortunately, the school does not give classes on learning humility." Rather than being caught off guard that a bird was speaking intelligently to her, Shona replied with, "A school? Are there boys there?!?!?"

Tux magically did reappear!!! So glad you've come back to us :=)

Thank you, Tux, for making this happen!! I had begun to worry that this idea was going to be dropped and the game wouldn't happen. I'll adjust my character submission from the initial thread and repost her here...probably tonight.
So much happiness just happened!

Update: MordredofFairy has too many time commitments at this point and can't step in for this.
Any of the potential players in this thread feel comfortable taking on the GM role? I definitely don't have that comfort level on a PbP setting, but if any of the rest of you do, maybe we could still make this happen? Or maybe Tux could magically reappear? Or something?

I just PM'd MordredofFairy who had expressed some interest in GMing this earlier (like on page 2 of this thread, actually), so hopefully this can still happen. I've been checking this thread every day and feeling sad that nothing was happening. I really want this game to go off!

Just curious on if there's any update of when to expect an update, GM? Some submission guidelines or some such could get us all refining/finalizing our submissions.
