Probably a good time to say that I'm changing two of those locations from those in the published adventure to make them more connected to the heroes. This will result in some deviation from Freedom City/Earth Prime canon, but I think it will be more fun.
Thought about putting one of the stones in the Vatican Vaults, but decided to save that for later.

GM SuperTumbler |

I think we are pretty close to finished with the big info dump. Everyone make sure to contribute when it comes time for planning what comes next. This adventure is less of a railroad than the previous two, so how you follow up on the various leads will affect how things play out.
I don't want us to get lost in the sandbox, which I've seen be a problem in PbP.

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

Am still here - discussed way forward with our esteemed GM.
Æthelweard's reintroduction was somewhat of a damp squib, but I'm working on a couple of posts to explain the lack of engagement by the good Professor when the FF attacked. Will also expand on the mythos of the game a little and hopefully allow me to (re)reengage in a more fruitful and contributory fashion.

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

First post done. Call back to our erstwhile Hundred Handed Titan and utilisation of ye olde Instant Sedation trope of a sort.
Will re-read the gameplay and see what pops when he wakes.

"Eldritch" Max Sinclair |

OK. I think we've some road trips to take. Max cannot take everyone without hero points. I think the best bet is using the Nexus and getting close.
The question is where do we go first? I don't think we should split the party, but that might be a way to handle the different posting speeds.
Max will brief everyone when they return to the Nexus of his information, but I cannot think of any other questions in the current scene. Unless he could learn more by higher Expertise (Magic) DCs. He could roll some, looking for 25+
cheers

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

More to come on the Professor's transmonsterification but figured it better to allow others to react/act etc.
Quick system question - as he transforms but has his hands bound, how can Eoten break free? Simple STR (Damage) vs Toughness (for Bindings/Shackles)?
Wanted to factor in the mechanics without hijacking the system :)

GM SuperTumbler |

You can either do damage automatically or attack and if you hit you get a free crit.
I'd say 2 degrees of failure would break the cuffs.
Cuffs are Toughness 9.
I can't find the rule, but I think I remember that when you grow you get a free attack against anything that would restrict your growth (bursting through a ceiling or something).

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

SOURCE: POWER PROFILES p.160
One of the limitations on Growth is the difficulty of using it to full effect indoors! If a growing character reaches the limit of the available space and keeps growing, make an automatic Damage Resistance Check for the material of the surrounding space against the character’s modified Strength rank. If the material breaks, the character bursts out of it and continues growing. If the material successfully resists, the growing character is compressed and must resist the material’s Toughness rank in damage. Check again each round the character grows until the material breaks or the growing stops (which typically happens if the character is stunned or incapacitated).

Good Knight Gracie |

Just a heads up, on Monday I will go on vacation for a couple weeks. While will have Internet access on and off, I'll be focused on other activities and am looking forward to a bit of a break, so I may not be on my games much. Starting Monday, please bot my character as needed. For this current scenario once it ends, in case it ends while I am away: Grace will probably use her Connected advantage (i.e., call Win) to get info on the UNISON agents who were possessed and make sure they end up in the right hands.

Black Dow |

I do really like the vivid image in my head of a mid-70's era volume cover of Eoten hunched over in a hospital hallway with a wriggling man in his mouth I got.
"The DEVOURER Revealed! Has our Professor finally lost himself for good!?!"
Love it :) - exactly what we were shooting for.

Good Knight Gracie |

Posting from a car with intermittent internet: Gracie will lose her powers if she chooses not to to protect people if is is able to, so I would appreciate it if she could be botted to do so as I asked so she doesnt lose her powers because I went on vacation. She can use Interpose to protect the UNISON agent. Thank you.

The Devourer |

Will hold off from my next post pending how Gracie's Interpose can apply.

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

Sorry gang - work's stymied my posting this week. Decks cleared, so should get something up tonight.

The Devourer |

No worries chief - happens to us all.

Good Knight Gracie |

Folks, I am back online and will post later today on my lunch break or after work. Thanks, Stormdragon, for posting on Gracie's behalf--I agree that if we say she was just too startled to initially react, she would definitely intervene. I was quite taken aback by the scenario and wish I had been able to be online to interact appropriately, but I also really needed this break.
Speaking of needed breaks, I hope GMSuperT takes whatever time he needs.

Good Knight Gracie |

Hey folks, moving the ooc conversation to the discussion thread. Sorry I seem to have complicated things far more than I intended. I'm just sorry I hadn't been able to be online much earlier to get this sorted out more efficiently sooner.
StormDragon, first of all, thanks for looking out for me. :) This said, since I noted Gracie was unarmored, I knew there could be possible consequences for Gracie jumping in. I take SuperT's suggestion as picking up on what I posted, not being out of left field (he and I have also chatted privately about related issues and we're good).
This said, I've been sleeping on it/thinking about it, and I think it's best that the Devourer just eats the dude. Especially since it's been two weeks and we've not yet navigated past this scene.
My priority has always been simply that Gracie does SOMETHING. My only problem is, and the only thing I was potentially upset about, was if she fails to act at all--she wouldn't just sit there and suffers consequences if she did--and I was just hoping someone would bot an appropriate reaction in some way while I was away for two weeks (which SD did) since I was unable to post. I suggested her Interpose ability because it's an obvious, easy ability a botter can find on her character sheet. However, I recognize this is an ability of a type that causes narrative/timing issues especially in the medium of PBP.
But I think we can have Gracie attempt to act, and simply fail to do so. It's plausible mechanically to argue that she can't Interpose into a Grab, and can't save the guy once Grabbed. This might cause rules interpretation issues down the line but we can cross that bridge if and when we come to it.
Meanwhile from a fluff perspective, the focus is on the Devourer and our fellow player's Big Damn moment entering back into the story. Gracie moves in a second too late and still hits the Devourer with her sword, triggering the save for the alternative effect. She has acted in keeping with her knightly code but the Devourer gets his moment.
While Gracie's arm being eaten could have interesting effects, yes, either she just grows her arm back due to her regeneration, which gives us no interesting consequences and makes the Devourer seem less scary, or she loses an arm (semi?) permanently Due to Plot Reasons, and that adds drama and focus on the character, that as I have thought about it, I just don't really want right now. I don't mind having more complications--that's just more opportunities for hero points--but we don't need broody Winter Soldier Gracie coming out of this. I think it's the kind of thing that would be cool later in this story--a heroic injury during a heroic battle--but we're just right now trying to get the party together and begin to collect the MacGuffins. The timing's not right.
Sound good?

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

Apologies gang - battered at work. Abnormal service should resume in a day or so. Please bot me as/when/if required.

Good Knight Gracie |

It would make sense that this basically triggers your addiction complication. You could just post that the Nightmare form is watching, enthralled by the scene.

"Eldritch" Max Sinclair |

Max was waiting to reconnected to the main time, because he spent time at the hospital before portaling to the Nexus. Then, you said you get the main plot on the rails, so he waited to board the adventure train.
;D

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

As a total aside thought I'd share some of my creative whims in Heroforge:
Rest of Eldritch is being formed and are at various stages of WIP, but above two were "easiest" markers to start with.
@Echos: Hope I've done your dread vision justice :)

Echos Myron |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

ahhh as someone who uses heroforge often, I did not think to make Oz using it.
I did a very spooky monstrous version of Oz that requires a specific angle to get the proper effect, and I have a mid-transformation Oswald.
Oz, the Walking Nightmare
You gotta find the sweet spot
@Black Dow, you did! I imagine his look to be very unnerving, and you captured that. My take just cranks things up to an obnoxious level.

Professor Æthelweard Langfellow |

Have finally nailed down Æthelweard/Eoten...
As per his origin Æthelweard discovered the petrified heart of Cornish Giant Cormoran. It's magic activated by his giantish bloodline, and in tandem with the ancient incantation allows him to transform into Eoten.
The Eotenheorte artefact gives the Professor immunity to disease, increase in toughness (so he's less squishy when I run with him over Eoten in-game) and regeneration whilst on the mainland of Albion (Great Britain)
Sorry its taken so long Tumbler :)
Getting back to Heroforge, agree Echos' has some skills. Need to raise my game lol...
