The ruined siege castles outside Absalom have long beckoned adventurers looking to make a name for themselves. Now an earthquake has cracked open one of these fabled ruins, and its lost mysteries and fantastic treasures lie exposed for the first time in centuries. But the tower's empty halls once more echo with living footfalls, and a new master has claimed the Fallen Fortress as his own. Can the PCs find a way to get inside its shattered walls? What ancient dangers and fresh threats will they encounter inside its crumbling chambers? And will the PCs be able to defeat the current Master of the Fallen Fortress?
I'm now recruiting players to play a relatively short adventure for Level 1 Pathfinder Society characters. The adventure is called Master of the Fallen Fortress. I especially invite new players--new to Pathfinder in general, Pathfinder Society specifically, or to Play-by-Post as a format. Other people can sign up as well (it's good to have a mix of veterans and new players), but I'll give priority to new players--just explain why you're a new player when you post in this thread. I'll move slowly and add extra explanations to help new players learn what they need to know. I'll keep the recruitment thread open for at least a few days to give new players time to sign up.
If you'd like to play, please complete the check-in sheet below. I can only accept completed check-in sheets, but in the spoilers below I've explained what each of these things are in case you're new to Pathfinder Society.
Player:
Character:
Pathfinder Society Number:
This Chronicle #:
Starting XP:
Initial Prestige:
Initial Fame:
Starting Gold:
Faction:
"Character" is the name of the character you would like to play (remember, it has to be a level 1 character for this adventure).
"Pathfinder Society Number" is your Organized Play Number followed by a dash, and then the character number (for example, if it's your first character, it would be ######-1). If you need help getting an Organized Play Number, just ask in this thread and we'll help you.
"This Chronicle #" is the number of the Chronicle sheet you'll get from this adventure. Chronicle sheets are numbered consecutively in the top-right corner. If you've never played your PC before, you would put the number "1" on this line. If, on the other hand, you've already received two Chronicles for your PC, you would put the number "3" on this line.
"Starting XP" is how many XP your PC currently has. For this adventure, the number has to be either 0, 1, or 2. (if the number is 3 or higher, than you have a Level 2 character and this adventure is only for Level 1 characters).
"Initial Prestige" is how many Prestige Points (PP) your PC currently has. This will be 0 if you've never played the character before. If you have played the character before, look at the character's most recently Chronicle to see their total number of PPs. It's probably 2 or 4.
"Initial Fame" is how many Fame points your PC currently has. This will be 0 if you've never played the character before. If you have played the character before, look at the character's most recently Chronicle to see their total Fame. It's probably 2 or 4.
"Starting Gold" is how much gold your PC has coming into this adventure. You can find this by looking at the most recent Chronicle sheet for your character. If you're playing a brand new character, list this as 150 and then tell me how much of your starting gold you've spent on equipment.
"Faction" is the Faction that your PC belongs to. If you haven't chosen a Faction for your PC, the baseline assumption is that they are a member of the Grand Lodge. If you'd like help on figuring out how to choose a Faction, please ask in this thread and we'll help.

Would love to be involved in this. Haven't gotten to play PFS yet, and due to some Real Life stuff, haven't played in a game on the site yet.
I'm an experienced 1st thru 5e D&D player, a former wrestling E-Fedder and familiar with Pathfinder in a tabletop enviroment.
Will get to work on a PFS character for this right away.
Kroone |
Not a new player here - a veteran - but I'd like to join with this character is there's a spot. Kroone is a Nagaji Iroran Paladin.

Starting XP: 4
Initial Prestige: 4
Initial Fame: 0
Starting Gold: 16gp 9sp

Hey - I'd be interested in joining. Only played a handful of PFS 1e games (only have one level 2 character thats in another PbP right now). Done quite a lot of PFS 2e (mostly offline) and a lot of ACG (mainly PbP).
Have two half-built characters (skald and a druid). Will finish/register both tonight and will post my check in when i do.

@grimdog73: Thanks, I appreciate that. If you want to go ahead and fill out a check-in sheet, I'd like to get a couple of veterans into the group.
@torilgrey: Excellent, welcome! Pathfinder Society games are perhaps best thought of as a series of one-shot adventures that you play with a different group of players every time. There are "seasons" or "years" of Pathfinder Society that group adventures along a common theme or with an overall story meta-arc. A new PC starts at level 1, and after every three (normal-length) adventures, levels up. You get a special sheet, called a "Chronicle", after every adventure that lists your rewards (gold, XP, etc.) There's a lot more to it but I don't want to overwhelm you. Really all you need to get started is your own character or even to play a pre-generated level 1 "Iconic" PC. The Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide is here. The key part is Appendix 1, character creation. Because not every non-Core Rulebook option is allowed in PFS, a really handy way to see what's PFS legal is to use the Archives of Nethys when building characters. Every option that is PFS-legal will have a little symbol (a sort of circle with swirl X) next to it. And for play-by-post specifically, a lot of it is learning by seeing how others format their posts and so forth. A play-by-post session like this probably will take around six-to-eight weeks of real-time. I'm happy to help with any questions you have.
@Mr Nevets: Great, happy to have you! Yes, please get started on a character and let me know if you have any questions along the way.
@Kroone: It looks like you have a level 2 character there (4 XP). This adventure is for level 1 characters only (with 0, 1, or 2 XP).
@MauveAvengr: Cool, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
@pippinTook: Great, go ahead and pick a Level 1 character you think would be fun to play and fill in the check-in sheet when you're ready.
@Fox--Pantom: Yes, definitely spots left! We're still in the early days of recruitment.

Thanks, Jomal is in. Can you just double-check his Fame? Normally a character gets a point of fame every time they get a Prestige Point, and since Fame isn't expended, it should be at least as high. (older Chronicle sheets didn't have a box for Fame though, so it's possible GMs forgot to record it). Fame is important as you level up because it determines the maximum amount of gold you can spend on a single magical item.

It should be 4 as well, but the "Organized Play" tab here in the site is telling me zero. I think it's bugged but I didn't want to cause concern. To be honest, I won't be using it any soon, so proceed as you prefer.
Gareleth Jarvinx |
I will be bringing the whip-wielding Half-orc Kensai Magus, Garelth Jarvinx. He is a trip build and can dish out some damage. He can also do some healing with his wand of infernal healing, which I'm sure will sit well with the paladin!
Player: Sean (pippinTook)
Character: Gareleth Jarvinx
Pathfinder Society Number: 139218-23
This Chronicle #: 2
Starting XP: 1
Initial Prestige: 0
Initial Fame: 2
Starting Gold: 401
Faction: Silver Crusade

@Jomal: Okay, let's assume the Fame is actually four. I find relying on the physical Chronicle sheets is better than the online system. The actual Chronicle sheets are the official record if there's any discrepancy anyway.
@Torilgrey: Great, I'll look forward to it.
@Gareleth Jarvinx: Excellent, you're in!

I can't have anyone officially in until I see a completed check-in sheet. I would just go ahead and pick a PC that you think will be fun to play. With an adventure like this, there's no need to stress about making sure every role is filled. And sometimes it can be really fun to see an unusual combo of characters.

I think I made the character correctly? I'll be adding some background and fluff later today if all goes well.
