(#1-12) "Burden of Envy" (Inactive)

Game Master rainzax

Swindler, rogue, and occasional Pathfinder ally Guaril Karela has approached the Society with an opportunity that Valais Durant, the leader of the Society's Radiant Oath faction, can't refuse. Guaril has been charging refugees to sneak them out of Xin Edasseril, a city ruled by the Runelord of Envy, and now it looks like Guaril won't be able to fulfill his contracts. Society agents are charged with sneaking into the dangerous city and sneaking out with a handful of its citizens before their absence is noticed so that the Radiant Oath can help them find new lives beyond their current ruler's tyrannical reach.

Greetings.
As the title, this is a recruitment thread for 6 players of levels 1st through 4th to play the 2nd Edition Pathfinder Society Scenario #1-12 "Burden on Envy" taking place in New Thassilon of the Saga Lands.

Application
Please apply below with an Alias representing your character. If you are new, I will work with you to assemble a Profile and Profile Header that are readily legible / useable. Take a look at some of my own Aliases if you'd like an example. Priority will be given to legibility / usability, as well as to at least a couple new folks, as I am a fan of mixed-experience groups.

Deadline
Thursday night, April 23, at Midnight. I will consider all applications submitted before then, and announce the group Friday. And we will start this weekend.

Expectations
Standard. Posting an average of once a day is expected. Also, I will be using Google Drive to share Handouts and Maps, so you will need access to that to participate.

About Me
I am a longtime home DM who just a few months ago got swept into 2nd Edition, Society play, and Play-by-Post. This gives me a lot of empathy for Newcomers here! That said, this will be my first undertaking actually GMing all three together. As such, I ask for your patience in return, but can absolutely promise that my #1 priority is to show you a good time. I adore this scenario, and would like to do right by it.

Tips?
I'd like to incorporate your pre- and post- feedback into my game. So, if you can think of one tip to give me, that you think might improve the flow of the game, please share that in your post, and I will do my best to incorporate it. Too, I may ask you to complete a feedback survey at the end of our time (6-8 weeks), as a courtesy to running.

...

And good luck!

Radiant Oath

I have this character, a never-before-played human chirurgeon alchemist who's in Radiant Oath faction. Kunsheng is (as the name suggests) a Tien-Shu.

I've played some PF2e before, so not a complete novice. I've played a fair amount of PbP, though.

Vigilant Seal

Imiriax is a relatively new character in need of some seasoning. I'd love to join.

I've been GMing for a very long time. I run many games online in PF1e, PF2e and several other systems. My best suggestion is to understand that things will flow slowly and no matter how much you want one post a day you probably won't get it, especially on weekends. The tradeoff is that you have the chance to craft your descriptions and dialog far better than you would in a Tabletop RPG. So settle in for some slow but good roleplaying.

I strongly suggest that you use Google Slides for your maps. Works great, is easy for everyone else to join you.

I'll need to make a 2nd character, but I'm down to play.

Horizon Hunters

Locke is a 1st level character with 5 xp (1-01 & a quest).

EDIT (take 2): That was weird... anyhow, not a new player. Most of my GMing and playing has been PbP.

Envoy's Alliance

Just hit 2nd level with this bard. Most of my playtime is thru PbP. Have a few experience with 1st ed PF. But more inclined to play 2nd ed now that it's out.

Radiant Oath

Here is Vrog's alias. I'm still working on getting him statted up, but should have it up by tomorrow night.

Envoy's Alliance

I'd like to toss my hat into the ring. Helène is a reformed Sczarni, which seems to fit in nicely with this scenario. She's a level 2 monk with Sorcerer dedication.

I'm fairly experienced in PF2, both on PbP and offline. It's always nice to see a new player/GM who's willing to take the plunge, and I'm certainly willing to offer some advice during or after the game.

My tip for playing online would be to ask all the players to leave botting instructions in their profile. Even before the scenario starts, this gives you an idea of what to expect from each of the players in terms of abilities used. During play it will allow you to keep the game moving if a player is suddenly absent, while keeping their moves in line with their wishes.

Oh, I'd love to make up a rogue for this game! I've been wanting to make one for a while and this would be the perfect game to bring her too! I'll get a profile together within the day.

I'm not new to pbp or PF2, sadly and it seems we need some more new players here, though.

Good one. I concur.

Radiant Oath

Okay, I have him updated.

Envoy's Alliance

Okay, this is the rogue I was getting ready!

She's based off a character that the incomparable HMM spun up for an NPC, (Slight Sewer Dragons of Abasalom spoiler warnings) but I liked her characterization so much I wanted to make her a PC for the longest time. Sadly I couldn't find a rogue build I was happy with, until 2nd edition came out that is!

Good one. I concur.

Additionally, if they add tags for their most common rolls (which is ideally in a botting profile to begin with!) the player themselves can use it to get something posted quickly. I regularly use my characters botting profiles to just copy and paste an attack roll cause it have significantly less chance of messing up numbers that way.

An elf with pale hair, an ageless face, and sparkling midnight eyes steps into the room. He moves with an air of exquisite self-assurance.

He wears pale blue breeches puffed and tucked into knee-high stompers, and a black high-shouldered coat. His white cuffed shirt is clasped at the wrist and neck with buckles of iron. He is wearing a blue hat and into his sash is thrust a rapier and a whip; his dark coat is accented with a silk kerchief that perfectly matches the hat.

He shoots his cuffs before performing a punctilious bow.

A good evening to you, Pathifnders! Zamp, Apollon Zamp. It is a pleasure.

Character Sheet

This is Doug! :O

Checking in;
I've decided to advance the deadline a couple hours "up" to 8:00pm Thursday (4/23/2020) for submissions (instead of midnight), and declaring our company members by 10:00pm that same night. If you need help, please send me a private message, and I can work with you to put together a full and complete (fun!) character. Even if this is your first time trying PbP, or Pathfinder, or Pathfinder 2.0, or Society play... or Rpgs?...

Here is the current list of (mostly) completed submissions:

1) Xue "Qīngwā" Kunsheng > Human (Tian-Shu) Acolyte Alchemist (Chirurgeon) 1
2) Imiriax > Human (?) Scholar Wizard (Transmuter) 2 and Anton (Raven?)
3) Locke of Highdelve > Human (Varisian) Issian Partisan Rogue (Thief) 1
4) Malark Evenwood > Human (?) Entertainer Bard (Maestro) 2
5) Helène Yolescu > Human (Varisian) Merchant Monk (Wolf Stance) 2
6) Kanto Esse > Human (Thassilonian) Traveler Fighter (Sudden Charge) 1
7) Rose "the ex-Scout" Thesar > Half-elf (Absalom) Former Aspis Agent Rogue (Thief) 1
8) Appolon Zamp > Elf (Ancient) ? Rogue (Scoundrel) / Sorcerer (Draconic) 2

I'd ask that those of you with "?'s" above either make those character decisions, or, make those character decisions clearer in your character profiles (had to do some hunting...) before the deadline, in order to be considered. The more info is readily legible / useable, the more I can make the character decisions you made (ancestry, background, class, skill feat, etc) have meaningful impact in our game together.

And those of you giving me advice, thank you, I will heed it.

Again, anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me!

Cheers.

My profile is updated.

I have also updated my Paizo profile with everything, as well as macros. I’ll add some bottling instructions before we begin.

Let me know if you need anything else or have any questions.

Envoy's Alliance

Updated Malark's ethnicity to Varisian.

"Salutations," a human begins. "I am called Orris, or I am called "Doc" by those short on time."

He has some residue of kohl at the edges of his his eyes, and a face and head covered with black stubble interrupted by a few scars. His expressions and gestures show evidence of substance use the previous day; coarse and common fabric from the local market is wrapped over his harmor in an ancient Thassalonian style, but the pouch of alchemical tools at his hip looks like the real deal: it is crafted with a refined elegance that has been scarce for tens of centuries.

"I ask you not to misapprehend," he continues. "I can heal, but I am called 'doctor' because I have taken letters; I am schooled in doctrine. These letters do not fit in schools of this time, so I am ready to school in the 'hard knocks,' as they say." He smiles grimly and punches at an imaginary foe, to demonstrate. His speech is awkward, but he seems like he could handle himself if the foe were real.

Dr. Orris Duftwurtz,
Welcome to my game, and welcome to Pathfinder 2nd edition, and welcome to Society play, and welcome to Play by Post.

If you have any questions about Building your Character, formatting your Status Bar, choosing your Society Faction, or any other out-game questions, I will direct you to the Discussion thread. You are lucky to be joining a game of distinguished veterans - some with Legacy Backgrounds! - and I'm sure that if I can't answer a question, they can support you in finding your footing here.

Your teammates - Xue "Qīngwā" Kunsheng, Imiriax, Helène Yolescu, Appolon Zamp, and Bardok Marsh - are currently negotiating the price of your ticket out of the city, and I'd ask that you stand by until that negotiation is complete, and they have sailed into the Port of Xin-Edasseril, where you will be meeting them.

At such a time, I will then invite you into the Gameplay thread, with your first post being about the arrangements you have made to appear at the Docks upon their ship's arrival.

Cheers!

Going to squeeze Rose back in, per a miscommunication for which I accept partial responsibility, weighing us in at 7 players. Perhaps fitting to be, by the time we conclude, the last table of it's size in Society history!?

Envoy's Alliance

I would be intersted in going on this mission

@ Grex, this mission is completed. But if you check into Cottonseed Lodge, it couldn't hurt to ask if someone might run it? Cheers.
