Hello, all. Back from CES in Vegas. All good here, despite the smoke in the air and the 90,000+ evacuees displaced from their now-destroyed homes.

Am incredibly proud of how Los Angeles is handling all of this. The officials, the fire department, the state, even the Canadian and Mexican volunteer firefighters!

(I missed that somehow... sorry.) Very glad you are ok, we are all hoping the winds calm down. I am glad to hear of the volunteers! Every bit of help is crucial, there are so many sites. I was reading that the imported palm trees tend to explode and send cinders into the air, causing more fires. Jeez.

Ah, but I am not trying to damage or destroy them. The sentence prior to the above sentence states, "Creatures that take penalties in bright light take them while within the 60-foot radius of this magical light." When you look at the definition of "Bright Light" it states, "In bright light, such as sunlight, creatures and objects can be observed clearly by anyone with average vision or better." I am trying to apply the "Staggered Condition" to the Wraiths not damaging them.

Here's what I'm seeing in the loot list on Roll20.

All of the fungible loot (gems, coins, mithral ore, and collections of books) total 46,352gp. Even after we pay for the restoration spells and a new wand of cure light wounds, that still leaves 43,762gp.

Some magic items we should sell unless someone places a claim (full price in parentheses, knowing that we'll get half price):
4x +1 hide armor (1165gp each)
+1 leather lamellar (1210)
+1 glamered chain shirt (3950)
3x masterwork longswords (315 each)
+2 cruel falcata (18,318)
dagger of venom (8302)
boulderhead mace (6812)
+1 rapier (this is not the +1 mithral rapier Ezranadir is using) (2320)
+1 mithral punching dagger (2502)
horacalcum light mace (6005)
+1 lucerne hammer (2315)
+1 sickle (2306)
cold iron longsword (30)
clay golem manual (12,000)
folding boat (should we keep it? None of us seems to have profession sailor) (7200)
All of these add up to 78,875gp!!! Well, 39,437.5gp at half price.

10x blue whinnis doses (120 each)
2x terinav roots (400 each)

I left the potions, alchemical items, scrolls, wands, spellbooks, and formula books as group loot that we could still use in the future. Anything we should sell?

Exranadir has the spellbooks and Frantino the formula books. There's also Szuul's research to retune the portals. Supposedly these portals were found all around Thassilon, I think we should study and keep this information in case we come across other portals. (No idea what we could get for this information, either.)

These items I think we should distribute in the party rather than sell, perhaps some were already grabbed but not annotated:
amulet of natural armor +1
ring of protection +1
ring of feather fall
composite longbow +2 str (I thought someone already grabbed it?)
Lesser talismans (freedom, warrior's courage, arrow protection)

If no one wants the Ring of Protection, Nasir will take it. He already has an Amulet of Natural Armor, so someone else should use that.

I get that the equipment should sell of half price, but I feel that the Clay Golem Manual should sell for full price since it has everything to make a clay golem in it.

Should we consider keeping the manual and making our own clay golem? Does Doc have the spells on his spell list? If he does, then we could build this during downtime for only 1500gp with the manual.

This is for discussion, not how I (the player) think we have to do things. We should come to agreement as a group now that we're far enough along in the AP that we are outgrowing magic items or having to make decisions on body slots.

In my play experience or observation as a GM, if the item is something that you bought with your share of the funds then you get to keep that gold (even if only half) when you sell it. However, if the item is something that you took off the top of group loot then it's still group treasure (you are just using it) and that item would go back into the group pot to be borrowed by another or sold, just as if it had been sold from the beginning. For Frantino, Fury the halberd and the ring of feather fall are items that he is "borrowing", thus are group loot he is just using temporarily. Items he has purchased with his share of the funds, like his mithral buckler, are his and he'd get the half price back into his pouch should he decide to sell them. His formula book is his but the ones we found as loot in book 1 (there was a dwarven alchemist) and from Maga Szuul are group property. (I haven't copied the 2nd or 3rd level formulas into his book yet because I'm not sure if he'll take enough levels of investigator to be able to brew up extracts that high. Once I've made that decision and copied the additional formulas I want, if any, then those two books can be sold for the group's profit. Speaking of which, he'll also take a look at the spellbooks Ezranadir is using before we sell them, if some of those spells can be extracts he can convert those into formulas and copy them into his formula book, too. Sorry, for some reason Paizo made the decision that extract formulas can't be reverse engineered the same way without a feat...)

It can get messy in some corner cases, like what happens if Frantino upgrades Fury with his own funds and we later sell it, does the group get half of the original value and Frantino gets to keep his portion of the money (halved) that he spent upgrading it? And the high-cost items given one to each of us by the Sihedron Council can go either way, are they group loot or personal property?

That's for you as a group to decide since Ezranadir joined late. Ezranadir was going to put in his spellbook into the group funds for the betterment of the whole party even though it belonged to him. How far do you want to take it? Does he need to purchase the scrolls/potions/consumables from the group when they are used since they were discovered before he joined? Is he going to have to "purchase" the Blessed Book since it was found by the party but is now his new spellbook? Keep track of who uses the most out of the wand of Cure Light Wounds for them to put in the most even though the whole party put forth funds to pay for it? If a party member wants something but is short on funds then was willing to help pay for it. Next time someone else may need an upgrade and is short. It benefits the whole party like the Wand of Cure Wounds. Up to you guys how you want to do this.

I feel like we've trying to distribute items to those that can use them and try to be even doing it. I reordered our loot sheet and added a section that lists the items that each character is using. There seems to be enough to go around for everyone with the exception of Doc who doesn't have much. It looks like we have been trying to hand out the gear that we find to the people who can use it.

I'm good with whatever in terms of splitting loot. If you trade a like for like, as Ayita did with the lucerne hammer, then I think you should keep the money for what you traded when you sell it. I'm also good with letting it just fall where it may and if you get the item, you get the money when you sell it. That keeps it simple. If anyone needs some cash to buy the item they want, I say everyone can chip in. Ultimately, getting new magic items helps the entire group.

We need to think about what we can get Doc to make up for the lack of magic items he has.

The amulet of natural armor takes the neck slot, just like a necklace of three talismans which might be more useful to Doc. "Grappled? I don't think so!"

I'm torn on the clay golem manual. A clay golem could be useful, but is it worth the money we would each get from selling the manual? GM, could we try to negotiate a higher price at the Golemworks for a manual that might educate them on some ancient Thassilonian variation of a clay golem?

Diplomacy DC25:
The Golemworks is definitely interested. Previous experience suggests the ancient Golem Manual won't be effective in actually creating a golem. Something in the pre-Earthfall rituals and magic is lacking and usually won't succeed in creating a golem. And if it does, the golem always goes berserk within a day of its creation. Magnimar has had to pass a special law about it. But the Golemworks is interested in it for its magical-historical value. They'll pay you 65% of Core Rulebook value.

Frantino would be happy to accompany a more silver-tongued party member like Doc, aiding him by providing historical and magical context but certainly not taking the lead on these negotiations. He'll spend one of his uses of inspiration to come up with an additional angle.

Has the game stalled? Are we just waiting for Doc's Diplomacy roll? GM Derek, can you roll for him? It looks like he last posted on gameplay almost 2 weeks ago. Hope he is alright.

Any limits on what we can purchase? Can we upgrade from a +1 item to a +2 with the cost difference or have to purchase separately?

Should we consider spending more from the pool to get a wand of cure moderate wounds instead of or in addition to the wand of cure light wounds?

I think it is more cost effective to just purchase 6 Cure Light Wound Wands (750 gp each) for the price of a Cure Moderate Wand (4500 gp). More healing that way as well even though you have to go through 3 times the charges.

It's also slower, and sometimes speedy access to hit points is critical. Hopefully we'll have enough spellcaster healing though, Doc has a lot.

Perhaps a few potions would be good, or scrolls; scrolls are cheaper.

Looks like the CLW wands are more efficient for out-of-combat heals, good thing we have Doc for in-combat. He might be able to benefit from a second lesser empower metamagic rod to boost his emergency combat healing and/or a lesser reach rod so he doesn’t have to run up and touch us. My PFS life oracle from many years ago made use of them, or took the reach metamagic feat, I forget which. The normal and greater rods get expensive quickly.

If we pull the clay golem manual off the table for the moment pending discussions, this is how my math is mathing right now:

gold/gems/books: 46,352 – 1840 (restorations) – 2250 (three wands of CLW for now, buy more later?) = 42,262 gp

magic items except golem manual, swapping Ayita's +1 earthbreaker (2340) for the +1 lucerne hammer (2315), and adding Ezranadir’s spellbooks (2756) = 78,875 – 12,000 + 2340 - 2315 + 2756 = 69,656 gp, sold for half at 34,828 gp

Poisons 2000 gp sold for half at 1000 gp

Thus 42,262 + 34,828 + 1000 = 78,090 gp, split five ways is 15,618 gp each. Each additional wand of CLW will decrease our cut by 150gp each, which isn't a terrible investment. We can split the wands between Doc, Ayita, and Frantino to spread the healing around, especially if folks get separated.

If Doc talks well in our negotiations with the Golemworks, that’s 12,000 x 65% = 7800 gp / 5 = 1560 each on top of that distribution. (If he gets the information then we know that crafting the golem will be too risky for us, sorry. Could have made a useful tank.)

Enough to do some quick shopping now and get back on the boat, I assume we’ll be back in 10 days or so after a week of sailing round trip and a few days to find and chat with a dead runelord. Hopefully we don't find a portal that leads us to another dungeon complex, then another, then...

I'm torn on the clay golem manual. A clay golem could be useful, but is it worth the money we would each get from selling the manual? GM, could we try to negotiate a higher price at the Golemworks for a manual that might educate them on some ancient Thassilonian variation of a clay golem?

Doc's Diplo DC25 to get a 65% offer from Golemworks: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 14 + 2 = 20

FAIL.

They'll buy it for 50% of Core Rulebook
