Hi GM!
I am looking at the "Intrigued by Thassilon Helper" AP trait, sound ok?
I found yet another way to have a familiar and "trapfinding"... The "carnivalist" rogue archetype. Could be fun; she could have spent time with a Varisian carnival group.
I'll work on finalizing one of these a little more, but the "disable magical traps" ability is good for a party to have...

Intrigued by Thassilon sounds like a good trait. Go for it.
RE: a Varisian carnival group, recall that the Varisians and the Shoanti are offshoots of the same Thassilonian slaves from pre-Earthfall. So... cousins.

This is Thamius. I've tentatively built an investigator, eventually using a firearm, but I'm also toying with that occult investigator occultist instead. He wouldn't have trapfinding but would be a much stronger front line fighter and eventually a lot of utility and buffing.
I can't dot the gameplay. Looks like I needed to be added to the Players and Characters tabs! I think I'm the only one missing.

Anyone interested in taking the "Close Ally" trait with me?
I'd go close ally.
Since we have a healer and a muscle wizard, I was thinking of switching my wizard up and have been trying different builds most of the day.
Using the backgrounds optional rule made me think that crafting might be a thing. So I'm thinking of switching to play a wizard preparing to craft magic weapons for sure and maybe wondrous items eventually.
Will we be able to craft? If not, I'll jettison my current favored build and keep working. If so, I'll finish him up and present him for consideration.

There will be opportunities to craft magic items, primarily between adventures.

I was having odd problems with posting that resolved sometime during my messing around with my character, editing her, going to the Paizo "add 1e character" main site and adding her, stuff like that. I wasn't actively testing what fixed the issues so can't be more specific -- sorry! Some back end thing got updated somewhere during that.
My character will have trapfinding and some moderate social skills, performing, etc. Am considering either a hawk familiar or a parrot that says, "I'm a hawk!"
She is a Shoanti rogue, fairly benevolent, with a Varisian grandmother, and spent years in a carnival run by Varisian cousins.
GM: I'm thinking of the "family ties" drawback with both the Shoanti and Varisian sides of her family wanting things sometimes, what do you think?
GM Derek |
Happy Easter, Passover, spring equinox, weekend, ... Whatever you celebrate, wishing you and all of yours all the best.
Please, everybody, enjoy this time! Happy Easter, Happy Pesach, to all!

GM: I'm thinking of the "family ties" drawback with both the Shoanti and Varisian sides of her family wanting things sometimes, what do you think?
I think Family Ties would be good. Given your ACTUAL direct family is not in Roderics Cove (at least the Shoanti, side), for this to be a real drawback, the possibility of the family asking something of Ayita needs to be real. Perhaps you are feeling the familial cultural conflict of your Varisian vs Shoanti heritage. We could define your “family members” per the drawback as “Shoanti” and “Varisian.”
What do you think?

Sounds great, thanks! A drawback to the drawback, though... Hero Lab wants me to pay more to use drawbacks I think...

Looks good. Can you write up a short introduction? A background, so we know who you are and how/why are you in Roderic's Cove? Remember, all of you know each other. How do you know each other?

BACKGROUNDS
Please have the first draft of your backgrounds finished by Wednesday. We can all read them and fine tune how you all know each other, how you're all in Roderic's Cove, etc.
OPENING SCENE
I'll shoot for the opening scene to begin on Friday of this week, April 18.

I'm going Eldritch Knight, not muscle wizard. Tomato/tomahto, I'm sure. The difference is mostly whether you wear a shirt and how fast you solve a crossword puzzle.
So... Close Ally. Why are we allies? You can check out Kheiron's backstory and see if something in there sparks an idea for you.

I just tried again, still no luck. Every time I hit "Submit Post" it comes back as a preview, but it never actually submits the post. I tried doing it using this alias, my main account, and other aliases, but no difference.
EDIT: Seriously? I just tried it again but not just saying "dot" and it works??!!?? Sigh. I'm going to go occultist, a class I haven't played before but I've seen them be very effective at games I've GM'd. I'll be working it up right now.
I was also looking at the Intrigued by Thassilon trait, which makes sense for the occult investigator archetype, but as a half-elf I can make an easy link for Audrahni's Ally.

The ways of the Paizo website are mysterious and multitudinous. I shall not question, yet only say, “Fantastic!”
Audrahni’s Ally is great. Will be important.
Walfrenden |
So as I said, I went through and retooled as a wizard smith. I built a new character on Paizo so I could change the name.
Walfrenden is still an aphorite from Axis, but he has been travelling Golarion for a couple of years, working as a smith in different places, including Qadira and Riddleport.
For the close ally, Kheiron and Walf can have met relatively recently in Riddleport. They both are coming to wizardry later than most. They both come from extremely lawful, urbanized societies. And they are both strong for wizards. Walf is more lawful than Kheiron, and might play a role in helping Kheiron keep his baser urges in check.
Walf is a smith, so he may have made Kheiron's most recent bardiche or have offered to make him a masterwork one when they have materials available. He has a poleiheira adherent spellbook, which is hard for others to follow, but he may also have offered to allow Kheiron to copy spells from it when he is ready, if he can figure them out.
Perhaps Kheiron sees some of the better aspects of Chelaxian society in Walf and they remind him of the parts he liked and the innocence he had before Candleford. Maybe Kheiron sees how naive Walf is and has subconsciously taken to protecting him from the darker side of the world that Walf is just trying to explore.
So I think there are several reasons the two could have become close friends before the adventure starts. However, if after reading Walf's background you disagree, I can also go Audrahni's Ally.

I like the ideas you came up with. I can see them as an Odd Couple who each need something from the other - worldliness for Walf and decency for Kheriron. I also like the bit about Walf having forged Kheiron’s bardiche. That gives them a starting point. Walf could be the reason Kheiron pursues wizardry, perhaps as a form of self-discipline.
Like anyone who is lost by his own actions, Kheiron doesn’t think he needs to change. Even when he starts to change he won’t want to admit it, so I think there is plenty of role playing meat there. By the same token it may take some doing to get Walf to accept that Golarion’s realities are now his, too.

Sounds good! We'll have to stick together in combat to really get the benefit of this trait. That might lend itself to teamwork feats later. At first it may well mean Walf attacking to aid Kheiron against more dangeous foes.

Players, please join this game on Roll20 so we can all see and manipulate your PCs on the map.
https://app.roll20.net/join/6809869/mD2U3A
I've created Characters for each of you. Those of you already in the game have been given "control" of them. Please add an avatar/pic/icon to the character and then drag it onto the battle map. For those of you who are not yet in the game, let me know when you've joined and I'll give you control of your characters so you can create an icon for them.
A great place to easily create icon/avatars/token: Token Stamp.

I entered my character, but I couldn't get the avatar onto the map, nor could I drag and drop the token I created. I use Token Tool, which works quite well, too.
I can email you the token.
I messed around with crafting weapons the past two nights. The good news is Walf will be able to craft the masterwork weapon of your choice for 1/3 of the cost, taking 2 days to craft each one. The not so good news is Walf will be able to craft the masterwork armor of your choice for 1/3 the cost, taking a lot longer. Armor's a lot harder to craft and Walf isn't as good at it. A suit of masterwork full plate would take him 61 days to craft. Even a masterwork breastplate would take 6 days.
So he'll probably be able to make everyone a masterwork weapon at some point and magic it up, but if you want masterwork or magic armor, especially things that cost more than a breastplate, you should plan on saving up for it.
I put a proposed description of the relationship between Walf and Kheiron in my background, both here and on Roll20, feel free to suggest changes.
I realized in entering my character that web bolt is a racial spell for drow. Can I take it and say I've encountered drow in my wanderings, or should I switch it out for something else?

Switch it out. Highly unlikely you encountered any drow.

Okay, I've sent my token, and I think I'm pretty much done with broad strokes on background. If anyone wants to tie in with my background, let me know.

Take a look now.
I see the tokens, but not the others' character sheets to read bios. Can you make those visible to all players when you get a chance? Thank you!

A couple of things:
1. Could we please get a Roll20 link on the main page (where you have the Intro to PbP)?
2. I think our battle map would look better with more consistent tokens. Do we want to try to standardize them a little?

Sure. It is both in my profile line AND in the Campaign Info that appears at top of screen.
I think your idea of standardization of tokens is a good idea. I was planning on all monsters have a hexagon border, BUT... since I bought the entire adventure from Roll20, the 100s of NPCs and monsters are ALREADY circles by default.
Therefore, all PLAYER CHARACTERS ought to be hexagons. So... please make all tokens hexagons, instead of circles. Sorry. I know some have already sent me tokens and they'll need to be redone
GM Derek |
Hello, all:
We're getting close to starting this thing! Please ensure that your Paizo.com alias has the entire character record sheet in it. Include botting instructions in case the GM needs to bot you while you're away.
Example: Buff the front line, then cast magic missile [ dice=Magic missile]2d4+[/dice] and move out of melee range.
Your alias' class/level line should include class, level, HP, ac, touch ac, flat footed ac, saves, initiative, perception and any other frequently used skill checks.
Example: Class Level | HP 0/0 | AC 15| T 12 | FF 13 | F +1, R +4, W +3 | Init +2 | Perc +5 | Sen Mot +5
I also include dice expressions for my most common rolls (usually attacks) in that line. This allows me to cut-n-paste easily on my iPhone. But YMMV. Everybody does it a bit differently.
While we're primarily PbP (as opposed to realtime play via Roll20) your token on Roll20 should have only HP listed in the Red circle of the token. This allows us to visually see how badly you're injured. It can either be manually inserted or you can link your Roll20 character record sheet's "HP" field to it (assuming you've gone the extra mile and filled in the character record sheet on Roll20).

Hi folks -- I've made some progress with Ayita's background and info in the "Character" area here.
Re. my own background: I'm a university library web programmer, and am currently working from home during these stressful times. I'm glad to have a job and health, at the moment! I garden, walk, do environmental volunteering, and various other things in my free time.
I have played various RPGs for several decades since college, including PFS 1e, 2e, and a bit of Starfinder in recent years. I've never done an AP the whole way but have done almost all of the 1e regular scenarios. I tend to prefer nonhuman characters with nature-oriented themes, but am branching out here based upon what I understand of the region our characters are in. Creating the character is one of the best parts for me.
Very nice to meet you all, and I'm looking forward to this a lot.

If we multiclass, are we using the optional Fractional Base Bonus rules from Pathfinder Unchained, pp 40-41?
As far as my background trait, Audrahni's Ally, I'm tying my background to the "Where she grew up" question. Please email me the info so that I can modify something in my background to link to her.

The Roll20 charactermancer sheet thing lacks a lot of stuff we are using, like the AP traits, many fairly common feats, etc. etc. So while I sorta started filling it in, I stopped and that version is incomplete...
Per GM Derek's messages, though, it sounds like our main character info should be in the Paizo setup, here.
I'm still working on the Background Draft; if anything doesn't fit the scenarios, or tweaks would help our characters connect, I'm happy to do that.

I like her background. Can you add another paragraph about her time in Roderic's Cove? Maybe she's met a wonderful group of fellow adventurers (five of them, in fact)? Traded stories of Thassilonian ruins? She is, after all, Intrigued by Thassilon. She'd be amazed to know some people still can speak the Thassilonian language!
