Boomer Forgehammer |
Boomer quickly tries to open the cage. "Le..l...let me get you out of there! Tell me wha..wha... t happened."
Disable device w/o tools: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 2 = 23
Zahd Mullman |
Please kill angry tooth fairy shark lady. Even I can't stand Zahd anymore.
"This, of course, raises the question: where did violence begin in the first place?"
Stefan Mariano |
Stefan moves back to get some room to charge the fey.
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
Xavier takes another swing at Lady Gormandelle.
Swim: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26, 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (2) = 3
Hoo Hullo |
Hoo holds her defensive position, (20 ac) realizes she 's in a good position to try to box Lady Gormanelle into the corner.
"Youg guys better be doing important! Need support! Lady cornering herself!"
The World's Most Interesting GM |
Stefan moves back to get some room to charge the fey.
Just be aware that Stefan cannot officially, mechanically charge through water (a deep bog in this case) without a swim speed as the medium Stefan would be moving through hampers his movement.
Know too that I am proposing to end this this week, one way (the PCs win and beat her) or another (they don't and therefore do not get her treasure).
Xavier takes another swing at Lady Gormandelle.
Like an Antaeus of the sea, Lady Gormandelle seems utterly unbeatable within her element. Hit, no damage.
Vozzik Astrana |
As Zahd continues to scold everyone, Xavier swings his slow moving cudgel through the water, the force of his swing causing him to loose whatever balance he had in the water. It brushes his evasive target, but not enough to damage her.
Um...you saw he switched to Rapier, right? No slow moving cudgel, no half damage. I'm also going to assume he's not in that square, and will be putting Vozzik there as soon as it's cleared. Vozzik reloads and hopes to get a clear shot next round.

I know my staff itself isn’t going to do much damage. Thats why I gave it holy strike (which I'm pretty sure ignores DR, since it's a supernatural ability), so I’m still doing damage.
Holy Strike does bypass DR against creatures vulnerable to "good" weapons. The little fey lady is vulnerable to cold iron. It still adds an additional d6 to the waepon's damage output, because she is evil (just not high enough level evil to actually register on the spell detect evil.)

You are right, I did forget that, but it's not enough to improve damage this last time (it's damage 3 v DR 5), but the time before with holy strike, and no -2 to hit, means he criticalled causing a combined 8 points of damage - DR 5 for 3. This is a correction to a previous ruling where I just went with Xavier's thoughts not really having the time to dive deep. I am persuadable but I'm pretty sure I'm right on this one.

Boomer Forgehammer |
Boomer moves closer to the fey and stands facing her in a guarded stance.
Total Defense: +4 AC
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
Xavier takes another swing.
Swim: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24, 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (6) = 7
Hoo Hullo |
"I- H- Yes sir!"
Hoo dashes past boomer defensively (20 AC), willingly accepting the inevitable opportunity attack to get to the person in the cage.
I'm gonna take out and then use the wand next turn, just for tactical clarity
Vozzik Astrana |
2 precision damage to Xavier's hit, please!
Vozzik takes his shot.
Hand Crossbow into melee: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19 Critical Threat
Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19 Crit if hit!
Cold Iron Piercing critical damage: 2d4 + 0 ⇒ (1, 1) + 0 = 2
...honestly, I almost hope that's a miss.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
2 precision damage to Xavier's hit, please!
And at last the strange little woman seems to disappear for good beneath the waves.
RESULTS!

Hoo Hullo |
Hoo uses the wand on the fellow in the cage
clw wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"Vozzik, I did the thing, what now?"
Zahd Mullman |
As Zahd spots lady gormandelle falling beneath the waters, he ceases lecturing the party and runs over (as much as one can run in this environment) to where the tooth fairy commander fell. He wears a pained expression.
"What? No! What? N... No! Why? Were none of you listening to me? Do you not have any sense of reason?"
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
Xavier provides whatever healing people need and then begins praying to Cayden to grant him more of The Drunken God's divine power.
Taking time to prepare protection from evil into his remaining open spell slot so he can free Zahd.
CLW (Wand) on Virml: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
I don't think anyone else really needs it. If anyone thinks they do, tell me.
Boomer Forgehammer |
Boomer reaches beneath the water in an attempt to grab the fey witch. After the trouble she caused, he intends on holding her accountable.
Stefan Mariano |
With the fey gone Stefan relaxes a bit but still has his guard up. He approaches the others near the cage and asks: "Is he still alive in there?"
Vozzik Astrana |
Vozzik grimaces in frustration. Then starts casting around desperately for whatever remains of the tooth fairies he can find.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
"Nithe one, Hoo! Can, uh...can you guyth help me try and find my tooth?"

A paper-filled waterspout forms near the sight of Lady Gormandelle. The spout rises to the ceiling carrying bits of glowing scroll that vanish like ghosts the moment strike the stonework. A second after that the spout collapses upon itself.
There is no sign of the little shark woman.
Vozzik grimaces in frustration. Then starts casting around desperately for whatever remains of the tooth fairies he can find.
"Nithe one, Hoo! Can, uh...can you guyth help me try and find my tooth?"
Vozzik starts a search for his tooth, but before the fairies exploded they seemed to have collected a lot of teeth from the man in the cage, and many of the stuffed beasts in the room, the floor of the room is a filled with loose teeth some of them kicked beneath displays, or crushed by the party's boots.
Basically, this will take some in-game time. Most people couldn't ID their own teeth in a pile of similar teeth without trying to fit it first. Discuss, and let me know how long you want to take to search, and then give me some perception rolls (1/searcher). Vozzik can keep his current roll. I should note this is ability damage (not drain) and another tooth fairy will be sent out the next time Vozzik sleeps to replace the missing tooth (free of charge!) and heal his Charisma.
Virml |
Hoo uses the wand on the fellow in the cage
"Vozzik, I did the thing, what now?"
The magical healing seals Virml's bleeding gums, and improves his general greenish pallor a bit.
After a moment, he looks around, and speaks.
"Thwang goodbehs you are heay, who-ebbah you are." he burbles though his ruined mouth. "Ah, it was howwahbhul, simpwee howwahbhul."
At this point, he looks beat up, but is otherwise okay. Xavier may heal him some more or save his wand's charge.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
What are folks up too?
Vozzik Astrana |
Thanks for the reassurances! Vozzik is vain, self-centered, and unfamiliar with tooth fairy-based dental replacement plans, I'm afraid, and will spend a minute searching regardless of what the party does, although he will listen in to any conversation that occurs with Virml.
Hoo Hullo |
Hoo immediately pipes up
"You know where the water is from? We move fast, maybe still save the books!"
Stefan Mariano |
Stefan watches the water spout and notices the bits of glowing scroll and starts looking for it.

[dice=Perception]1d20+5
The scroll bits fade and disappear completely just before they hit the vaulted ceiling. There's nothing left to find, and not really anyway to tell if they were even the fragments the party has been searching for. Stafan can of course for effect toss some submerged displays and splash around a bit for effect though, since it was Boomer who first noticed the waterspout.
Hoo urges folks on while Stefan and Vozzik tear through the water in search of different things.
Stefan Mariano |
The somewhat familiar voice reaches Stefan's ear and he stops his searching. The last time he heard it was before the party entered the archives and the voice's owner definitely did not join them.
"What trickery is this! Another of that fey's spells? Well I will not be tricked again!" Stefan growls as he draws his sword and approaches the toothless man.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
In the face of all the shouting and threats, Virml cowers in the water in confusion.
Zahd Mullman |
Zahd grumbles about "barbarians" and "ignoramuses". As Stefan begins approaching Virml, Zahd makes a snide comment under his breath about "how predictable this aggression is."
Hoo Hullo |
"ZAHD! WE BEEN TRICKED! hhhhhhhh How does the water, how do we stop it? The scroll bits? The ceiling? I know, nothing about magics"
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
Xavier tries to get between Virml and the rest of the group. "Wait! We don't know which one is real. Someone needs to let him out so we can get answers."
Hoo Hullo |
"Uhm... why would this one be fake? Fairy stole the teeth, why would a fake be made just to be in-caged? The first virml, the virml outside, he's not real. That's my words."
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
"I agree with Hoo. This one is probably the real one."
I know, I'm mainly just trying to get Stefan to not kill him.
Stefan Mariano |
The other's comments manage to bring Stefan to his senses and he considers the possibility.
"Very well. Let us hear his tale." he says as some of the tension leaves him though he is still on guard.
Vozzik Astrana |
Still searching, Vozzik says, "Forgive my fellow Pathfinderth, Virml, they know not the pain we feel. My thympathieth. My name ith..." he grimaces briefly, then carefully shapes his mouth to pronounce "Vozzik."
Virml |
"I agree with Hoo. This one is probably the real one."
"'Pwababwe da weal one?'" repeats the toothless Virml looking confused at the bobbing halfling.

Once he feels he is safe Virml tells his tale.
"One minue I wath readin a ssroll I foun, and tha neth it wath all rippeh ta threads an flyin all aroun like a tornahdah and theigh wath thith foth talkin ta me about riddleth an a conteth or somethin tha happeneh a long time ago. Stefan Mariano |
Scratching his head Stefan tries his hand at understanding the toothless man.
"Let me see if I got this straight: You read an unfamiliar scroll, triggered its magic and somehow summoned a fox? who was looking for a book on riddles and about the First World. The two of you came here, he read a scroll fragment, summoning the fey and left. Leaving you here with the fey. That right?"
Boomer Forgehammer |
Boomer listens to the toothless man's story, piecing most of it together. "D..d..do you know where this f..f..fox is now? Maybe he is the fake Vir...vir..virml..."
