From inside: "Can you give us a minute? Enlarge person takes a whole round, and Xorlotz needs to re-up his mirror image. We didn't think it would take you this long."
Stefan Will save DC 17.
More to follow in a few minutes.
Correction be back later this evening.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
A thin waterfall drops from a grate in the ceiling fifteen feet above, creating a curtain in the doorway to this flooded room. Beyond, mounted animal heads glower from virtually every inch of every wall. Stuffed specimens also lurk beneath the dark water, their antlers, horns, and claws breaking the surface here and there. In the eastern corner, a large gilded cage sits mostly submerged, its waters thick with embalmed birds bobbing at the surface.
Standing high up on the far wall, upon the head of what appears to be an iron-plated bison, is a small pale woman, with skin covered in the fine scales, and white hair rolled into long dreadlocks that cover her dainty nudity. A halo of drifting light motes illuminate the space around her.
The PCs may each roll one knowledge check for each of the described creatures and open all the spoilers that apply to their result.

Stefan brushes his clothes off in an attempt to look presentable before looking up at the woman. "Ahem. Greetings my lady! Stefan Mariano at your service." he says as he introduces himself with a bow.
Boomer Forgehammer |
Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Looking about the room, Boomer immediately spots the grogon head that the strange lady is standing on. "Uhh. Hi there, M...m..iss. What are you d..doing in here on that g..g...gor..gon head?" He glances over at Stefan who seems rather taken by this lady.

Pardon me for being a complete brainlet. I have been in a fugue state for the past week. I'll be making that nature check now. I didn't do so when I made my earlier post because a combination of the quarantine and the fact that I started watching JoJo's godforsaken adventure, my brain has dissolved completely.

No worries.
"Anything for milady." Stefan says in a dazed voice as he enters the room.
"And your friends? Please come in. Relax in my pool. All are welcome but-" and her voice suddenly turns serious "there is a price.... It will cost you a smile." At the revelation her voice once more grows sweet, and joking even if her own tatterdemalion smile is slightly off-putting.

Lady Gormandelle coyly deflects the question "Now, now, now. Smiles and introductions first."
Vozzik Astrana |
Would Vozzik have been able to spot the Charm effect with Detect Magic and/or Spellcraft (+4, if relevant)? I believe it's mathematically impossible for him to detect it via Sense Motive, so...
Vozzik rolls his eyes as he enters following Stefan and Boomer (I will note that you two have not actually moved yourself on the map; I will wait to position Vozzik until you have done so.), saying to his companions, "Again with these interlopers claiming our property as their own!" Changing his intense focus to Gormandelle he counters "I am Vozzik Astrana, and my associates and I are representatives of the Pathfinder Society. If there's to be price negotiations then we're happy to discuss occupancy charges for your presence here in our facility; I'm afraid the damage deposit is probably a lost cause, at this point."
If Vozzik is able to get within 30 feet he will make her the subject of his Hypnotic Stare
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
Xavier wades into the room, his head barely poking up above the water. Seeing the submerged animals, he smiles, and attempts to clamber on top of one of them to get a better perch.
Can I do that?
Climb: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Still holding his glowing rapier to shine light into the room, Xavier opens his mouth to speak. "My name is..." He stops on the "z" sound at the start of his name, and looks back at Stefan. "...Xavier.", he says, somewhat dejectedly. "Xavier Elington."
I was thinking about lying about his name and introducing myself as "Zanzibar Evanston" or something, but Stefan would probably have corrected me, and that would cause some problems.
He begins to survey the room. "Nice place you got here..." he says absentmindedly.
Is there a crocodile head on one of the walls?

I'm gonna say no just based upon angle through the doorway, and the noisy, obscuring waterfall draining through the ceiling. If Vozzik maintained his concentration on detect magic throughout all the door banging he might have noticed two auras flash into effect, the first early on and the second (the charm) just now, meaning he would need to continue to concentrate this round and the next (and limiting movement in the deep boggy conditions) to get a better picture of what the aura means.

Climbing stuffed animal trophies is a DC 10. Missing by 5 means a fall. Xavier climbs up a precarious-looking stuffed axe beak with predictable results. *SPLASH!*
Let's move into rounds if only for movement.

I've never heard of concentration hampering movement outside of being subjected to violent motion requiring concentration checks, but if that's your call Vozzik would drop the Detect once he and the party began moving into the room. Edit: duh, it's the standard action slowing you down, stupid! Right, so, stopped as soon as we started moving.
Let me know when we're in the next "round." Don't forget to move your tokens, everyone!
Lady Gormandelle |
It is indeed the standard action to concentrate that is slowing you down. Now you can still take your move action (to wade, swim, or even climb) but you can only take one and still maintain concentration. I play a lot of illusionists.
I'm just going to place Xavier in an appropriate spot, assuming someone was either carrying him and placed him on the wrong end of an axe beak, or that he swam in. And I'll crowd Zahd in as well.

"'Library?'" the feral-looking little fairy woman says. "What sort of library has water running through it? And do they not have what the mortals call 'books?'"
"There are no books here child. Only big beautiful smiles." she beams.
"Why stay in such a dreary place as this? My lady should be out and be seen by as many people as possible that they might bask in your beauty!"Stefan says in what he thinks is a charming way with a smile full of sharp teeth.
"You flatter me Stefan but please let me hear your words away from the noise of the waterfall."
New round. Note on lighting dancing fairy lights illuminate Gromandelle's end of the room.

Vozzik's vigilant regard of the fae creature becomes Hypnotic as he continues to approach her. Conjuring his best air of authority, he counters "Oh, no, I don't think so. Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29), and we have certainly not abandoned this facility. My friend here sometimes misspeaks; the Society's Archives are much more than simple libraries. Something you would surely know about a place you 'have always been,' I would think. No, I think you know fully well that you are the intruder here, and it is you and your kind that is responsible for all of the damages from this water. You can help remunerate for the necessary repairs, or you can be off on your way...unwillingly, if need be."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24

Zahd, after pondering what he should say, walks into the room with the air of one about to ask a philosophical question before hearing Vozzik's words. After listening, he lightly shrugs and nods along.
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
Xavier, after hearing Vozzik's speech, holds his head in his hands and starts shaking his head. "Don't... that's just going to make it worse... we need to play along..." he mutters to himself.
He tries again to climb onto one of the animals.
Climb: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
He once again splashes into the water.

Xavier is going to try once more to get onto one of the stuffed creatures.
Climb: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
He finally makes it. Shifting between smiling at Lady Gormandelle and glaring at Vozzik, he shouts, "I'm sure my colleague didn't mean that, did you, Vozzik? Surely we can come to a peaceable agreement if we agree not to threaten you're domain and you agree to call off your friends."

To be clear, my previous post was an Intimidation check to attempt to improve attitude, not to Demoralize. If her tactics say that intimidation is interpreted as a hostile act then so be it, but...
Knowledge:Nature: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
OK, Vozzik certainly has no idea what those are...My second implanted instance of Mesmeric Mirror triggers as a free action as soon as I am targeted for attack by the pink things, causing a second Vozzik to appear next to the original for the next minute, and you will need to make a 50% miss chance on that roll. If it still hits:
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
...well, I hope you missed. I'll save any actions until we resolve what just happened to him.
Stefan Mariano |
"For the lady! Raggh!" Stefan turns and attacks Boomer upon receiving the command.
Longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Stefan Mariano |
Sorry. I don't have any experience with Charm Person during combat. How should it affect me?
Vozzik Astrana |
Here's the relevant text from the spell, emphasis mine:
The spell does not enable you to control the charmed person as if it were an automaton, but it perceives your words and actions in the most favorable way. You can try to give the subject orders, but you must win an opposed Charisma check to convince it to do anything it wouldn't ordinarily do. (Retries are not allowed.) An affected creature never obeys suicidal or obviously harmful orders, but it might be convinced that something very dangerous is worth doing. Any act by you or your apparent allies that threatens the charmed person breaks the spell.
That last bit would be why she interrupted me before I got my Intimidate in. As soon as any of us do anything threatening to her, the spell breaks.
Boomer Forgehammer |
With all the water around and all the room to cover, Boomer tries his hands at swimming to get a better line of sight.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Double move for 15ft.
Stefan Mariano |
My interpretation of harmful orders is something that would hurt my PC. I didn't think it meant "doing harm to others". In that case here's what I'll do:
"You shouldn't fight. Fighting is bad you know." Stefan says as he stares at the lady.
Zahd Mullman |
Here goes.
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
"Dear goodness, it's!.. tooth fairies? I suppose it makes some sense, but..."
Zahd clears his throat, after which he nervously explains "I concur with Xavier; There's no need for us to come to blows! We can arrive at a reasonable arrangement!"
Diplomacy (helping Xavier): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Hoo Hullo |
"AGREEING WITH ZAHD! SORRY FOR VOZZIK'S BEING RUDE! DON'T WANT TO FIGHT YOU, BUT I REALLY WILL FIGHT YOUR, 'TOOTH FAIRIES,' PROTEXTING VOZZIK"
Hoo takes a move action to run behind Stefan, and readies her standard action to attack a tooth fairy once it is no longer receiving cover from one of her allies. She will not attack if they are called off by the time they aren't in cover.
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington |
"Tooth fairies." Xavier shakes his head, laughing. "I'm starting to get the feeling that this is just some drunken fever dream."

More like when someone on CNN calls out Trump for lying or merely being wrong and then gets labelled as "Nasty".

That is a hit. More tonight after work.

Stefan has the right of it. The spell is worded from the caster's POV. If she or any of her obvious allies do anything threatening to Stefan he slips free of the charm. (Currently the tooth fairies loyalties are vague at best.) Generally when you are charmed, you won't attack friends, but then really you all only just met a few minutes ago. ;) Even still you probably don't stab anyone, though a charmed person who saw their "new friend" being threatened by another ally might interpose themselves, grapple an attacker, cast a sleep at them, or otherwise interfere in hopes of keeping the peace between all of his friends new and old.
Vozzik goes as stiff as a plank.
"You have insulted me in my home!" cries Gormandelle.
It doesn't look as though you are going to get the chance to use diplomacy.

I don't think Vozzik's initial mirror image is up anymore. The fairy that missed biting Vozzik last round came within 5 of hitting which falls within the "near miss" range of an image.
