Boomer somehow maintains his feet on the narrowest of ledges provided by the embedded crossbow bolt. Seeing no reason to stay where he is, he attempts to launch himself as far as he can into the drink to avoid the need to swim. "L...l...look out below!" Instead, he just tumbles into the water as his foot slips on the small foothold. He then shakes his head off and continues on.
RAW aren't clear how a failure of less than 4 is handled if a character is jumping into the wild blue yonder. If you deem he falls prone, he uses his standard action to stand. If he lands on his feet, he moves forward at 1/4 his speed (5')
I'm pretty certain you still do the "falling thing" and land prone, so I'm going with that. There's no damage as Boomer is falling into nearly 5' of water.

Stefan curses as he loses his grip and drops to the floor.

I'm just going to assume Stefan rights himself as his move after falling.

With a growl Stefan picks himself up and tries to climb again.

As Zahd begins verbally citing sources for the ascension of pacifist mercantile empires, one can't help but wonder if he has finished his auditory essay or if he is listing the footnotes on page one.

Boomer steps up to the fey witch with his earth breaker raised over his head, "I...I've got you now!" The hammer starts to glow bright as it slams down at the viscous creature.
Boomer slowly drags the bludgeoning head of his earthbreaker through the water (-2 to hit/half damage) brushing the nimble little piranha woman. Hit, but no damage (including precision/scorching) .
Everyone else misses, by a lot.
Making the only sensible choice, Stefan climbs out of the water so as not to be bitten. He shakes off like a treed dog.

Hoo, you literally can't damage her with that thing. Please see the Discussion tab.

Let it suffice to say that more of the same happens with Zahd.
"...truly stop us from getting along? No; we can break the bonds of fear and anger to..."

![]() |

With Boomer's hit, did you take into account that his weapon is cold-iron?

Lady Gormandelle |

Arrows and swords rain down upon the water but only Xavier's cudgel slowly brushes up against the little monster's hide as she zips by the sling part of the staff working like a little parachute, causing drag, and slowing his swing.

I had originally, but by the time I got around to posting it slipped my mind. Corrected below. Just another 74 hp to get through and you're done! ;)

With all the happening so far Stefan lets out a frustrated growl as he walks forward and flanks the fey with Vozzik before slashing at her with his sword. "First thing I do once I have the money is buy a cold iron weapon."

Vozzik who is wielding a hand crossbow and does not threaten, and thus cannot provide flanking, frustrated, withdraws.

Boomer notices the gilded cage for likely the first time and makes the slowest beeline for it, hoping to find something that will benefit them in this fight.

![]() |

Zahd continues to extrapolate on the many follies of anger and the many triumphs of diplomacy. It's almost impressive how many synonyms he knows for the words "fight" and "peace", considering he's technically yet to repeat his own words but has been reiterating the exact same points for several rounds now.

Hoo lunges past Stefan in an attempt to grapple with the Lady
cmb: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Does 18 still hit?
That depends (aquatic terrain, flanking, etc...). Stefan does hit this time, but half of 7 is 3 and DR 5 drags that down to 0.
Hoo lunges past Stefan in an attempt to grapple with the Lady
That's a miss, and it is an unimproved grapple so there's a possible attack of opportunity involved that Gormandelle.
*CHOMP!*

Xavier drops his staff and draws his rapier. After saying a quick prayer, it also begins to glow with holy light.

![]() |

I know this is a bad idea, just, uggh
If you shoot it with your bow, 1/3rd-ish of the time you will do enough damage to penetrate the DR, and Vozzik can add a couple of damage once per round when it actually hits.

Vozzik, satisfied to see a little damage done, withdraws again.

Zahd continues his seemingly endless berating of the other PCs. Granted, it is rather polite and scholarly for such a fundamental disagreement in morality and methods, but it is still a sort of scolding anyways.

![]() |

Stefan looks towards Boomer and readies himself to respond to any attacks.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

As Zahd continues to scold everyone, Xavier swings his slow moving cudgel through the water, the force of his swing causing him to loose whatever balance he had in the water. It brushes his evasive target, but not enough to damage her. And doesn't seem to be any where in range of her either, but eh.
Boomer continues on his beeline to the gilded cage, attempting to swim there instead of slogging through the deep water. He makes it adjacent to the cage.
Aside from the plethora of brightly colored stuffed birds perched along the sides of the display cage and floating like rainbow pond scum on its surface, Boomer notes the unconscious man floating within. One arm pushed through the bars to keep his head above the rising waters. What's more, he knows this man.
