Just trying to keep everyone/everywhere straight in my mind. This is were we are:
* Sho”yarhine, Brannart, Yraelzin, and Fenna are together having an argumentdiscussion in Mugget.
* Nymbleth on his way to Mugget.
* Malakar on the Peregrine.
* Vexas on the docks.
* Merrek of Outsea and Akron the Thunderer have not posted yet.
Nymbleth, sounds about right. I just posted for you so you can catch up to the group, if you desire.
I have sent PM's to our tentative MIA players.
I have a way for the search party to meet up with Malakar and I need to work on a scheme to mix Vexas in this whole thing.
Should be fun! Thanks for breaking it down. I think I need a wall in my house with different colored string kind of like if I was working on a conspiracy theory. :)
Fenna Pender |
Fenna is definitely in Brannart's camp. But, c'mon, actually it's Brannart who's going to be in Fenna's camp :)
Milanites are much the same as Caydenites, but without the extra, fun hobbies on the side.
I don't see Fenna as being too ruffled by Yraelzin's presence. She's just not going to take him that seriously. Her approach will be more to pester and poke fun at him. It would take something big for her to think of him as any kind of real threat.

Yeah, apologies, I got going too slow to be in the mix for the search party.
I thought it might be interesting to see if he could try his hand at conning his way onto the boat, having heard about a possibly treasure score. So he's gathering info to devise the best possible approach with the orc on the docs, figure out who the captain is (who they *really* are), etc. It would be interesting if he happened to run into somebody with a beef with the orc or captain, or some other more personal entanglement :)
Fenna Pender |
I have a feeling by the third book, I might have to plan a wedding. Who is getting married still has to be worked out though. Heck we even have a shark and possibly a dinosaur. The possibilities are endless. :)
It will be Sho and somebody. She and Fenna are going to be BFF's without a doubt! Along with being an expert urban tracker, Fenna is also an expert amateur matchmaker. She'll get Sho hooked up for sure. ;)
Fenna Pender |
But… I don't want to get married.
You will when the time comes. Fenna will find just the right person, and she's an expert at persuasion. :p
Vexas Flamespark |
Yup, you've given me a hook to work with :)
Brannart Teskerwill |
If it would be okay, I might want to make a few minor tweaks to Brannart after this prologue. Like, maybe he has higher Cha but lower Wis (more forceful personality but a bit impulsive). I am still figuring out who he is.
@Fenna - I like Milani a lot and am playing a Milani cleric in War for the Crown. Trying to reconcile how to combine revolutionary anti-tyranny zeal with an 18 Wis. Not sure what the DC is to recognize Milani's holy symbol, but Brannart will take ranks in Knowledge (Religion) as some of his memories from the Worldwound come back to him.
Nymbleth |
irl I once rolled 3 20’s in a row.

I know tone can be hard to parse in text, so I just wanted to clarify that my intent is for Yraelzin to be sometimes off-putting or even mildly annoying in-character, but hopefully wryly amusing out of character. The idea is that he is naïve, over-confident, and prone to dramatic statements that often come across as goofy to outsiders. For fans of Buffy, a bit like how Wesley is when he first appears in Season 2. The idea with the internal monologue is to have fun with the contrast between his inner thoughts and outward actions.
He's also trained in how to take credit for the actions of others, and how to give "orders" that he knows people will carry out anyway because they already want to. Again, this is supposed to be part of the fun of the character and a representation of how his faith spreads.
But all that being said, if anyone is getting annoyed in real-life, please just let me know and I can dial it back. In tabletop, you can read people's faces and see how a character is coming across, but that's a lot harder in play-by-post.
Malakar_Paradise |
Oh my real life is a pain I have a bit to catch up on. Btw in reference to Dinosaur and shark meet Epicus Maxiums This is an actual creature from World of warcraft. A rocket propelled shark with a laser beam being ridden by a dino being ridden by an undead playing guitar.

@Vexas - Meta-Gaming here: At this point, I do not see a way to get our Halfling to the docks. He seems quite content, being fed and comfortable, in an upscale inn. Unless he decides to walk off the flounder down by the docks and check out the Peregrine and the other ships or just to stargaze, I do not see a way to get him to the climax of the prelude. If you are okay with that, I will continue with the other pc's. Sorry, just running out of ideas.
Vexas Flamespark |
Yeah, I was hoping we would be able to gather some more info about the crew; also didn't realize the climax was happening in the current evening. Worst case, he can just take a walk and happen by the boat.

I am open to ideas, just running out of creative juice on my side. I had more time with the other pc's to fit them in the storyline and attempt to gather them together. Sorry, just did not have enough on the crew to get you where you need to be in the time I had. I'll leave it up to you if Vexas wants to take a walk or you have an idea I havn't thought of. I am surly open to ideas. I'm humble enough to admit I need an assist on this one.
Fenna Pender |
Don't have time to look at the code right this moment, and Fenna's been plenty busy anyway. Time for someone else to have their moment.
Brannart Teskerwill |
I'm normally a big fan of puzzles, but Brannart wouldn't have stuck around for searching the warehouse, so I sat that one out. It was well done.
I did switch his stats a bit, with Cha 12 and Wis 8 rather than 10 in both.
Fenna noting him as being "kinda hot, in a rough but weary way that's really working for him" is probably what he should be. I know that optimally a fighter would dump-stat Cha down to a 7 to boost physical stats, but Cha 7 just isn't Brannart. He's not a wallflower, nor off-putting. I think given the size of this party we will not need to optimize much, and in fact it might be better not to.
As to the lower Wisdom, he can be a bit impulsive and is not (at this point in his life, at least) particularly disciplined. His Will save will be fine in time. For the first few levels it will be a weakness.

Your doing a great job RPing the character. He's a lot of fun, and I really like him. He should get to show off real soon when battle commences.
Nymbleth |
Is the ship docked or would we have to get in a boat and row to it?
Fenna Pender |
@Brannart: My War for the Crown character is an investigator who is a Milani worshipper also. Her rational for supporting Eutropia rather than something more radical is Galt. Completely removing the monarchy would be too much change too quickly. It could easily spin out of control.
Nymbleth |
In my hart I wanted to agree with Yraelzin’s plan.
Nymbleth |
The information in my alias is finalized.
Brannart Teskerwill |
@Fenna - my cleric is much the same way. Just as clerics of Sarenrae recognize fire as a sacred but dangerous tool and are not arsonists, my cleric of Milani recognizes revolution as such a tool, and is trying to avoid the Galt outcome.
@Nymbleth - Brannart is operating on the principle of "What would Cayden do?" and the foolhardy bravery of that god is another reason I think Wis 8 is right for him. He's not going to be a total Leroy Jenkins but with kids taken captive by slavers, that's not going to inspire him to be prudent and patient.
Nymbleth |
@ Brannart- no worries, great RP, I knew where you were going with it.
GM Mioki |
I probably was not clear on this, but Fenna is correct. You all were able to move closer, within a 100 ft or so, with no stealth needed due to how dark the night is.
Is Fenna's plan still viable, or should I assume Brannart, Nymbleth, and Yraelzin are walking down the dock with weapons drawn?
Will wait for Sho's post in a few hours to finalize things.
Vexas, feel free to jump in and play the nosy Halfling. :)
On the other side, Just need to know what Malakar and Merrek plan to do.
Fenna Pender |
Fenna's plan probably isn't a great one. She'll likely end up failing the climb check and falling into the water.
But I suggested it because our most fundamental problem is the lack of a quick way onto the ship. Either way we end up climbing, and if the ship is alert we climb into an opposing group at the top.
The ideal pair to sneak aboard is Vexus and Fenna, one climb check vs. two stealth checks. They're more likely to make the stealth checks. With a plank down everyone else get get up onto the deck much faster, which will mean less time with any of us facing multiple opponents individually.
Brannart Teskerwill |
Brannart is not going to be able to make a Stealth, a Climb/Acrobatics, and then another Stealth. Just too many skill checks that he is untrained in that all take Armor Check Penalty.
If Yraelzin wants to try a distraction, Brannart will remain in hiding until needed. If Yraelzin does not want to, then Brannart will be that distraction. His Bluff is at least not negative.
Fenna Pender |
Yeah, a distraction might work better if it would allow less stealthy characters to climb without being noticed.
On the other hand (and depending on the ship's crew size and determination) it could be very hard for those climbing on during the distraction to do anything to help those causing the distraction to get on board. They might get left behind.
Nymbleth |
I like the distraction idea. Two drunken sailors (Brannart and Yraelzin), returning to their ship singing a bawdy song. Vexas, Fenna, and Sho sneak on board (hopefully with a bonus) while Nymbleth covers them with his bow.
Nymbleth |
Remember we have hero points!
Nymbleth |
That works too .. and may be a better distraction.
Nymbleth |
I’m enjoying everyone’s characters too!
Vexas Flamespark |
Mine still feels a little weak, but I'm growing into him. Probably just needs more interactions.

Hi folks, just an FYI that I'll be out of town on a camping trip and unable to post this coming weekend, Sat. 2/8-Sun. 2/9. I will be able to resume posting in the evening on Sunday (US/Pacific time).

Truly jealous! Thanks for the heads up.
If needed, would Vexas typically keep a distance and use his crossbow?
Also, would love to hear about the camping trip. I do love the great outdoors.
Vexas Flamespark |
He would probably do that (safe distance + crossbow) *generally*, but also pick his spots for sneaking in closer and sneak-attacking (depending on the nearby front-liner support).
The trip is snow-shoeing and tenting in the snow, in the Cascades.
