@GM, what are you thinking of doing about this game?
It has been just over a year. Do you intend to put it on hold for five or six months and come back to it?
Should we look for a new GM - either interim or permanent?
GM Mioki |
If you all are interested in continuing, I would consider another GM. I could not ask you all to wait several months for me, and typically an endeavor like this changes a person. Who knows where my mind will be when I finish.
Did anyone have a new GM in mind? Should I post in the Recruitment thread?
I'd be happy to help anyway I can to keep this game alive.
Especially after Fenna gives birth. :) (sorry that Tea Fenna purchased in Almas was Lipton)
Brannart Teskerwill |
There is one GM I might ask (Brainiac, I am in one of their games). If they cannot take this on, then I guess Recruitment would be the way to go. Unless anyone else has suggestions.
I really like this game and hope it can continue.
Brannart Teskerwill |
Brainiac can't take it on - I had asked them because they're a great GM who I know has run this AP before. I'm in games with other GMs that I like, but I don't know that they have run this, and don't want to deprive them of the ability to enjoy the surprises as a player.
So @GM, would you post a Recruitment for a new GM?
Malakar_Paradise |
I am not against waiting or getting a new GM whatever works for the group at large.
Fenna Pender |
Lipton? You sure know how to ruin a party Mioki. :p
I'm still in for sure! There are a couple of people I could ask about taking over as GM, but my feeling is nobody I know has the bandwidth for it at this time.
Vexas Flamespark |
Huzzah!
Malakar_Paradise |
A possible gm replacement posted in the discussion of the other game not sure if you guys were still keeping up so though I would let everyone know.
Vexas Flamespark |
This is an FYI that I'll be away from computers and unable to post starting this Friday (3/26) evening (US/Pacific time) and until Sunday (3/28). I will be able to catch up and resume posting that evening.

I suppose I am wondering what Malakar actually expects of the Colony. He can't have gotten a position on this voyage by promising the Bountiful Venture Company that he would try to prevent the Colony from doing any mining. It doesn't sound plausible that they would agree to that.
I believe that there is a settlement-building aspect to this AP where we determine what economic activities the Colony should be working on. I imagine mining is going to be a possible thing we can develop. If that is a hard red line for Malakar then I guess it is good to know that up front.
Malakar_Paradise |
Malakar didn't formally apply. He kind of just expected his skill guaranteed him a spot and lucked out.
He is also a self taught druid who was looking for a new home after exile. What better place than a desert island? He hopes he can inspire or teach preservation as opposed to exploitation. He may be in the minority fighting a losing battle but his principals are important to him.
Brannart Teskerwill |
Well, clear-cutting all the forest or poisoning the water are obviously bad things that Brannart would not do, but digging up inert rocks from the ground seems not a bad thing to do. (It's not like mining here would use cyanide leaching).
Okay, if Malakar wishes to articulate his position, but is not going to quit in protest if we later do some mining, that is also good to know.
Fenna Pender |
For her part, Fenna is quite convinced the Company's long term strategy is to completely strip the island of resources as quickly as possible by demanding repayment for their investment, then either abandon the colony to essentially starve or exist in perpetual impoverishment, or to price gouge them selling back resources to the colony once they've collected them all for themselves. These two possibilities aren't mutually exclusive.
Fenna wants to manage finite resources carefully to prevent that, but no mining wouldn't be part of her plan. Self-sufficiency for the colony would be her goal.

Hello Everybody,
I ended my hike early for a multitude of reasons, but I am feeling a lot better. The little time I spent on the Trail really cleared my head.
It appears that the game may have stalled. I did PM Assembler a couple of days ago but have not heard back.
Any interest in getting the original band back together if we do not hear from Assembler soon?
It would be great to play with you all again.
Fenna Pender |
If there's agreement all around that would be great Mioki, and welcome back! I hope the reasons you end the hike early were good ones!
Brannart Teskerwill |
I would be happy for you to again pick up the campaign you started.
No slight is intended to Assembler, to whom I am grateful for helping us out.
Vexas Flamespark |
Sounds good to me!

Looks like everyone checked in. I'll give it the weekend out of respect to Assembler. If we do not hear back by then, I'll put a request into Paizo Customer Service to switch the game over and offer up a post.
I ended my hike on my terms. I had some tendonitis in my left achilles that I was working through. This I could have dealt with. What sealed the deal was speaking to my wife each night. (you would be surprised how good reception is out in the woods - there are communication towers all over the ridges). Laying in my tent each night, I realized just how much I missed her. Also, I missed GrubHub. Hiker Hunger is a real thing!
Also, glad to be back playing with you folks.

Sorry for vanishing. Rough work week. Glad to see you're back, Mioki.
After this experience, I believe I can safely conclude that PBP is not for me.
Good to hear from you Assembler. PBP can be challenging to keep up with. And you picked up a game that was going for over a year. That could not have been easy.
Thank you for keeping this game alive. Without your contribution, this game may have ended for good.
Thanks again.

@GM, are we close to Level 3?
Book 1 has 2 more sandbox style encounters along with a role-playing scenario before you would reach third level.
Then something happens that propels you into Chapter 3.
While I have considered nixing some or all of these encounters to move the game along, I do believe the encounters will be fun and the RP scenario allows more NPC development.
If the group wishes to speed things up, I could offer up these encounters in more of a short-story and start Chapter 3.
Brannart Teskerwill |
Ah, I see. So asking what we are doing for the next few days is to give some time for those sandbox events to occur while we hang around the town?
If Ramona were to ask us to stick around for a few more days to make sure things are safe and settled before heading out, then Brannart would do that.

That was my intention, but I would say do what your characters would do. Being sandbox style encounters, I could just move the playground a bit or save them for another time and increase the CR. If needed, I might have Ramona intercede, but I think a story is better when it is character driven. I want you all to be in control of the game. I might use NPC's to move along or guide you, but I try to stay away from destiny and force you into a situation.
As a GM, it is fun to have players challenge me. A favorite part of the game is to have players surprise the s$#t out of me.
Fenna Pender |
Sorry for the lack of posts. I got my 1st covid-19 shot and it put me out of action for a couple of days.
I'm fine with doing the extra encounters.
Vexas Flamespark |
Yeah, guess I should weigh in. I'm not in a hurry that I feel the need to bypass specific encounters.
Vexas Flamespark |
FYI, I will be away from computers and unable to post from this coming Friday evening (US/Pacific time) until Sunday afternoon. Since it's a weekend and I will fully catch up on return, I would expect minimal to no disruption.
Malakar_Paradise |
Normally I would say in othet AP's to streamline things but I feel the whole point of this AP is for use to really feel like we are taking an active role in making this community and solving the mystery.
Also I think Sho and I just stumbled into one of the encounters anyway.
I would like to hit level 3 so I can do the slight character fixes I wanted but otherwise I like our meandering pace I can open the browser at any point in the day and not worry I have missed too much.
Vexas Flamespark |
Hmm, I wonder if Vexas shouldn't have stayed back. Hopefully the intel about Carver is worth it. (it seemed like we were entering a "downtime", maybe I read that wrong).

It may not seem like it yet, but there will be a payoff.
Right now, you are just getting breadcrumbs.
And would Vexas really follow Malakar off into the woods when there is a warm and cozy bed calling. :)

Many rangers are loners, but some choose to use their familiarity with the land to guide others safely through the wilderness. The guide forgoes a favored enemy to focus on the task or foe at hand, and can pass his knowledge and luck on to his charges. A guide has the following class features.
Ranger's Focus (Ex): At 1st level, once per day, the guide can focus on a single enemy within line of sight as a swift action. That creature remains the ranger's focus until it is reduced to 0 or fewer hit points or surrenders, or until the ranger designates a new focus, whichever occurs first. The ranger gains a +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls against the target of his focus. At 5th level, and every five levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +2.
At 4th level, and every 3 levels thereafter, the ranger can use this ability one additional time per day. This ability replaces favored enemy.
Terrain Bond (Ex): At 4th level, the guide forms a bond with the land itself, enabling him to direct others in such terrain. When in his favored terrain, the ranger grants all allies within line of sight and that can hear him a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks. Also, as long as they travel with him, the ranger's allies leave no trail and can't be tracked. The ranger can choose for the group to leave a trail, or even specific members of the group to leave a trail if he so desires. This ability replaces hunter's bond.
Ranger's Luck (Ex): Upon reaching 9th level, once per day the guide can either reroll one of his attack rolls or force an enemy who just hit him with an attack to reroll the attack roll. The ranger must take the result of the second roll even if it is worse. A ranger can use this ability once per day at 9th level, plus one additional time per day at 14th and 19th levels. This ability replaces evasion.
Inspired Moment (Ex): At 11th level, the guide can have an inspired moment once per day as a free action. The ranger gains the following benefits until the end of his next turn. His speed increases by 10 feet. He can take an extra move or swift action on his turn. He gains a +4 bonus to AC and on attack rolls, skill checks, or ability checks. Finally, he automatically confirms any critical threat he scores. He can use this ability one additional time per day at 19th level. This ability replaces quarry and improved quarry.
Improved Ranger's Luck (Ex): Upon reaching 16th level, the ranger's luck increases. He gains a +4 bonus on his rerolls made with the ranger's luck ability, or if he forces an enemy to reroll an attack, that enemy takes a –4 penalty on the roll. This bonus or penalty is also applied on any roll to confirm critical hits. This ability replaces improved evasion.

A scroll of Touch of the Sea, so that when Vexas takes a level of Wizard he can transcribe it.

I assume you mean up to Spell level 3rd if so I think a nice scroll of remove disease would be nice to have in the pocket since I won't have it preparable until 5th but when and if we need it, it will be nice.

I think a scroll of Water Breathing would be good, given how it can be shared among multiple creatures. So that is what I will go with.
