I tell you what. If I do make a new character I'm going to do a bit of mini-maxing, or at least pick things with an eye towards combat, instead of building my character with only an eye towards RP and being faithful to the character concept. The evolutions I picked were all about the shadow thing, and for two points that sucked power wise. On the other hand, Ques is not above running for it.

My alt concept is primarily martial based. I agree on building the character to be less RP focused and more practical. That's my plan too.

Yep. Ques is no hero. Arms flailing, legs pumping, all out run! The battle is just not winnable. If we had some toys, we would have a chance, but, frankly, the enemies outclass us. Not only are there more of them than us, but they have a better to hit and better damage than us. They probably have DR and more HP than us too.

So here's a question for the rest of you. Ques is freaked out. I could very well just retire the poor slob and create a new character myself. Here are some options and I'd like opinions:
Create a cleric. Dang could we use a cleric.
Retool Grey so that he is a combat machine. Normally that is only allowed when leveling up but I'm betting Nayr would give dispensation.
Maybe Nayr would allow Ques to level up now and Grey could get an upgrade?

I would be fine with either way. I know that Garland did not work out as the healer I was hoping for.
Just story-wise, it might be easier to create a new character, especially if Ques is freaked out.
Hmmmm....I'd be cool with Ques leveling up given what he's been through, but not sure if that's fair to everyone else. And, if everyone levels up, then we're making it too easy. What's everyone else think about that?
And, certainly, I'd be fine with you retooling him.

I figured if he did level up he would skip the next leveling where everyone else went up. Any advantage would be short lived.

That actually bring up a good question:
If we all build new characters and basically start at the lodge, will the level up be after the lodge (as you had previously alluded to) or would you adjust the milestone?
I would figure if we leveled up Ques, you'd have Ques at level 2, then everyone else at 1, but would move up to 2 if/when you win the lodge.

As for a new character, I’m honestly unsure as yet what to play. Give me a little time and I’ll work it out. One crazy option I have is to be a tengu underling of Tchezze, if Tchezze is ok with that...

That would actually work out well, as you get 2 backstories in one. Keep in mind the cold and snow issue of course; it gets even worse once you get beyond the lodge. I don't think that'd be too meta either - the call could have gone out for adventuring help, and that want ad would say that you'd be exploring an unknown area of intense cold, so only those that can withstand it need apply. Of course, if you're cool with the Fort saves and nonlethal damage, then all good.
We did, but Ouachitonian hasn't replied since I put up his spoiler with his situation. Hopefully he'll come back, but if not, he's a spare NPC.

I like the idea of having an "underling" for Tchezze. I would be willing to make changes to the character to fit with whatever you have in mind for your character. This is going to be fun!

Perhaps Tchezze could be an uncle to my character who is younger and less experienced, needing guidance and a steady hand...

Maybe they are brothers, with Tchezze being the older more serene one, having basically raised your character. Basically the same dynamic without the age penalties to physical scores.

Make it cousins then. Different parents and upbringing, with Otakch being a bit wild and sent to serve with Tchezze to round off Ote’s rough edges. I’ll take the Exotic Weapon Training and Carrion Sense Alternate Racial Traits, which coupled with the Order of the Guard’ s Prepared for the Journey ability makes Ote a gleaner of things and techniques in low places rather than a linguist or true swordsman. Probably going to go with a reach spear of some kind...

Giving it further thought, I do like the “raised by Tchezze like a brother” aspect, so let’s say Otakch’s parents died of a mysterious illness/plague at which point an unruly Otakch was sent to be raised by Tchezze. Ote probably finds Tchezze serene approach stuffy, but deep down respects Tchezze’s mastery, dedication and skill and loves his cousin more than any other living creature.
