Interesting idea about fighting Calardan, rorek. I could be down for that. I think it would be kind of fun, though a huge advantage, to build for fighting a specific, known boss.

@Vampire cat/Pyuvir regarding something he said in a tristalt thread several weeks ago: Agreed. Ubercasters are rarely chosen but I think the options are awesome. I've made an eldritch archer 1/mind chemist 1/exploiter wizard 2 gestalt that was looking to be pretty cool but, par for the course, the game died in the first combat. Somewhat doubtful if spell combat is intended to work with bombs but, if it can, then bombing+spell + Swift actions + tumor familiar buffing self with poisoner's gloves get fun. Plus spell saves get crazy high with cognatogen+arcane pool.

Sorry for the delay. Will update with what happens with that door later today.

caster4life |

Well guys, it seems like Pyuvir has left. What do you all want to do here?

caster4life |

oh boy then... Ok that might result in a tpk but does that sound fun to you guys? Or does anybody want to whip up a level 10 sorc real quick and play two PCs here?

Matin Ayoob |

I'm ok with a TPK. This is a pretty low impact fight so its fine, I think I've gotten what I wanted out of it. That being said, I would be fine with trading in someone else. I'd also be ok with just going as is and giving it another shot with a different build.

caster4life |

Well once two of you agree on proceeding without Pyuvir or someone playing two PCs or calling it quits here I'll go with that.

caster4life |

Ok sounds good. I'll update tomorrow morning. Should be interesting then!

caster4life |

Ok if you change your mind and someone wants to whip up a level 10 caster (with craft wondrous to mirror Pyuvir's equipment benefit to you) to have rush in here and help out, just say so.

Rhodoh Noerhon |

So long and thanks for all the fish! (At -14 HP and still in the thick of the battle? I'm fish food!)
I was just a fighter. A heavy tank busting fighter with an enlarged, +3 adamantine greatsword, but still just a fighter. If my hit for 42 damage didn't even get through the beetle's epic DR.... ?? That's OK. I wanted a shot at playing that build, and now I see a number of mistakes. Possibly I wouldn't have made them if I'd played him from level 1 to here. Or maybe I still would have.
Anyway, thanks for running this. I'll watch for now and wait for what comes next. :-)

Matin Ayoob |

Its just a ridiculous AC, not DR I think, regardless, its pretty sick. Can we target its belly or something?

caster4life |

Matin's right on both counts. ;) Targeting its belly is a timing issue.
Thanks for playing, Rhodoh! With no healing, it is unlikely you get back in the fight.

Calardan Amorath Iothor |

Hahaha! I like how I thought about that writing my post IC, come over here and Its confirmed. Basically gotta use readied attacks or just simply overpower it with sheer barbarian brutality I bet haha.
Rhodoh could likely come to our rescue with a wizard haha.

Rhodoh Noerhon |

Didn't you say that it had raised it's carapace to spread wings and lift up to attack with all claws?
No problems. I enjoyed it. And true, with no healers he's toast.
I'm packing tonight and on the road to Yankee country tomorrow and couldn't put a decent caster together for several days.... Sorry!

caster4life |

I did say that rhodoh. Indeed that is the time to attack it.
Bummer about the no time but no worries.

Matin Ayoob |

Yeah, I really wish I could make a decent tower shield build, but it just doesn't seem justifiable. It is still cool though.

caster4life |

Spheres of might makes for pretty solid tower shield options. But yeah there are other ways to have great AC.

Hmm, I've never really looked into Sphears of Might very much. Its a little intimidating and I haven't dedicated the time to it since not everyone accepts it.

1- Steel Soul, Shield Focus
2- Mobile Bulwark style
3- Advanced Armor training (armored juggernaut)
4- Mobile Fortress
5- Advanced weapon training (armed bravery)
7- Power attack, Mobile Stronghold style
9- Advanced armor training (armor specialization), (open feat)
11- Open, (open feat)
decent feats for "open" feat spots- iron will, weapon focus/spec., advanced weapon training(?), Shield Brace (mastery), Greater shield focus, Ray Shield, most any combat maneuver.
Armor and weapon training:
Armor training "2"
3 advanced armor trainings,- armored juggernaut, armored specialization, master armorer (for crafting)
Weapon training:
+2
2 advanced weapon trainings- Armored bravery, Spirit Warrior.
For items, I will assume you don't get "exactly" what you want, and error on the side of less, as I don't particularly want to do the math for purchases.. haha.
Items- Belt of physical prowess +4 (dex/str), +2 weapon, +2 Armor (with choice of energy resistance)(crafted yourself) , +2 Shield (with choice of energy resistance) (crafted yourself), Gloves of dueling, cloak of resistance +3, boots of haste, +2 ring of delf and amulet of NA.
This leaves you a rough estimate of-
AC: ~38, if you focus purely on enhancement bonuses instead of energy resistances on your armor, you can get this into the low 40s. 10+14armor+3dex+7shield+2def+2NA
DR6/- with adamantine heavy armor.
to hit and damage of-
To hit: +25 due to +19 base (str+BaB), +4 from weapon training, +~2 from magic enhancement,
Damage of ~1d8+14/15 due to Str of 24, weapon training, and magic enhancement.
with power attack, changes to-
+21 to hit,
damage: 1dX+26.
note, if you are going to use only 1 weapon, weapon focus/spec increases it by +1/+2.
The biggest issue here, is you really need to be allowed crafting, otherwise your money investments will be hampered due to wanting a shield AND armor. I would focus a little more on defense, likely picking up dodge and spending a little more money on defense, but thats me.
You will use Brawlers martial flexibility 95% of the time ONLY for picking up the AWT option of item mastery for casting spells, such as fly/healing/dispell.
