Aeshuura |
Okay, here is our discussion thread for Seven Dooms. Let us outline our characters and stake our claim to what part we want to run.
GM ShadowLord |
For my live and online games, I always use a VTT. I'm a HUGE proponent of FoundryVTT. I've tried many of the VTTS and the versatility of the application coupled with the hundreds of available mods and the active development customized for the specific rulesets are unmatched.
I haven't looked at Owl Bear Rodeo before; I'll check it out, though.
All that said, for PbP games, I usually find Google Slides to be the easiest and most efficient. Simplicity generally wins out over features.
Aeshuura |
I tend to use Google Slides as well. Have never tried Foundry and only now learned of Owl Bear Rodeo.
I think I will start with Burnt Offerings after all. I like having the PCs having that connection with some of the NPCs in town and connection to the history of the town for things that happen in Seven Dooms.
Milani
Okay, then you are a newcomer to Sandpoint? Milani is not one of the deities commonly worshipped in the Town. It's okay if you are. Perhaps your parents were visiting Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival all those years ago... then after 17 years, you return to the town to visit old friends.
GM ShadowLord |
I'm down for starting with BO, I've been itching to play ROTR in 2e anyway.
The thought process is that we are playing a younger version of ourselves for the first four levels and then switch to Seven Dooms 17 years later or whatever it is, and you are still an older, wiser, more mature level 4 character.
Aeshuura |
Yes. That is the premise. Basically, the first 3 levels will be fast, but for one reason or another you will be 4th by the beginning of when Scran takes over. I am already working on why Kusano is not higher level, despite heading off to help Ameiko in the Jade Regent storyline... ^_^
Aeshuura |
I am terrible with Discord. Especially since I am usually at work when I check this. I am much better with email or Google chat.
Aeshuura |
Okay, I put an intro post in Gampeplay, but we won't officially start until we can recruit one more player / GM.
Aeshuura |
Aeshuura |
Oo, it's neat. I can promote you to GM when I am done!
EDIT: It looks like you have two characters. Should I kick one?
Kusano |
This is Aesh's character. I think he is updated for this game.
EDIT: What is weird is that Lost Coast Local gives Society, but the Skill Feat it grants requires training in Diplomacy. Why not just give Diplomacy instead of Society, or a Skill Feat for Society? @.@
Mira Damaris |
That is peculiar, I agree. Knowledge local was transplanted to Society, so it makes sense that would be the correct skill, but I think the skill feat seems off.
I have been waffling back and forth on Mira's build the last few days, but I think I decided on fighter. To continue down the arc, I'll go either champion or blessed one at level two, but I think I'll let the story help push me in that direction.
Mira is fifteen and the daughter of a shipwright. Her mother died in childbirth, and she's an only child. She spent her youth in and around the docks of Sandpoint and grew up "tough" hanging around sailors and fishermen. She's very strong, far stronger than any fifteen-year-old should rightfully be. She has fiery red hair that matches her spunk and spirit.
That spunk and toughness got her noticed by Belor Hemlock, and she's recently been recruited into the Sandpoint militia. She doesn't have any major responsibilities yet and is mostly assigned to patrol the city and report suspicious activities.
I'm creating her visuals now and will render them out later today.
Mira Damaris |
I finished Mira, Here she is!. She's on patrol in uniform down at the docks, admiring the hard work everyone is putting in.
If anyone wants me to create your character, let me know. Looking forward to getting started.
Mira Damaris |
@Aeshuura - I found a reference for 2E Burnt Offerings. You can check out the repository here.
Aeshuura |
I have added the Owlbear Rodeo link to my profile. I have some character images on there and a backdrop of Sandpoint.
Mangrove |
He actually lives in Sandpoint and has for years... but was awakened recently. As somewhat of a tourist attraction I would say most have heard of him... and it's up to them if they want to be acquaintances. After all he gets almost all of the parts for plants in the local theater.
Aeshuura |
Kusano would spend a bit of time with him. He thinks of Mangrove as kind of a kami and is fascinated. He would share all of the stories that his mother used to share with him...
Aeshuura |
Let us start with just a bit of RP, let the new guy work on his goblin and we can work together to find a way that he is entrenched in our group and the town so that there is minimal blame laid upon his tiny shoulders.
Mangrove |
Working on ideas for a backstory for Mangrove.
* He was awakened about 50 years ago in an area near Sandpoint (TBD).
* He protected his druid creator Mylindar for many years till she died of old age.
* He got board standing in the woods, so made his way to Sandpoint.
* He's been here about 4 years now and is something of a novelty the townsfolk tolerate.
Mira Damaris |
There is a significant difference of opinion to goblins between first edition when ROTR was written and second when goblins became a playable race. The first book is more or less against the goblins for much of the story. As a newly minted militia, Mira would likely be adversarial to any goblins.
What is the approach we intend to take here? I don’t want to create unnecessary tension if it will be uncomfortable for our players.
Aeshuura |
In the Anniversary Edition of RotRL, they have a breakdown of the tribes and that is where I found that comment about the Birdcruncher tribe being the least hostile. Maybe this goblin has found its way into the hearts of the children with little illusions and prestidigitation? We could have found him / her when we were all young? Especially if we found the young goblin being bullied, Kusano would likely have come in swinging...
Maybe? How does everyone like that?
EDIT: Mira could still have a little bit of resentment, as long as everyone is cool with that... I am okay, as long as it can be resolved over time... (I would, ideally, like to avoid the Raistlin archetype though...)
Aeshuura |
How old is Anthony currently? Is he going to be the grizzled veteran after the timeskip?
Mira Damaris |
I had the same question. It could be that he's not tracking the game in years that exist between Burnt Offerings and the start of Seven Dooms.
Aeshuura |
Oh, in case you didn't know, Anthony, it is 17 years between Burnt Offerings and Seven Dooms. We were planning to do a timeskip after Burnt Offerings. We would individually come up with a reason that we did not level beyond 4th... For Kusano, it will be largely that he goes into a mini retirement and goes back to doing family responsibilities.
Anyway, that is why I asked.
Aeshuura |
Nice! I have the day off tomorrow, so I may not be on here, but I will chime back in on Tuesday!
Aeshuura |
Okay, so there are a couple of thoughts. You could already know the PCs possibly being a member of the town in good standing, which is my preferred option, or you could be part of the coming 'fireworks', but that would be risky in that you may get killed before you can 'defect'...
Another thought is that you know it is coming and you try to warn someone (namely the PCs) that something is going to happen because maybe you are in favor of making good relations with the town for the benefit of your tribe...
Anyway, we should get that settled before introducing your character.
Aeshuura |
What do you think about being the assistant to Ilsoari Gandethus at the Turandarok Academy? He is responsible for the education of the children of Sandpoint? It would give you a reason to know the kids, at least.
Aeshuura |
How about everyone else? It seems that by that option, Mira and Kusano would likely know Snag best. Mangrove would at least know of Snag, and Anthony would likely not know anything of Snag at all unless he can have some connection to the Academy...
Aeshuura |
As long as he didn't try to set you on fire! ^_^
EDIT: As Mira said they might have the most prejudice against the goblin, I want to know what they think...
Mira Damaris |
Wednesdays are my busiest day of the week, and I may be slow to respond on them.
Additionally, it appears most of you are posting much later in the day than I typically do (in the mornings, East Coast US time). It's not a problem; just may impact my ability to respond quickly sometimes.
---
As a player, I don't have any problem at all with this. As mentioned above, Mira will initially be biased towards the goblins, given her role in the militia. I do not intend for her to be hostile, mostly standoffish and unhappy about their involvement. Perhaps she'll warm up in BO, but it may take time for it to happen -- we'll see how it plays out! :)
If you're struggling with the conflict at any time, please reach out to me, and let's discuss how to work through it. I don't want to create an environment that isn't fun for you.
