Skyfall- An Only war story (Completed) (Inactive)

Game Master Solar27

Map of current fight
This is a Warhammer 40K story set on the world of Skyfall, where 5,000 years ago demons and angels warred in the heavens and broke the sky. Now pieces of that war rain down upon the land and you are the Scavanger teams sent to reclaim those pieces of lost technology that might survive, from an area called the Skybreak.

This is your life and it's not an easy one, the Skybreak takes as much as it gives but it gave you hope of better times.

At least it did, until they came

"I don't fear your steal thief. I beat you bloody with just a stick. How about you let me go and we settle this man to man"

Way to deal with him:
1.Kill him
2. Knock him out
3. Tie him up and leave him behind
+ anything else you can think of

"He's not talking and I could do without the head ache. I say finish him off or knock him out so we can loot them and I can patch up Jak's mount."

I can make him talk, his mind is weak as is his will. Tie him up and take him with us. We can use the ants venom to keep him paralyzed after binding his arms and legs.

dominate is only a round worth. But I figure if we ask a question, I use the power and force him to answer, we can get something from him.

Ogryn

Oh, I should have made that clear, that was an intimidate check.

Notch grins at the man.

"You should have finished the job when you had the chance. Now, where's that venom?"

Notch moves away, and only then turns to look for ant venom.

The venom is in your ants bite. A trade chymisrty roll will let yiu harvest it or you can get your Ant to bite him

do we need to roll for the ant bites? If so. What would we need to roll?

just roll a 1d10 for damage (counting anything higher than a 7 as 7)

Daviens Ants jaws cut cut into the mans arm, breaking it. He screams once and falls unconscious.
He is bleeding very heavily, if nothing is done about his arm he will bleed to death in the next few minutes

can anyone tend to that wound? he asks the others.

"By the Emperor's divine appendages!" Krevlor moves towards the man and starts trying to stem the flow of blood. Shaking his head he sighs after a minute. "Nicked and artery, nothing I can do for him."

He moves back over to the ant "No this, is much more superficial. I have some ointment that'll help with the pain, a bit of glue to keep the carapace in place while it mends."

8 wounds back for the ant!

Krevlor:

As you try to save the man you notice an 8 pointed star tattooed on his body. You also notice lumps consistent with demon blood poisoning.

Despite Krevlor's help the man bleed to dead in a minute.

The rest of the trip back to the campsite is uneventful and you see the Terror cat still caged in the center.
It snarls at the group

As you settle down the Talkspire crackles into life.

"The man had a bad case of demon blood poisoning and look here at this tatoo." Krevlor points out the eight pointed star tattoo.

----------

"Unless there's more information that that there's not much we can do about it now but we should write it down." Krevlor makes a few notes.

Ogryn

"Hi Furry Val. I feed now." Duncan happily tosses meat to his captive pet before entering to pet the beast roughly, prepared to hug it out with his new best friend if needed.

You need two more days to tame it so give me a survival (and/or parry) roll to avoid being mauled

Ogryn

1d100 ⇒ 70 Wwll, guess we are hugging it out today.

1d100 ⇒ 95
The Cat snaps at Duncan but is preoccupied with it's new meal and misses. It slinks into the back of it's cage and growls

Ogryn

Dunc growls back, stepping forward and sitting down just out of claw range.

"This is a solid haul. We should definitely get this safely tucked away, so we get the credit."

what do you make of the transmission we just heard from it? Do you think it was a recording? davien asks the group. He looks down to the journal he had found,

and yes, either way, I want to keep the credit, especially considering the trouble we went through for it.

Medic. FP: 0/1, Wounds 9/9. TB: 3. Armour: 4.

"Dragging Duncs new pet back might be tough so I'd keep your weapons handy. As for the transmission aside from report it as soon as possible... other than that what can we do? Not much we can do about naval grade weaponry."

As the sun rises that morning, you pack and leave. Duncan's new cat is kept in it's cage and dragged along behind you, though it is not please by the treatment.
When you arrive back at the city of Defiance the first thing you see is a group of worker putting up two pole at either side of the main street. Between the polls hangs a colourful banner with the words "Deliverance day" written on them.
As you look around you notice that the city is a flurry of action. It looks like everyone's preparing for a festival but though there isn't supposed to be any for another 52 day.
I'm not sure if I named the main city but it's name is Defiance

When you arrive at the main Scavanger drop off point you are greeted by a bald man dressed in a baggy purple robe. He is flanked by two hunched people who's features are completely obscured by their robes

Scrutiny at -10:

The bulge for the hunched figures right shoulders is larger than the left. Perhaps a sign of a third arm but you can't be sure without looking under it

The bald man pull out a dataslate and in a weary voice intones:
"Please state your team name and a description of your find"

Ogryn

Duncan continues to drag the sledge wherever he is told.

What are we doing with Furry Val?

The Scavanger stables are outfitted for this kind of situation so you can leave her there until you tame her if you want

Ah yes, were we able to salvage any gear from the people we fought?

"Krevlor, a few odds and ends but the main one is a talk spire. It made a few transmissions since we've been around it." He produces a pieces of paper with his hastily written transcriptions. "That bit there about the warp incursion and the naval weapons being fired seems like the most important bit. Some kind of a warning too in a previous transmission."

The tapping on the data-slate stops for a second.
"How did the patriarch know ... no no I mustn't doubt.

Thank you for this blessed gift. Full points. Yes yes, your score will be updated shortly and this information will be passed onto the Planetary Governor. Do yo have any further details about this messages, my Lords?
the bald man stammers out, quickly changing from board to feverish.

Ogryn

"Talky rock make noise bout stuff. I carry talky rock for frens. Dunc do good." Duncan happily relays all he knows about the talking rock in those sentences alone.

yes dunc, you did well. The only thing of note other than the find, was the fact we were attacked by others. I don't know why particularly, as the only prisoner we managed to get did not survive. Davien remarks

There'll be about a week in game before the next plot development so feel free to enjoy the festival for a while. I'll post the next plot point on Wednesday.
After this your fate points will be refreshed

"Yes attack from savages in the Skybreak aren't uncommon. I wouldn't be to concerned about not bringing one back. They're rarely worth the effort"
The two hunched men move forward and take the talkspire, carrying it with ease into another room.
The bald man follows them leaving you alone.

Ant Race 51: 1d100 ⇒ 87

Krevlor finds himself outclassed in the race coming second last.

Extended Care at the hospital 81: 1d100 ⇒ 42
He has more luck tended to the injured... "You're wounds are healing up nicely now Notch since I've got access to some of the big gear. If you can find some bits to make armour or weapons I think we could do well out of it." He lowers his voice and leanse in closer. "All those bits we heard out there sounds like things might get a bit rougher, you're better at finding things than me but if you can get them I can put them together. No point going full price. Even if you can't find anything at a good rate I think I'll try to bottle some of the ant venom for sedating captives."
If he succeeds, his patients remove twice the normal amount of Damage normally recovered by their natural rates of healing (removing Critical Damage first). On top of this, each patient removes one point of Damage per Degree of Success the healer scores on his Test, and one additional point of Damage per consecutive day of extended care they have received beyond the first.

Strength 31: 1d100 ⇒ 69
Perhaps overconfident he almost puts out his back in the weight lifting competition.

Scrutiny 35-10: 1d100 ⇒ 33

"Notch Carno. We're all Steel Seekers, no losses - to us."

Weirdo scavs talked crap about the Emperor. Demon blood poisoning and weird tattoos. Oh and tried to kill us!, he doesn't add out loud.

********

"Cheers Krev!", Notch replies with a minimum of wincing.

"And yeah, we need to tool up. I'll see what I can snag."

When he can, Notch makes for the trader stalls to find parts for weapons and armour.

Davien make a willpower test at +30 and open this if you fail:

You spend a day incapacitated as your mind is filled with chittering and the impression of scuttling. But abovecit all there is an overwhelming hunger

You best believe Dunc is all over the place during the festival.

1d100 ⇒ 13Ant blows through his paces. 5 DOS
1d100 ⇒ 2Dunc lifts the podium all the weights were on, all because his roll fell out of his hand and got under the stage. Hadn't technically entered, but are you going to argue with him? 6 DOS
1d100 ⇒ 93Dunc trips over himself as the first portion of the track is a long tunnel with low walls every few feet... Dunc is disqualified.

Duncan rolls for training Val. Over the week.
1d100 ⇒ 27
1d100 ⇒ 42 Spending a void
1d100 ⇒ 53 Guess they have a bit of a disagreement this day.
1d100 ⇒ 10 There we go.

Looking for the equivalent to full flak armour, couldn't hurt.
1d100 ⇒ 11 Well shoot, actually worked.

will1-75: 1d1 ⇒ 1 hmmm... wonder what I missed..

Lore cryptology: 1d100 ⇒ 12

Davien will take the time to start looking over the journal he found on the other psyker. dunno if a week is enough time to read through it, made a roll in case.

Davien:

Corruption gained: 1d5 ⇒ 2
You decode this passage:
"The warp is the stuff of raw emotion and no emotion is stronger than pain. Invoke it on yourself or others, capture that pain and you will grow stronger from it"
Gain the following power:
Sacrifice
The psyker uses the flesh and blood of a willing or unwilling victim
to fuel his dark powers. Whether ending a life or merely opening
a vein, the sacrifice calls out to the Warp, drawing the attentions of
Daemons and bolstering the psyker’s malevolent abilities.
Value: 100 xp
Prerequisite: Willpower 45
Action: Half Action
Focus Power: Ordinary (+10) Willpower test
Range: Self
Sustained: No
Subtype: Concentration
Effect: This power can only be used if the psyker has inflicted
damage on a target (possibly himself) since the beginning of the
previous round. If the Focus Power test succeeds, the psyker gains
a +5 bonus to his next Focus Power test for each point of damage
inflicted (after reductions for armour and Toughness bonus) with
the preceding attack. This bonus must be used within 1 hour.

Leaning back in the chair, Jak looks in dismay upon the book laying before him, How can this be so similar? Which one was edited? What, in the name of the Great Machine, is going on here?

GM Skyfall:
I would like to scan the new text into a digital format, but keep it on an isolated dataslate. Then I would like to do an analytical comparison of the two books. The goal is to identify the discrepancies and compare the writing style of the parts that seem to be added/redacted/reworded to see if they are written by the same author that wrote the rest of the manuscript. This should help me to understand at least which manuscript was edited.

Wow that new flak armour you bought is amazing. It's aways warm and it even glows to help keep the dark away.

Oh, also someone came up to you and started talking about how he's found evidence of books being changed but then you realized that your new armour felt like fuzzy Vals coat and you left to go pet her.

It looks like they finally cracked, keept screaming about buzzing and hunger

Notch:

Word has reached you that serveral wandering tech adepts have been attacked by Mutants.
While that wouldn't be uncommon a detail sticks out.
All the mutants had 3 arms

Krevlor:

It was carried into a back room to be seen by the head surgeon.
An hour later robed nobles swarmed the hospital.
You haven't seen the head surgeon since.

When he returns, he is carrying an extremely well crafted lasgun and wearing much better armor than he previously had. When he returns, he approaches Krevlor and Davien, "Have you two seen anything unusual happening around here lately?"
