I guess without being fed poison every day, the groundwater would dilute it to safe levels? I'm not trained in Knowledge (Aquifer Science), however.

Mosquito Witch

It is part poison and part curse, so science or even Science! is of little use.

Although there are no signs on NPCs saying their levels, in previous conversations you determined that Alyssia was much lower level than you. Still, she could purify it in smaller doses.

I will remind you that many in the town aren’t fully rational, so leaving it to just an NPC under the curse may be a less than optimal solution. Better than nothing, but you may want to think a bit on this.

Up to you what you do. I just want to make sure you consider things that I think would be obvious.

Tycho thinks the priority is getting to the crash site and healing ourselves up / removing negative levels / removing curses. If we can remove the curse on the wellwater on the way tomorrow morning, all the better.

The group goes back to the Town Hall to speak with Mayor Enmet Kurigoss.

He is still yelling at everyone around when you get there. Melody and the rest of the group are able to talk him into having the spell cast.

Whoever is doing to casting should roll. Also let me know which scroll is being used.

Anyone else have any way of boosting the roll? Lucky Presence does nto work, unfortunately, on caster level checks. I think Theodric Milan is our highest level caster and he should be the one to try. Unless it is based on the scroll level in which case it doesn;t really matter, does it?

Mosquito Witch

Theodric can use a class feature to roll and then decide to use that roll or roll again. It isn’t exactly a reroll, but it does give him a slight edge.

When he previously did it, Tycho used a mnemonic vestment which meant he could use his own caster level. Otherwise, you are correct. It would use the caster level of the scroll.

Caster level checks are not skill checks, so there are less ways to boost them,

Since I have not yet told you the results, you could use a reroll assuming you had an appropriate item (character portfolio, qualifying shirt, qualifying bag, etc.

@Tycho, did you use one of the two Break Enchantment scrolls or the single Remove Curse scroll? I am guessing Remove Curse since it would be CL5 (cleric 3) instead of CL 9 (cleric 5 and sorcerer/wizard 5).

Shouldn't we have net 1 Remove curse scroll left? Tycho had one, Alyssia gave us 2. Theodric used one, Tycho cast off Mnemonic vestments (which doesn't use the written source), and then Tycho just used the second scroll scroll like normal, probably wasting it. That should leave us with 1 more remove curse. I hope I did not count wrong, as I would rather not have used the last of a resource on a gamble!

Mosquito Witch

Yes, two scrolls of Remove Curse have now been used.

The casting is not powerful enough to cancel the curse.

The mayor is not particularly impressed.

Were you going to explain any of what is going on, or wait until it works?

We already told the mayor what was going on, and we would definitely have told him why we were casting the spell on him, but we could RP it if you would like. I was rather hoping the remove curse would work and we could RP the results. I guess we should try again, and by we I mean Theodric so it gets a potential reroll.

Sorry, Mister Mayor.

Warpac, let's keep the last scroll of remove curse, and use one of the ones of Break Enchantment. We have two of those but only one of the remove curse. Plus the last remove curse belongs to Tycho and I'd rather keep it (it can be used with the mnemonoc vestments by Tycho, whereas the higher level scrolls cannot); also good to use NPC resources before PC resources IMO.

Mosquito Witch

Tycho rolled and used a scroll, yes. He failed and that scroll is expended.

People were discussing still trying to cure the mayor so that at least one person in authority had their full faculties. As I understand it, there is only one scroll that you own left of Remove Curse.

One was used on Leeara, one attempt was made in the Mayor and failed. Those are the two you got from Alyssia, the Priestess in town.

You still have two scrolls of Break Enchantment and as I understand it Tycho has a scroll of Remove Curse that they have paid for. Melody can operate the Break Enchantment without a Caster Level check.

The temple doesn’t have any more scrolls, but you could try to find some in town. Might want to reread the start of the adventure for ideas on where to look.

I thought we were doing the break enchantment and saving the second remove curse to be used with the Mnemonic Vestment. Break Enchantment would not require a Caster Level check? Do you mean to activate it or to break the enchantment? Can Tycho not use the scroll without a caster level check or UMD?

That makes much more sense, sorry about the confusion.

Mosquito Witch

Sorry for any confusion. English is an imprecise language and I am not always clear and concise in my explanations.

Break Enchantment would require the Caster Level check to remove the curse.

Melody is high enough and it is on her list where she can cast it. That is what I had meant.

Looking a little more closely, others can most likely do so as well.

Level bard 4, cleric 5, paladin 4, sorcerer/ wizard 5

It appears Tycho can as he is an Oracle and it doesn’t appear he lost any caster levels to his PrC.

I don’t think Theodric can without a Caster Level check just to activate the scroll. The Brawler level causes him to be one behind, so he can’t cast 5th level spells.
I am not sure if it is possible for him to fail the check to activate though, as Magical Knack gave him the Caster Level — just not the ability to cast 5th level spells.

Right on all counts: Evangelist also short me a CL but I have a CL of 9 from magical knack meaning I can't fail the CL 10 check to activate the scroll even though I am required to make the check.

Mosquito Witch

I haven’t seen any further decisions.

As I understand the situation:
* Latest four Cultists are back in their room at the Inn, presumably tied up and gagged. It is unclear to me who is still with them.
* Tycho as Kanik, Warpac and presumably Theodric have gone to Town Hall. They have tried to Remove Curse on the Mayor once and failed.
* It is unclear to me where other people are.
* At least Leeara knows it is the water from the well that has the toxin. You expect that she will tell Dalviss and Nalan since otherwise there is a high probability of contamination again.
* No one has tried anything beyond asking Dalviss, Alyssia or the Mayor about getting Restoration.
* There was a discussion of how to best optimize use of the scrolls you have.

Corrections welcome.

If we're done interrogating the cultists, I think we should take them over to the jail.

Melody can go spread the word among the townsfolk not to use the well water for a while, and that we have someone purifying the water at the Inn.

Mosquito Witch

Melody asks Mongo to carry the Cultists and they are deposited into cells as well. Abtaroh is in a cell of her own, but the regular Cultists are generally two to a cell.

She then goes to the temple and talks to Alyssia about purifying the water taken from the well. The priestess is glad to help. Then Melody goes around town warning people about the well water and explaining how to avoid it.

You can Take 10 on it, but a Diplomacy check seems appropriate since I assume you are trying to keep people calm.

She does get asked about if the horses, mules and goats are in danger from the toxin. Melody doesn’t think so and relays that.

By the time she is done with all that, the Inn has quite a few more people in the dining area and it is well past dusk.

In the morning, Mongo and Warpac wake with headaches.

Warpac’s first attempt to Remove Curse fails, but the second one on himself works. Even better, the headache also disappears when the curse is lifted.

When he goes to the Town Hall, the Mayor is loudly barking complaints at everyone nearby. He gives a gruff “You folks again! Grrrrreat, more who want my time!

Did he just growl at you?

Fortunately his mood shifts quickly after the spell is cast. All present can tell something was different with this attempt as the Mayor’s face shows first surprise and then relief. He immediately thanks Warpac. “Forget that! Best hangover cure ever! Thank you!

Evidently he was also suffering from a headache.

My good friends, we simply must make sure every one of us is in tip-top health before this country jaunt! Kanik turns to Dalviss. A coffee, my good fellow.

Tycho would prefer no one is suffering from the curse before we go to the nexus of all this trouble.

Theodric succeeds at removing the curse from both himself and Mongo. This also cures Mongo’s headache.
